OUTLANDER MUSIC GROUP (OMG) AND CLUB: MUSIC AND A GOOD TIME FOR ALL - JOSH (THOMAS1 BELLIC) REPORTING. PHOTOGRAPHY BY AUGI (AUGUSTLILAC LUCKSTONE)

I was doing my thing the other day…hopping around various regions, just generally chillin and looking for fun places to go.  SL Enquirer provides their writers with a Fun Detector (FD), kinda like a dosimeter, it starts to click, louder and louder, the closer it gets to “fun”.  So I was cruzing around at about 900 meters, when all of a sudden, my FD started lighting up like a Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center.  I had found it, if my instrument was to be trusted.  I have found the Holy Grail of Fun.

I floated down to the dance floor below, not entirely sure what I would find, and I came upon Roxy the Red, and her partner in crime, J I N X Y.  They graciously agreed to pause in their labors and consented to an interview.

Josh (Thomas1 Bellic) (JB):    So Tell me.  Where did the idea of Outlander Music Group come from? come from?

Rory the Red (roryredrory) (RR):   We wanted to build a club where everyone was welcome and to pick a name that captured the fun and magic of having a club that our friends could enjoy and come to.  We named the club "Outlander Music Group" - OMG for short.  OMG is one of Jinx and my favorite words.  If you would search any exchange between us - you'll find "OMG" at least several times!

The word "Outlander" means a lot to me in many different ways.  I am Scottish-American and I'm a big fan of the show Outlander.  I love the historic imagery of Scotland and of the Stones and dancing. But I didn't want to base the club only on the show - but the theme of being an "Outlander".  We are all Outlanders in this crazy world that is SecondLife, and making it our own.

JB:       Who managed to put this thing together and what role did each person play?

RR:   Jinxy and I put the club together.  Jinxy did the build and design and I added a few decorations here and there. Jinxy always amazes me with her builds and creativity!!  My girl got skillz!!!  For me, the Outlander theme means Outsiders coming together in a place where no one is an outsider.  So, the imagery includes a Scottish landscape, Runes, and Kansas / Wizard of Oz.  I am from Kansas and who else is the ultimate outlander other than Dorothy from Kansas when she visits Oz!   We're not in Kansas anymore....

Also, Outlander wouldn’t be able to run without the incredible work, spirit, and fun brought by Paula Williams and Tiffany Williams!!  Paula and Tiffany are sisters and are our managers for the club!!  They are here on Thursday nights and always keep us laughing and smiling during the sets!!

JX:   Rory has excellent management and ability to get people together and extract their talents... So, she is a natural at doing all the organization. I spend my time now and then building for the club

JB:       Excuse me, but…is that an Elephant there?  Can we talk about the elephant in the room?  What is THAT all about?

RR:   That's Ellie our resident elephant!  She prefers to be addressed as "Ellie" or "Ms. Ellie".  She gets offended if she is ignored when people enter the room.  Just go ahead and address her right away and everything will be fine :-)

JX:   It is as you say, "let’s talk about the elephant in the room" Thats Rory’s sense of humor. She could carry on a conversation about anything. Let’s start with the elephant in the room, shall we?

JB:       I understand you have regular shows on Tuesday and Thursdays?  What type of music is played there?

RR:   Our dj's are all amazing and play a mix of dance music including EDM, House, Progressive, Funkie House, and more!!!  We leave it up to the dj's to choose the genre they play each week.  Nothing sounds better than "DJ's Choice" :-)

I love the dj's that play here!!! Our line-up on Tuesday starts at 5pm, and includes DJ Sia, Dj Savvy, DJ Picky, DJ Lisa Rose, and DJ Nele!

Our line-up on Thursday starts at 4pm, and includes DJ DanaCat, DJ Jan X, DJ Lau, DJ Kelsey, DJ Nell, and DJ Lukas!

JX:   We supply a pleasant fun atmosphere with some of SLs top DJs.  Each DJ plays whatever they like. Rory and I do now and then add a DJ we like to the lineup. Most of them are Rory’s connections

JB:       Sooooo…What kind of music will you feature and what kind of guest would enjoy OMG the most?

RR:   Our goal is to provide a wide mix of music and dj's! You'll hear different music every week!  Anyone who loves to hear and experience Live DJ's with others in a relaxed, friendly environment will enjoy their time here!!!

