GeekSpeak subject for Saturday 15th January at noon SLT: Are you enjoying Veganuary?

Veganuary – a month living as a vegan!  Many people are doing it.  Are you?  Or are you doing Dry January – a month without alcohol?  Or both?

Should we all learn how to live as vegans?  Is it immoral to live in any other way?  Or do we need to be vegans because of climate change and the increasing population?  Will meat be priced out of existence in the future?  Will anyone still eat animals 100 years from now?  Or are vegans just a moralistic pest?

Will science come to our rescue with lab-produced meat?  Or will we add things like seaweed or insects (not vegan) to our menu?  Or the McPlant?  Or will we live on pills produced by our personal AI?

Come and discuss the future of food this Saturday at noon SLT.  Bring a spoon!

Grand Opening of Vegan HQ November 1st at 12.30 pm SLT

We are proud to bring Vegan HQ to the growing vegan community of Second Life. Set in a relaxing countryside environment perfect to explore on your own or with friends, Vegan HQ welcomes anyone interested or curious about leading a more compassionate lifestyle, whether it is for ethical, environmental, or health reasons. We also provide a fun and friendly hangout place for existing vegans who would like to meet like-minded people.

As well as having a chilled vibe and a good selection of playable games which we will change on a regular basis, we will hold regular events so be sure to join our group “SL vegans” to be kept up to date and join in the conversations. Vegan HQ also aims to provide reliable information and promote the benefit of living vegan in an inclusive way sharing experiences and knowledge between newcomers and more experienced members of the community. We hold weekly informal meetings to discuss various topics ranging from the health benefits of delicious vegan food, animal rights, and how to best be a voice for them or review books and recently published articles. We speak English, Dutch French, and German.
Our grand opening will take place to coincide with World Vegan Day on the 1st of November from 12 noon with an excellent lineup:

GeekSpeak – Is the future vegetarian? Join the discussion Saturday May 23rd at 12pm SLT

In time will we all become vegetarian?  Or vegan?

What are the advantages of being a vegetarian?  It might be the best way to fight global warming.  Less animal protein is good for our health.  We could put an end to the cruelty involved in farming animals.

On the other hand, being vegan might be unhealthy.  And most people really enjoy eating meat. 90% of Indians are vegetarian.  Could Westerners live that way?  How would we start?  By eating eggs, cheese, fish but not meat?  Could we eat insects?  Or shellfish?  Or meat grown from animal cells in vats?

If we must eat veggies only should we bring back all the old forgotten plants we used to eat?
Or do you think we will always eat animals?
Come and learn about the new food chain, where humans are no longer on top.  Bring your friends.  And a carrot.
