Role-play & Achievements Drive Play in the beYou World Shiny Blackheart reporting

The life simulation game,The Sims, is one of the mot successful video game franchises series of all time. No one might have predicted this at the start of the games creation. Designer Will Wright had conceived the game while recovering from the trauma of losing his home to fire and using the construction of a “virtual dollhouse” to rebuild his life while also creating a new home in the physical realm. A game without winners or losers, driven by an AI built on an armature of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Hamden Turner’s mind maps, role playing life in the digital universe has been a great success and it should be no surprise that in the world’s largest virtual community, Second Life, a game within the game called beYOU World help players strive for life’s big and little achievements, giving them a sense of accomplishment.

After months of brainstorming in 2013 Brianna Altneu, Moxie Polano and a few other community members like Gunner Walker, Forda Fairlane wanted to begin this “game within the grid of second life.”

Brianna Altneu and Moxie Polano are the founders of beYOU World but the team has had a few different members as the beYOU project developed. They say they have the “perfect team” currently: Moxie Polano (art, design, game play and 3-D Mesh), Brianna Altneu (in-world scripting, game development, art) Treon Bikcin (backend developer/web design and in-world communications and scripting) and Denis Tristan (3-D Mesh Art wizard and animations guru).

The game is very complex and the team took over a year testing in a beta version and adding things as the process unfolded. The developers explained, “The game will always be released in steps as its real-life based ideas, so it’s never ending and always changing in natural order.  There will always be more stages and things to add like professions, new quests, crafting supply's, recipes for cooking in the kitchen, farming crops and more and more!”

When asked what is the core mission that drives all this effort founders sayIn beYou you can be me, be you, or be virtually anything or anybody you want. The beYou team realizes that everyday real life can be overwhelming and hard at times. Some of us may have disabilities that hold us back from things we would love to do in the real life. Some don't have real families or friends to even interact with. Regardless of your RL situations, our main goal is to provide players just that and to make it fun and entertaining. We want to give the players a game where they can feel like they are apart of a family and community that care for each other. Community, it’s what brings people together.  Players can also choose from out many professions available. Perhaps be a Doctor, Lawyer, Farmer, or even a Chef. All of these professions are geared with the end goal of personal accomplishment.”

“The goal is to create a community based economy that grows from different professions that are interconnected between each other.  This progression acts just like real life progression, which takes the time and drive, depending on the level of role play you wish to involve. You make it your life to enjoy and fulfill as you wish.”

The game begins with retrieving the role-playing HUD system, found and purchased for free in the SL marketplace, and creating an account. Of course a player must agree to the terms of service, and should read them because like in any community not understanding them or abiding by guide, can get you exiled.  A note card with account creation instructions is delivered along with the HUD.

“The HUD isn't the main focus of the game. Although you do need it to interact with beYou World and it will show a player their personal stats. It's just one part of the whole system. [The beYOU website is] more important because the game is based on assets you hold in your beYou account.” the founders explained. The website, http://www.beyouworld.comis a crucial part of the gaming experience.

Some information in the registration process like your account key and legacy name are set-up automatically but then you will choose some attributes that begin to create your game experience. Is your player a teen, adult or child, male or female are the first few choices.A player who wants to be the best furry lawyer in SL for example is also available; just select the option from human, vampire, furry, or supernatural as per your preference from the race selections.

Once registration is complete just login and make sure you have the beYOU HUD and your beWorld meter.

The meter tells the player their stats in the categories: Hygiene, Energy, Reputation, Social, Wellness, Mana, Mood, and Dedication. As soon as game play commences the player’s 100% reading begins to diminish, as these stats require sustenance, care and skilled activity to sustain.

Skill Points are rewarded by wearing the HUD and being in world as well as game-play. As Skill points become available they can be allotted to seven different abilities: Charisma, Logic, Creativity, Spirituality, Fitness, Cooking, and Mechanical.