JB:       Tell us about some of the different areas on the property?

RR:   The property is a series of islands in a Scottish Lake surrounded by the Highlands!  All SL-style :-)  The areas include the OMG! Club, the OMG! Float-In Movie Theater, and the OMGHenge island, home to this year's "OMG! SpringFest" on March 26, 27, and 28th  We recently added the "Float-in Movie Theater" which shows some of our favorite movies!  All of the seating is around or in the pool!  Sometimes Jinxy and I will have a "pop up" movie event and send a notice to our OMG! group!  OMGHenge Island includes Stonehenge-like ruins on top of a green grassy island!  All 3 islands are connected and can be accessed by walking!

JX:   We seem to come up with new areas every few months. So currently we have the main club and just finishing "Spring Fest" we call it. At the end of March, we will be gathering together there Tues, Wed, and Thurs regularly. Then we also have the movie theater, with a swim pool and screen we show movies on

JB:       Just who is this “Outlander Annie” that I have heard so much about?

RR:   Annie is our resident mermaid! You can usually find her in the aquarium at the front of the OMG! Club, but she also likes to spend time in the lake! She is a veteran of SecondLife clubs, and has been with me at every club I have owned or managed.  She can be a handful, and can at times be outspoken, at times be quiet.  She is a very moody mermaid!  We love her and glad she makes OMG! her home!

JX:   she is a mystery to even me. I know she has a front row seat behind the stage, so she sees EVERTHING that goes on in the club 24/7. What happens after that “Stays in the Club”

JB:       I understand you are hosting a “SpringFest”.  Tell our readers about that, if you will?

RR:   We are celebrating the beginning of Spring with a "SpringFest" March 26, 27, and 28th!  We will have an outdoor festival on our "OMGHenge Island" with Spring grass and flowers, rides, and an awesome outdoor stage with your favorite DJ's!!!! We are usually open on Tuesdays and Thursdays,  however, will be open Wednesday that week for a special SpringFest line-up including DJ Bloo, DJ Soa, and DJ Pandora!!!  Happy Spring!!!

JX:   SpringFest comes from the mind off Rory. She is always coming up with something FUN and SpringFest is all about that. You will have to come and see for yourself

JB:       Do you have any plans for future development?

RR:   We love celebrating the various seasons and holidays and plan to have some themed events in the future related to Summer, Halloween, Christmas and others!  So please check back for future announcements from OMG!  You can always check our schedule at www.outlandermusicgroup.com!

JX:   We plan on adding more DJs and adding more days the club will be open. We have a surprise for SL dancers coming in the summer. Stay tuned to see.

JB:       Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

JX:   Your readers are our dancers. We listen to what you say and do our best to make OMG O M G!! Providing the best in music and in a fun atmosphere

RR:   Support Live DJ's and Live Music on SL, whether it's at our club, another club, or through live events!  Music brings us together and is the reason I joined SL - to hear the bands and dj's that are here!

Kick up those boots and dance! -Awesome Country Music Venues in Second Life -Hazel Silvermoon reporting…

Sunday is always a relaxing day for me, and exploring music in Second Life is always new and exciting. It really is one of the best ways to spend the evening, and I did just that. I traveled around to seek out some of the best Country music venues I could find, and as usual, the grid did not disappoint. So grab your hat, put on your finest pair of boots, and get ready to hit the dance floor!

Jared’s Wildcat Country

I started off strong at Jared’s Wildcat Country. The music was great, and the DJ played a  wide variety of Country hits, as well as a mix of songs that aren’t heard on the radio normally. I love this because it gives us a chance to hear songs we may not have heard otherwise! The atmosphere was really friendly, and I felt like family! It really is a great place to dance the night away!

Jared’s Wildcat Country: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Wildcat%20Country/186/128/26

Kickin Boots

My second stop was Kickin Boots. Located inside a large red barn, it really gives off that country vibe. I was greeted immediately upon entering the sim, and everyone was warm and friendly. The music was upbeat and really made you want to get out there and shake it! (Which is exactly what I did!) I would definitely give this venue a 10/10 . It is a great place for a party! I especially loved the DJ at this Club, because he was funny, and kind , and greeted us all on voice, which is rare, but it really makes you feel special!

