GeekSpeak subject for Saturday 21st May at noon SLT: What if we could all understand each other?

Will we all speak just one language in the future?  Will that one language co-exist with thousands of local languages? Or will it be the only language we know?

Or will we understand each other because we have AI devices, either external or internal, that can translate anything?  Will that revolutionize the world?  Suddenly you can have a deep discussion about Shakespeare with your Iranian neighbour or watch a football game with your Norwegian friends.  People will even be able to invent their own languages.  Will this AI bring peace to the world or will it bring more problems?  What happens if the AI devices suddenly stop working?  Babel AI?

Come to GeekSpeak at noon SLT on Saturday to discuss the world of words.  Bring a dictionary and your friends!

GeekSpeak – Will all languages disappear? Join the discussion Saturday May 30th at 12pm SLT

There are about 7000 languages left on Earth and the number is declining quickly. Will there be only one language in the future?  Will the world be better off with just one because that will mean that we all understand each other better?  Or will we lose more than we gain, when so much poetry, so many jokes and so much of our culture has gone?
Will we need language at all in the future?  Do the Borg need language?
Which of the current languages will survive for 10 years?  Or 50 years?  Or 500?
When aliens land on Earth what language will we use to greet them?  Will it be a language that is not invented yet?  Maybe an artificial language?

Come and talk about it in GeekSpeak.  In English.  ðŸ˜Š Bring a friend.

Learn Spanish at the Instituto Espanol Hosted by Eugenia Calderon

Learn the Spanish language at Instituto Espanol. Our Spanish teachers have years of experience and our Spanish classes are inexpensive and tons of fun!

Don't speak Spanish? Don't worry! Maestra Calderon is a trained Spanish teacher. She knows to speak slowly and clearly. Our cultural lectures at the Institute are designed as listening exercises for the student. Plus, we'll save some time for questions and answers afterwords.