The community in beYOU world is very diverse and anyone who has watched the group chat of beYOU World will find a helpful community of administrators and players managing the beginning learning curve and strategizing their gameplay. Founders are encouraging helpfulness in the game because they claim the community is“still growing [and] we are seeing all kinds of different types of people from everywhere
beYou is a very versatile gaming environmentand gameplay is approached in different ways. Some players are role-playing the family unit, while others are happy totest their culinary skills and farm all on their own.

Founders saywhat makes beYOU different from other experiences in SL is “that there are no bounds to what can be added to this experience, you decide.  We will continue to provide the tools and content to enhance your experience by enhancing and expanding out he careers and game features as much as possible.”

When asked if beYOU is solely about the virtual experience or is it a RL educational tool as well the team says, “We think that with everything in SL there is a commitment from RL if you plan to progress in anything worthwhile and productive. Some people may make huge commitments to their careers in beYou because they can generate Lindens by selling their products to other customers. Others however might only use beYou in passing and stay clear from any RL time commitment.”

Spotlight Interview

Q. Shiny: How did beYou begin?

A. beYOU Founders: Back in 2013 Brianna Altneu, Moxie Polano and a few other community member like Gunner Walker, Forda Fairlane  come up with some ideas to make a game within the grid of second life. Moxie and Brianna had worked together on some other projects in world and become great friends. They enjoyed working together as well as shared the same rare work ethics. Although it took months playing with ideas even to begin a foundation, they come up with a game based on real life role-playing with achievements based on gameplay that gave the players a feeling of accomplishment.

Q. Shiny: When did the community launch? Did it go through stages?
A. beYOU Founders: We started testing with the community in a beta, and add things as we went. It took about a year in beta because the game is so complex. The game will always be released in steps as its Real life based ideas, so it’s never ending and always changing in natural order.  There will always be more stages and things to add like professions, new quest, crafting supply's, recipes for cooking in the kitchen, farming crops and more

Q. Shiny: Who are the founders? builders?
Brianna Altneu and Moxie Polano are the founders. Through the years there had been a few other team members but we found the perfect match for the current team that includes Moxie Polano (Art, design, game play and 3d Mesh), Brianna Altneu (In world scripting, game development, art and overall master), Treon Bikcin (Back End Developer/Web Design and in-world communications and scripting) and Denis Tristan (3d Mesh Art Wizard and animations guru).

Q. Shiny: Who designed the HUD?
A. beYOU Founders: Overall it was a collaborative team effort on the function of the Hud. Moxie Polano did the HUD design /art and Treon Bikcin did the scripting. The meter was designed by Denis Tristan and also scripted by Treon Bikcin.

Q. Shiny: What is beYou’s core mission and goal?

A. beYOU Founders: In beYou you can be me, be you, or be virtually anything or anybody you want.   The beYou team realizes that everyday real life can be overwhelming and hard at times. Some of us may have disabilities that hold us back from things we would love to do in the real Life. Some don't have real families or friends to even intervene with . Regardless of you RL situations, our main goal is to provide players just that and to make it fun and entertaining.  We want to give the players a game where they can feel like they are apart of a family and community that cares for each other.. Community..  it’s what brings people together.  Players can also choose from out many professions available. Perhaps be a Doctor,  Lawyer, Farmer, or even a Chef. All of these professions are geared with the end goal of personal accomplishment.

Q. Shiny: How would you describe the community? What makes it distinct from other experiences in SL?

A. beYOU Founders: We have a very diverse and helpful community. Because it is still growing we are seeing all kinds of different types of people from everywhere and  one common trait we like to push within our group is helpfulness. Users always help each other out with information they’ve gained over time. Of course, we also provide the community with experienced CSR’s as well as encourage player interaction to assist in anyway possible. beYou is so versatile, gameplay can be approached in several different ways.  For example, some people really enjoy role-playing the family unit, while others just want to cook and farm and keep to themselves and do their own thing. I think what makes it different from other experiences in SL is that there are no bounds to what can be added to this experience, you decide.  We will continue to provide the tools and content to enhance your experience by enhancing and expanding out he careers and game features as much as possible.

