These are the peak months for outdoor ceremonies and receptions, In Second Life the weather is beautiful all year round, even when it's snowing!  One thing's for certain: there is always love in the air and weddings happening across the grid.

It can be a stressful  time when wedding planning. Deciding on a date is first and foremost. When the date is set, the next order of business is picking out the wedding party. Who will be your best man or maid of honor? Want 2…3 it’s all up to you! We tend to think we know how the world works, but do we?  Does anyone really understand it?  What does the world run on?

We are used to the picture of the world running on oil, but that has only been true for the last century or so.  Before that, maybe it was the possession of fertile land.  What will be the next thing that makes the world work?  Resources?  Energy? 

Come to GeekSpeak and discuss macroeconomics and who or what really runs the planet.  And let’s learn a thing or two about the shady background to the world in which we are all trying to make our living.  Bring your friends!

GeekSpeak - is it time we turned to the sea for resources? Join the discussion Saturday May 11th at 12pm SLT

Technological progress has made it possible to plan for deep sea mining, mining for resources at the bottom of the sea or mining the sea water itself for minerals, for gold or for salt.  We can also use the sea for solar energy platforms.  We can harvest seaweeds and plankton.

What effect will this have on landbased nations? Will such harvesting in international waters be allowed?  Will we change the laws on international waters?  Will there be wars over the use of the sea?  Will seasteading (living on the sea) be allowed?  Will it lead to new sea nations?

What effect will using the sea have on marine ecosystems?  Will it solve our resource problems?  Will it lead to new problems?

Come and discuss the deep blue sea.  Bring a lifeboat.

  On May 19, 2012, the SL Bar Association will kick-off its first annual Law Day event in SL. To highlight the special reach of Second Life around the world, the Justitia Legal Resource Village will celibrate this year's theme No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom with a panel presentation and exhibition drawing attention to the role of courts as protectors of human rights and freedoms around the world. Events will take place May 19-June 3.

"Law Day is a new and exciting prospect for the SL Bar Association and we look forward to reaching across barriers of all kinds to promote the rule of law around the world." noted Sam Courtois, President of the SL Bar Association. Law Day is an annual event, which was originally conceived in 1957 when American Bar Association President Charles Rhynes envisioned a special national day to mark our commitment to the rule of law. The following year, US President Dwight D. Eisenhower established the first Law Day. Law Day was made official in 1961 when the United States Congress issued a joint resolution designating May 1 as the official date for celebrating Law Day.

As Second Life is a virtual world with a unique ability to break traditional real world barriers, the SL Law Day event has been modified in format in order to reach out to a larger audience.
