May 15th - Neon Fiction DEBUTS LIVE at Terry's In The Park!

Join us on Saturday, May 15th beginning at 2pm SLT for a special LIVE debut performance from Neon Fiction, a group of 5 friends based in South Wales, UK. They came together through friendship and a mutual love of music.

The idea of the band was thought of after 3 of the band members went to see a concert of The Midnight (American Synthwave band) in Bristol. They felt inspired to create their own sound. They all bring together their individual influences and styles to make what is Neon Fiction's own sound. Bands such as , The Midnight, Bon Iver, Vulfpeck, Jacob Collier, M83, Manchester Orchestra, Volcano Choir, Nothing But Thieves to name but a few are big influences in the style of Neon Fiction.  They came together to create music heavily influenced by Synthwave and indie folktronica music.

Neon Fiction would consider themselves a “virtual band”. They play online in Second Life® as well as streaming live video on platforms like Twitch, YouTube and Facebook.

Tally Mercury (vocalist) has been also been performing live as a solo artist in Second Life® for over 10 years, and has come to love the live music community there, as well as understands the potential for it as a platform for live music events for the band Neon Fiction.

The band released their first Single “Hold On”  in August 2020, and will be releasing another single in the Autumn, before releasing their first EP early in 2021.

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

May 16th - Gabriel Da Silva DEBUTS LIVE at Terry's Sunday Showcase

Join us on Sunday, May 16th beginning at 5pm SLT for Terry's Sunday Showcase, sponsored by the SL Enquirer! This week's featured artist is Gabriel Da Silva! Debuting at Terry's this week, Gabriel started in music in Porto, Portugal, born and raised of a family of musicians, learning and practicing passionately throughout his life, faithful to his unique style and his true love: Hard Rock.

The Gabriel da Silva project began in 2016 due to the demand from fans to hear more of his original music after hearing glimpses during his online cover gigs, and to date, the feedback on the originals has been overwhelming and ‘insane’.

Thus, everything has come into place. In recent months Gabriel de Silva has won 1st place in worldwide music competitions and has hooked up and signed with worldwide agency Metal Music Bookings and Management and has brought together a team of skilled, trustworthy musicians who also love music, to work with him in his newly formed power trio, both in the studio and live.

Within just weeks of forming the power-trio, Gabriel da Silva was invited on tour (and gladly accepted) to support the legendary Anvil, both in the UK and mainland Europe.

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

April 12th - Become a part of SL Entertainment History at Terry's!

Attention songwriters and live music fans! Join us on Monday, April 12th beginning at 5pm SLT for an exclusive evening at Terry's highlighting some of the hottest musicians and entertainment on the grid!

Starting things off at 5pm SLT, get ready to rock with a special LIVE performance from Seth Regan, also known as Mankind Tracer, as he returns to Terry's stage in celebration of Ninja and Christine's 8th Rez Day! For those of you who don't know, Ninja is the founder and co-owner of Terry's Place, as well as an avid supporter of live music within Second Life.  His close friendship with Christine spans over 20 years in real life and has even further been strengthened through the success of Terry's and their passion for everything related to music.

Seth Regan, a native New Yorker now residing in California, is a singer/songwriter who writes music that speaks to his audience through very relatable experiences and insights. His sound is one that combines classic and progressive rock influences with a modern pop/rock vibe.

After 20 years of professional touring with various cover and originals projects, Seth discovered Second Life in 2006. Second Life was a growing 3D Virtual Community where he began to perform shows regularly under the name "Mankind Tracer". Quickly becoming a fan favorite, Seth rose to being one of the top rock artists and maintains that status today, among the now hundreds of performers in SL. Many of the current millions of global members have become familiar with Seth's music and brand. He is without question Second Life's most widely recognized rock performer.

Seth's original song "Underground" was recently chosen for use in a new HBO show, "True Detective".

The fun continues at 6pm SLT with one of Terry's most beloved weekly DJ sets, Maniac Mondays with DJ Stroke! Put on your dancing shoes and bring your requests, as DJ Stroke takes you on a musical journey through his vast library of hits throughout the decades.

Last, but certainly not least, at 8pm SLT, strap on your seat belts and get ready for your chance to "Hear What You've Been Missing" LIVE with the newest addition to the Terry's family, DJ Matrix!  Originals and covers like you've never heard them before...plus learn more about some of your favorite SL performers!  Over 15 well known SL musicians have participated in the creation of this event, including AcousticEnergy Nitely, Amberle Janniah, Skye Galaxy, Holly Giles, Winter, Semina, Tally Mercury, Shamrock Defibrillator, and many more!