Q. Shiny: Is beYOU solely about the virtual experience or is an RL educational tool as well? Or both? How does that relationship work? What do you think users are looking for in the beYou Community?

A. beYOU Founders: We think that with everything in SL there is a commitment from RL if you plan to progress in anything worthwhile and productive. There are certainly some aspects of careers that allow for learning and may translate over to RL in some ways. Additionally these may not always translate over as people would expect. There is certainly a dichotomy to it. Some people may make huge commitments to their careers in beYou because they can generate Lindens by selling their products to other customers. Others however might only use beYou in passing and stay clear from any RL time commitment.

Q. Shiny: Why should other SL users join beYou in you opinion?
A. beYOU Founders: Not only is it fun and exciting but it can make them lindens. Players can create their own farmers markets and craft things to sell as each profession offers items that others professions may need in their business. It is a great way to meet other people and share common interests. We are always taking suggestions from our users on how to improve the game and the more people there are contributing the better the experience ends up being.

Q. Shiny: What I one of the greatest success stories, or interesting moments in beYou’s history you would like to share?
A. beYOU Founders: It’s difficult to pinpoint any specific success story to stand out from the rest, however we think it’s safe to say our biggest success story is getting beYou off the ground and running. The amount of work that goes into building and maintaining a successful role play system like this is huge, so huge it took years of development. We have managed to get to where we are now with a relatively small group of people actually grinding away behind the scenes so we are proud of our progress so far.

Q. Shiny: What are beYou’s current challenges?
A. beYOU Founders: Current Challenges is keeping up with the community's excitement. We have shared many things that will be added to the gaming system and they want them as soon as possible. It can be quite complex to add one thing even as small as a recipe let alone a new profession. The beYou team works diligently to provide more content on a regular basis to enrich the gaming experience.

Q. Shiny: What are beYou’s future goals and visions?
A. beYOU Founders: This game is so expandable so really the sky's the limit.  Plus we can't share all the secrets :) The goal is to create a community based economy that grows from different professions that are interconnected between each other.  This progression acts just like real life progression, which takes the time and drive, depending on the level of role play you wish to involve.   You make it your life to enjoy and fulfill as you wish.

Q. Shiny: Decribe the beYou HUD?Speak to its development and features. What do you want readers to know about the HUD?

A. beYOU Founders: The HUD isn't the main focus of the game. Although you do need it to interact with beYou and it will show a player their personal stats. It's just one part of the whole system. More important because the game is based on assets you hold in your beYou account , the website located at http://www.beyouworld.com/ is a crucial part of the gaming experience.

Q. Shiny: What are the important landmarks for beYOU? Where should people visit to learn more?

A. beYOU Founders: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/beYou/112/151/30  is the landmark to our help area and learning center.

Q. Shiny: Are there any important upcoming events that you would like readers to know about?

A. beYOU Founders: We are heading into our one-year anniversary for going live. There aren’t any specific events that we are holding right now but one thing is for sure, we are expecting to make many more improvements and add more careers in year two. Expect for more beYou products and fun game additions to come out in the next few months.

Q. Shiny: Is there anything I haven’t asked and you want to share with readers? Any images?

A. beYOU Founders: We are continuously working on game content on daily basis to add to the already literally thousands of items already implemented into the game.  Each and every item is scripted to enhance the gaming experience of each and every player.  For example, living room suites, yoga mats, bedrooms, dinners, drinks and so much more.  beYou developers have introduced crafting items to expand each profession's productivity.  Every item for beYou is made to directly interact with the game HUD and enhance the RP experience or each and every player. And if you want to have a little laugh the team here at beYou has great humor, just start reading the back of some of the product labels and packaging as we do like to have a little fun as we work!!!

