If you play SL a lot, and let Halloween go by without visiting a bunch of Haunted Houses....well, you deserve whatever eggs you get hit with on All Hallowed Eve.

CULTURE: NY Health Scapes: SOHO - The Cyclone - Shon Charisma Reporting...

The Cyclone

Staff Reporter
• Monday, October 18, 2010
As I talked with a newly made friend regarding an upcoming SLE article, she suggested I head to SOHO, New York, and ride the great attraction, The Cyclone -- with my fear of heights, I knew this would be interesting.

As I landed in SOHO, the massive Cyclone loomed before me. As a person who is afraid of heights and obscenely large things, I backpedaled quite a bit to give me some distance from the structure. I immediately decided I needed to work my way up Cyclone, but I wasn't sure what to do. After all, my friend kept saying, "You have to ride the Cyclone. Go there and do it NOW!" I assumed I would arrive and there would only be the rollercoaster, but I was more than pleasantly surprised to take off on a "work out my nerves" walk and find so much to do while there.

Me on the Wonder Wheel

First of all, the Cyclone is definitely the main attraction; however, there are other attractions there, such as the Wonder Wheel, which is based from the real ride in Coney Island. I rode it about three times while I constantly peeked over at the Cyclone, gathering my courage to get on it.

SPOTLIGHT FEATURE: Pure Seduction Club co-owner Arennon Eiren Talks About The Versatile and Newbie-Friendly Club That She Helped Create -Ramon Federal Reporting...

Vivacious avatar Arennon Eiren, along with her partners/co-owners Tennant Hyx and Vectra Newall, has created a new venue for dancing, live entertainment and fun, called the Pure Seduction Club.

People “should come here and enjoy what we have to offer and have a fantastic time with us here and enjoy the live comics and the singers,” Arennon told the SL Enquirer during an interview at the venue.

“For the club, I would just like it to be as good as we can make it, a good place to hang out with friends and have lots of fun while you do,” she added.

There’s a division of labor at Pure Seduction, with each co-owner having specific responsibilities. Tennant Hyx does the paper work and schedules events at the location. Vectra Newell djs and helps with the hosting. According to Arennon, Tennant is “ a syfi mad lil Brit. He loves Doctor Who and is in the Starfleet Academy in SL. Vec loves to dj,” she adds.

As for her own satisfactions from the venue, Arennon says that “For me I enjoy meeting new peeps and just having fun. I love to host and talk.”

SPOTLIGHT FEATURE: $BADA BING GAMING$ 4 years and still Booming with the times -Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

The Bada Bing Club’s original club owners have been around almost as long as I have. The reason I know this is because I used to frequent that club back in the day when it was owned by the original Gambino godfather of Blazing Falls, The Sims Online. As early as 2004, many of the families migrated and settled into other virtual worlds like Second Life and World of Warcraft. I just so happened to arrive here on the same boat as the Mafia Families.

When people think Mafia, they might imagine Al Capone with his Tommy gun or even that scene from Scarface when Tony Montana is smoking a fat blunt in his marble Jacuzzi with a gun in one hand and liquor in the other. The bad boy image is definitely there but that’s hardly what Virtual mafia is. In fact there are quite a few retired old school families taking up residence in Second today. Not to worry, they won’t take over your block or start charging illegal taxes and underground gambling. There is a code that all family members most obey and that is, Loyalty, Honor and Respect. If that is broken, families crumble and new leaderships move in and take over. The ones that prevail stick together and do positive things in the community, while not being above backhanding anyone who disrespects their efforts. For those that did not follow the TSO Enquirer (TSOE) back in it’s more primitive days. Mafia News was all the rave and peeps flocked to the paper just to see what families were up to and who was at war with whom. Believe me, there was never a dull moment.

With years gone by and many of the families going back into the shadows, things got quiet, but it seems The Bada Bing’s foundation is still going strong in the hands of The Capones and continues to thrive in Second Life.

FASHION: "Welcome to Second Life" Lacy Muircastle reporting

Josue Habana
Staff Reporter
• Wednesday, October 13, 2010
I happened across one Josue Habana on 'twitter'. Josue describes himself as a “Proud Father, Second Life & other virtual worlds user, SEO & Internet Marketing Dude, lover of poetry, keen blogger... compulsive writer. Live. Learn. Love”.

So what I hear you ask? I have found it difficult to explain what Second Life is to people who have not been in to see it for themselves, but who nevertheless have an opinion as to what it is. Now Josue has provided a perfect answer to that question! That is what.
Read it for yourself and let me know what you think...

A “rhyming” invitation to all those with pre-conceived ideas about Second Life and Second Lifers to come and try it out for themselves
Contrary to all ideas
You may have pre-conceived,
I’m not a weirdo geek or freak,
Despite what you believe.

I don’t live in a basement,
On my own just eating junk,
I don’t have obscure fetishes,
Not socially defunct.

