LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR 2024 TRIBUTE to our FASHION ICONS L$200,000 IN PRIZES!

SHOW US HOW YOU STYLE

For its 9th edition, the LOOK of the YEAR competition will pay tribute to five fashion icons of who have particularly inspired LUXE Paris over the course of its 12 years of existence. 

Participants will have to draw inspiration from these stylish icons to create a LUXE Paris outfit that meets their vision of fashion, and snap a picture to send us. Yes! Oui! Si! It is that easy!

LUXE Paris legendary friends

JADE, PONCHITUTI, ZURI, COCO & FROLIC

Three of these icons have left us but their exceptional talent and charisma have forever marked our memory and the fashion world, in Second Life or in reality: Frolic Mills, famous editor-producer-designer-model and so many other things, sadly deceased last winter, Jade Pono, our very dear LOOK of the YEAR 2022 who left SL in March 2023 to fight cancer and never came back...  and Gabrielle Coco Chanel, the one who revolutionized fashion by freeing women from their corsets in the 20'!

Our two other icons are still alive and kicking and shaping our virtual fashion world. They also greatly inspired LUXE Paris: Ponchituti Boucher, top model, co-owner of One On One Agency, nicknamed The Mother of all Models because she discovered so many stars of the runway, and Zuri Rayna, designer of the jewelry that bears her name, accomplished businesswoman and ardent supporter of SL designers.

Each of the 5 weeks of the contest application period will be dedicated to one of these icons and participants will have to create a LUXE Paris outfit for this particular star.

Each of our fashion icons has its text and it is in the light of these Inspiration Texts that our jury will evaluate the applications. There will be no points allocated for physical resemblance with the icon or exact copy of the images we present to you for inspiration.

It's your creativity that counts. We don't want you to copy the icon's style but to present a look that she/he would love, wear with enthusiasm, or highly suggest to a friend of the opposite sex.

New this year

MEN CAN PARTICIPATE

Another big news this year, men can participate! Regardless of the gender of the icons you choose to interpret, the inspirational texts offer the possibility of presenting a feminine or masculine version and our LOOK of the YEAR 2024 can be both, a woman or a man. LUXE Paris creates a wide range of clothing for everyone.

The first week of the competition will be dedicated to Jade Pono, this exquisite Japanese lady who represented LUXE Paris so brilliantly. Known for her outside-the-box style, Jade was also a promoter of beauty diversity. Find out more about her in her inspirational text on LUXE Paris website.

FULL PERM photos of your LUXE Paris outfits inspired by Jade must be sent to the avatar LUXEParisLOOKoftheYEAR inworld by June 20th before midnight. You must include your legacy name and that of the icon that inspired you in the title of your photos. Misidentified photos will be disqualified.

On June 22th, the jury will choose the six best applications of the week, that is to say the participants who have best interpreted Jade's inspirational text. These semi-finalists will be revealed on June 26th on our website and in the SL Enquirer. The photos of the semi-finalists will also be featured in the Spanish magazine SL Confidencial.

The second week will be devoted to Ponchituti Boucher, the third to Zuri Rayna, the fourth to Coco Chanel and the last to Frolic Mills. We will then have 30 semi-finalists selected by the jury. Detailed chronology of the contest in the SCHEDULE section of our website.

A free LUXE Paris ensemble

FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS

All participants will receive a free LUXE Paris ensemble upon receipt of their 1st photo! 

You can submit your application for one, few or all our icons and you can present up to 3 photos for each of our icons as long as they show different LUXE Paris outfits. The more you participate, the more likely you are to be noticed by our jury.

This competition is open to fashion professionals as well as amateurs, simply in love with fashion. The evaluation by the jury will be strictly based on the quality and originality of the styling presented. The LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR organization will offer free modelling training and mentoring to the finalists, for beginners and professionals. The renowned ONE On ONE Agency and IN-NOVA Academy will lead these training sessions.

When we will have 30 semi-finalists (6 semi-finalists per week/icon), the jury will re-evaluate all the 30 photos in the race to choose 12 grand finalists.

The most generous fashion competition

L$ 50,000 CASH TO THE WINNER 

The twelve finalists, who will be revealed on July 31th on our website and in the SL Enquirer, will win L$84,000 in prizes. The winners of the title LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR will receive L$ 50,000 cash while the two runners up will win L$10,000 cash each. The trio will also share almost L$100,000 in gifts from our sponsors.

On September 8th, for the grand finale, each finalist will have to interpret the style of one of our icons but this time live on stage. The selection of the icon awarded to each finalist will be made by drawing lots.

So what are you waiting for? VWBPE 2024 Conference MYTHIC ORIGINS 14 - 16 March 2024 in Second Life®

The 17th annual Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education Conference, beginning on Thursday, March 14th, 2024, will be an online distributed conference happening in multiple virtual spaces. This conference focuses on the use of immersive virtual environments for educational purposes including virtual and augmented reality. 

This year we are returning to our Earth build. Each region represents a different terrestrial biome, including wetlands, desert, badlands, grasslands, and forests. Conference attendees will be among the first to be able to explore!