Virtual Worlds and Gender Bending - Seersha Heart Reporting

Second Life celebrated fifteen years on June 15, 2018.  It is hard to believe the humble beginnings of this virtual world with a few prims and an ocean.  These days Linden Labs advertises Second Life as being a place you may make money with a business, go on adventures or create anything you may imagine.  Years ago, Second Life reported to users that a great deal of the female avatars were men in real life.  This falls within the promised activity to create anything you may imagine.  This phenomenon has been the subject of many forums and some studies in the greater gaming community.  What do we think about the person’s gender behind an avatar?  What are the expectations in Second Life as to the person behind the avatar?

An article in Uproxx.com published an article recently titled “They’re All Men”.  Writing about MMORPGs [Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games], the author reformed the popular acronym.  Reframing MMORG, the author said these letters stand for Men Masquerading Occasionally as Really Pretty Girls.  Some gamers argue that by choosing a female avatar they are treated more nicely by males giving them certain advantages such as assistance in battle or locating rare items.  I am big World of Warcraft fan.  I don’t have any male avatars in WOW.  Instead I have a bevy female in multiple realms as various skill levels.  “Researchers from five universities across the US and Canada studied footage of 375 gamers playing a custom WOW quest.  They wanted to determine if difference in online behaviors in characters of different genders aligned with the societal expectations of conduct from men and women.”  A very complicated way to say the researchers wanted to see if there was mansplaining going on in world.  What they found is not surprising.  Men playing women behave differently that women playing women.  This difference is most apparent in the way they move their avatar.  In WOW men playing women tended to jump 116 times more often than women playing women.  They also tended to walk backwards much more frequently.

As with this study of men within WOW behavior, most in SL will claim they can tell a man in a woman avatar.  I went out in the community and asked several men and women if they believed they could tell the gender behind the avatar.  Most said yes, they could tell.  The traits I heard most often were opinions expressed about the breasts of the avi or the general promiscuity.

In the online publication syfywire.com published an article “How Science Can Tell When Dudes are Pretending to be Women MMORPGS”.  This article began with stating the obvious, sometimes it is just “cool” to be a female avatar.  Sometimes we want to step outside of ourselves and be someone different.  This article also cited the US/Canadian study of 375 WOW gamers.  Men are much more likely to play women than women are to play men.  In the study 23% of the men switched genders to only 7% of the women.  This article quickly came around to the question I wanted an answer to most.  Does anyone really care the gender of the person behind an avi?

The short answer is that no, most people asked the question if a person’s real-life gender identity was important said “no”.  The prevailing opinion I encountered both in person within SL and from reading forums is that demanding to know a person’s rl gender identity goes against what SL is all about.  Creating anything you may imagine means just that in a nutshell.  Many people I spoke with were quite adamant that a person’s real life is that person’s business.  If someone chooses to share information that is the choice of that person.  I learned a great deal from these responses.  I live in SL with a great deal of my private information available through my profile or through google.  [hears the tap tap tapping of keys on keyboards googling me 😊] I decided to share some of the gender issues I learned about while doing this story.

One resident wanted to know if there are men available that will date a female avi who is a man in real life.  These are some of the responses:
“Being female in SL is not an unspoken promise of being a real-life female.  And even if the user behind the avatar is female…there is no right for anyone to expect to get a verification or any RL information, to begin with.  If someone worries that the other person might have a different gender, they shouldn’t go dating in a virtual world…seriously.  After all its SL and if the time spend with a certain person is enjoyable…who cares who they are in RL?”  Syo Emerald
“To me personally I don’t care and those who do yes are usually not worth his/her time.  Honestly if they are never going to meet what’s the difference?”  “Unless I am going to meet someone I don’t care what sex they are playing” Sephina Frostbite
“I am a male playing a female avi and I’m open about it in my profile.  I’ve found guys really want nothing to do with me” Scarlet Waits
Another question posed about gender is does playing a woman in SL give any insight to how women feel in RL?  This was met with a resounding “No” to which I will add “duh”.  Some of the responses are worth sharing:
“Not really.  Maybe a little?  SL is a whole little encapsulated experience.  Being a woman in SL will let you experience what is it’s like to be a woman in SL.”  RhondA Huntress
“Nope not even close” Aislin Ceawlin
“In RL, I’ve never had a guy try to grab my crotch from 100m away, while I’m clothes shopping, as their arms just ain’t that long, and their girlfriends/wives will beat the crap out of them if they try, just before the police arrive to drag them to jail.  And so on…No, female in SL is remarkably unlike Female in RL” Klytyna

