SPOTLIGHT ON UNIQUE BREEDABLES - MONKEY BUSINESS - Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Unique Breedables is a breedables company with a fresh approach to how breeding animals works in Second Life.  UB’s goal is to improve and innovate their products for the new breeder to pros in the breedables community. I sat down with the creator of Unique Breedables to learn more about this company and the details he implements into each primate.  Along with his business partner and professional scripter Damian Dusk, they paid close attention to lag and cost of kits that is a problem with many other breedables. They addressed those issues and continues to provide exceptional customer care and services to the breedable community.

Lanai: Hi UniqueBreedable, it's a pleasure to meet with you for a chat about your breedables company. How did you discover Second Life and what inspired you to get into the business?

UniqueBreedable: Hello Lanai, thank you for taking the time for this interview to bring Unique Breedable closer to your readers. About 12 years ago I saw the light of day in Second Life and, like many others, I first sailed aimlessly through the virtual world of Second Life. After a relatively short time I came across the first Breedables and became a relatively successful breeder. After an accident in real life and a long hospital stay, I returned to second life to find that the value of my bred animals had rapidly dropped because I was no longer up to date with the latest traits. Then I decided to retire as a breeder and the idea of my own breedable was born. After a lot of thoughts I came to the decision that it had to be chimpanzees, who doesn't like chimpanzees?

After it was determined that it would be chimpanzees, it took almost exactly a year for the first Unique Breedables chimpanzee to run through Second Life. Fortunately, after some initial problems, I met one, if not the best scripter in SL, Damien Dusk, and have decided since the official launch of Unique Breedables in April. 08th 2013, to make Damien an equal partner. After the successful launch of the chimpanzees, we started developing the gorillas and the capuchins followed a little later. Our latest creation, which we are currently working on with high pressure, will hopefully soon be available for our breeders in second life.

Lanai: Your concentration is on primates like gorillas, chimpanzees and those adorable capuchins? Can you tell me what fascinates you about this particular animal?

UniqueBreedable: That's a really good question, even as a child, I was fascinated by primates every time I visited the zoo. Chimpanzees and gorillas are simply incredibly intelligent animals that, in my opinion, are given far too little attention. How often have you been able to observe a gorilla or chimpanzee somewhere and say to yourself "Wow, that's so human" !?!

If you've ever seen a gorilla learn sign language and then tell you that he misses his mother who was murdered by poachers in his presence, how can you ignore such creatures? How can you continually destroy their living space in order to make a profit with coconut oil and similar things? Unbelievable things happen in the habitat of the gorillas and other primates and only a few people on our planet take any notice. To deliberately harm these animals is to me as if I am harming my own child, I have decided to do everything I can to help these beautiful animals to develop undisturbed in their habitat.

Unique Breedables can proudly claim that, as a donor to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), it helped protect the habitat of these animals. From time to time we publish a limited edition that 100% serves the purpose of generating money that we 100%, for example, are tied to a WWF project, donate. All of these campaigns are of course also published on our website.

Lanai: What a great cause you are supporting! I agree more attention should be given to primates and their habitats. Now that you have expressed your fascination with these beautiful animals, what are the special traits and animations that are included with the various breeds you create?

UniqueBreedable: What all species have in common is that they are all very active. They run, climb, swing, slide, hunt and it's just fun to watch them. Even when they are asleep they still bring a smile to your face. Of course, depending on the species, they have traits that others don't have. The most popular trait among the gorillas, for example, is the "rideable" trait. You can ride your gorilla and climb anything that comes your way, yes, even other avatars. Another gorilla-specific trait is the "silverback", which of course only male gorillas over a certain age can receive.

In the case of chimpanzees, the specific trait is the "speed". From "Sloothy" to "Lightning" there is something for everyone to watch the little ones doing their activities with a lot of fun. Imagine a "Fat" and "Sloothy" chimp swinging. ;o) The possibility to carry your chimpanzee is also very popular.

The Capuchin Trait is extremely funny. They have a "personality". From "Normal" to "Crazy", "Lazy" or "Think it's People" and "Zombie Creep", there is plenty of variety and fun to watch the little monkeys. As with the chimpanzees, you can also carry the capuchins around, whereby they carry on to show off with their personality when carried around.

Compared to other breedables in Second Life, we decided to take a different approach to animate the animals than the commonly used texture swapping, with the result that our breedables generate considerably less lag. So you can have a lot of Unique Breedales run on your land and have fun watching their activities.

