Lanai’s Diary-What does it mean to have humility?

As I sit and scribble my thoughts in my virtual diary for all to see. I feel that humanity is in chaos. Daily stresses of life plaque us all. Endless turmoil on the news, hard times, struggles, bad attitudes, mistrust and ignorance, it leaves us all affected in some way. For the most part I try to make sense of the world around me and believe that I have a purpose. We all do.

I was once a shy girl who hid from the world.  I barely made eye contact or spoke first. I spent a lot of time locked away in my bedroom as a child.  My outlet was writing. I had a little pink diary that I hid between my mattress and I poured out my heart in it almost every night. I still have it but it is too hard for me to read. Life wasn’t fair and I feel bad for that little girl who missed out on what should have been a childhood. I have no idea what it is like.  I think back at that little girl who felt so alone. But I think, if it wasn’t for the things she gone through, I would not be who I am today.

Happy St. Patrick's Day 2014 Interview with a Leprechaun

Leprechauns are synonymous with St. Patrick’s Day and Irish Folklore. The word itself means pygmy or little person.

They are said to be solitary mischievous fairies that take the form of a bearded old man, usually wearing a green coat and top hat. This is the most popular description of these creatures but according to different regions of Ireland, Leprechaun appearances vary. For example, in Northern Ireland they wear red coats, white pants and a pointed hat.  In other regions they have a sword or use their hat as a weapon. Legend has it they are greedy little shoemakers who like to hide their gold coins in pots at the end of a rainbow.  If one is caught, they must give the captor their pot of gold. In American culture, St. Patrick’s Day is observed by drinking heavily, pub crawls, fist fights and a reason to just act like a crazy Leprechaun. Being Irish doesn’t even matter to partake in this holiday’s activities.  To some, Leprechauns are considered to be alcoholic tyrants that cannot control their behavior once they are inebriated. That must be why people who observe this holiday in a drunken stupor justify their behavior once they recover from a massive hangover.

In Second Life, St Patrick’s Day is observed with clover adorned decorations, treasure hunts, parties and dressing in green. The SL Enquirer observes this holiday by searching for Leprechauns and harassing them for fun. Lanai Jarrico has some Irish in her and sees Leprechaun hunting as a sport. She goes hard at it usually after a few green beers and a buzz.

How Important Are Your Friendships and Relationships in SL?- Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

Having high expectations is something that can be a problem if you are a person that is only into shamelessly dating in the virtual world and wanting to take friendships and relationships into real life but lack certain qualities.   Be careful what you get yourself into; perhaps the grass is balding and unkempt on the other side. If you decide to go exploring anyway, take a first aid kit.

If you value your friendships, be sure to consider some things so your expectations in Second Life are not interrupted by unnecessary awkwardness, drama and issues that can get out of control; causing you to lose friends and have bad break ups.

Engaging in Conversation
Before engaging in conversation leading to friendships, romance and self disclosure, be honest with yourself and others or reconsider your activities of getting involved in a virtual world friendship and or relationship. When investing real emotions, you run the risk of being hurt or hurting others.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

                                                      4/26/13

Hi SLE readers,

I thought I’d write you a note while I enjoy a refreshing glass of water with lemon and an energizing bowl of fruit and vanilla yogurt. It has been a while since I’ve expressed my gratitude to you, the reader, my friends, hard working team of writers and all those that have supported The SL Enquirer through the years. It has definitely been a journey, one I have shared with you in the public eye. I just want you to know I am grateful for each and every one of you for being there to motivate me to continue to do what I love; creative writing, meeting people from all over the world, learning from you all and being a part of some of your daily reading routines.
As I approach my 8th Rezzday on May 9th, I can’t help but sit back and reflect on the years gone by. It seemed like only yesterday that I was waddling barefoot around the grid with no real direction, wearing silks and constantly being approached by Goreans. I had no idea that what I was wearing meant something to them.  Things have certainly changed from those times, readership has grown tremendously from the monthly hits that are now equivalent to our daily hits, times two.
Every day when I wake up, gather my senses and check my emails, it is like opening Christmas presents. There is something new to tackle each day, a new person to meet, the most encouraging comments and my friends and SLE family in Second Life ready to greet me. Living a Rock star lifestyle isn’t so bad, but without you as my rock, I would not be a star. I just wanted to express that to all of you. I wish you all well with whatever dreams you have and encourage you to follow them. You never know that the path you choose today will lead you in a whole new life changing direction tomorrow. I certainly believe in dreams coming true. If you continue to strive for what you want and do what you love, only good things can come of it, even in the virtual world.
Stay positive, have a great day and another will soon follow.

