Many have probably visited one or several American landmarks in Real
Life so it is important for second Life creators to not only get these
locations authentically replicating the Real Life one but to also incorporate
entertainment to keep people coming back.
I have found 5 landmarks which not only keep
you entertained while on the sim but also resemble the Real Life landmarks in
the US.
Grand
Canyon
Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the
Colorado River which can be located in the state of Arizona. Just like the Real
Life Grand Canyon you can take a tour ride around the canyon which will enable
you to see it in its complete surroundings. The tour also
allows you to hop off the balloon ride and explore by yourself. For those who
enjoy a bit of a challenge and fun there are dirt bikes and a quad which
enables you to explore the rugged areas of the canyon which is fun.
It is part of
several sims and the owner and designer has managed to capture the essence of
the Real Life Grand Canyon as best as they can in Second Life.
The
Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty Located
in New York Harbour and was a gift of international friendship from the people
of France to the people of the United States. In Second Life the statue was constructed for
the Americana exhibition 2005. It looks the same as the one in Real Life and
has been constructed so as it is the only thing you see when you arrive on the
spot where it is located. Of course it is a smaller version than the real one.
However, un like the Real Life one you are unable to enter the statue but you
are able to fly around the statue like a superhero and get a closer look at its
exterior.
The White
House
The White House is the official residence and principal
workplace of the President of the United States, located at 1600 Pennsylvania
Avenue NW in Washington. In Second Life I could only find one location where
the White House has been replicated. You are able to walk inside and look
around where you will find I assume a copy of what it looks like in the Real
Life White House. Inside has been carefully decorated with antique furnishings
right down to the correct period each piece would have actually been placed in
the White House. I would recommend walking around and looking in every room. It
is an interesting tour.
Lincoln memorial
The Lincoln
memorial is a monument honouring the 16th President of the United
States; Abraham Lincoln. Its real location is in Washington DC. In Second Life, the monument can be found on the same sim
as the White House. Visit and and get a
closer look at it.
Old
New York
New York is the most populous city in the United
States and the centre of the New York Metropolitan Area, one of the most populous urban cities in the
US. I have chosen Old New York in Second Life due to its photographic
properties. We all know what Real Life New York looks like. If not, visit this
location for a sense of the energy.
If you are into photography, you will find the
Old New York in Second Life is a perfect spot to use as a setting for your
photo projects. Set on 2 sims, it has been created in a realistic style using
old buildings with graffiti on the walls; the true urban look. I would
recommend a walk around the sims as it may be a perfect place to take photos
and explore one of America’s most popular locations.

Grand Canyon is a must see wonder! It is my 3rd trip in bus to niagara falls canada from nyc to the Canyon. First we stayed in Flagstaff and took the bus tour. Second, we stayed in Williams and took the train and then boarded the tour bus. Third time, we stayed in Williams and drove the trip to the Canyon. It is a must see attraction for the whole family.