Lanai: Sounds like you know your stuff about their various behaviors. Can breeders customize their primates? What can be changed to make them unique to the breeder?

UniqueBreedable: As with all known breedables, the Unique Breedables also have a number of traits with a wide range of options.

The aim of every breeder should be to get the maximum number in his breed. In addition, it is of course 1. the market and the demand and 2. the breeder which trait he prefers to include in his breeding. From my point of view, every breeder should set himself a goal, a project of what exactly he wants to achieve with his animal, this is the only way to ensure long-term survival as a successful breeder in Second Life. The best way to make them unique is of course to combine the rarest and newest traits and thus be able to offer a rare animal on the market.

Lanai: Good advice. I know food and consumables are used to sustain breedables.  It’s an important part of the care and breeding process. What kind of consumables are needed to get started?

UniqueBreedable: That's pretty easy to answer. To start breeding Unique Breedables it is enough to buy a starter pack. This includes the smallest variant 1 male and 3 females as well as bananas as primary food and pineapples as secondary food to be supplied for the first week. So there are no follow-up costs to look at the Breedable for a week and decide whether it is the right choice.

The rest of our available Consumables can be optional fed to your UB Monkey to Boost Age, Passion, Happiness, Pregnancy. It also can be used to heal or wake up your Unique Breedable without a loss of happiness. Lanai: I like that you can try it for a week and decide if it is right for them. Can you share some advice on how to get started and what to expect from the starter kits?

UniqueBreedable: To start as a breeder, the best choice, as I have just explained, is to choose a suitable starter kit. The choices are Beginner (1 Male & 3 Females), Advanced (2 Males & 6 Females) or Elite (3 Males & 9 Females). This ensures that the future herd will also receive the latest released traits. Depending on which project you have decided on, it can also make sense to buy Barrels/Boxes from other Unique Breedables Breeders with certain traits to reach your desired goal faster.

In order to have fun with our animals right from the start, it is advisable to buy something from our large selection (which is constantly growing) of playgrounds, trees and other toys. Because, in my opinion, nothing is worse than just lining up a breedable motionless like tin soldiers. The fun of observing how actively the animals swing, climb, etc. is an important aspect for us.

Lanai: With that ratio of males vs. females, I’m sure a lot of monkey business will be
happening!  Can you explain the breeding process? Is it possible to create rares or limited editions?

UniqueBreedable: The breeding cycle for a female UB Monkey is 9 days (3 days to gain Passion, 3 days Pregnancy, 3 days Recovery). The male cycle is much shorter, he will gain passion every 3 days. So 1 male stays busy with 3 females without any wait time.

Our breeders have to mate each pair manually to prevent the animals from mating with each other in an uncontrolled manner. The animals have showing traits, such as the fur that you can see and hidden traits. The aim is of course to breed the hidden traits like a rare fur into your babies.

Limited Editions cannot be achieved through breeding, we offer these on certain occasions such as Christmas, Easter, etc. You should definitely not miss out on them, because breeding with limited editions gives you the opportunity to breed new unique and rare traits that can only come from this special limited edition into your herd.

Lanai: Oh! That’s pretty cool and a great incentive for serious breeders.  Just like in rl all living things die, so do some breedables if not properly taken care of. What does it mean to send your breedable to Heaven? Why is it an option and what is the heaven token for?

UniqueBreedable: Unique breedables never die unless you send them to heaven. If, for whatever reason, your Breedables are not fed, they will get sick, which happens in three stages, "Got the munchies", "Sick" and "Starved". As long as they are not "starved" you can simply heal them again by feeding them, once they have reached "starved" only feeding a healing kit helps.

We have decided to give our breeders the opportunity to send their animals to heaven. The reason for this is actually relatively easy to explain. Every breeder has already experienced it, you mate two wonderful animals and hope for a fantastic result, hurray the baby is finally here, you click on Info for the first time, and the disenchantment is great, the result is not what you are looking for, for 3 long days waited and hoped. So what to do now? Offer the 40,000th barrel for sale with one or two common traits? The disappointment only gets bigger, because there are barrels like this too often to be able to market them successfully. The solution: Off to heaven and collect the Heaven Tokens. Prevent flooding the market with Barrels everyone already has a thousand times.

Heaven tokens can be used to exchange them for selected consumables, yes even food or an extremely rare Heaven gorilla or chimpanzee.

Lanai: Sending them to SL heaven in that way is an honorable act.  There are many different breedables available in Second Life these days. What sets yours apart from the others?