Known as Chuck Clip in some circles, he is not only an artist and the owner of 2 sims devoted to the visual, spoken and musical arts--Sinful Retreat, where the Janus Galleries live and Angels Rest which is a new sim devoted to music--but he also goes by DJ Matrix and does DJ shows around the grid.

Chuck's idea was to build a series of DJ shows around the Second Life live performers that we all enjoy.  The thought was that there is a potential audience out there for our SL Live singers that is somewhat untapped.  The thought was that if people that went to DJ shows heard how good live singers were in SL we could help build their audience. At each show is details on where to find the performer's music (websites, etc) how to book them, etc.  Additionally DJ Matrix talks about the performers during his shows.

Become a part of SL entertainment history with friends, live music, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

Terry's Bloch Party March 20th

Join us on Saturday, March 20th beginning at 12-noon SLT for the first EVER Terry's Bloch Party! Four fun-filled hours of live music from some of the hottest entertainers on the grid!

Starting it all off at 12pm SLT is a special LIVE debut performance from Shagpile Spyker, AKA Jason Vare, an independent singer-songwriter from Bedlington, a small town north of Newcastle in Northumberland UK. He was particularly influenced by artists such as Bob Dylan; The Beatles; Neil Young and many more. In more recent times Shaggy has been drawn to the sound of Joe Purdy, Ray Lamontagne, James Morrison, Paulo Nutini, and upcoming artists like Paul Liddell.

As a songwriter, Shaggy draws inspiration from the trials of life, and from the lives of those around him. These inspirations translate into music that is smooth and sincere. He has a creativity that detours from the ordinary!! Lyrically this music takes you to wherever you want to be and is full of emotion.

Following Shaggy at 1pm SLT, Terry's is proud to welcome spiritLed back for a special LIVE performance on our outdoor stage! spiritLed is not new to SL but relatively new to performing live music around the grid. Coming to you from the East Coast, spiritLed has been playing the guitar since his 20's and is now learning and enjoying playing the keyboard.

You will immediately fall in love with spiritLed's covers of songs from artists like Coldplay, Harry Styles, Train, The Beatles, and more. Join us and hear why he is beloved by fellow musicians around the grid.

Next up at 2pm SLT, get ready for another magnificent performance from Skye Galaxy!  Taking a variety of different songs and artists, Skye translates each tune and places them gently beside a soothing, sensual line of vocal and simplistic piano arrangements. Nineteen years ago, he was brought into this world by his mother, whom resided in Smolensk (Смоленск), Russia and a father who moved to the States from Berlin. From the first moments of which he could mutter a sound, singing had become nothing short of a passion.

His influences include the vocals and production talents of Imogen Heap, the emotion often found in the likes of Coldplay, Keane, and Death Cab for Cutie, and in the other artists that continue to fill his favorites list; Above & Beyond, Frou Frou, Rufus Wainwright, Kate Havnevik, Yann Tiersen, and many more.

Skye is a musician, performer, and vocalist professionally in his first life, but likes to keep his two lives well apart. He joined Second Life in order to pursue the feeling of growth in his abilities, once more, and those numerous chains of events leading to one better opportunity to the next until you are stumbling for the top.

Last but certainly not At least, at 3pm SLT Terry's is proud to welcome back THE FUNKALICIOUS ONE, Dexter Moore, as he performs LIVE on our outdoor stage!! He is a Troubadour kind of guy who plays nylon string acoustic guitar like no-one else.

Dexter weaves romantic lyrics and melodies around his guitar grooves with a cool mix of soul, funk, Latin and jazz.

March 17th - Shamrock Defibrillator & Erika Ordinary DEBUT LIVE at Terry's St Patrick's Day Party

Feeling a bit down on your luck lately? Celebrate St Patrick's Day this Wednesday, March 17 starting at 6PM SLT with a special live music double feature, as Terry's is proud to welcome Shamrock Defibrillator and Erika Ordinary for what's sure to be a spectacular debut performance!

Kicking things off at 6pm SLT will be Shamrock Defibrillator, an exciting recent addition to the Second Life entertainment scene, playing original music in a virtual world.  Imagine Bill Withers heading over to Abbey Road in a Cadillac to pick up Ben Harper so they can catch the tail end of THE Reverend Al Green's sermon...this fantastic performer is definitely not your ordinary Shamrock!

