Willowdale High School - An Education Experience -- Amanda432 Cheviot Reporting

For me, I had the same reservations. Strangely, teaching high school in Second Life is too close to my real life experience and a lot of us in Second Life are trying to separate the two. And even stranger, I teach High School Algebra. When making your dream in Second Life come true, the last thing I thought that would be is being a high school Algebra teacher.
Willowdale High School (WHS) is my first SL high school (yes, there are actually others out there!) and I’ve been there for almost a year. Why do I stay? Well, because it’s fun. But not only is WHS an education environment, it is also an RP. People role play as teachers, students, and WHS staff. This was a new experience for me because I’m not a general RP’er. There are times I’ve found myself having to role play as a teacher with the students and times I’ve actually taught something in class. Then again, isn’t this the same in real life?

Press Release : Launch of a new group for promising starter models, “A Star Is Born!”
SECOND LIFE PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 29, 2012
Announcement: Launch of a new group for promising starter models, “A Star Is Born!”
Kay Fairey announces today that she is launching a non-profit group that is dedicated to providing promising starter models with actual runway show experience to initiate their career start.
This group will be led by Kay Fairey and will admit a maximum of 20 new graduate students from any model academy in Second Life to provide real on-the-job runway show experiences which the members can list in their resume when applying for agency castings. Kay stresses that the group is neither an academy nor an agency and will not be affiliated with any particular model academy. All members will be asked to leave after they have three show experiences including shows by other groups in order to open their spots to newer graduates. This activity will continue while Kay is able to provide this service.
Shows will be organized and run by Kay at runways that will be rented with the support of BLVD Agency under BOSL Organization, where Kay is currently CEO. Blackbarbie Bravin and Wicca Merlin, who support this concept, have joined the group as Officers.
There will be a minimum payment made to all models which will be less than the market average for professional models but Kay stresses that she wants future top models to be accustomed to the idea of paid modeling jobs as she is also an avid promoter of paid shows.
“Models spend a lot of money to style the given outfits so that they look good. I think it is only fair that models get some payment even if they will usually spend more than they earn. Free shows with no payments made to models are taking advantage of the money models pay out of their pockets to make the outfit and the agency look good and this is not fair to them.”
The way new graduate students are invited to this group may change in the future but for now only those who have been recommended by various modeling academies will be invited to the group to make sure the promising future top models get priority in taking advantage of this system.
A separate letter will be sent out soon to modeling academy Owners and Directors.
A special thanks goes to Frolic Mills of BOSL Organization for supporting this concept and allowing this group to use his runways as show venues.

Time and time over again, it has been proven that man has always been fascinated with fight games that pit one with another -- from gladiator style arenas to underground fight clubs to animal
derbies to modern day boxing. Perhaps it is the thrill of bloodlust, or maybe the morbid fascination of observing one fight for survival, or perhaps just the excitement of tempting the fates and
wondering if the gods will favor the one you bet on this time. Whatever it is, people would certainly want to see and experience brutal brawls.

Nonprofit organizations are an important and crucial part of Second Life. They help out with real world issues, but in Second Life and that interests me. I could go on forever about all the nonprofits, but there are a few that I chose to cover specifically: The Giving Circles Network, Project Jason, and NSW Animal Rescue.

Good news for space fans in Second Life. The Spaceport Alpha sim, home to the International Space Museum or ISM is back online after having been closed for a few weeks. There had been some concerns that the return of the place would be further delayed due to Linden Lab asking for both the back payments and a purchase fee for a new sim. But they were laid to rest when on Wednesday February 22nd the sim was back online for all to see.

Holidays, Honeymoons and Hook Ups .... Dragonheart Spiritweaver Reporting...

Dragonheart Spiritweaver, holidays honeymoons and hook ups, Nikolai Warden, SLE Spotlight

Nikolai Warden and his partners have created a romantic refuge for patrons looking for something unique and private on short term rental basis. “Holidays, Honeymoons, and Hook Ups” is a set of romantic venues for people who want a private place to enjoy their significant other but don’t want the hefty tiers when they are on SL for short periods of time. I sat down with Nikolai as part of his SLE Spotlight letting our readers get to know this dynamic personality who with his partner and best friend is reaching out to a whole community in need of a place to hang their hat… temporarily. *wink*
So what originally brought you to SL?
“My best friend, we lived far from one another we have been friends since I was in first grade and she was in second grade. She said it would be a good way for us to hang about with one another long distance. It has proven to be the case. In RL, I had been working third shifts for years, and we never had a chance to see one another.”
Cool, so when you popped into Help Island what was your first impression?
“My first impression was that I had to disable those annoying pop up instructions! *laugh* Back then, people who hung out there seemed like they had to present themselves as eccentric as possible—the scare or dazzle newbie scenario.”
Looking for something to do this weekend .....

Poses and animations play a very big part in our Second Life, from the AO’s we use to our every day poses. There is an animation and a pose for just about everything in Second Life. Poses depict our stance, walk, style and makes us as individual or unusual as we want our avatar to be.
Recently, I went to the Proposers sim for their fundraising expo for The Autism Society Of America (ASA).
I spoke with Pollux Baxton (Proposers owner) and Samara Pennell (Proposers manager) in regards to the expo.
