Woodstock Redux at Rockin' Robin's - August 13th-14th

Woodstock was a music festival held in 1969, August 15-19, in upstate New York. It featured 32 bands, including many heavy hitters of the time such as Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, CCR, Janis Joplin and Sly And The Family Stone. For those of you who aren't 74 years old, it was basically what K-Tel had in mind when they made Freedom Rock, man.

Widely considered to be the cultural apex of the 1960s, you old people better have a good story as to why you missed it, like "I was giving birth to a future Yuppie" or "I was in Vietnam, letting the people know my wisdom."  Well over 400,000 people attended, at a time when you could still see first-ballot Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame players like Led Zeppelin or The Doors in a 100-seat nightclub.

If you ever saw a guy playing a really discordant National Anthem on his guitar, it was Woodstock. If you've ever heard the expression, "Don't eat the brown acid," that also came from Woodstock. Snoopy's pal Woodstock is named for the festival, even though he predates it by 2 years. It's what the song "Woodstock" ("By the time we got to Woodstock, we were half a million strong") by CSNY is about.

It was an odd show. Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, and the Doors all declined. The Beatles were scheduled to headline but refused when the organizers wouldn't give Yoko Ono's band a slot on the schedule. The Rolling Stones couldn't be bothered. Jimi Hendrix's lead-in was 50s novelty act Sha Na Na. Bob Dylan, who lived in Woodstock, chose not to play. Santana debuted there. Bands such as Quill and the Keef Hartley Band made the big stage, played to a half million people, and then faded back into obscurity. Ariana Grande's parents weren't even born yet. There were two births, three deaths, and over 700 drug overdoses.

It rained half the time, it was very muddy, there were a lot of smelly hippies around, and it is still instantly recognizable 50+ years later. you can say "Altamont" or "Monterey Pop Festival" to someone younger than 70 and they won't know what you are talking about. They will know, instantly, what Woodstock was.

Naturally, someone on SL decided to celebrate the anniversary. Rockin' Robin, an old friend of this column, has decided to commemorate the Hippie Haji  with a weekend-long show at her sim.

The shows run from August 13 through the 14th, Saturday and Sunday, 24 hours a day. They have a full slate of nine bands scheduled, and the dress theme is Counterculture. Look like a hippie. If you're not that old, try to look like young Robert Plant. If you're not THAT old, try to look like you're going to a rave.

You can take some LSD if you wish. I'm not sure if they have LSD on SL. I know they have weed, because I have some, and I know they have crack pipes because I have one. LSD, which is served on a small piece of chemically-soaked paper, would be hard to translate into the virtual world.

I took LSD when I was in high school. I just laughed for 9 hours and was endlessly fascinated by things like colorful posters and- for a strange half hour- a rubber duck. If I took it in a strange place with a half million people running around, I'd either be 1) dead or 2) still wandering around upstate New York, trying to find some cookies.

In case your 1960s knowledge is a bit jumbled, the National Guard won't murder you here. That was Kent State, a year later.

Be sure to pop in....

The Basilica@ Shamus bay has tons to offer!

Brief History: (Opened Officially August 6th, 2022)

**More Exhaustive History: In the Golden age of Piracy, one Pirate stood out among the many. chased relentlessly by the Spanish and English navies, and even occasionally by the new American Colonial Navy, Being chased for weeks, Captain Shamus H. Wrigglesworth took refuge in a small uncharted bay. Scouring the island, all he and his crew found was an old monastery and mission. Neither were occupied so, as pirates will, they made it their own. Capt. Shamus shamelessly named the area Shamus Bay and conducted many years of raids and very “piratey” things from his bay. Always able to get away and hide, Capt. Shamus made quite a comfortable living. As will happen, the island grew in inhabitants and reluctantly grew and changed with the times. When Capt. Shamus died (or has he?), and his family and remaining crew buried all of the treasure he had accumulated somewhere on the island. Generations passed and one day when rummaging through the remains of the old Mission, a distant relative of Capt. Shamus H Wrigglesworth, his Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Grandson, Shamus W. Wrigglesworth, discovered the entire fortune and treasure that had been carefully hidden so many years before. Being a partier and having no sense of how to save money, Shamus immediately commissioned builders to build the largest nightclub anyone has ever seen.