Next up at 7pm SLT, you won't want to miss the lovely and talented Erika Ordinary, as she performs her debut on the Terry's stage! Erika is an Austin, Texas based singer-songwriter who performs originals and a wide range of covers by artists such as: Nina Simone, Peggy Lee, Leadbelly, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Patty Griffin (another Austinite!) Brandi Carlisle, Jolie Holland, Jefferson Airplane, David Bowie, The Flaming Lips, Porno for Pyros, Pixies, Radiohead, Regina Spektor, Feist, Florence and the Machine, Lisa Loeb, Ingrid Michaelson, and more!

Erika has a wonderfully expressive voice that can be powerful but also is pleasantly delicate and understated. She brings life to the songs she selects and a window to her soul in songs of her own. She plays several instruments, but primarily sticks with guitar and ukulele. She especially loves the juxtaposition of darker themed songs played on such a bright, happy instrument as the ukulele. Ask her to play In The Pines by Leadbelly or Henry Lee by Nick Cave, and you'll get the idea.

Terry's Sunday Showcase - Lyric Serendipity & Suzen Juel DEBUT

Join us on Sunday, February 28th beginning at 3pm SLT for Terry's Sunday Showcase, sponsored by the SL Enquirer! Performing her debut this week is Lyric Serendipity...Lyric taught herself to play guitar, keyboard, and accordion by ear at a young age. She was the girl walking around town with her guitar on her back. All signs pointed to her becoming a full-time musician. But life leads her down a different path and that took her focus off the music. She tried going back to it at different times, but she came to realize she had developed a severe case of stage fright and she didn't sing at all for several years.

When she found Second Life, she found her voice again.

Lyric describes herself as a "mumbling, giggling, by-the-seat-of-my-pants" performer. Her sets are truly a 'stream of consciousness' experience. She sings the songs you forgot you loved. Her sets are heavy on the classic 60s - 90s rock, but she has an expansive song list with an eclectic mix from a variety of artists -  Fleetwood Mac, Pat Benatar, The Foo Fighters, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jefferson Airplane, Imelda May, The Goo Goo Dolls, The Eagles, Amy Winehouse, Bruno Mars, Aerosmith, Sheryl Crow, Dire Straits, The Doors, The Cars, Elle King, The Who, The Pretenders, The Allman Bros, Linda Ronstadt, Heart, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Cyndi Lauper, The Beatles, The Black Crowes, David Bowie, Natalie Merchant, Neil Young, The Black Keys, Led Zeppelin ....and many more.

She encourages audience participation and sometimes has her bandmates, The Explicit, on stage with her. Her SL musician friends have been known to drop in and jump up on stage to play along with her as well. Join her on a journey through the decades, singing the songs that is the soundtrack of our lives, Lyric brings the memories of the years of teen angst, new loves, raw sex, painful breakups, fun days and wild nights of our youth rushing back.
She invites you along for the ride!

Also debuting this week at 4pm SLT is the lovely and talented Suzen Juel, who has entwined and weaved herself into that Tapestry of Talent in Second Life so many Writers and Performers are proud to be a part of.

Suzen Juel Resistance joined SL Community for the 2nd time in April 2005.. to begin performing,(2005 as JueL Resistance) she was one of the first female musicians of a  small handful of musicians back then who has flourished with her songwriting over the next year to become known for her Acoustic Soul and Blues sound.

Since then she has joined talents with other Musicians such as Ricardo Sprocket, RoseDrop Rust and Cylindrian, as well as a small handful of great talents outside SL, and across the globe of collaborations.... with Boris Van Luger and Nestor Sanchis.....

Juel has been interviewed for various Magazines: Rolling Stone, Wired and is being Broadcast on the Infinite Mind Radio where she also sells her two songs "INTRUSIVE and GIVE ME MERCY"..as well as Indie Spectrum Radio in SL and Radio Paradise.com an Internationally known progressive radio station on the Net!

JueL is also a painter, an artist as well as a photographer. You can see her works at House of Flames where her shop and Venue LIVING ROOM #13 are currently displaying her works.  JueL Is well known in the  Second Life community as a singer-songwrite who does a deep emotional ride of Blues as well as Americana, Folk and Roots. She was one of the first female musicians in Second life and the first to go down the road of Blues...she brings with her years of talent, experiences and emotions that embed themselves deep into her songs.

Ghostie Wildmist Interview- Healing through Music- Orion Baral Reporting...

Music has a healing power that often goes unrecognized. Did you know it helps reduce your heart rate, lowers blood pressure, and can boost your mood? Various genres are remedies to different kinds of mental feelings and ailments including help with sleep, anxiety, and depression. Singers and musicians are responsible for creating the energy that is absorbed by their audiences. Ghostie is one of those singers that calms a crowd and gives them a sense of relaxation. You can tell by her stage presence that she is a gentle soul and friendly with anybody she meets. I have personally gotten to form a good friendship with Ghostie after meeting her at Terry’s Open Mic Night. She is very witty and truly a great person.

