Being a hipster in SL (Part One) Lacy Muircastle reporting ....

Hipsters are people who enjoy clothing, music, food and activities outside of the social mainstream. If you want to embrace a hipster lifestyle of independent music, vintage clothes, and artisanal coffee in Second Life read on.

For those of you who are not aware what hipsters are, they are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter.

Although "hipsterism" is really a state of mind, it is also often intertwined with distinct fashion sensibilities. Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often be seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses. Both hipster men and women sport similar androgynous hair styles that include combinations of messy shag cuts and asymmetric side-swept bangs. Such styles are usually too "edgy" for the culturally-sheltered mainstream consumer. The "effortless cool" urban bohemian look of a hipster is exemplified in Urban Outfitters and American Apparel ads which cater towards the hipster demographic.

A new kid on the fashion block - Lacy Muircastle reporting

It is always exciting to see a new designer arrive, it gives one hope that SL will in fact go on.

David Heather is said new kid on the fashion block, now to say that David Heather designs are unique would be a significant  understatement.

The synopsis of what David Heather offers is as follows:

David Heather offers you a wide range of elegant, creepy, and unique high fashion couture apparel, accessories and skins to set your avatar apart from the masses.

My comment would be that the clothes are not creepy per se but the sim definitely is!  And as long as you are into red, black and white, then all is good.

Over to you to make up your own minds

Dress Sense In Second Life

For part three of the Second Life Etiquette installments I am going to talk about dress sense within Second Life, including what to wear in different situations and what not to wear. Now some of you may not see this topic as an etiquette issue but this is my opinion on the subject so please do leave any comments and thoughts you may have.

Highlighting the scourge of abuse still endured by women all around the world

Please join us as we, women of all ages and socio-economic standards spotlight the designs of the “Anonymous Women’s Designers” of Second Life who have so kindly offered inventory for a runway show highlighting the cycles of abuse so many women endure in our world. We are women, standing up for women less fortunate than ourselves. We are women who have endured abuse at the hands of others and have found a means to break the cycle. We are women who just want to help, to highlight and showcase that we are aware of this abuse and we will find a voice to stop the abuse. Will you please join us to show you as well, want the atrocity to stop?