Dominating the landscape atop the highest point on the island, the Basilica Dance Club and Live Venue were born! It’s rumored that Shamus has hidden away the rest of the loot he found, but looking around the island, you can see his frivolous spending and it makes you wonder if he is rich or flat broke! Either way, Shamus Bay thrives on and The Basilica is the hottest nightclub destination around! Welcome to Shamus Bay **Shamus Bay Rental Info: There are several rentals available here in the Bay. The rental office (White building) is on the docks and has all of the current properties available. Feel free to contact Shamus Bay Staff if you have ANY questions about rentals. All Properties come with a security orb or you may use your own. **Shamus Bay Retail: Are you a creator or retailer? Well, do we have a deal for you! SPOTLIGHT ON THE ECLIPSE RESTAURANT– A FEW MORE SELECTIONS FOR YOUR DINING EXPERIENCE- ELY CATRONIS REPORTING

This past May, we visited The Eclipse restaurant to take in the exquisite experience they had to offer through their various fine dining experiences. I recently had the chance to stop back over and sit down and talk about the new opportunities and additions they have.

EC (Ely Catronis):  Hello Alassra! It is wonderful to meet you and to experience your exquisite fine dining experience here. I know that we have been here before.  Would you mind sharing with our readers what drew you specifically into the fine dining and restaurant business?

Alassra (xAlassrax): Hello Ely!  Thank you so much for being here today and it's wonderful to meet you as well!  That is a great question!  I was drawn to the fine dining and restaurant business because partaking in that experience has been one of my favorite experiences so far for me in SL.  I fell in love with the RP dining in SL from the moment I first booked a reservation at Serendipity Restaurant, and that was one of the big reasons I started working there too!  It was such an amazing experience for me!  Unfortunately, they closed their doors this past March, and at that point, I saw the void that was going to be left, and myself and some others decided to work together to try to fill that space as best we could!  We wanted everyone in SL to still have that amazing fine dining, roleplay experience!

EC: The last time the SL Enquirer was here you had 3 Amazing venues, the beach, the forest, and the more formal/elegant venue. We are told you added more to the Eclipse dining experience and have great news to share. Can you tell us about that?

Alassra (xAlassrax):  Definitely!  We have a lot of news!  We have added 2 new venues and several new packages!   We recently sponsored the Kappa Theta Phi: Mr. & Ms. Aloha Showcase that ran from the 4th - 7th of this month.  We are also taking part in the Spoonful of Sugar Festival in Sept. and will be having a new package only available there and 100% of the price goes to SOS!

EC: It sounds like you are SL Community Sponsors around the grid. Can you tell us a little more about the Exclusive New Package at the Spoonful of Sugar Festival?

Alassra (xAlassrax): I would love to!  Our Exclusive Package for the Spoonful of Sugar Festival will be something different than our current packages because, unlike our other packages, this one will be more of a 'public' dining experience package!  We have several tables set up in a very special location. They are a beautiful "Aloha" Hawaiian type of theme fitting the festival theme this year, and unlike our other packages, we will allow immediate "walk-in" dining after the package is purchased at the festival!  This means a client can purchase the Luau package at the SOS festival, immediately head to the LM provided inside of it, and be seated with their party to begin their dining experience!

EC:  That sounds amazing. You mentioned you have several new packages.  Can you briefly tell us about them and where can we find out about them?

Alassra (xAlassrax): Of course!  We felt that we were missing some areas to expand on, as well as potential ways to allow our staff to show off their skills more with the base packages we offered, so we came up with several additional packages to further enhance our services!  We have a package tailored for those who love capturing moments by photograph, which gives them a mini photoshoot with their dinner reservation!  We also have a package that is aimed at those not as much into the full dining experience, but who love the personal DJ aspect, so it provides them with a 30-minute drinks & appetizers meal, and then they have an hour and a half to dance the night away with up to 6 people in their party!  We even added a Bed & Breakfast package for clients who want to have a beautiful and very private, more casual dining experience!  Oh and let's not forget our Spa package!  This one is my favorite because it is PERFECT for the day or night out with friends/family/etc!  It gives unlimited drinks & appetizers served to you and your party while you experience our amazing Dragon's Dream Spa services!  Full details on each new package can be found on our website located here - https://xalassrax.wixsite.com/deviantsims/eclipse-packages

EC: The Eclipse atmosphere is already so gorgeous with nature, waterfalls, and lighting. You briefly mentioned that you are looking to expand Eclipse.  What more can you add to what you already have?