I’m not a guy who’s getting off
Pretending he’s a chick,
I’m not a chick pretending
That she’s really got a dick!

I’m just a guy, who tends to like
This thing called “Second Life.”
It’s not a tool for cheating,
Or a pixel dial-a-wife.

It’s a place I go to share, create,
A place I go to be
Surrounded by poetic folk
And set my writer free.

You think it’s just a game,
So let me offer clarity,
Music, business, learning,
Art, new friends and charity.

And that is just the tip, my friend,
If you really want to see
What we achieve in Second Life
Then turn off your TV.

Leave your pre-conceived ideas
And your stereotypes behind,
Drop the chip from off your shoulder
And come in with open mind.

Josue, thank you for this truly insightful piece of work.

SPORTS & LEISURE- Who Killed Cheergirl? ~Stacey Cardalines Reporting...

All good detectives start at the scene of the crime... especially when it is the Bimbo Cheerleaders sorority house
Halloween is a time of mystery.

The dead walk the earth, witches stir a cauldron, kids egg your house, you eat 4.7 pounds of candy and have a tummyache until Thanksgiving... Halloween goes from scary to annoying and back.

Halloween is also about stalking, kidnapping, and murdering Bimbo Cheerleaders... preferably for cash and prizes!

The Bimbo Cheerleaders are showing their Halloween spirit by sponsoring a contest. It seems that Cheergirl Allen, the titular head of The Bimbo Cheerleaders group, has come up missing.

Of course, no avatar worth his or her salt will allow such a travesty to go unchecked. It's up to you to hunt down and find Cheergirl.

SL VENUES: Graine Macbain and her "Azure" dream in Second Life- Sandy Demina Reporting...

• Monday, October 11, 2010
You are almost guaranteed a good night out at the Azure Club, house of smooth sounds and cool time.
Pick the right night and you are likely to see one band you desperately try and remember the name of the next morning amongst the four or five who usually play each gig night. There is a relaxed vibe with an open-minded clientele who all have an obvious love of live music, which is appreciated by the bands, many of who are starting out their careers, who regularly pull out all the stops here.

I like to pass nice little deals on to my readers now and then... I can kick some Sports info to you, or I can lead you to Leisure.

I manage to play SL without putting any RL money into it. I'd have a hard time explaining it (investing money on SL) to my husband, who thinks of a computer as a strange box that sits on my desk which can summon box scores and Led Zeppelin songs when he asks me to have it do so.

Like everyone else, I'd like to have a house of my very own here on SL. Unfortunately, one only makes so much money writing/stripping and so forth. It's hard to make enough money to rent a house without investing IRL money into it.

I'm fairly cheap on SL. Not by design... Lanai pays well, and I'm hardly poor. I just don't spend wildly, and I love bargains. I paused while writing this article because the SLE Media Group coughed up a LM to a place that sells gowns for 10 Ls. We'll get to them (Passion For Fashion) some other time. The point is that I live conservatively.

Besides, I don't really need a whole house. All I see me doing with one is changing, hiding, and writing this column. I have very little sex for someone who goes to the places I go looking as I do. Thousands of Ls would be a terrible waste if it went to renting me a house.

All I really need is a room, a bed, and a desk. A view helps, too. For the money I'm willing to spend for a place, I can't be picky. But if I hunt around some, I find the things I want.

Happily, I found such a place. I actually rented a room here, so you'll be my neighbor if you come by. Let's check out Tropical Sound Paradise.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: Avatar Repertory Presents Timeless OEDIPUS REX

The Avatar Repertory Theater has one more weekend of performances remaining to their latest production, Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, and it is a performance well worth your time and your $L. Fresh on the heels of a sellout performance of Alice in WonderSland, Avatar Repertory Theater explores a battle between fate, power, and love through the ancient story of King Oedipus and Queen Jocasta. Audiences will be immersed in ancient Thebes, which has been brought to life in vibrant color by the Avatar Repertory creative team.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: ANY VIRTUAL INK - Dubhna Rhiadra weaves journeys in Second Life

Think about it! Storytelling in a virtual world: people sitting at computers controlling avatars who are sitting somewhere in a virtual environment and listening to someone tell or read a story. On the face of it there’s one reaction – Boring! That’s a lot of sitting! But the wonder of spoken stories in Second Life (SL) comes from one magical source alone, and that is the ability of a voice to enchant, express, and transport you away from all that sitting to somewhere you have never been before. I have heard a gaggle of “storytellers” in Second Life performing audible stories. No matter how you dress it up, if the voice is about as expressive as a paper sack it doesn’t matter what the storyteller is presenting. Of the people doing traditional telling in English on the grid, few can match Welsh-based storyteller Dubhna Rhiadra for her ability to capture your fancy with her voice alone, and spirit you away to another realm all together as she weaves a tale.