Tennessee Whiskey Country Club

I have to say that if I could pick a favorite of the night, Tennessee Whiskey Country Club would take that spot. Not only was the vibe very relaxed, they played some of my favorite Country tunes. I am a fan of  90’s country, and I got to hear some really amazing music here. It brought me back to my childhood and gave me that nostalgic feeling. It was truly a great place to kick back and forget that Monday is right around the corner!

Blue Ridge Country

Blue Ridge Country was a really enjoyable place to be! The Host was amazing, and very fun to interact with. Upon entry, you are greeted with excitement, and given many dance options to choose from. They played a great variety of Country from different decades, and this made it easy to want to stay all night! You never knew what song was coming next, but all of them were awesome! This is a really great Club if you are looking for a very laid back feel.  They had the most dance options , which makes it easy to bring your loved ones along with you for a night of fun.

Rodeo Nightclub

My last stop of the night was the Rodeo Nightclub.

It was a very charming little spot. Upon entering the SIM, you walk up a stone path surrounded by trees and horses. Rodeo Nightclub has a log cabin sort of feel, and these combined elements really give you that country sensation. The staff was friendly and enthusiastic . This made me feel happy to be in the venue , as it was easy to make friends. There was a variety of both Country and Country-Rock tunes, which was a nice change of pace! I really enjoyed my time at Rodeo Nightclub, and will definitely be returning!

No matter which of the listed venues you choose, you are sure to have an amazing night filled with great music, and a friendly crowd of folks to have a conversation with! So if you love Country music, be sure to give one of these Clubs a try!

Sledding- Stacey Cardalines Reporting...

Winter can be a drag in the real world, with freezing cold temperatures, driving on ice and all that. It is important to remember that it is also a season of fun, especially when you factor in sledding. January and February need not be a season of misery. You just have to know where to go to find fun winter things to do. Enter Stacey...

Sledding is a lot like her cousin, skiing, but sledding is easier to do. Skiing involves buying a bunch of gear and driving up to Vermont to go to the mountains. Sledding can be done in your hometown (if your hometown has snow) with a sled you got for $9.99 at Target. You don't have to buy a ridiculous spandex bodysuit to go sledding, although I did so.

I have an image to uphold, and I also wanted to dress brightly so the St. Bernard dogs could find me in whatever snowbank I sledded into. I then went off in search of somewhere to go sledding.

I went to a place called Brave Island, which has the Wonderful Winter Wonderland theme going, at least for the season. I had the place to myself, although I keep odd hours and the place might be jammed during different parts of the day. Either way, I went to the top of the mountain and got ready for some downhill work. It took me a while to find the sledding part, but you are most likely less stupid than I and would probably fare better in a search.

Brave Island provides the sled for you, a simple one for a single sledder and a team bobsled (?) type for couples or very good friends. Once you sit on it, you start heading downhill. You get a good ride, not too fast. The ride could be a little longer, but you can extend it somewhat by sledding through the non-sledding parts of the sim. It's very impolite, but I was there by myself, and someone had to do it.

I would estimate that I got going 35 mph or so, which is like 70 kph for all you Europeans reading this. I never quite figured out how to stop, other than crashing into something that halted my forward progress. I used a head-first sledding methodology, as I'd rather crack my head than break both legs and maybe the ol' Five Hole as well.

Sledding into a wall is usually the worst-case scenario, but the other sledding sim that I tried out- one with a mammoth luge-style elevated track- actually saw me fail to negotiate a curve and sled off the sim into whatever passes for outer space in SL. I actually had a picture of me doing so, but I was very small in it and would have been unrecognizable without the caption.

I did think of a sport that I would like to try... Sled Bowling with humans! Line ten people up in Candlepin formation at the bottom of a hill, go to the top of the hill, come down heavy on the sled and see how many people you can deck. It's got speed, exotic settings, violence, humor and appeals to a wealthy demographic... what's not to like?

I'll have to get Lanai to pay me enough to hire ten models to act as bowling pins, but I think I can make a go of it. Some clever animator will have to make an animation that mimics pins falling. Who knows? Maybe I can give up journalism and feed myself by running a Human Sled Bowling operation. It might be illegal in the US. Someone told me to maybe try Indonesia.

There was no NBA or NFL 150 years ago, and now you can't turn on the TV without seeing someone dunking or throwing a touchdown pass. Who's to say Human Sled Bowling won't catch on in a similar manner?

The fun thing about SL is that Human Sled Bowling probably exists somewhere, perhaps in BDSM form. I just haven't been crafty enough to find it... yet.

