FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Relay For Life of Second Life shatters records in 2011, raises US$375,000 for cancer research

Relay For Life, the signature fundraising event of the American Cancer Society, has once again shattered records in Second Life.
Less than halfway through the 2011 Relay season, the Relay For Life of Second Life had already raised more than one million dollars all-time.
At the Wrap-Up Party on Saturday, August 20, 2011 Event Chair MamaP Beerbaum proudly announced that the seventh Relay For Life of Second Life had set a new season fundraising record of US$375,000, had a record number of 140 teams, and a record number of over 3,000 relayers.
This year’s theme was ‘Seasons of Hope’ and was the largest to date, with a track lined by luminaria winding through 41 sims of amazing builds representing the different seasons. Some 2,140 avatars completed one or more laps, a combined total of 3,486 laps, and visited the campsites and the designer sims. And 4,817 luminaria were lit in support of loved ones going through treatment, and in memory of those heroes who have passed on.

SLE Business Scoop – Are you role playing Business in SL? Here are some very helpful hints on starting a business from scratch. Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

I’ve been in Second Life long enough to throw my two cents in when it comes to business. I’m no oracle that claims to know it all but some things are no brainers.  I have met many peeps in this virtual world that take business seriously and others well…let’s just say are still in the practice stages. Some of the problems that we face in virtual business today are the technical difficulties that can frazzle ones creativity or prolong the process of creating products and putting them in the virtual market. Let's view those issues as our virtual "natural disasters". There isn't really much we can do about those, except brave the bad  SLweather and carry on.

One of the first things any establishment here in Second Life needs is a strong foundation. You can’t build a sandcastle and expect it to withstand the winds of change that occur here on a regular basis.

Lanai’s Diary Monday August 29, 2010 Quakes, Hurricanes and floods OH My!

Well…Hurricane Irene has passed but not without slapping up the East coast.  By the time it started really raining down on us over here in  Northeast Pa, the winds were a bit weakened from the initial 90 MPH winds being reported when it began. This carried on from Saturday night into early Sunday morning.  The major concern for my area was flooding. It caused some roads to shut down, the first day of school was cancelled and we ended up with about 4 inches of water in the basement.  Since flooding has happened in the past, the majority of our belongings were in plastic bin, with the exception of some loose toys, Christmas ornaments, a guitar, an Xbox, 2 TVs, a treadmill , bowflex  and some cardboard boxes that are now sitting out with the trash as fans dry out the basement to prevent mold.  It could have been much worse, so I am thankful and relieved that my friends and family are all good and the sun is now shining again.  Next time, I’ll turn the subpump on…

It is currently raining but the heavy winds have not arrived yet. The storm is riding the coast near Atlantic City at this time; just about 2 hours away from me in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

BREAKING NEWS: August 23, 2011- A 5.9 Earthquake shakes the Eastcoast around 2:30 pm est today. It’s Epicenter was in Richmond, Virginia. Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

* This Earthquake was downgraded to 5.8 at 4:15pm EST August 23, 2011
While working on SLE news propped up in my bed, I felt the entire room shake, at first I thought it was one of my kids playing a prank on me like they do, because my bed literally began to shake as if someone grabbed my bedpost and was shaking it. This continued for a good 5-10 seconds, I abruptly got up to look for the source pulling the prank and realized it wasn’t just my bed moving but everything, including  the heavy  stained glass light fixture in my foyer. I called to my daughter, who was watching television and asked her if she felt it and within a few minutes news started to flood my iphone from family and friends including all of the news sources I have on push notice.

With natural disasters seeming to come more frequently, I never would have thought an earthquake would hit this close to home. I live in a pretty safe place in Pennsylvania and the most I have ever felt was weakened hurricane winds and rain coming from the Atlantic, a few feet of snow, some flooding in the lower regions and tornado warnings, but nothing like this!

Only in the past five years have I seen an increase in the strength of these natural disasters and can now add possible earthquakes to the list.

As I write this, peeps in Washington DC and the Pentagon are evacuating for safety. Here in the northeast part of Pa, there doesn’t seem to be any damage, I am safe and my home is intact.

I hope that those directly affected by this event are now safe and for those around the world just hearing the news, here is the latest developments from where I am.

What caused this earthquake in Virginia?

BOOK Review: No Money Marketing: All You Need Is Like by Author Angela Yuriko Smith Published August 21, 2011

E-Book Descritption

May 2011 saw the entry of another fiction. The only thing different about it was that this book was a test subject for some marketing experiments. The results were staggering. This was done with minimal to no cost using skills easily obtained from online tutorials. This book is a must have tool for today’s indie authors to promote their work to a massive audience for a minimal cost.