I circle around to one of the original questions; is it even necessary to identify your RL gender in SL?  If you want people to know what is the best way to present yourself.  Here are some responses to that question:
“Start by putting in your profile something like “Already in a relationship…NOT LOOKING!” come to think of it, that’s where you can end it too.  No one has any need to know your real gender…ever. [Unless YOU decide to tell them.”   Darrius gothly
“Nothing wrong with it.  What is the point of having a second life if you can’t swap gender.  If you want people to know put it in your profile.  Just put it in a s a statement of fact without either apologizing or being aggressive about it [e.g. So if you don’t like it you can…<don’t do this).  Most people are pretty cool about this sort of thing in SL and for the rest you have Block, Derender and Shift+Ctrl+H” Ohjiro Watanabe
“Unless told otherwise, I accept people as their avis are.  For the most part  all of SL is RP of a sort.  Very few of us actually look like the avatar we’re created.  There are a lot of guys in SL using female avis for several reasons…clothes, clothes and …clothes.”  “You really only need to “tell” if you’re going to be in a relationship.  For casual, it’s no one’s business but your own.”   Bobbie Faulds

In the end, what you reveal in SL is your business be it gender or another attribute of your RL.  I encourage you to always remember that each avi you meet has a human being behind that avatar.  Each person deserves to be treated with respect when you engage with them.  It is not deceptive to create a different gender than the one you have in real.  As always, it is deceptive to lie to real people in world.  If you tell someone you are a female in real life when you are not, this is deceptive and hurtful.  If you don’t want someone to know your RL gender, do not reveal it.  Don’t lie.  As everyone I spoke to related to me, most people in SL have been hurt at one time or another by someone’s lies.  It is fine to role play, it is fine to create whatever image you wish for your avatar.  It is your right to disclose what you wish about your real life.  If you decide to disclose, be honest.

Some avatars names have been changed at their request.  Resources used for this story beyond personal interviews may be located at these websites:

The softer side of kink” -Pen Dragon reporting

Second Life has a lot to offer. The choices you can make are almost limitless and fueled only by your imagination. It’s not hard to agree that there is something for everyone. Most people enjoy shopping, going to clubs and living a pretty normal, happy life but there are those whose tastes and preferences run more on the wild, kinky side.

At some point almost everyone has come across a sex sim, maybe even a BDSM sim and wondered what all the hype and interest was about for these places. Some may even take a deeper look out of curiosity and may or may not have found something they were interested in exploring while others are turned away because it offends their sensibilities or find it too taboo. Some think of BDSM and imagine whips, leather, cuffs and chains and see it as a form of emotional and physical abuse.

The term BDSM is like an umbrella; it covers many varied and different things. The acronym itself means Bondage & Discipline, Dominance & submission, Sadism & Masochism. Within each of those categories there are an almost unlimited number of specific kinks, decisions and lifestyle choices with just as many people who make those choices and live the way that suits them best. Many who do not know about that lifestyle may be under the impression that there is only one to participate in BDSM, only one way things are done.

Allow me to introduce you to something different about BDSM, an aspect of that lifestyle that is quite often misunderstood and maligned. It is called the Daddy Dom (Dominant) and babygirl relationship. At some point you may have seen someone with a Daddy tag or a babygirl tag and wondered what that was about or what it involved. Some have the idea that it is incestous or a form of illegal age play, but as you’ll discover, but it can be something completely different.