Alassra (xAlassrax): I am so glad you asked Ely!  We actually do have HUGE news on this front!  We officially closed the deal Sunday afternoon (August 8) on this expansion, so it is OFFICIAL!!  Eclipse has taken over Cova Restaurant!  I am not sure how many of your readers are familiar with Cova, but it was this AMAZING restaurant and resort located on the mainland that was owned and operated by Caleb & Kali Colton.  It is beautiful and the restaurant is set up inside of a cave!!  We did not want to see SL lose this amazing restaurant experience, so Eclipse decided to take it on as an expansion!  It is now the Eclipse Restaurant & Events - Kaneana Cavern dining experience!  It will provide 'walk-in' immediate dining options, as well as reservations, and another amazing and unique aspect is we will be able to fly or sail our clients in from the airport or public dock locations on the mainland!  This expansion is also Moderate in rating, therefore it provides a more family-friendly environment for those with kids!  And an amazing mini golf course that can be enjoyed after dinner or while you wait to be seated!

EC:  Congratulations!  While on the tour around the sim, I noticed a few other activities, shops, and private places.  Can you tell us a little more about them?

Alassra (xAlassrax):  I sure can!  The Deviant Dragon Sim not only houses Eclipse Restaurant but it also is the home to the Dragon's Tail Tavern, which is an amazing biker-themed bar located along the Dragon's Tail Track!  We have several regular live singers performing there each month, and we are always looking for DJs and hosts to take up some of our open set times as well!  We have a mall that is accepting rentals for anyone looking for a place to set up shop!  The Dragon's Dream - Reiki & Tarot Spa is also located next to the mall, and we have several packages and ala carte spa services available there!  We have mini golf, bumper cars, an Escape Room, a roller coaster at the start of the track, and a wonderfully fun 80's themed Skating arcade also located along the track!!  There is so much to do and enjoy on the Sim, so we definitely encourage guests to explore!

EC: Do you have a niche or role that needs to be filled?

Alassra (xAlassrax): We do!  We are currently running our August Amore special event this month and we need participants!!  Think of August Amore as Tinder meets Blind Date meets Speed Dating!  We are offering anyone interested the chance to get to know others in SL risk-free!!  Whether you are looking for love, or just companionship and connections, we welcome anyone to sign up and participate!  The only time there is a fee is IF a participant decides they want to actually meet one of the other participants, and our fees for this are very reasonable, lower than our regular dinner for 2 packages!  We have a "meet & greet" 30-minute option which includes the roleplay server providing drinks & appetizers for the 30-minute time frame at only 750L$, or a full 1-hour 3-course roleplay dinner which is only 1000L$!  We wanted to provide a wonderful way for people to meet each other on SL in a unique and different way than just going to a club or a dating service.  So we for sure need participants signing up for this!  We have several ladies signed up and definitely need more men!  Also are definitely hiring!  We have a huge need for Sales Reps., Dining Hosts, Servers, Photographers, and DJ's!

EC: Thank you for your time today. Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers?

Alassra (xAlassrax): I feel like we've covered so much, Ely!  Yet it always seems like there's so much more still not addressed!  I mainly would like to encourage your readers to check out our August Amore event and sign up for it!  Details on it can be found here - https://xalassrax.wixsite.com/deviantsims/august-amore-event

I would also like to tell your readers to keep an eye out for our SOS Festival package in Sept., and other special packages that will be coming up for Halloween and more!!  We have a lot of awesome things planned to come!  And even though I have mentioned this already, I want to again express our need for more amazing members to join our staff team!  Especially with our new expansion!  Applications can be found here - https://forms.gle/AqgY3uGhEMJ8oMA59

LUXE Paris has found its new ambassador: JADE PONO WINS!