Orion  Baral (OB): Ghostie, thank you for finally sitting down with me, it was like pulling teeth getting you here, almost like someone telling you not to do it, so silly. So you have been in SL for a decade now. How did you discover Second Life and get involved in the music scene?

Ghostie Wildmist: I actually discovered Second Life through a friend who pulled me into DJ here. I did that for a few months. I remember being bored one night and stumbled upon the ~O~ Lounge, a karaoke spot, and met Canipanic there. If you had told me then that the visit would have led me to the stage I would not have believed you. But it is because of the ~O~ Lounge that I truly discovered the Live music scene and led to my first live gig at Kickin.

OB: So you started as a DJ that is pretty interesting. I would have never thought of you as a DJ before. While you spent time Djing, tell me what was your impression of this virtual world?

Ghostie Wildmist: At first...OVERWHELMED. Second Life can be very intimidating at first when you’re new, especially when you don’t know anyone. I can be on the shy side when it comes to meeting new people so I found that challenging.

OB: You shy? Oh come on now, I have gotten to know you very well over the last few months shy, I wouldn’t say that. Maybe reserved a bit, but I digress. So tell me how would you define music and what it means to you?

Ghostie Wildmist: Music to me is pure expression. As someone who can find it rather difficult to express themselves sometimes, I take a HUGE amount of comfort in music to help me do so. Happiness, love, anger, grief, anything can be expressed. Music has pulled me through a lot in my life ever since I was a child.

OB: I love that you have your own original thoughts on what it means to you. You defined it beautifully. Can you tell me which qualities do you think to make a great singer/musician?

Ghostie Wildmist: That is such an easy answer for me. It is PERSONALITY. Whether someone is singing or writing the music the personality comes through. I would absolutely rather listen to a performer with a great personality and presence than a performer who is technically flawless or has more experience if they have no feeling or "give" to their audience.  ANYONE can sing, not everyone can make their audience smile, and laugh and feel like they are as much as the performance as the music is.

OB: Well not everyone can sing, trust me, the water in the shower runs away when I personally try. And well you do have a personality I will say that. So tell me how would you describe your style and genre?

Ghostie Wildmist: Oh I am absolutely an 80's and classic rock nut without a doubt. Truth is even now I rarely turn on the radio to a station that plays anything else. As a performer, I believe you should sing what you love and if you do that the crowd will love it too.. again it goes back to the personality and feeling. As for my "style", I guess I would just have to say that I am just a fan, go with the flow of the audience kind of performer. You can plan a set all you'd like, but if the crowd isn't feeling it, you have to be able to adjust to it. I am VERY interactive with my audience as I am so thankful to have them there. There are so many amazing performers in SL and I feel so lucky that anyone comes to see me, so their feedback is vital. Their time is precious so I am absolutely one of those performers who put fun first. I am not and never will be a "technically" perfect singer. I have to remind myself to breathe sometimes. But what I lack in technical skill, I more than makeup for with making the crowd happy.

OB: So admitting you are a classic rock nut, would you say that it is your favorite music genre and songs to sing? Or do you expand and go into other genres to challenge yourself?

Ghostie Wildmist: Again, classic rock is my soul. My favorite artist of all time easily is Billy Joel. I never have a set where I do not sing 1 or 2 of his songs. It's kind of a thing now where the crowd requests their "BJ's" now, and that always makes me laugh. "It's still rock and roll", "You may be right" are probably my two favorite songs to perform by him. I also love performing Creedence and The Doors.

OB: So me being the professional that I am, I will not comment on your crowds asking for the “BJs”, but hey, we don’t judge here at SLE. So as long as it is consensual, you do you. Singing covers are always great, but have you ever gotten into writing your own music?

Ghostie Wildmist: I have written lyrics to songs before but never tried to bring them off the paper, they have always been something I have kept to myself. It is something I tend to do to help express some things that need to be let out, very personal. I keep those tucked away in a binder.

OB: Well maybe one day you will find the strength to let some of us in and hear some of your original songs. Can you tell me, what do you find about performing in Second Life fulfilling?

Ghostie Wildmist: As a performer, the most fulfilling part of being on stage is the interaction I get from the audience. Again I can tend to be very inward, very shy. When I get on stage that seems to fade away. And when something I say makes someone laugh, or something I sing touches someone how can that not fulfill me. I don’t care if I have 4 people in the crowd or 30... I give my heart and soul to every performance. It isn’t about the numbers, it is about the experience and attention that is given to the venue's crowd. For a venue to bring me in, and trust me to entertain their crowd for an hour is a true honor and privilege.