UniqueBreedable: I would say that we differ most clearly from other breedables in the way our animals are animated and active. Many of our breeders also have other breedables and almost always have the same problem, unless they have their own sim, the landlord forbids them to let their animals run because they create too much lag on the land.

Fortunately, I have already spoken to many landlords and they have been able to convince themselves that Unique Breedables generate considerably less lag and can therefore be active in larger numbers on the land without hesitation.

And last but not least, of course, the fun factor, after almost exactly 8 years I still watch our primates today and am amazed how they sometimes act so humanly and so surprisingly.

Lanai: Lag really is a big deal for breeders, it’s nice to know you considered the lag factor and addressed it for Buying and selling breedables That is one of the main reasons breeders get into this business. What kind of auctions and events do your host and what are the price ranges breeders sell and buy?

UniqueBreedable: We have our own auction house at the UB Main-Sim that will open its doors again from April 2021. We also offer our breeders to rent a stable on the UB Main-Sim to offer their animals there. As creators, we have no influence on the prices with one exception, we have a breeder agreement that no Unique Breedable is sold under L $ 1000. It should be understandable to everyone that as a breeder you spend Linden Dollars on food, rent, etc. and therefore a minimum price should also be a matter of course. The rest is regulated by the market with supply and demand, as in any economy.

Lanai: You offer breedables clients a lot of features at a great price.  I noticed you are not on the SL marketplace, why?

UniqueBreedable: Since Breedables are no-copy items, unfortunately, the door is wide open to everyone on the SL Marketplace to pull the money out of other people's pockets by selling counterfeits. Unfortunately, my personal experience with SL Marketplace is not the best in this regard. That's why I would rather save our breeders from trouble and have decided not to offer anything on this platform. Another point is that SL Marketplace has not yet considered that an MP store may be run by more than one person, which would take additional effort and time to split profits.

Lanai: However you are running Unique Breedables, it has proven to be a success and you should be very proud of that.  Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers about Unique Breedables?

UniqueBreedable: It is important to mention that our Breedables do not have to be fed endlessly. All of our Males retire at 120 days, all Females after their 13th birth, which means that they will become a Pet, that no longer require any food. No certificate needs to be purchased or any other extra cost for that.

April 4th - Songbird Sorbet and Keeba Tammas LIVE at Terry's Sunday Showcase

Join us on Sunday, April 4th beginning at 1pm SLT for a special Easter edition of Terry's Sunday Showcase, sponsored by the SL Enquirer! This week's featured artist is Songbird Sorbet!! Beloved by the tinies community of Second Life as well as many others, Songbird is a cover singer of Pop, Rock 'n Roll, and Country.  She has an SL career that spans over 12 years.

"First off, I love being a tiny bunny in Raglan Shire in a virtual world called Second Life (SL).  For those of you who think virtual worlds are a joke, a waste of time, or where questionable activities go on, you're entitled to your opinion, but it's not to say that that's how it is for everyone else.  Secondly, I don't spend exorbitant amounts of time in SL that consumes my time in real life (RL) or interferes with my responsibilities in RL, so no worries there.

Thirdly, the growth and knowledge I've gained by being a resident of SL and more specifically Raglan Shire, has been TREMENDOUS.  My confidence, my creativity, and my talents have been perfected to the point where it's carried over to my self-esteem in RL. This is truly amazing as my journey towards self-confidence and self-acceptance has been one that I've been on for most of my life.  I've read books, gone to professionals, meditated, done Yoga, blah, blah, blah, but the skills I've attained in SL and the encouragement from tiny and biggy friends alike has been the catalyst to self-appreciation and self-love long missing in my real-life existence. Yes, I have religious beliefs that have helped along the way as well."

You can also check out Songbird's music video for Mummer's Dance, filmed in SL by Chaffro Shoonmaker, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d59Kwc7mXJU

Next up this week at 2pm SLT is Keeba Tammas and her backup band, the Tiny Maniacs!  A professional vocalist for many years, Keeba was in a variety of bands in the eighties. She also did voice overs for cartoons and commercials. A seasoned performer in SL as well, Keeba is one of the most sought-after female vocalists available. From the first song to the last she delivers a power-packed punch ... belting out her songs with tremendous energy and sheer raw talent.

Keeba streams from the Midwest and serves up an extremely eclectic repertoire of music: jazz, blues, rock, pop, disco, punk, folk...

"At the age of four my mother plopped me on a stage, at the age of 15, I began recording voices for cartoon and commercial work. I put myself through college by recording jingles, traveling the country performing at fairs, malls, and amusement parks I spent the 80's singing lead in bands. Real Life called me away from music but now this amazing world we call Second Life gives me the opportunity to perform once again.