It is Jade Pono, an experienced model renowned for her professionalism and her style woven with ardor and femininity, who won over the LOOK of the YEAR jury during the grand final Sunday.

PHOTOS: MONÏ

It took a long time for Jade to realize that she had just been elected LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR!

“When Mika Palmyra announced that she was going to reveal the name of the winner, someone in the crowd shouted Nikki You got that! so I thought, cool, it's Nikki, now I'm going to be able to go rest because I haven't slept for two nights, I was so feverish,'' tells Jade with emotion.

''But I was getting all kinds of weird messages...and the coordinator was asking me to go in front! I was totally confused... Until I saw the crown arriving in my inventory!''

Japanese living in Hawaii, Jade Pono has been a professional virtual model for five years.

''Short in real life, I wanted a second life as a great tall top model so I got to work, combining training and participating in as many fashion shows as possible to gain experience.
''Today I am member of 25 agencies and on some Saturdays, I have three shows in a row!''

The new LUXE Paris ambassador received L$50,000 in cash, an elegant tiara created for her by Zuri Rayna and another L$50,000 in gift cards from LUXE Paris, ZURI Jewellery, In-Nova Modeling Academy, Swank & Co, ProPose Modeling Poses and Visionaire Photo Institute.

The runners up
HUNIPET & LATHILDA

In the wake of Jade, also very stylish and remarkable on the runway, another highly reputable experienced model, Hunipet Delicioso, 1st runner up, and a student model, a new star, Lathilda, 2nd runner up.

The two runners-up each received L$10,000 in cash, a ZURI tiara and over L$15,000 in gift cards.

The three LOOK of the YEAR winners will also appear in several reports in The SL Enquirer and in the magazines SL Confidencial, SL20 and LUXE Paris.

A SPECTACULAR FINAL

It's a colorful show that the 12 finalists delivered in their last LOOK of the YEAR challenge. On a grandiose stage created by Parisian Skytower, co-owner LUXE Paris, the great 12 took us on a journey around the world by interpreting, in turn, a particular look inspired by one of the 12 most important fashion capitals of the planet.

In our fantasy world, Rihanna, Cher and Madonna, three of the world’s biggest fashion icons, created the Global Fashion Ball to benefit hungry children. At their head table, 12 elegant women diplomats representing the 12 most important fashion capitals of the planet, the 12 LOOK of the YEAR finalists!

Each of the finalists was asked to prepare a formal look representing the fashion style of a particular capital. The 12 greatest fashions capitals were selected according to the latest Global Fashion & Luxury Cities Index (Nov 2021) and assigned to the finalists randomly.

And all the finalists shone, admirably capturing the fashion essence of each of the capitals and arousing an extremely close vote.

A JURY of 13 FASHION
& MEDIA PERSONALITIES

Finalists had to present an outfit made up of LUXE Paris clothing and ZURI jewellery and have received for this, generous gift cards from both brands. The LOOK of the YEAR contest is the only style competition on the grid which subsidizes its finalists.

The jury was made up of 13 personalities from the fashion and media worlds: Parisian Skytower & Mika Palmyra,
LUXE Paris owners, Zuri Rayna, owner and designer Zuri Jewelry, Valsnia, LOOK of the YEAR 2021-2022, Ponchituti Boucher, legendary top model, co-owner of One On One Agency and owner ProPose Modeling Poses, Frolic Mills, another virtual fashion legend who practically invented the industry in Second Life and the owner of the new SL20 magazine, Lanai Jarrico, owner of The SL Enquirer, , Adonis Lubomir, owner of Swank Events and Womenstuff group, Chema K, owner of SL Confidencial magazine, Ava Jhamin, co-owner The A-List and L'Amour Productions, Stephano Del Piero, teacher at In-Nova Model Training Academy, Consuela Blanche, manager Visionaire Photo Institute, Virgo, manager of the Latin Quarter.

