Beach Time!

Cooling off has never been so much fun.  So much of the world is broiling this summer with record high temperatures.  Linda's solution? Go to the beach and cool off on the water slide, dance to the great music, lounge on a raft gently moving in the ocean spray, have a beer or 2!  As you cuddle, sit and relax feel the heat waves wash away.

For those of you going through one of the coldest winters, the heat of the sand and sun will warm you and carry you through these cold months.

Come visit and enjoy now!

IN MUSIC- Quinton's journey through Music- Sandy Demina Reporting...

Quinton Whitman's (Tallan White / Tim White in RL) has an unique style that has been shaped by a myriad of influences. From the traditional Appalachian mountain music and storytelling of his grandparents and artist such as Woddy Guthrie; to the bluegrass and country music that surrounded him growing up by those such as Doc Watson and Johnny Cash; to the folk and political songs of singer/songwriters like Muddy Waters, Pete Seager, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, David Bromberg and Crosby, Stills & Nash that inspired him in his teens; to the intricate, haunting picking styles of an assortment of artists.

Throw in 4 years performing country with the Flaherty Brothers Band, a 12 year jaunt with the jazz/fusion band Still Portrait, then 5 years with the rock band The Ride, and you begin to understand the depth that is evident in his singing, playing and writing.

Every year The Compassionate Coalition Hosts the Miss Tropic Hawaiian Pageant on the Island Sim of Oahu. This year’s fabulous event took place on Saturday June 19, 2010. Hosted by Twstd Ruggles and this year’s co host and Musician LANCE Rembrandt who performed for the first hour as the audience arrived and took their seats.
All 5 judges including myself got comfortable in our assigned seats as we preparing ourselves for the event.. All 18 contestants had to choose 3 styles to present. First were formal gowns.
These beautiful ladies had lots of style class and grace as they carried themselves down the runway taking a spin at the end and walking to their places on the stage. From the first round, already being a judge for this event was becoming a challenge. After tallying up our votes for the first round. The top 10 moved on to the next round....

For Round 2 the ladies wore their swimsuits and Swags. For the men in the audience I’m sure this was the highlight of the evening. There were some pretty hot swim wear going on. I think I may want to put in a suggestion for a Mr. Tropic Hawaiian. I would not mind being the judge for the guys. In fact, I would be right at the end of the run way waiting with the baby oil believe me on that.

Anyways before I get carried away in a day dream, the 3rd round of the pageant was the cake topper. Judges were given the opportunity to question these ladies. We each got to ask 2-3 each and casted our final votes based on their answers.
The moment of truth finally arrived as the finalist all held hands in anticipation of the Winner announcement. There was a brief silence in the air as the 3rd and 2nd place contestants were called.
Then Aubrey Maskelyne’s Name was announced as the Winner of Miss Tropic Hawaiian 2010!
Between the Wooohooooo, applauds and congratulations, Aubrey accepted her Title, crown and roses gracefully.

After the event I caught up with newly crowned Aubrey Maskelyne who met with me at the Media Center for an interview.

Fashion with Compassion

For most of us, fashion offers us a chance for self expression-and a little fun. Clothes reflect our mood, attitude to life and how we want to be perceived by others and there’s no greater thrill than a lengthy shopping spree to lift the spirits and make the day seem just that little bit brighter. Even in Second Life, ask any woman how she likes to spend her free time and well earned Linden Dollars and chances are, her answer will be a full on assault of the grids finest boutiques. But for one woman, Second Life fashion provides more than a fun diversion; for her it is a vehicle of positive change and a tool to highlight awareness of some very real life issues that can affect any of us at any time in our lives.

Keira Seerose is a self confessed fashion lover, but a debilitating health problem means that in real life, she doesn’t get many opportunities to indulge in her passion. Keira suffers from acute social anxiety disorder, a condition which leaves people anxious in social situations and can strike without warning in either childhood or as an adult. While most people in her situation would hide away, Kiera decided to use the fashion world of Second Life as a platform to highlight mental and emotional illness-a subject that even now, can be taboo despite an estimated 450 million people suffering from some form of mental health issue worldwide. Moved by these statistics, Keira decided to launch ‘The Black and Blue Fair’ a fashion event organised in partnership with some of the grids top designers to help raise awareness-not funds-and to encourage SL residents to think about mental health issues in a new light.