The roles in the relationship, Daddy and babygirl, are similar to that of a Dom and a sub (submissive) insofar as the Daddy is the head of the relationship and the babygirl consensually agrees to obey his rules and decisions and agrees that she belongs to him. While this is typical, there are open and even polyamorous Daddy & babygirl relationships. To me one of the most beautiful things about a lifestyle relationship is that it is defined by you to meet the needs and desires you have instead of following traditional societal standards of how a relationship works.

What differentiates a Daddy babygirl relationship is the dynamic on which it is based. Typically a babygirl behaves in a more innocent, childlike manner allowing her Daddy to care for her and allowing her to be free from the stresses and drama of the world around her. That is what leads to the biggest misconception about the relationship, age play. The babygirl is not pretending to be a young child, she is simply behaving as a child might, there is no age given. A babygirl can be any age, it’s the state of mind that drives her. She may want to color in a coloring book, be given a bath or read a story. Sometime it is just a temporary need to retreat to a more carefree mental attitude. The Daddy is responsible for meeting her needs when she is in this headspace. He will take total control and make sure that her needs and desires are met. The Daddy is also responsible for her discipline, as well as rewarding her for good behavior. This is another BDSM aspect of the relationship.

Another popular misconception is that the relationship is incestious. Because of the title Daddy, many think of this role as that of the father and the babygirl being the daughter. Typically, that is not the case, however; as states earlier, there are those who choose to roleplay that particular relationship, but it is not the norm. The Daddy is a father-like figure, but not the father. He is still her husband, boyfriend or Dom. The Daddy is her caregiver, her lover and her disciplinarian and in many cases gets to know his babygirl on a deeper, more intimate level than what most relationships allow.

As with any relationship there is, of course, a sexual component and within the umbrella of BDSM this can and often does involve bondage, sadism, masochism and the aforementioned whips, chains, and cuffs. Again, every relationship is different, tailored to the couple involved  and no two are the same. But it is the use of such devices and toys that will deepen and strengthen a relationship. The deep trust a babygirl, or submissive, must place into her Daddy or Dom in order for her to consensually submit herself to him and allow him to use these devices and toys, trusting that he knows what he is doing, is what brings about the unsurpassed intimacy of a BDSM relationship.

Just as important as the sexual encounter can be, so is the time taken afterwards to make sure that the babygirl or sub is okay both mentally and physically. This is called aftercare and is a vital part of the experience. This is time taken to mend any wounds, comfort and calm. This reinforces the bond between the two and deepens the relationship further.

Any BDSM relationship can be complicated, involved and satisfying but, and this is my own opinion, the relationship between a Daddy Dom and his babygirl is a special one. It’s a deeply trusting, inconceivably intimate and extremely loving one. Most people find love, at least once in their lives, but few will ever know the tight bond that develops between a Daddy and his babygirl.

If you are interested in learning more about this lifestyle, I strongly suggest you visit the Babygirl Skygarden or Omega D/s library.

Angels & Demons Arriving in SL : Interview with Bloodlines Mars Bracken- Seersha Heart Reporting…

In November 2016, I wrote about Bloodlines and sat down for a chat with Mars Bracken.  Now as Bloodlines is celebrating their ten-year anniversary I wanted to see what has happened with Bloodlines in the past two years.  Never disappointing, the Bloodlines group is readying a new release.  From my view point, this will be a very big deal in SL.  Will it surpass prior characters?  When I last spoke to Mars, Bloodlines had a fairly new school created with many classes.  Here I am talking to Mars on what is going on with Bloodlines now….

SEERSHA: Welcome back Mars, thank you for taking some time to talk to me today.  I have a few questions, I want to jump directly to the new release of Angels and Demons first….will you tell me a little bit about each new character and how they fit into the scope of Bloodlines?  When is the release date?  Will the HUDs be on marketplace on the release date?  Where is the best place to buy the new HUD on release date?