The judges have awarded a score to each finalist by evaluating the accuracy and originality of their interpretation of their fashion capital as well as the presence of LUXE Paris and ZURI elegance. They also evaluated the finalists stage presence and charisma. The scores allocated during this last challenge were added to those of the first challenge, which took place ten days ago on the theme DECADES of FASHION 1950-2020. It is the sum that determined the winner.

SURPRISE!
VALSNIA LAUNCHES
HER 1st COLLECTION

As soon as the FASHION CAPITALS challenge was over, Mika Palmyra, the other owner-designer of LUXE Paris, left de judges' lounge to proceed with the compilation of the votes. Usually a long and boring moment, this waiting period turned into magic tho as Valsnia, outgoing LOOK of the YEAR winner, surprised the crowd with the launch of her first collection for LUXE Paris!

Suddenly, the majestic runway decked out of gold and onyx disappeared to give way to a magical Hindu garden. Five top models from One On One Agency, ZosiaAura, Memole, Miso, Tiy and Sholy, appeared as so many mysterious goddesses... This is because Valsnia's new collection pays homage to her country, India.

"I married traditional fabrics from my own real-life wardrobe with today's styles and cuts to show the two sides of India, its fondness for the past and its modernity," says Valsnia.

Among the traditional fabrics used, Valsnia's wedding dress and that of her mother.

SHOCKED
JADE COULDNT FIND
HER WORDS

The presentation of the collection ''LUXE Paris COLORS of INDIA by Valsnia'' was immediately followed by the long-awaited highlight of the event, the crowning of the new LOOK of the YEAR, Jade Pono, and of the runners-up Hunipet Delicioso and Lathilda.

Jade was so shocked that it took her long minutes before she could find her words to thank the judges, the organization and her supporters. On the VPC, the models' private communication system when they are on stage, the show's coordinator, Lali Arbizu, was begging Jade to break the silence...

''I just couldn't believe it'', Jade exclaims.
''I still cant believe it'', she added, 48 hours later.

Sa soeur Morgan
l'a inspirée

This is the second year that Jade has taken part in the LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR competition. Chosen in the semi-finals last year, she had not been selected for the final and here she is the big winner! What happened? What changed?

“What a tough question,” Jade comments with a laugh. ''I think it was my sister Morgan Incognito who inspired me. I so wanted her to be proud of me!

Morgan, Jade's virtual sister, also Japanese in RL, is a celebrity in the fashion world both for her qualities as a top model and for her involvement in many projects to improve the world such as her I SAY NO campaign benefiting RAINN, the Rape Abuse & Incest National Network.

Jade also thinks the LOOK of the YEAR mentoring team and the training she received in her early days at Naar Rexen's In-Nova Academy played a big role.

THE BEST PART:
THE MENTORING CLASSES!

"These mentorship classes and seminars with legendary supermodel Ponchitutti Boucher were the best part of the competition," she says feistily.
''It's worth millions of dollars to me!
''As for the school that introduced me to modeling, In-Nova, it is an extremely serious and very demanding institution!
''I even learned the basics of design there, which allowed me to create a cape to highlight my LUXE Paris dress for the final!''

Obviously, no one will be surprised to learn that Jade would like to continue her design apprenticeship within the LUXE Paris team. To be continued!

You regret missing the LOOK of the YEAR grand final?

Tally Mercury Spotlight Interview - Angelina Lerintzo Reporting

LINKS AND CONTACT INFO UPDATED: 8/8/22

Original Post Date: March 17, 2021

Tally Mercury is from Wales, UK - born and raised and still currently there. According to him a “little country next to England.”

He stated that “We even have our own language - Welsh (Cymraeg) - One of the oldest languages in the world.”

Subsequently, Angelina Lerintzo asked, “How would you describe your personality in cymraeg?”

Mercury replied, “hah I Don't speak it well enough - but let me try.”

“Rwy'n ddyn hwyliog a cherddoriaeth yw fy mywyd” which means “I am a fun guy and Music is my life.”

Additionally, he said, “I don’t speak it well- although my children are fluent.”

