SL VENUES: Graine Macbain and her "Azure" dream in Second Life- Sandy Demina Reporting...

Staff Reporter
• Monday, October 11, 2010
You are almost guaranteed a good night out at the Azure Club, house of smooth sounds and cool time.
Pick the right night and you are likely to see one band you desperately try and remember the name of the next morning amongst the four or five who usually play each gig night. There is a relaxed vibe with an open-minded clientele who all have an obvious love of live music, which is appreciated by the bands, many of who are starting out their careers, who regularly pull out all the stops here.

I like to pass nice little deals on to my readers now and then... I can kick some Sports info to you, or I can lead you to Leisure.

I manage to play SL without putting any RL money into it. I'd have a hard time explaining it (investing money on SL) to my husband, who thinks of a computer as a strange box that sits on my desk which can summon box scores and Led Zeppelin songs when he asks me to have it do so.

Like everyone else, I'd like to have a house of my very own here on SL. Unfortunately, one only makes so much money writing/stripping and so forth. It's hard to make enough money to rent a house without investing IRL money into it.

I'm fairly cheap on SL. Not by design... Lanai pays well, and I'm hardly poor. I just don't spend wildly, and I love bargains. I paused while writing this article because the SLE Media Group coughed up a LM to a place that sells gowns for 10 Ls. We'll get to them (Passion For Fashion) some other time. The point is that I live conservatively.

Besides, I don't really need a whole house. All I see me doing with one is changing, hiding, and writing this column. I have very little sex for someone who goes to the places I go looking as I do. Thousands of Ls would be a terrible waste if it went to renting me a house.

All I really need is a room, a bed, and a desk. A view helps, too. For the money I'm willing to spend for a place, I can't be picky. But if I hunt around some, I find the things I want.

Happily, I found such a place. I actually rented a room here, so you'll be my neighbor if you come by. Let's check out Tropical Sound Paradise.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: Avatar Repertory Presents Timeless OEDIPUS REX

The Avatar Repertory Theater has one more weekend of performances remaining to their latest production, Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, and it is a performance well worth your time and your $L. Fresh on the heels of a sellout performance of Alice in WonderSland, Avatar Repertory Theater explores a battle between fate, power, and love through the ancient story of King Oedipus and Queen Jocasta. Audiences will be immersed in ancient Thebes, which has been brought to life in vibrant color by the Avatar Repertory creative team.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: ANY VIRTUAL INK - Dubhna Rhiadra weaves journeys in Second Life

Think about it! Storytelling in a virtual world: people sitting at computers controlling avatars who are sitting somewhere in a virtual environment and listening to someone tell or read a story. On the face of it there’s one reaction – Boring! That’s a lot of sitting! But the wonder of spoken stories in Second Life (SL) comes from one magical source alone, and that is the ability of a voice to enchant, express, and transport you away from all that sitting to somewhere you have never been before. I have heard a gaggle of “storytellers” in Second Life performing audible stories. No matter how you dress it up, if the voice is about as expressive as a paper sack it doesn’t matter what the storyteller is presenting. Of the people doing traditional telling in English on the grid, few can match Welsh-based storyteller Dubhna Rhiadra for her ability to capture your fancy with her voice alone, and spirit you away to another realm all together as she weaves a tale.

Zerbie Magic was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She has been singing in real life for 13 years, and recently started performing in Second Life where she can realize her mission of "singing to the World."
Zerbie's passion is music and she is thrilled to be able to sing full time. She is doing what she loves to do and does soooo well. Fall in love as your soul is renewed by her music.... by a voice that is rich, smooth, powerful and sweet!

Zerbie sings covers of musicians such as Toni Braxton, Sarah McLachlan, and Savage Garden, with an original tune or two thrown in to the mix!! Her unique and varied style cross genres to include R&B, Pop, and Jazz.

SPORTS & LEISURE: MUSIC- Covering The Cover Bands -Stacey Cardalines Reporting...

Phoenix laying down the Rock Law at the fabulous Highland Arena

I thought I'd use the Leisure part of this column to show some love for the Cover Bands on SL.

A cover band is someone who assumes some of the persona of a famous IRL band (no offense to SL artists, but I haven't seen a Jak Streeter cover band yet) and performs their show for a crowd. No attempt is made to fool the audience into thinking John Lennon or Jimi Hendrix had returned from the dead.

The bands covered aren't always dead. I think all of the guys from KISS are still alive, although- with the facepaint- they could easily hide a replacement. They could be on their 8th guitarist for all I know.

The SL Enquirer is not afraid of cover bands. We had a Guns n Roses cover band in our old Friday Night Conversation feature. Slash was identical...although, when Slash spoke, he sounded like a woman from Missouri. Motherf*cker could sling the axe, though...

Some bands don't bother trying to dress up as the band. I can understand this, and can agree with and enjoy the concept of playing the music as a tribute. I also agree that there is no need for a second, say, Ozzy.

Now... I give to you....Phoenix!

I know some of the Phoenix girls from my gym, so I'll just run their notecard for you.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: No Limits with New Group "STORIES UNLIMITED!"

Announcing a new subscriber group in SL which has recently opened: STORIES UNLIMITED! Subscriber groups, like hippo-groups, are run by kiosk networks within the grid and allow residents to get information without adding an additional standard group to their profile. Like a mailing list for a real world magazine or a service like Netflix, it is subscribed to or unsubscribed to as the resident wishes. STORIES UNLIMITED! announced Sunday that it was open for subscriber enrollment, for kiosk placement at venues interested in being part of the network, and for posting requests from individual venues and presenters.

Lanai’s Diary Entry Monday October 4, 2010- New Season, New Attitudes and New Changes for 2011. -Lanai Jarrico

With Fall officially here and things starting to pick up after the Summer SL drought, I thought I’d bust out my diary and write a little about what’s been going on and how I hope some things can change for the better as we approach 2011.

I’ve been observing people and places in the virtual world for a long time and what never seize to amaze me, is the unpredictable nature of this environment and the behaviors of people who you may have done business with or befriended each other. Friendships or partnerships always begin in a mutual agreement and everyone on the same page (usually), but when decisions are made for the improvement of one’s own goals. The other party may not agree because it might not benefit them, but who’s to say the person making the decision, can’t or shouldn’t, if it is to improve on their Second Life experience?

SPORTS & LEISURE- SFL, Second Football League in SL First Pre-Season Game, Attempt #1 - Courtesy of Youtube.com/SportsFaninSL

• Saturday, October 02, 2010

Video Description:

This is the SFL, Second Football League in SL, run by Romeo Torvalar. This is the league's first attempt at a pre-season game with players, fans, and cheerleaders. Hyped as the "best football in SL" and "Madden style football in SL," this in my opinion is a disaster ... I'll let you be the judge though. I am free to post this video under "fair use" laws, as it is being used for "news reporting" and "criticism."

Fair use is a doctrine in United States copyright law that allows limited use of copyrighted material without requiring permission from the rights holders, such as for commentary, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching or scholarship.