To the best ability possible, VWBPE provides educational and networking opportunities that are relevant to educational curriculum development utilizing virtual environments and “best practices”. These include

helping to build community through extension of learning best practices to practical application of those ideas and techniques;

providing networking opportunities for educators and the communities that help support education; and

providing access to current innovations, trends, ideas, case studies, and other best practices for educators and the communities that help support education

One of the key challenges faced by the educational community is how to make the best use of new immersive technologies in a way that is sustainable and accessible based on limited budgets available to both instructors and students. Platforms that are free or open source, or that can be shared across a broad audience are showcased, including methods and research around best practices in their use and applicability.

Our theme for this year is Mythic Origins.

Mythic stories can provide a way to engage students in critical thinking and analysis, as well as developing their creativity and imagination. Mythic origins can provide students with a deeper understanding of their own cultural heritage and how it has evolved over time. It allows us to explore the origins of our socially constructed myths and legends that have inspired educators and their various works.

Join us as we all share experiences and successes in how virtual technologies used in the classroom have helped shape education for the better.

This year's keynote speakers are Wagner James Au and Dr. Nellie Deutsch. Invited speakers include representatives from Linden Lab, and the 2020 Thinkerer - Renne Emiko Brock. 

The VWBPE conference keynote speakers and their respective presentations are featured on the conference website (http://vwbpe.org), along with a program of exciting presentations, social activities, and networking events that will set extraordinary discussions in motion.  

The VWBPE Immersive Experiences showcase unique and interesting work being conducted across the metaverse. We invite you to join us as we explore eleven interactive and engaging locations across five virtual environments. The Immersive Experiences are scheduled from March 9th through 31st (exclusive of the conference dates). 6th January -  1pm SLT - EVENT LAUNCH

Join us for your first lap of 2024!  We will have a  #RelayFirstLap  gathering.

We all do a few laps together to kick off the new Relay year!

6th to 20th January - Fastest Laps Challenge

After the Event Launch, the circuit opens for the Fastest Laps Challenge.

This is open 24 hours a day for the duration of the event until 20th January.

Make as many laps as you want, practice the route to try to improve your lap time!

The best 100 avatars times are recorded on the scoreboard near the start line.

20th January - Race Event - Starts at 1pm SLT

The event will culminate in a Race event.

Attendees will be divided into Qualifier races, then on to Finals for the top placed riders.

After the racing session will be the Podium awards ceremony.

Trophies will be awarded to the top 5 in the race Final, and the top 5 Fastest Laps.

After the podium, all entries can also collect a memento trophy of the event.

Xanadu Gallery of SL Erotic Photography- Opens January 4th!

 

Xanadu Gallery is open for preview by journalists, critics, and the general public. The official opening, with DJ Calli (Callipygian Christensen), is Thurs., Jan. 4, 2024, from 7:30-9:00 pm slt.

 

Xanadu's inaugural exhibition features images of desire, love, and lust ranging from seductive and suggestive to urgent and raunchy. Covering a multitude of erotic themes and scenarios, these images by 23 photographers stand out for aesthetic, narrative, sensual, and carnal qualities. Curator Kerry Streeter consulted with an informal committee from SL's sexual demimonde for insight into current trends before making a selection from thousands of images viewed on Flickr. 

 

The opening show includes photos by Anyka Aiséirí Bjornsdottir (camron.mcmahon), Blossom Blakewell, Callipygian Christensen, Chase Stone (thechasestone), Chris Lion (chrisl68), Dae Fangs (dae.hexem), Dr. Strangelove (sugarmanmortlock), Eve Nightfire (eve9d9), Laura Richards (laura.demonista), Leeza Ravenhurst, Leslʮ (leslyyyyy.lisa), Mέરίε ħλώκ βιηgγι (merie77), Paige Silvercloud, Peachy (peach.boucher), Poko (apokolipps), Kerry Streeter, Rachel Nutcracker Swallows (elenamicheals.core), Raven (ravenmatlock), Simone Landes (simonelanders), Stephanie Amare (stephanie.calavera), Titus Palmira, Yana Courley (layana0xanna), and Zeta Vandyke. Some artists are offering photos for sale; all proceeds go to them.

 

Future shows at Xanadu will explore the work of individual artists or feature special themes.

 

Kerry Streeter, curator of Xanadu Gallery, is a photographer who has been exhibiting RL photos for over 15 years, with shows at such well-known SL galleries as the Chelsea Hotel and Molly Bloom's, and at her own Second Looks Gallery, now closed to make way for Xanadu. 

 

Xanadu is a place for enjoying erotic pleasures as well as viewing them, with a full selection of singles and couples dances. Scattered through the gallery are pole dance stations, lap dance chairs, erotic furniture, and bdsm equipment. Inspired by the images, visitors may enjoy intimate liaisons with friends and strangers alike.

 

A famous American writer has lamented that erotic art is often "executed with that crude haste to see the finished product that marks the amateur. True pornography is given us by vastly patient professionals." You be the judge...