Angelina Lerintzo (AL): How did you first start in the music scene in RL growing up and what musical instruments do you play? How did you end up becoming a second life singer and musician? What’s your story?

Tally Mercury: Where I grew up you had limited options for hobbies lol. You either played rugby, did drugs, or played music - or a combination of all three. Music was my first love - I cheated on her with rugby, but came back, and I never fancied drugs lol. - I grew up in Church too, so there was always lots of opportunity to sing and play instruments. I also played in a Brass Band as a teenager. I've played lots of instruments, but always loved the guitar. Wish I was better at it. SL singing happened after me not singing or playing for around 6 years. Then I went through a divorce and made some good friends in here. I got lost often in listening to music, and then one day I was listening to Stone Sour and I thought - "I can sing this!" - and I sang and played it to some friends in SL - then they talked me into doing a small set at a club, but they went and invited a manager - Ryleigh Sorbet - and that was that - she wouldn't let me not do it lol.

AL: What artists and musicians are your sources of inspiration in RL or SL when it comes to writing music and influencing your craft? Do you have any favorite quotes from a favorite singer/musician and what does that quote mean to you?

Tally Mercury: My influences change all the time. But some that are always around are Jeff Buckley, Bon Iver, Nothing But Thieves, London Grammar and even stuff like Tedeschi Trucks Band. In SL, I have been influenced by Phemie and Skye - but also tried to find my own way a bit and not be like others here. I do have favorite quotes, Toby Mac "Music takes words to a place that words can't go on their own". And “To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable.” - Ludwig van Beethoven

AL: What genres of music did you play growing up or have dabbled with and how is it different from what you play now?

Tally Mercury: When I was young, I loved Elvis sooo much haha - all my friends were into Michael Jackson - and I was rockin out to Elvis! haha - but seriously - I loved funk, Gospel, RnB in my younger years, and then got into Rock music as a teenager and that passion has never left me. I feel now I have chilled out a lot more though, so I like more chilled electronic music like Bon Iver, London Grammar, RY X, and a fair bit of Synth Wave music like The Midnight. So I feel that influences my performance and writing style more - mixed in with Radiohead and Jeff Buckley styles. Gah - none of that makes sense lol - I have such an eclectic taste in music and it changes all the time lol but my performing and writing style tends to stay the same.

AL: Can you list all the songs that you’ve written that you’ve performed that has a significant impact on your life? What are the stories behind each song that you wrote?

Tally Mercury: -"Hold On" was the first single we released with my band Neon-Fiction - I wrote it for my youngest son - I started singing it to him when I would put him to bed - it is just a prayer almost that he will always find safety at home, and that as his father, I will always be therefor him - That I am the safest place he will ever have. - "Oceans" - is a song I wrote when a friendship was reconciled. It is about wanting the ocean to come over and wash all the brokenness and pain away so we can start over. -"Inside" - is a song I wrote about my Ex-Wife trying to control our kids and stop them from seeing me - telling lies about me to the kids to try and turn them against me - but in the end, then ended up leaving her and coming to live with me as they saw through all her lies. There are 3 songs that are important for me.

AL: What is one of your most memorable performance in second life that you’ve enjoyed? Have you ever performed somewhere where you feel like you’re a part of something big?

Tally Mercury: In SL - I have so many fun memories - I think my fave was the first show I did with my band Neon Fiction - I had never played with a group in SL before and it was all original songs, no covers - we had around 90 people come out and it was sooo much fun! I was buzzing for days after.

AL: Have you ever collaborated with any SL or real-life singers/musicians? Are you planning to collaborate with anyone in a future project?

Tally Mercury: yea - so I collaborated with Fly Kugin - she plays ~Violin in SL - she's incredible. I wrote a song called "Inside" for Neon Fiction, and recorded it. Fly recorded Violin and Cello for it - it will be released in 6-8 weeks I hope. I have talked about doing some work with Phemie too - that would be exciting.

AL: Where can people listen to your music online and inworld? How can people book you to perform at their venue or special occasion? What is your social media, group, discord, and link to your calendar?

Tally Mercury: They can reach me in the information below
