GeekSpeak – drugs: legalise them! Or not? Join the discussion Saturday August 5th at 12pm SLT

This week we will talk about drugs.  Some countries allow them, some countries fight them.  Some impose the death penalty for dealing in them.

Should some drugs be made legal?  Are there some that should always remain illegal?  Maybe you think there are some drugs that are now legal but should become illegal.

Would society be better or worse if drugs were legalised?  Is it even possible to keep drugs illegal if enough people want them?  Prohibition was a disaster in America and simply led to a huge increase in crime and more drinking.  Would legal drugs lead to everyone becoming addicted?  Or would drugs fade away because they were not cool anymore?

Should we keep drugs illegal for the sake of everyone’s health?  Then again, are there drugs that should be legalised for medical reasons?

Smoke that spliff and join us to talk on a high level.

Hot Spots for a Hot First Date in Second Life - Camury Reporting

So, the long-awaited moment arrived: The hot date. The first date is where the fun really begins, and some planning is needed to get everything right.

The first encounter is all about enjoying the company of someone new and intriguing and sets the tone for a potential relationship. It can ignite the fire of passion or it can be ruin. Planning a venue and date, so that both have a great time in SL, is important and helps make your meeting a success.

Ready to add some spice to your virtual life? Our Hot Spots tips will help you plan your hot first date so you can be sure that it will be enjoyable and perhaps the first of many more gatherings to come.

La Bella Luna

Enjoy the Beautiful Sun Kissed Beach with Cuddle / Sex areas, Surf and dancing. Enjoy buying a beautiful gift for your special someone at one of the local shops.

Atiyas Landing
If you are looking for an adult environment without being judged on occasional adult activities, this is the place to go. Explore the BDSM castle and discover many places to enjoy some private time with the loved one.

If your first date was great and you are interested in a second date with your "new love," tell him! However, if you are shy but want to leave open the possibility of a second meeting, perhaps you could suggest by saying: "It was a beautiful meeting, I really enjoyed it."
If you are sure that you do not want a second date, it is important that you be honest and not create expectations in the other person to avoid future hassles and hurt feelings. Honesty is really the best policy; And it is an apprenticeship that you can take forward in your close relationship.

Even if you do not plan to see that person, again it is respectful to thank her and wish her luck in her quest. If we were all a little more respectful and kind to each other, the meetings would be much easier.

Sansar goes into open beta - Lacy Muircastle reporting...

Any opinions stated in this article are mine and not that of the owners and publishers of the SL Enquirer.

Are those of us who enjoy dabbling in virtual worlds, with virtual lives and experiences just suckers for virtually nothing?

Virtual life is an escape from reality is it not?  It’s a way of taking your dreams and making something of them.  It’s about socialisation in an increasingly isolating real world.

More and more of us work from home these days, which means that more and more of us will want to find ways of integrating into society in alternative forms.  Enter Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and many other social media applications.  They serve the purpose of keeping us connected, but I don’t believe that it’s the same as socialising.  Before the appearance of social media, there was Second Life.

I read an article which said that SL died when social media hit the scene.  Maybe it stalled, but it didn’t die.  Second Life is very much alive and well.  The fluidity of those who are resident is a constant, but it continues to offer the platform to be who you want to be and to be able to do what you want to do.

All the world’s a stage, and that goes for virtual worlds too.  Linden Lab, the company behind the virtual world Second Life, launched its alternative platform Sansar into open beta on the 31 July 2017.  This iteration of a virtual world or should that be worlds is built for the VR era. VR as in affixing a headset to your face…  Supposedly the much vaunted Sansar takes a new approach to virtual worlds.

Whereas Second Life was built as one single world, Sansar’s architecture is more like a platform. On it, “creators” can host virtual worlds and experiences for others to visit.

The creations are not placed in one continuous virtual space; instead, they are individual experiences which can be accessed by browsing the Atlas. Each experience or virtual world in Sansar is also its own entry point into the platform.

Linden Lab’s business model for Sansar is to let people visit worlds on the platform for free, but charge creators who want to host more than three experiences (virtual worlds).  Creators too will have mechanisms available to “sell, rent, or charge for access” to earn from their creations. Though still in Beta, Linden Lab is already offering paid tiers for hosted experiences starting at $10/month for five hosted experiences.
That’s a significant shift from Second Life’s business model where users rent a virtual real estate in the virtual world, allowing them to build in that area of the map.

The main difference between the way Sansar will function versus how Second Life operates will be in how Sansar makes its money. In Second Life, the price of a sim tended to be far too pricey, running users more than $100 per month for a full-sized sim space, while sales on the Marketplace and in-world see very little tax. With Sansar, Linden Lab plans to flip this model – allowing users to acquire space at a more reasonable price and taking more of a cut for user sales.