OB: I have to say, I respect your answer about mentioning the venue trusting you to entertain the crowds. A lot of musicians over the years I have heard saying that the audience only comes to hear them and they deserve it. So kudos for that I rather like that response. Which musicians in SL or RL inspire you?

Ghostie Wildmist: Starting with RL, I will say absolutely Billy Joel, Elton John, Creedence, and The Doors, they top my list. In SL, well there are so many performers that have inspired me. My first WOW moment in SL was when I went to my first live show, which happened to be Wolfie Moonshadow. He blew me away and still continues to do so even to this day. Wolfie has always been someone I have looked up to both on the stage and off, he has been both a mentor and a very close friend. Krisie Snowdrop, I find to be just a ray of sunshine, what I admire about her shows is she is so similar to me in the sense that she shows such attention to her crowd. You could be having a horrible day and go to one of her shows and walk out feeling like you are bouncing on a cloud. Mishkania (Mish), is very new to the stage, but her drive, feeling, and her presence, and the power that she puts into her performance amaze me.

OB: It is great to have friends that help you in your careers here in SL. Saying that, is there any performer in SL that you would love to do a dual-stream with and why?

Ghostie Wildmist: Oh easily Krisie Snowdrop or Mish.  Krisie because our personalities and style match so well and I think that would be an amazing experience for the audience. Mish, well she challenges me to drop my shyness and reminds me that is ok not to be perfect. I can see both of us really have some fun.

OB: So enough about your singing life, what would you be doing right now if you weren’t an SL musical performer? What interests you in SL other than singing?

Ghostie Wildmist: Well right now I am planning my SL wedding, and to say that has me excited would be understating it!! Really when I am not on stage performing, I am actually quite low-key. I spend most of my time with my core group of friends singing at the ~o~ lounge, going to see other live performers, or having a few friends over to my place to sing and goof around. I host an Open Mic night on Fridays through a sponsorship with Moonlight Music over at Terry's, which has now become one of my favorite places to hang out, I was so lucky to find so many true friends there. So if I am not at home or staying up crazy late chatting with everyone at Terry's you will find me at a Krisie Snowdrop, Mish, Rocker, or other performances. I guess you can say I am a bit predictable.

OB: Well I am very happy for you, congrats on your upcoming wedding. Also nice to hear you go to see other performers to just enjoy the shows. So, when you choose a song to sing, what is the creative process you go through to make it your own?

Ghostie Wildmist: Oh this is a tough one to answer for me. I do not have a traditionally feminine voice. I am raspier and kind of low. So when I try to do a song I have to find the right key, and the right way to do the song justice without reaching too high. I am not a technically trained performer at all. So I try to stick to songs I can nail, or if I need to change a few ways certain notes are hit to flatter my performance I will. The biggest thing I focus on is sticking to songs that in some way I connect to because I feel like the audience can tell the difference between a song you are just singing to fill some time up and the songs that really speak to me on a personal level.

OB: Finding your own identity in a song is an important thing, but also it can be hard trying to find your place in the SL music scene with so many performers on the grid. What advice would you give new singers just starting out in Second Life?

Ghostie Wildmist: BE YOURSELF. I still find getting on stage very intimidating at times. ESPECIALLY when I am following one of the more well-known performers. But if you give your performance your heart, let the audience get to know you through your music and your personality then you are going to find your way. Don’t feel like you need to be perfect. Have fun with it, talk to your audience, and do not take it personally if you look out there and see only a few people listening to you. If you truly engage with them, the numbers will grow. Performing here in SL should be fun for you as the performer but also for the people who come and see you.

OB: That is great advice, you have to build yourself up and have confidence in yourself to achieve the goals you set in your life. So is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Ghostie Wildmist: I just want to thank them for taking the time to read this, and I hope to see a few new faces next time I am on stage. I just truly love what I do and am so thankful and humbled for everyone who does come to see me perform. I encourage people to get out there and see new performers and support the venues that do provide Live performers. And for those looking for a lot of fun on Fridays, come on down to Terry's for open mic at 8pm, it's not just for the performers, it is an amazingly fun few hours for everyone there.

Well, that is it, people, I hope you now have learned a bit about Ghostie Wildmist and if you haven’t heard her, check out her schedule, or catch her at Terry’s on Fridays for Open Mic. You will not be disappointed.

Ciao,

Orion
