Plato's Academy features discussions of philosophical Subjects for Second Life Residents Ramon Federal Reporting...

Plato’s Academy provides a “down-to-earth” venue for the consideration of serious issues
Plato Greybeard and Violette McMinnar have created a site and a group called Plato’s Academy that provide Second Life residents with an unequaled opportunity for down-to-earth discussion of important philosophical subjects. You can find it at:

The group meets every other Sunday at 8 am SLT. The next meeting of the group will be on Sunday, May 29, 2011. The question to be discussed at that time will be “Equality: Fact or Fiction?”
The idea for the site and group came from Plato Greybeard, who joined Second Life about two-and-a-half years ago and decided that he wanted to create a place for the serious consideration of important issues from a philosophical perspective.
He told the SL Enquirer in an interview at his site that he was lucky to find Violette McMinnar, who was “totally important” in building the sim that houses the group and in doing the important and time-consuming administrative work that is essential to the smooth operation of the discussion group on an on-going basis.
Violette added that she is motivated to support the group because she “likes to hear others’ views.”
Previously-featured discussion topics have included “Mechanisms of Offensiveness,” “Limits of Free Will,” and “What is Truth?”

Ivy Maverick’s SL career making and selling avatar shapes and skins through Maverick Avatar Designs (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Maverick%20Design/120/78/22) evolved naturally from her RL profession doing makeovers with hair and make up.
“When I came to SL it was just natural for me to help people to look better….I was helping people and one of my friends, Guardian Holden, built me a store and encouraged me to make it a business.”
Now, at last count, that business is in 563 people’s Picks and can boast a group membership of 5600.

Ivy sat down on Friday, July 2nd, with SL Enquirer to talk about avatar design and trends and about the up-coming launch of Maverick Avatar Design’s new “Luxeskins” line of skins. Priced at 1995 lindens, these new skins will be offered in tone versions such as “Copper,” “Pale,” “Tan,” and a couple of others. Each tone will be featured in a pack of 12 new skins with different make-up and facial configurations, with each new type coming in “cleavage” and “no cleavage” options, for a total of 24 varieties in each pack.

Also included in each pack will be a classic Maverick Design shape. Hair will not be included, although Ivy hopes to offer that eventually.

In the Spotlight: Model/Host-Manager Jovial Jewell talks about her modeling work and being a Host-Manager at Bella Vida Velvet Jazz Lounge

Today’s SL Enquirer Spotlight falls on nearly-three year old avatar Jovial Jewell, who spoke this afternoon/evening with SLE staff reporter Ramon Federal about her two SL careers, one as a high-fashion model and one as Host-Manager of Bella Vida Velvet Jazz Lounge.

Jovial, who sat for her interview in a flowing white dress, was trained by Ewing Modeling School, where she “learned…about styling my outfits and how to walk the runway,” and has also been an instructor there. “I have been in many shows for designers like Chez Gabrielle and Fierce Designs. Also Hotlala Designs.”

Being a model in Second Life is very satisfying for Jovial. Asked what she likes best about the work, she said, “I love the fashion industry, love the fashion industry. I've always wanted to be a model in RL, so this lets me live that out a bit.” She also mentioned that she usually gets to keep the clothes she models, no small perk when working for the designers she has.
