IN MUSIC- Quinton's journey through Music- Sandy Demina Reporting...

Quinton Whitman's (Tallan White / Tim White in RL) has an unique style that has been shaped by a myriad of influences. From the traditional Appalachian mountain music and storytelling of his grandparents and artist such as Woddy Guthrie; to the bluegrass and country music that surrounded him growing up by those such as Doc Watson and Johnny Cash; to the folk and political songs of singer/songwriters like Muddy Waters, Pete Seager, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, David Bromberg and Crosby, Stills & Nash that inspired him in his teens; to the intricate, haunting picking styles of an assortment of artists.

Throw in 4 years performing country with the Flaherty Brothers Band, a 12 year jaunt with the jazz/fusion band Still Portrait, then 5 years with the rock band The Ride, and you begin to understand the depth that is evident in his singing, playing and writing.

Every year The Compassionate Coalition Hosts the Miss Tropic Hawaiian Pageant on the Island Sim of Oahu. This year’s fabulous event took place on Saturday June 19, 2010. Hosted by Twstd Ruggles and this year’s co host and Musician LANCE Rembrandt who performed for the first hour as the audience arrived and took their seats.
All 5 judges including myself got comfortable in our assigned seats as we preparing ourselves for the event.. All 18 contestants had to choose 3 styles to present. First were formal gowns.
These beautiful ladies had lots of style class and grace as they carried themselves down the runway taking a spin at the end and walking to their places on the stage. From the first round, already being a judge for this event was becoming a challenge. After tallying up our votes for the first round. The top 10 moved on to the next round....

For Round 2 the ladies wore their swimsuits and Swags. For the men in the audience I’m sure this was the highlight of the evening. There were some pretty hot swim wear going on. I think I may want to put in a suggestion for a Mr. Tropic Hawaiian. I would not mind being the judge for the guys. In fact, I would be right at the end of the run way waiting with the baby oil believe me on that.

Anyways before I get carried away in a day dream, the 3rd round of the pageant was the cake topper. Judges were given the opportunity to question these ladies. We each got to ask 2-3 each and casted our final votes based on their answers.
The moment of truth finally arrived as the finalist all held hands in anticipation of the Winner announcement. There was a brief silence in the air as the 3rd and 2nd place contestants were called.
Then Aubrey Maskelyne’s Name was announced as the Winner of Miss Tropic Hawaiian 2010!
Between the Wooohooooo, applauds and congratulations, Aubrey accepted her Title, crown and roses gracefully.

After the event I caught up with newly crowned Aubrey Maskelyne who met with me at the Media Center for an interview.

Fashion with Compassion

For most of us, fashion offers us a chance for self expression-and a little fun. Clothes reflect our mood, attitude to life and how we want to be perceived by others and there’s no greater thrill than a lengthy shopping spree to lift the spirits and make the day seem just that little bit brighter. Even in Second Life, ask any woman how she likes to spend her free time and well earned Linden Dollars and chances are, her answer will be a full on assault of the grids finest boutiques. But for one woman, Second Life fashion provides more than a fun diversion; for her it is a vehicle of positive change and a tool to highlight awareness of some very real life issues that can affect any of us at any time in our lives.

Keira Seerose is a self confessed fashion lover, but a debilitating health problem means that in real life, she doesn’t get many opportunities to indulge in her passion. Keira suffers from acute social anxiety disorder, a condition which leaves people anxious in social situations and can strike without warning in either childhood or as an adult. While most people in her situation would hide away, Kiera decided to use the fashion world of Second Life as a platform to highlight mental and emotional illness-a subject that even now, can be taboo despite an estimated 450 million people suffering from some form of mental health issue worldwide. Moved by these statistics, Keira decided to launch ‘The Black and Blue Fair’ a fashion event organised in partnership with some of the grids top designers to help raise awareness-not funds-and to encourage SL residents to think about mental health issues in a new light.

MUSIC- Successfully crossing over from RL into the metaverse on the soundwaves - Lacy Muircastle reporting ...

Ganjo Mokeev
Ganjo Mokeev SL™ musician aka GaryO (Gary Olivas) is a professional musician in the Denver, Colorado area in the USA. He is a singer, songwriter and guitarist. His musical styles range from blues, R and B, funk, jazz and rock. He plays his own original songs and arranged covers.

Ganjo had been playing other mmorpg games and was getting bored with the same type of Fantasy roles in each game, so he searched for other ones and came upon Second Life™. It then dawned on him that SL™ was a completely different type of virtual world when he began going to venues that had live music. It was at this point that SL™ caught his interest intensely.

His repertory in SL includes different music styles, as Jazz Ballads, Jazz Standards, Bossa Nova, Blues, Funk, Reggae Roots, Ballads and Tango.

Interview
SANDY: Where are you from and how long have you been playing music?SEBA: I live in the beautiful town of Buenos Aires in Argentina and I'm always been a musician, since I've been playing music for 15 years so far.

SANDY:Tell us about the music you play.
SEBA:I'm definitely a sax player above all! I play Alto and Tenor Sax.
I love to perform almost all the styles of music always with a Jazz influence inside.
I think that there are no boundaries into the music and what mainly inspires me during my performances is the love I want to share and the idea that a Better World is still possible:music is such an universal way to communicate this!

SANDY:Which song would you most like to have written?SANDY:Of course "Imagine" by the great John Lennon!

SANDY: How did you discover it?SEBA: I remember that a I was told about this virtual world by a friend but what actually did push me in has been the chance to play my music and share it around the world :this is the magic in SL, you can really have an international audience, and this is something that it's not easy to get even in an international capital of entertetainement as Buenos Aires!

SANDY:Did you ever think to use your real name for what you usually do in Second Life?SEBA:Yes , because for me to play in SL or in RL it is the same thing.

SANDY:What you like to do here in Second Life when you are not playing?SEBA:I like to go and listen to the gigs of other musicians and also to Art Exhibits: I've become a friend of so many interesting artists inworld and it's always a pleasure to discover what human creativity can do!

SANDY:Do you think SL can be a valid showcase for your RL works?SEBA: Definitely I'm sure of this! That's why I'm so involved into the SL live music scene!

SANDY:Do you use other kind of digital promotions?
SEBA: I have my MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/sebasaxo)and I have my listening booth inworld (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Trax/158/110/27)where you can listen to the tunes from my brand new SLCD released in May 2010.

SANDY:Where do you see yourself a year from now:will Second Life still exist?SEBA:I think that SL will still exist and it will keep on giving a lot of opportunities to all the musicians who want to share their music all around in the (real) world!

There comes a time in your life when you find yourself questioning the future and reflecting on your past. What is life all about? What is our purpose?
Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

Many of us have questions still unanswered. Others just live for the here and now.
I've always been inquisitive about our past and needed to know about the things that happened to bring us all to this point. Mainly my interest is in history, art, music and people who do extraordinary things. I love learning about our ancient past too.

Be it from the pyramids of Egypt, The Roman Empire in Italy, the Mayan Temples in Mexico, Atlantis, Ancient Greece, the oracle of Delphi, Mount Machu Picchu; a Colombian Inca site, and other fascinating histories and wonders of the world.

It is from those places that I believe we as people have all evolved from.
