Rockcliffe’s Annual Education & Technology Conference: Nov 9-10, San Francisco

This is the last week to get your registrations in!
The Most Valuable Conference You Can Attend This Year!
"Nothing is more expensive than a missed opportunity." - H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
The September 30 registration deadline for Rockcliffe’s Annual Conference on #EdTech is quickly approaching! Register here: https://shops.urockcliffe.com/product-category/rucc-2018/
The Annual Rockcliffe University Consortium Conference takes traditional conferencing methods and converts them into experiential ones. Attendees can expect a dynamic mixture of sessions, excursions, and critical discussion, all around the topic of innovative technology and its application to education, and how the two can impact our students’ preparedness for the digital world and a continually disrupted job market.
You can multiply the value of a conference, not only by the amount of sessions it provides, but the amount of opportunities it gives you to actively engage in the learning.  This value is far higher than the money that is spent, and certainly much more enduring.
Join us in San Francisco this November, we would love to be able to put a face with the name, share a drink, and help celebrate a new way forward in education.
Live or Virtual Participation? Compare and Decide: https://rucc.confcenter.org/2018futurepresent/for-attendees/live-or-virtual/

About Peter Hamby- Boy on the bus

Hamby is a national political reporter for CNN Digital, based in the network’s Washington, D.C. bureau. His work, including in-depth articles, analysis and a political video franchise, is integrated across all CNN Digital platforms and CNN television.
A seasoned cross-platform journalist, Hamby contributed to CNN’s Emmy Award-winning election coverage throughout America’s Choice 2012, traveling to many of the battleground states as CNN’s reporter-at-large with a focus on the Republican primary contest and Mitt Romney’s campaign. In that role, he broke a number of major political stories, including the news that Gov. Rick Perry would drop out of the race as well as Florida's decision to move their 2012 primary date and up-end the Republican nominating calendar. After the 2012 campaign, POLITICO named Hamby one of "10 Breakout Political Reporters of 2012."
Previously, he covered some of the most high profile political stories of the Obama era, including the 2008 presidential race, the arrival of tea party movement and the Republican resurgence of 2010. During CNN's Peabody Award-winning coverage of the 2008 presidential race, Hamby was a traveling producer and reporter on the campaigns of Mitt Romney, Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Sarah Palin. In 2007, Hamby launched CNN's South Carolina "mini-bureau" to provide on-the-ground coverage of the state's pivotal Republican and Democratic presidential primaries.
Hamby joined CNN in 2005 as part of the team that launched The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. He spent two years as a producer and researcher for the show, contributing to the network's award-winning coverage of stories including Hurricane Katrina, the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, and the 2006 midterm elections.
Hamby earned a bachelor's degree in English from Georgetown University and a master's degree in journalism from New York University. He also studied at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Hamby was a Spring 2013 fellow at the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, where he authored a widely-circulated study on the impact of Twitter on media behavior and campaign press strategy.

OpenSimulator Community Conference Announces High Fidelity CEO Philip Rosedale as Keynote Speaker

August 29, 2014 - The OpenSimulator Community Conference is pleased to announce Philip Rosedale, Founder and CEO of High Fidelity, Inc. will be a keynote speaker at the second annual OpenSimulator Community Conference, scheduled to take place virtually on November 8-9, 2014 in a virtual conference center designed for the event.
Mr. Rosedale’s keynote presentation will address the question, “What is the Metaverse?” and discuss the opportunity to develop an open platform for virtual reality over the internet, including new hardware devices that catalyze entirely new kinds of interactions between avatars.

In 1995, Philip Rosedale created an innovative Internet video conferencing product (called "FreeVue"), which was later acquired by RealNetworks where in 1996 he went on to become Vice President and CTO. In 1999, Rosedale left RealNetworks, founded Linden Lab and built a virtual civilization called Second Life, fulfilling his lifelong dream of creating an open-ended, Internet-connected virtual world.

Since leaving Second Life in 2010, Rosedale has worked on several experiments in distributed work and computing, including Coffee & Power and Worklist.net. In 2013, he co-founded High Fidelity Inc. to explore the future of a next-generation virtual reality system.

“Philip Rosedale is one of the foremost thinkers about virtual reality and the Metaverse today,” said conference chair Chris Collins. “We look forward to hearing his thoughts on the next generation of open Metaverse platforms, including OpenSimulator.”

The OpenSimulator Community Conference is an annual conference that focuses on the developer and user community surrounding the OpenSimulator software, an open-source platform that supports the creation of collaborative, immersive, distributed and social 3D virtual environments.

Registration for the virtual OpenSimulator Community Conference is free and opens on September 15, 2014.  The conference will also be live
streamed through UStream.

Virtual Worlds Best Practices In Education 2013 Conference 2013-Beyond the Stage- Nomad Aries Reporting…

Over the span of July 24th to July 27th 2013, I attended one of the most eye opening and thought provoking events ever to convene on Second Life©, The Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education 6th Annual Conference. Each day was jam packed with exhibits, presentations, films and festivities. It was difficult to pick a specific event or presentation to attend. Some presentations were so popular that venues were filled to capacity.

Virtual Worlds Best Practices In Education Readies For Annual Conference- July 24th-July 27th Nomad Aries Reporting…

In the past I have written about the ways Second Life© has influenced the real world.

I have written about how Governments, the Justice System and the entertainment world is using Second Life to breach distance and time zones in order to reach as many people as possible with information, assistance and entertainment. Second Life has become an invaluable instrument helping people to access services, gain information and provide resolution to real life problems. It has become a workplace, an extension of offices and a global town hall providing services in real time to citizens across the globe. Second Life has also brought together individuals and organizations from around the world, making it easier for collaboration, sharing information and mentoring.

Recently, I learned of yet another important use of Second Life© - education. Education, learning and teaching are being expanded and explored in great depth here on Second Life. The technology of the gaming world is turning into an innovative tool for studying different teaching methods and defining what is teaching. Exploring the ways in which we learn and providing advances in technology, applications, research and access to information. Second Life© has become a global classroom. This month, one of the most extraordinary conferences will, once again, be held on Second Life©, The Virtual Worlds Best Practices In Education Conference. If you can attend one presentation of this conference over the three days it runs, I urge you to do so. You won't want to miss this.