xoxo

Cool tips for Dating an Avatar found on Discovery News- Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

2/14/13

I'm a shameless news addict and not afraid to admit it. When I'm not covering virtual world news, publishing for others or roaming the grid looking for something to write about, I'm checking out news on different real world outlets often so that I can stay in the know about the world around me.  From that disgruntle ex cop stand off in a cabin, the germ infested broke down Carnival Cruise ship finally docking and unloading traumatized passenger, the Olympic Runner charged in murdering his model girlfriend, a meteor explosion over Russia, , fashion and what not to wear, the Pope leaving his position, celebrity gossip about Kim and Kanye receiving special treatment at JFK airport and causing a security breech and the weird and the wacky, to finding news about Second Life on major news outlets. I must say, it is a lot to absorb!

Here is an interesting article I found on Discovery News about Dating Avatars and some tips that can help those that are involved in dating in Second Life.

Lanai’s Diary: OMG I Gained the Holiday 10… -Lanai Jarrico

2012 was filled with all sorts of news, events, drama and whatnot and on top of it all I stepped on my scale this morning and it went up a notch or two…or ten!   I had a rough year so I indulged in many holiday cookies as well as big traditional family dinners. I guess I’ll kick off the year doing Zumba.  Just not today…

Besides the holiday 10, things are finally getting back to some normalcy on the home front and I’m easing my way back into my virtual office.  I think 2013 will be an interesting year and I’m excited to share what I'm up to.

I went ahead and threw myself head first into a new project here in Second Life © and accepted the position to co-host a talk show on Pulse TV Network. The show is called Girl Talk and is slated to begin production in January 2013.  I must warn you all that I have no previous talk show experience, my opinions may be a little off tilt, too real for some or have nothing to do with the topic at all, but I think it may be worth checking out.

I feel  it is about time I expand my virtual media horizons and do something that may potentially embarrass myself and blemish my already questionable reputation or  it could catapult me into some sort of superstar situation where I can no longer hide behind the scenes and handle my business like the wizard of Oz did.

I would like to see new things happen this year in Second Life. Many of us need to break away from the repetitive nature of the current environment and introduce new ideas and even people from the real world.  The virtual world has been around a long time but we are still in need of mainstream attention. New people bring new ideas and it helps keep things fresh and interesting.

If I’m going to step out from behind the curtain, I need your help. I would like to hear from the community so I can help improve your experience. If you have a topic idea you would like me to address an issue or interview someone, please feel free to email me at lanai_jarrico@yahoo.com

Lanai's Diary: June 7, 2012- A Zombie Apocolypes in Real Life? Maybe we are safer in Second Life... - Lanai Jarrico

Lanai Jarrico on Zombie Patrol

There is so much madness going on these days, that it makes the things I have to deal with in my day to day life, seem petty and mundane and believe me in the last month, I’ve been dealt a hand of all Jokers in an impossible card game. I’m so glad I can log into Second Life as an escape and do what I love. Write and stay busy. Lately some real world news has been catching my attention. There have been reports of crazy zombie-like cannibals on the loose. Some of these cases sound like they are straight out of a horror flick or a regular Thursday night in Second Life’s role play scene.

Lanai’s Diary Monday August 29, 2010 Quakes, Hurricanes and floods OH My!

Well…Hurricane Irene has passed but not without slapping up the East coast.  By the time it started really raining down on us over here in  Northeast Pa, the winds were a bit weakened from the initial 90 MPH winds being reported when it began. This carried on from Saturday night into early Sunday morning.  The major concern for my area was flooding. It caused some roads to shut down, the first day of school was cancelled and we ended up with about 4 inches of water in the basement.  Since flooding has happened in the past, the majority of our belongings were in plastic bin, with the exception of some loose toys, Christmas ornaments, a guitar, an Xbox, 2 TVs, a treadmill , bowflex  and some cardboard boxes that are now sitting out with the trash as fans dry out the basement to prevent mold.  It could have been much worse, so I am thankful and relieved that my friends and family are all good and the sun is now shining again.  Next time, I’ll turn the subpump on…

Lanai's Diary- Hurricane Irene is on her way, let's ride it out together

Sat. August 27- 9:31 pm EST- As I sit here watching my local news and getting constant news push notice updates on my iPhone , Irene is on her way to my area. As if that quake last week wasn't enough...

It is currently raining but the heavy winds have not arrived yet. The storm is riding the coast near Atlantic City at this time; just about 2 hours away from me in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Lanai’s Diary: 8-21-11- Going out in RL is similar to Going out in SL, except for one thing… Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Waking up at 11 am this morning, the first thing I said to myself was “OMG, What Happened Last night!?!