Inworld Employment-Your Guide to finding a job in Second Life and keeping it-Hazel Silvermoon Reporting…

Second Life is a fascinating platform with many opportunities that fit every lifestyle. From visiting faraway places, to shopping at your favorite boutique, every new adventure is just a click away. One of these many opportunities is the chance for inworld employment. Not only does this fulfill our need to be more active in our virtual community, it gives us a chance to earn currency like we would working in real life. But, how do we obtain a job in Second Life, and more importantly, what are some tips for keeping it? Read this guide to find out!

Finding a Job

Second Life Forums

There are plenty of places we can look when searching for employment in Second Life. Once you have determined your desired field of work, you can start by checking the Second life forums: (located on secondlife.com under the community tab.) Once you find the forums tab, scroll down and you will see a section called: “Commerce Forum”. Under this section, you will see another subsection titled: “Inworld Employment.” You can then click on the link to find several potential employers for various jobs. Make sure to read the entire listing carefully before applying for any job. This will allow you to ensure that you are applying correctly. This will give you a much better chance at landing an interview!

Job Agencies

If forums are not your thing, or you prefer a more realistic experience, there are job agencies in Second Life as well. You can visit any of these agencies to find out what employment opportunities are available. After exploring several, I found that Top Job Agency was the place with the most active employment boards.

Upon entering Top Job Agency, you will find a multitude of ad boards advertising work that is currently available. Simply click on the ad for the job you wish to apply for, and you will receive a folder with notes and instructions for applying. You can then follow the instructions provided to submit your applications. The Jobs are divided by category.

If you need more options, other great places to look for virtual jobs are: employment groups, and Facebook and Twitter groups as well. There are an extensive number of clubs, stores, and real estate companies that have a Facebook page or Twitter feed. You can then follow these feeds to the main website for these creators. Many of them have applications that you can fill out right on the main page.

Punctuality and Dressing for Success

After finding our dream job listing, it is time to get serious. After submitting your application, it is important to dress for the job we want. Take time to think about what you might be required to wear based on the job you are applying for. Choose outfits that suit those needs. Make sure that if the job requires business attire, that you don’t show up in a t-shirt, as this may give any potential employers the wrong first impression!

Another important thing to remember is: always be punctual. Show up at least 15 minutes early for any interviews, or the beginning of any shifts. This shows your eagerness to obtain or keep your job. It allows your employer to see that you are dedicated to your workplace, and will allow you to open yourself up for potential advancements or promotions.

Proper Conduct

Once we land a job in Second Life, we want to make sure that we keep it! To do so, we must follow a few simple rules to make sure that we are the best employee we can be. They are as follows:

Be a team player

While most employers do understand that work-life balance is important, it is also important that you are dedicated to them as well. Be willing to listen to any ideas your teammates or supervisors may have. Be prepared to work together alongside others, and to be receptive to change and new ways to work in a group.

Respect Others
Remember, a little respect goes a long way. Be sure to be courteous and kind to your employer, all other team members, and any clients you may have. Being courteous and showing respect to others is crucial in any job setting. It allows us to get along with our coworkers, superiors, and clients, and will make for a positive work experience. Afterall, a happy client is a client for life! Also, in showing respect, your coworkers will always have a fun and positive workplace experience!

Focus, Dedication, and Clarity

There are a few final things to remember when working any job. First and foremost, real life does come first. If something does come up, make sure to contact your employer ahead of time, so they may cover your shift and the company can continue to run smoothly. This is both respectful and responsible.

Secondly, make sure to stay focused while on the Job. Avoid outside distractions and all private DMS to friends (unless it is necessary or an emergency.) Be present, and stay present.

The Third and final thing to remember is: be clear with your employer. Make sure that you state your intentions before hire, and continue to maintain frequent communication throughout your employment. Be sure to provide your availability and communicate your desires so that there is no confusion as to when you are able to work, and what the expectations are.

Even though getting a job and keeping it can seem intimidating, working in Second Life should be fun and rewarding. Remember, like any job in real life, you should do what you love, and love what you do. There is something for everyone here, and the opportunity to dream big is yours for the taking. So get out there and find your passion!

XSPACE BY BETTY TUREAUD & AI- An interactive region Space and Art - Tabitha Mercury reporting

What started out as a challenge Betty Tureaud set for herself, XSPACE is a treat for the senses. Yes, I say senses because in each display there are sounds and visual stimulants, minimum.

