SPOTLIGHT FEATURE: Seven Ravenhurst - Artist, Creator, Dreamer. Mack Abbot reporting

Not everyone has an artistic bone in their body, or the patience to pull prims hither and thither, but Seven Ravenhurst is different.  She creates landscapes and experiences in Second Life for the world to see.  Here, she discusses her work and her inspriations.

-------

Mack:  You started building on There.com and Sansar a few years ago, what made you transition to SL?

Seven:  there.com was closing so me and about 8 friends we came over to SL, checked it out and loved the idea

Mack: And how easy did you pick up building in SL?

Seven:  Oh, within days, small stuff at first,  then castles and  taught my self how to terraform on here; slowly buying landscaped items setting up small parcels, decorated for friends weddings little events that kind of thing.   Then moved on to carnivals, circuses, concerts.  A few friends wanted to check out Sansar so i did for short time, built few experiences got bored came back to SL. and I've been here ever since

Mack:  So where do you get your inspiration from to build, say , a castle or a landscape a sim?

Seven:  I have many ideas places. A lot from books movies or the back of my mind.  Sometimes a photograph that inspires me. The latest sim was based on real island where they did horrid experiments on Monkeys.  So for summer, I built Monkey Island; Lots of monkeys & a pirate ship with pirates had Madpea Tropical Tempations Hunt there for the duration.   Was a lot of fun.  MadPea posted it on their Facebook page.  It was a homestead sized sim,

Mack: Excellent, did you get any commissions out of that to build for others?

Seven:  Some tips from visitors, mostly I build for the enjoyment of others the SL residents. I have had clients pay me for there private homes parcels events.  SL is my virtual canvas.

Mack:  Have you ever suffered the builders blind spot as I like to call it where you spend hours so focussed on building and tweaking that, when youve finished, you think "there's something not quite right about this"?

Seven:   Oh yes then I rip it all apart and start over. I did that with Monkey Island; spent week building terraforming only to change every bit.  End result I was happy with, just wish I had video taped a tour of it.  A few yrs back I built sim I called Avatar Way of Water based on the Avatar movie.

Mack:  Whats been your proudest creation so far, your Showstopper if you will?

Seven:  My favourite has been Monkey Island or one my old ones, Winter Fantasy years ago.  There are photos from it on Flickr.  It was Bellisaria Passport location, had a winter castle, Santa workshop and a  frozen lake surrounding the main section with 2 giants guarding the entrance.

Mack:  You're an artist and writer in real life, how does your art translate to SL or vice versa?

Seven: I loved fantasy art and landscapes in real life.  I've painted murals , on canvases. small perfume bottles what ever inspires me to keep painting.  Trees, beach scenes, dark fantasy and more.   So SL lets me bring a third dimension into my Art with 360 degree views, where many people can be inspired themselves.  I've taught Art in RL to children and adults.  Art is a great way for people to express sadness, grief, heal to grow, to be at Peace and certainly a great happiness.

Mack:  And on that beautiful mantra, I'll say thank you for your time.

Seven: Thank you also, it was a pleasure.
