Let’s Take a Trip to Venice in Second Life- Piers Diesel Reporting...

Located on an archipelago in the North-eastern Mediterranean Sea, the city of Venice dates back 1500 years and is made up of 118 flat islands, 416 bridges and 177 canals. Long ago it was the biggest power in that region during the 1300-1500’s. Today, Venice is visited by tourists at an average of 18 million a year and is one of the famous honeymoon spots for couples who want to experience a romantic gondola ride and dine on Venetian cuisine. If you have always wanted to travel to Venice in Real Life but never had the chance, you can do that virtually. You don’t even need a passport to get there!
Venice Second Life has been created cleverly to resemble Real Life Venice with gondoliers, little cafés and the winding cobblestone streets with shops to explore. Here are a few things you can find and do in Second Life Venice.

What is a trip to Venice without Gondola rides?
Yes, it is possible to take a gondola ride at Second Life Venice. It is manually operated which means you navigate the gondolier through the waterways.
Don’t worry if you are not an experienced gondolier. It is not hard to do and you can forget that you are handling it once you sit back and enjoy the ride and views. It is perfect for a romantic date or exploring some realism in Second Life. I would recommend at least trying it to give you the Venice feel.

Rictorante Caffe Saraceno

This is a great place to meet up with friends or your partner and have a meal or even a cup of coffee while talking about your week or day. The service is excellent with attentive staff.  The restaurant overlooks the Grand Canal where you can watch people go by on the water or even by foot on the narrow pavements.  The perfect time to go is at sunset.  The sun’s reflection on the water sets the mood well.

Rialto Bridge

You may recognise this bridge as it is the exact copy to the one in Real Life the Rialto Bridge. This would be the bridge when you TP to the Venice Second Life sim be the landing point. From the Rialto Bridge you are able to wander around the sim easily by foot if you choose to not use a gondolier. It also gives you the perfect bird’s eye view of the sim allowing you to easily take good pics of the sim.
Shopping is a big deal for tourists both in the real world and in Second Life. Rialto Bridge is a good landing point to reach the shops!

Shopping in the Mediterranean

There are quite a few good shops on the sim that offer a variety of products. These shops can be found around the winding cobbled streets along the canal and also in the backstreets. Not all shops are brand names which can be good as you can sometimes find that little unusual gift for someone or even yourself. That is so fun about shopping. It is like going on a treasure hunt.

Saint Marks Square

Here you will find more gondoliers and  shops. Saint Mark’s Square is a perfect spot to take photos of your adventures.

I would definitely recommend Second Life Venice and have always visited here when I want to take stock of the day or catch up with people in Second Life.  It is definitely worth the visit.

Dining Out in Second Life- - Nena Dreadlow Reporting

Who doesn't like to eat and socialize?  In Second Life you can virtually do both.
Going to a restaurant in SL can be a fun way to socialize away from loud music and a crowd.  It is a perfect setting for a first date or place to gather with a group of friends outside of a club scene. I was able to find some great places and even met with some of the restauraunt owners.

Harborside Bistro Restaurant

Harborside Bistro Restaurant is located on the water and is full service eatery. It offers a variety of foods for breakfast and dinner including, fruit, breads, lobster and even filet mignon. You can choose to sit upstairs or downstairs. There is even a nice patio area for sitting and chatting. It’s free to eat here but of course tips are appreciated. Harborside Bistro is a nice and quaint place if you're looking for some time alone with a someone or just needs a place to yourself to come and enjoy.

After Taste
I was greeted by staff when I came to After Taste. Later I learned that these were the owners of the restaurant Ron & Savannah Kira. It was 100L per person and we’ll worth the price. I was escorted to a wonderful table by the water and they explained to me how everything works. After looking through the menu I chose my drink & meal while I chatted a bit with the owners.
They told me that the reason they wanted to open a restaurant here in Second Life  was because there weren’t  many intimate spots for couples to enjoy a evening out. I must say this restaurant is very nice. They also do cater to different events and parties. I was surprised to learn that all guests receive a frame with their photo to take home with them. What a great touch!
I had a wonderful time there and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to sit for a date or for a dinner party,

The Corner Restaurant

The owner of The Corner Restaurant was there to greet me and show me to my table by the piano. This restaurant has a country feel to it. I was given a menu of food choices and prices. They were very reasonable. This restaurant is run by owner,Bella Dela Cruz and her daughter and is family RP friendly.  Bella and I sat and talked while I ate and she told me that her family decided to open a restaurant so that large families can come and enjoy themselves. There is even a park outside for kids to enjoy. They read a book every Sunday for the children and they are given a meal and a keepsake. This is a unique touch to a virtual restaurant experience.  If you're looking to take your family out for a day then this is the place that I would recommend.

Ja ‘ Ames

Ja”Ames is a very classy restaurant.  The owner, Mrs Trenchy is the twin sister of the Corner restaurant owner. She and I talked while we sat in the elegant dining room.  She said that she wanted to bring the closeness of family together while rping a nice meal together. She also said that in rl she loves to cook so having a restaurant here in Second Life was another way for her to enjoy her love of food.  Ja ‘Ames is new but from the looks of it I think it will be a great success, They also offer catering to all types of parties.

Muirsheen Durkin Bar & Restaurant

Muirsheen Durkin bar & restaurant also known as Brunell Hall Restaurant its home to Isambard Kingdom hotel. It is a full service restaurant.  It is one of the oldest places here in Second Life dedicated to the bygone era. There is a full service bar and places to sit by the fireplace to talk. They also have a smoking room for after dinner and game Lounges where you can dance with your partner or friends. You can either enjoy the  atmosphere from either downstairs or upstairs. This is a great place for a romantic dinner for two.

Even thought avatars don’t need food for survival, the role play can be fun and entertaining. Second Life Restaurants are not only for eating but also for getting together with a special someone, friends, family or maybe even meeting someone new. Finding a place you feel relaxed can be a challenge when club scenes and parks are things you have visited enough.  Get out there, explore and visit the places that I have mentioned.  I guaranteed that you are going to have a wonderful time.

Bon Appetit!

Ice Cream Parlors, Cafes and Fast Food Joints in Second Life– Shaneos Howlett Reporting

Dinner dates are good for the evening but what about something during the day that does not involve having to  get dress up or watch your diet.  Leave the dress shoes at home and throw on some sneakers or flip flops and do take out.

With Spring approaching people are out and about enjoying the outdoors after a long cold winter. Here are some places in Second Life that couples and families can go to grab a quick virtual bite, hang out and socialize.

Dinner and a Movie in Second Life- Nena Dreadlow Reporting…

Many couples love to do dinner and a movie on date night, but in Second Life can you really enjoy that date night experience?  The answer is yes!
Not all outings have to involve dancing at a venue or staying at home lounging around on couches. Changing settings and doing different things can be fun as well as keep relationships fun and interesting. To bring on the romance, simply set your sun position to midnight or sunset.

I have chosen some of my favorite restaurant and movie theaters to go to on a special date or going out with friends.  Of course Avatars don’t need to eat to survive. It is mainly about spending time with your significant other and friends while socializing or enjoying a good movie together. Let’s start with some restaurants first.

With increased internet usage, online dating has taken the world by storm. Couples who are thousands of miles apart can now find love via their computers. Using web cams, instant messaging, and even virtual worlds, couples who normally would not have ever met, are now meeting and falling in love.
Virtual worlds such as Second Life, give online dating a twist. Couples can go for a movie, grab a bite to eat, and snuggle up in front of a fire, all from the comfort of their living rooms and without even next to each other!