MARS:   The new races are designed to work in a fairly familiar way with the system, but obviously provide new roleplay opportunities. We've heard from several people saying they had no interest in Bloodlines until they heard they could play a really benevolent character like an Angel, so apparently that has some appeal.
The release date for these two new races is May 4th, which is also our
10 Year Anniversary event:
https://blog.slbloodlines.com/2018/04/17/bloodlines-10th-anniversary-angels-demons-release-party/

The new HUDs will not immediately be on MP, they will be in our main stores. But soon after we should have them up on the Marketplace and in the affiliate vendors.

SEERSHA:   Will any of the existing characters merge with an Angel or a Demon character [similar to the merge of Vampire and Lycan]?  Where may interested residents get more information on these today?

MARS:  Players will be able to merge or hybridize any two races (other than human), so Angel Lycans and Demon Vampires etc. will definitely be a thing. The Fury HUD will get an update not long after the initial release, and that HUD will be able to be used for any 2-race combination, so there won't be a need for another HUD in each case. At the moment our blog is the most reliable source of information, but not much will be out officially until release day.

SEERSHA:   Was the release date of Angels and Demons delayed?

MARS:  The first time we officially announced a release date was when we talked about May 4th and our anniversary on the blog. Fingers crossed we will meet the deadline!

SEERSHA:   I am not a Bloodlines player as of the writing of this article.  I visit the SIM periodically with friends.  When I saw the Angels and Demons sign I immediately thought that Angels will be full of women and the Demons full of men.  Does your group have any predictions that you may share? [I have since revised that prediction after one woman telling me woman can be bad a$$ demons too!]

MARS:  We hadn't really predicted or imagined any gender split on the races. When we do the vendor art, we of course have to choose what character will be feature most prominently, but we try to just create a balance in the representation. We definitely know a lot of male and female avatars who have expressed interest in both Angels and Demons, so we'll just have to see how it goes!

SEERSHA: That is such exciting news!  You have spoken to me about emergent behaviors that your team notices while monitoring the players.  Did the concept for Angels and Demons come from an emergent behavior or another source? Is this the new thing you referenced to me back 2016?  Do you think there will be a significant number of 1st time players to join the game?  What does your group consider a significant number?

MARS:  Angel and Demons have been requested as races for years now. I think right after we released Lycans, people asked for Zombies for a few years, and then it shifted over to Angels and Demons. Now it seems most of our requests are coming in as Dragons, so that might be next!

We're not sure how many first time players will join because of the Angels and Demons, but it sounds like there will definitely be some. And we consider any additions significant!

SEERSHA:   Oh Dragons…interesting.  Fire breathing would do awful things to my hair.  *laughs*  Now if someone has never played Bloodlines wants to become an Angel or a Demon; will they have a level playing field for exisiting BL players?  That is can a brand-new Demon shoot to the top of achievements without old BL ties?

MARS:  Yes, we are definitely creating brand new ranking pages for Angels and Demons, which should allow people a new arena to compete and achieve in.

SEERSHA: Do you have people in world using a beta HUD of either class right now?  Will there be a lot of help for users of these new HUDs?  Where?

MARS: We do have a beta HUD that just started today, and will run for a little less than a week. We kept the test group small, it's under 2 dozen. We may expand that but we're hopeful we can work out the bugs within that group.

SEERSHA:   I was able to meet and speak to a couple of players who are your Demon Beta’s inworld this past weekend.  I have included pictures of them in this article.  Is there anything else you would like our readers to know about the new release besides the date May 4, 2018?  A link for information?

MARS: Our blog is always the best source for news, and the latest post is this one:

SEERSHA:   You seemed quite proud last time we spoke about the school on the Bloodlines SIM.  Will you tell me who may attend the classes and a summary of what is offered?

