In conversation with Mimi Juneau - Lacy Muircastle Reporting...

The name Mimi Juneau is synonymous with fashion in Second Life.  She has been a proud supporter of all things fashion related for close on ten years now.
I’ve interviewed Mimi several times during my time as an SL journalist, the last time being five years ago.

I thought it was high time to catch up with her again.

Much has changed in Second Life over those five years and the biggest of those changes being the introduction of mesh and the online Second Life Marketplace.  Whilst we all know that the only constant in life is change, not all change is positive or necessarily for the greater good.  But nevertheless, we relentlessly move forward.

I sat down with Mimi in her store, Mimi’s Choice, which is now on Redgrave’s Sim.  One of the most significant consequences of the changes in SL has been that she’s had to let go of her own sim.  Happily, though she’s back with her friends the Redgrave’s, which is where it all started for her back in 2007.

Mimi’s Choice turns ten later in the year, and Mimi is enjoying what she does more than ever.  She still says she’s just a poor reseller, but actually, she’s much more than that.  She’s an icon of fashion and a thoroughly lovely person to boot.   She continues to work as hard as she ever did, representing a number of high-end designers.

Sadly she’s had to reduce the size of the store but she is pragmatic about the situation and basically, has taken the stance of rolling with the punches.

Mimi will happily assist those that ask for her help.  For instance, my shoes and feet were mismatched to the mesh body that I was wearing and she kindly pointed out the error of my ways.  My problem is that I’ve never really taken to mesh as it’s all such a damn hassle.  You need a degree in order to make your avatar look even halfway decent and to be honest, I don’t have either the time or the inclination to learn all the ins and outs.  Nevertheless, I digress.  Mimi will go so far as being your personal shopper to help you navigate the plethora of stores out there.  For example, if you happen to be a male avatar and don’t know where to begin to look for decent hair, just ask Mimi, she knows all the good designers.

Mimi’s Choice has to compete with subscription boxes these days.  These subscription boxes contain items from a number of designers and are issued, in some cases. as regularly as monthly.  For example BishBox and Luxe Box.  These boxes have added a new dimension to the resale of Second Life fashion and interior décor, to the detriment of the likes of Mimi’s Choice and add pressure to the SL fashion designer’s bottom line.

If you’re looking for a proper old fashioned shopping experience then Mimi’s Choice is where to find it.  Half the fun in acquiring new clothes and accessories is looking at what’s available and comparing what’s out there.  At Mimi’s Choice, you can do that all under one roof where everything from, hair and shoes to the latest glam gown is waiting for you.

Mimi is still enjoying her Second Life journey even if it’s a bit of an uphill battle these days.

As for the future of Mimi's Choice, she said that she will continue to provide an environment where designers of Second Life can come together in one unique environment and exhibit their top items for the masses of SL to enjoy.

She concluded, “Times have changed and will continue to do so, but Mimi's Choice will continue as is for as long as possible.”

The SL Enquirer and our readers wish Mimi’s Choice a fantastic tenth anniversary later in the year and many more to come.

The luck of the Irish - Lacy Muircastle reporting ....

The Miss SL Organization run by Marcus Lefevre presented their Mr SL pageant finale yesterday -  24 October 2015.

Congratulations to MR. SL Ireland – saiansamuel who was crowned MR SL 2016.

1st runner up MR. SL Mexico
Khronoz Resident

2nd runner up  MR. SL  Japan
Paradox Messmer

The other two from the top five -

3rd runner up MR. SL  Portugal - Thi Shippe

4th runner up  MR. SL Venezuela - Aldenix1 Resident aka Daniel White

Marcus Lefevre

Djembe, Marcus Lefevre, Mimi Juneau and Venom Zanzibar, were the DJ, voice and chat hosts for the event.

What was supposed to be the most elegant, challenging event of the year for the men of style in SL, fell somewhat flat. It took six very long hours to get through the programme, with bouts of repetition and excruciatingly long breaks between categories when absolutely nothing happened.  Oh actually that is not entirely true, as we were treated to a musical interlude by Mankind Tracer aka Seth Regan during the tallying of results for the top five.