With my husband's help, I have created the vast majority of tracks I use and those that are not my own have been "enthusiastically tweaked". My musical tastes are extremely eclectic: jazz, blues, rock, pop, disco, punk, folk... I will tailor the set to your venue and taste.

I have been performing in SL since 2007 and most recently have been performing with my backup band, "The Tiny Maniacs"! Actually, I am starting to wonder if they perform with me--or I perform with them!! I invite you to watch my descent into dementia!"

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

Top Hair Designers trending now in Second Life- Katrina Karsin reporting

Have you ever wondered who the top SL hair designers are for both men and women?   There are 834 pages of hair designers on the marketplace alone. Not including hairbands, pins, and other accessories!

What are people looking for when they choose a new hairstyle, does quality and price play an important part in the decision making?

Men have had a hard time in SL finding items specifically for them in the past and even though there are groups and events geared solely for them today. Men I have interviewed believe they are still underrepresented in SL.

This is interesting considering our unique world climate of having to stay home due to the pandemic there is a unique rise of makeup for men using video chat and not wanting to look tired in real life. Unfortunately, there's a shortage of shopping options for men. I asked several men if they would consider becoming a designer, they all said “No”! That may be where the problem is. We need more male designers.

Unlike the opposite sex, women’s hair is a massive industry just like in real life. Women like to change it up especially for a night out or hanging out at home. Most in Second Life will change their hair style daily. With color HUDS, there are many choices as well as ombre, streaked or even half and half.

I asked various women in SL where they shop for hair and the majority think Doux offers a more realistic look.

Trying to compare traffic count from one designer to another was difficult since some rent land or have just moved or are only on Marketplace. That said for both sexes Doux is the leader by far with a wide range of hair and newer hairstyles come with style options for that particular hair, like wearing your long hair on one side, all upfront or all on your back as part of the package including your choice of colours.

They also have a choice in hair bases and beards, for example, if you want to wear braided hair and want it to look more real you can buy a braided hair base to complete the look. What makes Doux so popular is the quality of the hair most believe it looks “realistic”, and just like in rl with big box stores, you can get hair, clothes, skin and more all in one stop as L’Etre and Doux have combined forces.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Secrets/163/154/23

When asked what women hate about Second Life hair they say it is the price, but all will pay begrudgingly. I think it is safe to say that Truth by Truth Hawks was the most well-known designer in Second Life for several years.

TRUTH, Stealthic and n0match followed, while honourable mention must go to tram, Dura, Wasabi, Kuni, Exile and unorthodox all offering a wide range of styles for both men and women.

Stealthic hair HUD includes rigged and unrigged hair, style and colour options. I like their HUD because it gives you a choice showing your roots or not.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Truth/158/27/34

n0match has a wide range of Women’s and Unisex hair your pack will have two sizes and the colour HUD comes with a customization option. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/VALHAL/119/132/21

Ladies will enjoy Tram hairstyles they are super cute and the hair colour blending is amazing! The more recent hair styles have a more every day realistic tousled look, and you may choose from rigged and non rigged hair in store.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Truth/158/27/34

Dura has lots of choses for men and unisex, each pack comes with a variety of styles and a colour wheel.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Dura%20Dura/69/125/1002

Wasabi will give you a couple of style options on the hair you choose as well as the colour HUD and resizing option if needed.  There are a few styles for Men too.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Coraline/206/135/53

I like Kuni hair you are given a range of styles to choose from on your HUD, colour options are very nice and they have some hair for both women and men.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/KUNI/140/173/26

Exile has been around Second Life for awhile and is fairly well known, they offer a wide range of hair for both sexes.  If you are on a tight budget you may want to check them out as newer hair comes with style option, colour choices and to resize the hair just click on your head.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Covet/119/109/26

Unorthodox offers up BOM, Genus, Catwa, and Omega hair for the whole family and extends a two payment option, one is a nice elite VIP price and other regular price.

Facial Hair/ Beards

Long gone are the days where men would have facial hair included on their skin choice.  Today men have a good range of styles to choose from.

With Volkstone, Modulus and unorthodox giving you a good selection of styles and eyebrow styles as well for men.  Honorable mention goes to Rebirth.

Volkstone presents a very detailed look for beards some have six different styles on one HUD, and you can choose BOM, Catwa and Omega on newer styles. Very impressive!