Ok that was new…

Upon arrival I was greeted with some bots and it was explained to me that a special HUD has been attached for navigating the sim with.

And if you know me, you know that…I started clicking away!

Oh wow, that opened a new menu to a new area? Ok…Oh goodness, where to start? I looked forward to meeting Betty Tureaud and meeting the brilliant mind behind this intense and extensive installation.

We arrived at a landing point, surrounded by blackness, with a very colorful doorway and I introduced myself to Betty. Wasting no time, she led me directly to a space frog in the colorful room and asked me to please sit on it. I was immediately teleported into another colorful room with…Betty Bot!

Upon arrival I was greeted with the following:

[11:29] INFO: whispers: Say hi to Betty Bot Betty Tureaud

[11:30] Tabitha Mercury: hi

[11:31] Tabitha Mercury: hi Betty Bot Betty Tureaud

[11:31] Betty Bot: Hello there, Tabitha Mercury! How can I make your day a little brighter today?

[11:31] Betty Tureaud: ok who is betty tureaud

[11:31] Betty Bot: Well, Betty Tureaud is a renowned Danish artist known for her vibrant and innovative artworks. Her works often incorporate elements of technology, light, and sound to create immersive and interactive experiences. She has exhibited her art globally and is recognized for pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms. Anything specific you'd like to know about Betty Tureaud or any other artists? I'm here to help with a twist of humor!

Tabitha Mercury: So not only are you artistic, you are also very technical it seems, how were you able to make this bot interact like that?

Betty Tureaud: I built it with a friend, Blaise, we made an API to open AI…we made it to interact with ChatGTP.

I was then directed to the next space frog to teleport into the next realm. There were six space frogs in all to discover new realms with. Many interactive with touch, sounds, and sights that can keep anyone occupied for hours. Each one distinct and intricately made. All of them are strikingly beautiful to experience.

Tabitha Mercury: What inspired the combination of so many different ways to interact with the installation?

Betty Tureaud: it was a competition with myself

Tabitha Mercury: a challenge for yourself, then? ok

Betty Tureaud: yes

Tabitha Mercury: Well, how does it feel to have accomplished such an intricate and tactile exhibit?

Betty Tureaud: smiles

Betty Tureaud: there is always new frontiers

Betty Tureaud: haha

Tabitha Mercury: haha you are quite relentless in your pursuit of art and technology

Betty Tureaud: my next installation will include PBR and mirrors

Tabitha Mercury: ooooo

Next, Betty teleported me to a new location, THE SACRED MONOLITHS, where I clicked a box to get a new HUD that attached itself along the bottom of my viewer. This one listed 9 objects which were the locations for these exhibits. And so the new adventure began, while I was still processing the absolute awe I had for the XSPACE one I had just been shown.

Tabitha Mercury: How long did this take to accomplish?

Betty Tureaud: about 30 days

Tabitha Mercury: what?!

Tabitha Mercury 's eyes grow wide so she doesn't look half Korean anymore

Tabitha Mercury: wow

Tabitha Mercury: just wow

Betty Tureaud: haha

Betty once again led me on a tour that was a feast for my eyes, ears, and wave of the mouse. These nine destinations have so much to explore and see.

As we traveled through them and Betty politely directed me what to do in each realm, I realized all the hard work that went into the idea of this and then the hard work that followed to make it a reality. This quite simply is amazing.

Some tips for first-timers…Use the HUD which attaches itself upon arrival to navigate to the XSPACE installation. It kind of looks like it says HSPACE. This will be where you will meet the space frogs who will direct your journey through XSPACE. Sit on a space frog and experience everything this installation has to offer by sliding your volume on all sounds up. Make sure you have the highest graphics settings possible as the installations also rely on EEP.

To get to the other installation that is featured on this sim by Betty Tureaud you will want to teleport to this destination: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Akimitsu/16/122/2374

Upon arrival, click the rotating cube for the TP HUD to explore Betty’s installation!

In closing, these installations are fantastic to explore and experience. I highly suggest it when you have some time to spare. You won’t get it all done in one trip, unless you are being guided on a quick tour by Betty, like I experienced. You are going to want to take your time going through this, and like me, probably come back a few times to explore certain favorites, deeper.