This weekend kicked off fairly normal as I got up nice and early Saturday. I was up before everyone else and woke them all up when I turned on the stereo to some  HIP-HOP on full blast and started cleaned my house to satisfy my mild OCD. It’s a routine that everyone in this house knows, including my little miniature pinscher, ”Hollywood”, and  he still attacks my vacuum like a rabbit raccoon. I don’t get it.

Anyways, with school about to get back in session, I took my kids shopping as my husband went to be a Judge in the 1st annual Mafia Car Show at the Allentown Fairgrounds.

SL to RL: A Possible Crashed Flying Saucer Discovered on the Ocean Floor??? No. I am not talking about in SL… - Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Many flock to Second Life© for leisure, creativity, Imagination and try to  separate themselves from the real world, and all the stress and  madness in the news these days, but no matter where you go, there is always something going on; good, bad or almost unbelievable.

When it comes to news in either Second Life or in the real world, you could say I’m a media nerd. My Iphone has a folder that contains all the major News Apps like CNN, AP, MSNBC, The White House, Fox News, The Morning Call, The Weather Channel, Discovery News and my horoscopes.

Just getting through all those headlines before bed usually leads to crazy dreams and inspires me to write stories and inform peeps of things happening.

Lanai’s Diary: July 9-16th- Greetings from Walt Disney World, Orlando Florida

Wow, I feel like I haven’t picked up my virtual pen and babbled in my diary for a loooong time but, believe me you…I have been plenty busy in both worlds the past couple weeks.

For those that assume I am a virtual news junkie, it is true, writing is a great fix and it allows be to pour out my thoughts in virtual text but a vacation was much needed.

From July 9th-July 16th, I went on a much needed vacation with my family to Disney World in Orlando, Florida and maaaaan, was it a great adventure!

Lanai’s Diary: Are Facebook Junkies taking it a little bit too far when it comes to friend lists, statuses and comments? -Lanai Jarrico reporting…

I have had facebook for the SL Enquirer, for a couple years and I must say I’m a Noob to everything except plastering update announcements, adding pics and accepting anyone who wishes to friend me.
I think when Facebook is used properly it can be very beneficial to network with like minded people and promote events and whatnot. That is why I use it. This social network gives fans the choice to follow SLE updates  or use any of the other social networks we are also a part of like twitter, MySpace, YouTube, blogger, LinkedIn, Flickr, moolto, whatever. Or you can find us in Google search.
So in that respect, get up on my friend list, anyone is welcomed, just don’t expect to hear me crying about a broken nail or giving you a play by play of my rather hectic day. It is strictly SLE business and I’m very glad to say, I have had no problems with anyone on my list and appreciate the peaceful and productive nature of the content SLE fans share.

Insight from SL Elders. Is SL losing its luster or is it just us? Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

The SL Elders are becoming harder to find these days because many of them have left the grid altogether or visit once in a while to observe progress. Most are usually harder to spot then a UFO.
Often times they can’t believe I’m still here but my response is simple. I’m a shameless SL addict and I want to continue to write about this virtual world and stay in touch with all the friends I have made through the years, but… I do question our future as the virtual world community evolves.

Being called an elder makes me feel old, but it is what it is and I have been here long enough to have seen many different phases of Second Life and a multitude of personalities come and go. It saddens me when they are avies I have known for a long time that have done great things for the SL community

Lanai’s Diary- Entry: Friday November 5, 2010 the fun of losing inventory, clothes and being in the middle of shameless sausage parties and Sex… ~Lanai Jarrico

Staff Reporter
• Friday, November 05, 2010
Nobody is safe from one of the most inconvenient SL Inventory loading issues that plague avies across the grid today. Sometimes recovering your items may take days, a week and for a few maybe never again. This can cause avies to be stuck in their houses or hiding behind bushes trying to figure out what to do with themselves. For the more fortunate, it is a good excuse to go shopping unless you’re broke.

One of the suggestions for fixing this issue usually is to clear your cache and relog. You can do this by going into your preferences. Go to your “network” and “Web” tabs, you will find a clear cache option. Once you have done that, press apply and relog. That might help….
If you are on a laptop, this could cause countless crash landings until your cheap system sorts things out. Another option would be to file a support ticket with Linden Labs and hope for the best. Emergencies like this personal fashion and props disaster has been compared to calling 911 and living in the hood. They will get to a crying cat in a tree before they get to a person beat up on the street.
