Trippin with Price/ Take a Risk

Ok! I have never taken drugs, and never will. If you know me....Be Quiet! I'm reporting here. I have to say in a good way this Sim is like being on acid. Here are some new words my wonderful SL Readers I want you to remember, I will use them many times. This Sims was “Frosty”, totally “Iced”, really “Frigid”.

Do You Need Lindens? -- NemzKat Resident Reporting

Podex Bank is the cheapest Linden Exchange in Second Life; it is even cheaper than Linden Labs.

Dreams, More Than Just a Place to Build -- Lukes Lionheart Reporting

The Sojourner Memorial

What started as a story about a building contest turned into the story of "The Sojourner" and the Love of a Mouse.

I'm a builder here on SL and a couple of weeks back, I went to one of my haunts to watch a “Speed Building” contest. While there, I saw the notice for the monthly building contests. The theme for the month of March was “Green”. I thought, Wonderful! What a great theme, green, as in the environment. That would probably make a great story. So I sent an IM the owner of the “Dream Builders” group, a person by the name of “The Sojourner”, to ask for an interview. A little while later, I received an IM from Golda Stine, who said she was the sim caretaker. This struck me as a bit odd, but we set up a time to get together later that day. It turns out Golda is a pint-sized mouse with a giant heart of gold. After some initial chit chat, I got down to business and asked questions about the history of the sim, the how and why of the group and the March build contest. This is when I realized the story was not going to be about the contest; it is the story of The Sojourner.

Ozimal Bunnies – 2 Years On and Still Hopping! -- EDD Graycloud Reporting

Two years after its release, Ozimals bunnies continue to hop among the SL community. After more than 6000 plus bunnies and nests in total, I reflect upon some if its finer points and why I still hold on to some of my prized 11-prim pets as many move on to other virtual prim pets and interests.

Bahiyaa Jumanya and Digital Arts Talent Agency -- Pandora Drezelan Reporting

It's Women's History Month -- in real life and in Second Life, too, and it's a great time to spotlight women on the grid who are looking to do big things! And Bahiyaa Jumanya is one such woman. I met with Bahiyaa Jumanya, the owner and CEO of Digital Arts Talent Agency, and was given a tour of her amazing office and home.

SL Newser Commentary: Linden Lab Is Destroying It's Newfound Trust

Longtime users of Second Life are all too familiar with the days of M Linden. Before him, Second Life was truly seen as "Your World, Your Imagination." But then, Linden Lab began making a number of questionable moves that didn't seem to make any sense, except possibly for short term profits at the expense of long term, or just made no sense at all. People began to have less and less faith in the Lab to run the virtual world in a competent manner. The doubt was to the point among some as to question any new move Linden Lab would make out of fear they'd just screw it up and end up making the Grid worse off.  Read More

Trippin with Price / IMAGINARY WHIMSY WITH A DARK SMILE

[.XIV] Evanesce is a SIM with a twisted dream. When you arrive to the SIM you have to adjust your viewing for a perpetual night. I find this setting best, let me tell you why.
"Read More "  <br>

It’s like you have stepped into the Mad Hatters head during a dream. When you arrive your welcomed by a eerie floating  “Welcome “message as you find yourself standing in the middle of a pond. Take your time to get you visual barring, trust me you will need them. Alice  (Alice in Wonderland) does not live here.

When you’re ready to walk it will seem like your floating on marsh like lands. Go ahead and fulfill your god like desires by walking across its waters. Every day modern clothing seems out of place in this space, so I got into my own whimsical character “Prissy on Wanderdust” and headed out to explore.

TIME FOR A CURE

Time for a cure is the theme for the music festival running in conjunction with Relay for Life in Second Life.

Two Relay For Life in SL teams are hosting a music festival which runs from March 10th through to 17th March and which will consist of live performers, DJ’s, Poets as well as a Nickelback tribute band. This dual team event has the two teams collaborating for this worthy cause.

Still Braveheart, who has put in a great deal of the legwork in organising the festival explains how the team she represents is made up “The team, ‘SL Music Races for a Cure’, is made up of all the different avenues of the music community; performers, managers, venue owners, fans, music group owners. This is a wonderful way for the entire music community to achieve a few things--camaraderie, exposure to the music community, and most importantly, the ability to make a difference in the battle against cancer, a devastating disease that has affected everyone in some way shape or form. It is a team made up of 120 members from all walks of the live music community”. The SL Music Races for a Cure team have already accumulated over US$800 for this Relay for Life season.

The other team participating in the music festival is ‘Hero’s For Life’. NightWalker Galaxy representing ‘The Hero’s For Life’ says of his team’ “this team was formed by 4 People who wanted to help in the fight against cancer...We have based our theme after the marvel comic book heroes who are there for anyone that is in need of them...The motto of the Hero’s is ‘Stand Strong against cancer’.... Each member of the team has their own ability and brings their own helping hand and together there isn’t anything we will not do or put together to help in this fight.” Hero’s is a much smaller team but has a big heart and heart and compassion can't be measured in numbers.....

The venue itself is located at the corner of Relay Boulevard and Cure Avenue. There will be vendors available which will house only Relay sale items, along with the regular shops along the street. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/the%20breakers/32/152/22

Still Braveheart concludes by saying “We are looking forward to the best Relay For Life Season ever....having fun and making a difference in the battle against cancer.”