In previous articles, Linden Lab CEO, Ebbe Altberg described Sansar as a bit like WordPress for virtual reality with the goal to make creation easy and for spaces to gain followings of their own. Platforms like Sansar are trending towards the future of VR – where virtual reality isn’t just for gameplay, but for social interaction and experiences. But… That must still be some way down the line.  Yes, I know it’s still in Beta, which means if you thought you would be getting the endless social VR experiences Linden Lab touted at the outset of the project you'd have to wait a little longer.

I have downloaded Sansar and have been in to see it for myself. It was an excruciating experience in frustration.  I checked that my computer could handle the download and that I had enough bandwidth, but wow, what a total pain in the neck the process was.  But it took many; many goes before it worked.
Eventually, I managed to log in to one of the Sansar Studio experiences (in desktop mode.  I don’t own a headset,) but then what.  I’m not a gamer, so I didn’t instinctively know how to look around, walk around, etc.  Thankfully there was someone there who helped me find my feet.

So for those of you going in to explore Sansar, I’ve included the control instructions (desktop mode) from their help page.  Good luck and have fun.

HOW DO YOU PROTECT YOURSELF FROM GRIEFERS? – Camury Reporting

All residents, upon registering for second life, agree to abide by the rules in the Terms Of Service (TOS) and the Community Standards (CS). But it is very common for people not to know or not to remember these rules.
Terms of Service – TOS
Community Standards – CS:

Abuse occurs whenever one of these rules is intentionally or maliciously disrespected, but not all residents know the abuse reporting system or remember to use it when encountering players who are intentionally rude, so-called Griefers.

The best way to prevent harassment or abuse is to use your settings, to control the environment, and who can interact with you. For example, if you are being pushed or moved by scripts, right-click an object and select Sit Here. This prevents you from being moved. If a friendship has soured, block the person and remove them from your friends list. This will also remove all the permissions you've given to the person.

In Sl, I talked to some people about how they protect themselves from Griefers. Let's take a look at the answers.
Miss  Haneruno  Resident
Camury: Miss Haneruno, have you ever suffered any kind of harassment or abuse in SL?
Haneruno: "Yes I have suffered many attacks in SL. This is very common for those who, like me, use sandboxes. "
Camury: How do you protect yourself from Griefers?
Haneruno: "I know that there is a system of complaints in SL, but when I suffer attacks I get a little annoyed and simply turn off the computer. I do not have the patience to make the complaint. "
Mr Rayc0 Resident
Camury: Mr. Rayc0, have you ever suffered any kind of harassment or abuse in SL?
Rayc0: "Yes, I was in a Protected Land, waiting for my inventory to load, when an avatar started to shoot me."
Camury: How did you do to protect yourself?
Rayc0: "I got angry and teleported myself to another place.
Camury: Do you know the SL complaint system?
Rayc0: "I read something about reporting abuse but actually I never bothered about it. I've never tried to know how to make complaints ... "

Mrs. Brendajac Melborne
Camury: Mrs. Brendajac, have you ever suffered any kind of harassment or abuse in SL?
Brendajac: "Yes, I was visiting the Amazon River Land with a friend when we were attacked by Griefers."
Camury: How was the attack?
Brendajac: "They put us in a kind of cage, where the avatar cannot escape. Even if you leave the game and return to the game, your avatar will be trapped in that cage.
Camury: Did you report the attack?
Brendajac: "Yes, my friend, who is an experienced player, was able to resolve the situation and took all steps to register the attack and report the abuse to Linden Lab. Those Griefers were banned from SL."
Miss Prya Resident
Camury:  Miss Prya, have you ever suffered any kind of harassment or abuse in SL?
Prya: "Yes I was on a land when my avatar was pushed several times and I could not control the situation.
Camury: Did you report the attack?
Prya: "I did not really worry about that, all I did was teleport me to another land."

Miss AnyaMel
Camury: Miss Anyamel, have you ever suffered any kind of harassment or abuse in SL?
Anyamel: "Yes I was at an SL event when I received a suspicious object. All they wanted was to take my lindens. "
Camury: How can you verify that the object was suspicious?
Anyamel: "I opened the profile of the object and saw that the information was incomplete. The creator of the object did not have satisfactory information in his profile and by clicking on the object I received a message asking permission to remove my lindens."
Camury: Did you report the abuse?
Anyamel: "Yes, I captured all the screens and sent everything using LL's complaint system." I'm still waiting for the result of the complaint. "

Send complaints about any abuse you witness, other than those you personally encounter. Complaints from several people highlight the seriousness of an incident and help resolve the cases more quickly. Learn how to report by clicking here:
