How Did You Get Started in Second Life?- Coco Lierfatte Reporting...

Second Life truly is that, a second life where you can live out your wildest fantasies. Whether you are a football star or reliving your childhood,  it doesn't matter. You're playing SL for a reason even if you might not always be interested in sharing.

I got to sit down with someone who told me exactly how she got started in SL, and what she likes to do.

C.L. - Everyone starts SL in a different way, a family member or friend. Even an ad on the Internet, but it's always something that makes you start. How did you get started in SL?

B.C. - A long-time online friend and I had wandered thru many virtual worlds together - Ultima, Everquest, SWG and WoW among others.  He read about SL, tried it, convinced me to visit to check it out and I have been here since that first visit.

C.L. - Age may just be a number but in SL you have a birthday just like in real life. This age defines how long you've been playing. How long have you been playing SL?

B.C. -  I first came to SL in 2006.

C.L. - Hobbies are very important to have in SL, you need to find something that suits you. What are some of your hobbies in SL?

B.C. - I discovered, the hard way, that I do not have any talent for building or creating in-world things from scratch.  But I enjoy roaming the land, finding unusual and well done things to use in landscaping and decorating to get the particular "feel" that I am after for an area.   To relax in SL, I enjoy breeding Papillon butterflies - I love the challenge, complexity and their unusual beauty.

C.L. - When it comes down to it having fun in SL is what it's all about. What types of things do you like to do in SL?

B.C. -  The people and places in SL change over time and that is both good and bad.  You can lose friends, your favorite blues bar and the store where you bought your first fancy clothes.  But I enjoy meeting and interacting with other people from all over the world, finding a new blues bar or that previously unknown store with just the outfit I am looking for.

C.L. - Everyone has a favorite thing they love about SL, but not everyone has the same favorite thing. What is some of your favorite things about SL?

B.C. - I think the single thing about SL that heads the list of everything that keeps me here is the overall structure that allows for the opportunities, relationships, activities, creativity and visual aspects of the various alternate lifestyle that are represented in SL.  For those that can build, it offers a chance to expand their creative talents to make remarkable items and locations for themselves or others.  For those that don't build, it gives you tools to enjoy relationships and experiences in a unique way.   You are never too young, or too old, to learn, teach, explore and socialize.  SL encourages and allows all of that.

People start SL many different ways, some people don't understand how certain people get involved in SL. It's like what's said above, SL is a place you can learn new talents and improve upon old ones. You can live out your wildest fantasies, or you can be here for friends and business (Or be like a lot of people and do a little of everything). People need to have the motivation though to start a business or live out their fantasies.
