Avie Poll: Regrets in SL: Regrets in Second Life - Is there anything you wish you never did in SL? – Glossom Resident Reporting…

In our favor or against us, at some times in our lives a sense of regret takes hold of us.
Regret is one of those feelings that seem to trouble everyone's life, even our virtual ones.  If socializing in a multicultural virtual world means sharing cultures, experiences and ways of living, it also means dealing with opposing ideas, actions and moral and ethical values which may lead to incompatibilities.

What makes us unique individuals, our own way of thinking and acting is present in everything we do and when interacting with other people.  A less friendly or misjudged behavior or attitude, a word placed in the wrong moment, a thoughtless action or any other decisions can trigger negative reactions and a whirlwind of negative feelings that may result in broken ties, lost friendships or any other consequences to the various degrees of seriousness.

Dealing with the consequences of our actions is not easy but living with regret is painful. Sadness, self-punishment, concert are words that best describe how you feel after hurting somebody or even yourself.  So how can you cope with regret?

We traveled the streets of Second Life and the SL Forums asking residents the question: Regrets in Second Life - Is there anything you wish you never did in SL? The SLE would like to thank those who have promptly agreed to participate.

Jamiee Noel McDaniel (jamiee.seoung): Oh that's easy. One regret that I would take back is rushing into relationships and families without really thinking.

Inverted Sunlight: Trying to ignore my gut and letting my guard down.

Johan Thorbjørn (lazanja): there is no actual action in specific which if regret I made. However, all the troubles and bad things that happened to me are because of my behavior and personality. So, only thing I could regret really is my attitude towards things. But all in all, I really don’t regret anything. I don’t like looking into past either, what is done is done, it’s all education at some point.

Wdwalker: being so trusting.

Mr. M: I’d rather stay anonymous at this point. Most of the things I got involved in sl I chose to do-- some of them I had to leave behind because of rl or finances but as for "regretting" any of it i cant say that i do-- it’s been a learning curve like anything in any life.

Mr. S: I think that the thing I regret the most is being used to fight someone else’s fight. I wish that at times I could just walk away and let people fight it out themselves but I feel like I have to help them and sometimes it ends worse for me than for them.

jujmental: Being faithful, then I changed.

Ren Toxx: Being unfaithful.

Exteriorizing also helps us deal with regret, so make some use of the comments area to share your experiences.

  1. I regret that i didnt show enough interest in a project my partner worked hard for and that this created understandable sad feelings. I wish i could turn back time and show the interest all the hard work deserves. Because i love what she does and every piece of work she does is art, filled with great talent and creativity. I regret that I made her feel i would not care.

  2. I'm hope she understands you are busy and that she is loved and in your thought, even when you cannot be there to celebrate all her milestones.