MARS: BLU [BLU = Bloodlines University] classes cover the HUDs, Potions, Tools, Metrics, Achievements, Liege Etiquette, and Turning, as well as Q&A sessions.

SEERSHA:   I have heard some discussing the financial aspects of the game.  Can members benefit financially from the game?

MARS: Currently people can benefit by opening a Blood or Soul Bank, or by selling or trading Rare Textures on the Marketplace. We are happy to be in a long tradition of games like Warcraft, Neverwinter, Guild Wars, and EverQuest which enable players to collect (and soon craft!) resources for trade or sale to other players.

SEERSHA:   I am a *huge* WOW fan and player.  I notice that some stores and some SIMS ban Bloodlines participants specifically yet not other RP groups.  What are your thoughts on members being banned from locations in SL?

MARS: We don't blame people for wanting to keep a strict type of roleplay or environment for their virtual experience or home, and excluding all else. Early on we realized we can't control who permits the system where, so we just focus on making the game better and better, and trust that most people will come to realize that having vampires and werewolves and angels and demons running around on their land can actually be a wonderful thing!

SEERSHA:  I wanted to ask you a few questions about products I found on Marketplace.  I found the Gorgon headpiece quite interesting and definitely see one in my future.  These are the products I would like to know more about; the “elf” , the Dark Disciple, the Grave Ghoul and the Tesla Coil.  What can you tell me about these products?

MARS:  All of these items you mentioned are from our original stores, which existed pre-Bloodlines. The Elf and the Dark Disciple were originally marketed to Harry Potter fans at their big RP sim at the time, in a shop we had called Elixir. The Grave Ghoul and Gorgon were in a store called Blood, and our sci-fi fantasy store Acid Rain. After Bloodlines came out, we consolidated all those non-Bloodlines items into one store, Crypt, and kept adding to the collection slowly over the years. Recently however we've actually taken the Crypt stores down in-world, until we can do proper updates on all those products. We love the Gorgon and the Brethren and the Elf and all the rest, but they all are definitely in need of modernization to fit in with the progressing virtual reality in SL.

SEERSHA:   Is there anything else you want the readers to know about Bloodlines?

MARS:  Just that we're always open to suggestions! We have several more big updates coming this year, including our massive RPG Expansion, but we welcome all ideas and have suggestion boxes on our sims for that purpose.

SEERSHA:   I am an avid reader of all kinds of supernatural lore, with Vampires and Lycans a particular favorite.  How is it that a player may be a hybrid of a vampire [undead] and a lycan [living]?  In most lore Vampires and Werewolves are enemies.  What is your involvement with the lore of each character?

MARS:  There are a fair few games and shows where you can be a hybrid of a vampire and a werewolf; the Underworld movie series comes immediately to mind. We try not to write too much mythology at all, so that people are free to roleplay whatever style they wish. And of course if they wish to ignore the existence of hybrids, that's ok too.

SEERSHA:   Bloodlines also has a battle or WAR HUD.  Is this a different identity or is it any current BL character participating in combat?

MARS:  War is tangential to Bloodlines, exists on the same site, and there are a fair few players doing both. We are currently making decisions about how / if War will be connected at all with our upcoming combat / crafting additions in the Bloodlines RPG Expansion.

SEERSHA:   Where are your stores located?  I am publishing the picture you gave me along with this questions.

MARS:  Our stores are located on our collection of 5 full Bloodlines islands. We just recently renamed and moved the sims, so that now the 4 race sims are spokes on the central "Mortal Crossroads", which is where the human store is located. The Angel and Demon stores (and RP areas) are being built at the moment, and there's going to be construction ongoing for a while, leading up to our RPG Expansion.

SEERSHA:   Thank you for answering all of my questions.  I look forward to the release of Angels and Demons.  I will follow up with you after the release.  I am curious to see what emergences about six months after the release.

MARS:  Thanks for the opportunity to speak, we really appreciate it.