$200K USD in Bitcoins Stolen -- Allen Eppenberger Reporting

I learned last evening from Technovelgy.com that an amount totaling BTC 46,000 in the digital currency called “Bitcoin” was siphoned away from a cloud service called Linode.com. That company issued a statement on their site, which I found on Facebook: http://status.linode.com/2012/03/manager-security-incident.html The story first broke March 1st on Bitcoinmedia.com.

VirWoX.com, a currency exchange site who trades in Linden Dollars, also does business in Bitcoins. I contacted them for a comment. Their anticipated reply was “...given that this event is completely unrelated to Second Life, (it) did not affect us”. This is fortunate, as it does speak of the incident being completely isolated. I'm sure there are many other sites that deal in Bitcoins that are unaffected as well.

What makes this story important is the fact that the default world is increasingly leaning towards virtual currencies as the global economy continues to fluctuate. The fact that we occupy Second Life means that we all deal with Linden Dollars. Many of us also will also be dealing with Facebook Credits soon. We will expect our virtual wallets to be secure. Just because our digital currency has no physical paper equivalency doesn't mean that it is any less of a medium of trade. Most of the global wealth is actually traded in ones and zeros. We use credit and debit cards. And many third world countries rely on cell phones to do their transactions. All of these mediums are heavily dependent on a secure digital system of exchange.

While Google's Eric Schmidt has stated at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, that Bitcoin is unregulated and therefore undesirable (my paraphrase), we will still be trading in Bitcoins, Linden Dollars, and other digital currencies in the foreseeable future. It will be vitally important to treat these every bit as respected as US dollars, Euros, Yen, or any of the physical currencies that are traded.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: StoryFest Returns to the Grid

For a second year, presenters, poets, and storytellers will gather at Bran for a day of adventures, and journeys, satyre, humor, and delight - all presented through stories presented live in voice.  "It's agreat line up of diverse presentations," said Dubhna Rhiadra, well know wandering half-elven storyteller and one of the event's hosts, "I am particularly gratified that there will be feegles represented this year."  The one day celebration begins Saturday morning at 10:00am, with the last session beginning at 5::00pm (all times SLT).  An expanded run down of the schedule is posted on the StoryFest Events Blog.

Inside the World of Relay for Life - Part Two -- Coco Lierfatte Reporting

This is a continuation of yesterday’s piece on Relay for Life. It was difficult to write about such a wonderful organization (and the wonderful people a part of RFL) in just one article. I had the pleasure to sit down and talk with a few Relay for Life veterans to learn about their joining of RFL and how the organization has impacted their lives.

In memory of Courtesan DeCuir

As the various events for The Relay for Life for 2012 get ready to kick off I would like to share this story with you.

In 2007 one Courtesan DeCuir arrived in Second Life. Courtesan DeCuir who had been a prior cancer survivor took Relay for Life very seriously. One year she did a tribute as her music Idol “Martina McBride” during Relay for Life to help those who were in need and another time we heard Courtesan speak once more through Martina McBride in the words of her release “I’m Gonna Love You Through It”.

Now it's forced smiles and baggy shirts

To hide what the cancer took from her

But she just wants to feel like a woman again

She said, "I don't think I can do this anymore"

He took her in his arms and said “That's what my love is for”

In her time in SL, Courtesan met and eventually married Ortho Vargas. Courtesans’ impact on Ortho was immediate. She mentioned to her friends that her greatest moment was when he took a picture of her hair and with that image he created the REDHEAD.

On the very last day of Relay for Life 2011, Courtesan DeCuir passed away from a brief illness. Her loss has transcended friendship and family.

The team at JCS decided to dedicate the ‘Devoted to a Cure’ logo for the 2012 Relay for Life to her.

The BASS GUITAR is the BC RICH READHEAD. The original graphic in the guitar is of Courtesans hair.

The Four Strings signify the four years Courtesan blessed us with her presence. 2007 to 2011. Each year symbolizing a year. The wings signify her Transition and Ascension into heaven. At the very top behind the neck of the Guitar you will see a heart; the shadows mean that she continues to reach out to everyone. You will also notice two streaks of water; the first streak is to remind us of the tears shed when we learned she had passed away. The Second streak is for the tears shed on the day of her memorial. Behind the wings are linked music notes. These represent the harmony Ortho and Courtesan shared with one another and to remind us of the music that brought them together.

The connected circles you see are really a C and an O = Courtesan and Ortho.

And finally the last partially filled in circle is called the circle of life. JCS believe that it takes a lifetime to really get to know someone, especially when that person accepts your hand and agrees to share that lifetime with you. They also feel that Courtesan was taken away too soon. So they left this circle partially unfinished to remind us all, just how precious life truly is.

Please, if you have the means, give to Relay for Life. No one is promised tomorrow. Only with your help can we give hope to those that are still trying to complete their Circle of Life.

Dedicated to Courtesan DeCuir by

Johnathan Hiess, Jenna Coppola, Tari Ember and the Entire JCS Family

Inside the World of Relay for Life - Part One -- Coco Lierfatte Reporting

Relay for Life is an amazing organization. It was founded in real life in 1985, and they established the organization in Second Life in 2004. The expansion of Relay for Life once they started in Second Life is tremendous; this season alone there are 96 teams, and over 2,000 relayers and the season hasn't even started! This season starts March 10th, 2012, and it's expected to be a great season this year. As the season's premiere approaches, I got to sit down with some of the people who help make Relay for Life possible.