The show was touted as being and I quote "packed with lots to see."  Umm not so much. That was overselling what was to come, which was  each candidate presenting their National outfits, followed by presentations of “Victor”s Secret” and then the gentlemen donned their finest Formal Attire.  Finest being used somewhat liberally in this instance.  I'm all for personal interpretation and stuff, but sometimes it can just look downright weird (my opinion solely.)

The event was well supported by the fashionable crowd of SL, in fact the sim was packed to the rafters.  As we all know this causes its own set of problems and it contributed to the terrible delays between category presentations.  As usual with these types of events the jostling to be noticed was amusing, and of course there are always those who are pathetic because their chosen one does not get, well, chosen.

Cheers to MR. SL  Ireland – saiansamuel.

Power Dressing for Ladies in Second Life - Lacy Muircastle reporting

I was browsing through my flickr when up popped a picture posted by none other that the doyenne of fashion herself Mimi Juneau of Mimi's Choice.  The pic is of a stunning suit by Swaffette Firefly of SF Designs and is just one of her latest offerings.  This prompted me to write this piece on power dressing for the ladies of SL.

I mean really, how could I not, You all should know just how hot you too could look ....

Power dressing need not leave you looking like a 1980s throwback. There are plenty of ways to dress like a powerful sexy modern woman without having to resort to shoulder pads and ill-fitting suit sets. Power dressing is all about exuding confidence in the clothes you’re in, looking sexy at the same time.

Adding a blazer to your outfit is one of the easiest tips for modern power dressing. A well fitted blazer will instantly smarten up your outfit. For a corporate look team a tailored blazer with cigarette pants and patent pumps. Right now the trend is for matching suit sets which is lucky for us as it just screams power dressing. A classic tip for power dressing is to wear well fitting, tailored clothing.

You don’t have to stick to fitted, tailored clothes all the time. Another way to work some power dressing magic into your wardrobe is with luxurious textures. Textures like silk and cashmere are perfect for modern power dressing.

When you’re choosing jewellery for your outfit, keep it classy and elegant. You want pieces that are stylish but not too trend-based or overpowering. Keep jewellery simple and avoid anything too costume-y. Chunky man-style watches are a stylish option if you want a bolder piece of jewellery that is still fairly classic.

Black and grey colours are pretty standard for power dressing, but experiment with colour where you can. Right now we’re seeing a lot of designers embracing boldly coloured matching suit sets. If the occasion allows for it, try wearing a brightly coloured outfit. Red, yellow, orange, blue – take your pick! Alternatively, try adding some colour in the form of accessories like your shoes or a bag.  Either way, a strong dose of colour will give off powerful vibes.

Shoes can say a lot about a person. When it comes to power dressing, a pair of heels is an instant confidence booster. In most cases, you can’t go wrong with a basic black pair of pumps. Choose ones in a patent finish with a more pointed toe for a bit of extra oomph. If you’re in a more creative setting, experiment with different shoe styles that best fit your personality.

When it comes to modern power dressing, you’ve got to wear what you love.  Being confident in your looks is a major part of oozing confidence and power. It’s all about owning your outfit and your look.

Happy 6th Rezzday to Mimi Juneau of MIMI's CHOICE

Mimi! It’s your birthday, I nearly forgot,
Searched online, bought you squat.
Hope you don’t turn all bitter and mean,
Since you’ve never been the type to be a drama queen.

I nearly quit, writing this verse,
My mind is blank, it must be a curse.
Let me stop being poetic,
 before I start looking pathetic.
I will end this here,
but I have just one question for you if you care,
  Where's the party?
 I’ll surely be there!

Happy Birthday Mimi!

Spotlight on .... Mimi's Choice

Mimi’s Choice is an extremely well known fashion outlet in Second Life and Mimi Juneau herself is considered the Doyenne of SL fashion.

Mimi decided very early on in her SL that she wanted to be a reseller of some of the best brands that SL has to offer and I think that most of you would agree with me that she has achieved exactly that.

Mimi’s Choice has been on the grid for 6 years and is still going strong and in Second Life this is no mean feat, bearing in mind the fluidity of the commercial side of things and in fact of the community as a whole.
Mimi’s goal, in fact her passion, is to make sure that the avatars of SL, both male and female alike look gorgeous.