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Razors%20Edge/80/151/1069

Modulus is for men and a one stop shop, they offer a variety of hair bases, hair, beards, eyebrows and shapes.  They have BOM, Catwa and letLuka worthwhile to check out.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Movado/86/130/58

Rebirth is a made in Italy designer of beards with a variety of beards that will appeal to biker dudes and trend setting guys alike.  Classic Avatar, BOM, Catwa and Omega appliers and nice colour selection for each beard as well.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bagnomaria/97/103/3000

If you love to pull hair or tug on a beard guess what you can do that too!

Dirty Secrets by ℒυѕhєѕ Jɑххoη (lushes.blessed) has both a beard and hair animation that you can touch yes I did say TOUCH on certain areas of each that will enable a response and works with Bento heads! Not to be out done Stealthic hair comes with hand animation to pull your hair back or forward on a timed cycle that you can turn off or on, same with the hair base!

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Busi/94/59/1902

As you sit down in your hairdresser’s chair there is lots of hair styles and beards to explore around Second Life. You will be entertained while chatting up your hairdresser as to what look you are going for, that fits your lifestyle and will look good on you!

AVIE POLL: Is Second Life an extension of real life or just a game?- The SL Enquirer

Second Life has to be one of the most incredible virtual world platforms on the internet as well as an amazing social experiment. For over a decade and a half avatars from all over the world collectively created the environment and  community. Some would argue that it is best to keep Second Life separate from real life because it is just a game while others have a more emotional or professional connection to SL. They take it more seriously and would argue it is an extension of real life. Because Second life is a unique community of professionals mixed with role players and gamers, there is no right or wrong answer. It all depends what you do in Second Life. The SL Enquirer explored the grid to ask avies from all walks of Second Life, “Is this an extension of RL or just a game?”.

SLE: Is Second Life an extension of real life or just a game?

Sól: Second Life is a thriving community and has moved into being a vital part of my life since the onset of the Covid pandemic. Here we interact with one another as pixelated avatars, but there is a real person driving the interactions. People come to Second Life, and cosplay, become fashion designers, and in some cases rockstars. For people unable to have families, they can come to SL and simulate that experience. For transgender people, there is a freedom to live the life they choose here as well. With so much appeal to so many people from different walks of life I could never say that SL is just a game. For me, SL is where my best friends are. This is a space I can be myself, where I can work on myself, where I give myself space to grow.”

Nuka: “When I first came to SL it was a foreign world, and while it took some time to master the basics, the vehicle it provided to enhance my life was amazing. After enjoying the club scene and many different social aspects of the online community, I delved into several different roleplay settings, indulging in the creative outlet of writing which is a long time passion of mine. More recently I have re-entered the social aspect of Second Life and enjoy the talents of a multitude of musicians across the globe. Across the whole of my experience in Second Life, all along the way I have made friends that I have cherished, and memories that are heartwarming with people I would never have otherwise met. Regardless of the use to which I put it, it's definitely an extension of real life with a very real and tangible connection with some pretty terrific people.” <3

Stacey: “Most things in life can be answered by examining the Batman mythos. People who hang around Batman, like the butler or the kid, would point out that Batman is 100% dedicated to crime fighting. His persona of Bruce Wayne, billionaire playboy, is the real mask. He cares nothing for that rich guy's life, which is just a tool that helps him be Batman. A psychologist might say that, no matter how much time he devotes to being Batman, the superhero act is just a tool which Bruce Wayne uses to solve his personal torment. You can turn that logic onto our Avie Poll. I'd go with the shrink's answer. No matter how much time you spend playing SL, even if you seal yourself in a sensory deprivation chamber and do nothing but play SL and eat Chinese delivery food until your heart fails, it is still just you making an animated version of your idealized self and doing things you can not do in RL. SL is a game that real people play. There can be real life results of SL activity- you might make enough Lindens to get rich RL, or you may meet your future husband on here, or you may take a girl avatar on the D Train to Sexytown and never know she was 14 until the detectives show up disguised as Chinese food delivery guys and kick in the door to your sensory deprivation chamber- in case you think the divide between SL and RL is impermeable. However, even if your avatar just walks around and looks at things, the same connection exists. I'd ask the reader to keep in mind that I would give the same answer to this question for any game, be it SL or Candyland or Pac-Man. Everything is real life.”

Mrs.Blue:It depends on the person really but as for me it's an extension of rl to me when you refer sl as a game then you’re basically saying nothing matters meaning no feelings no connection no emotions like playing a video game example pacman, space invaders those are games. people that do play sl as a game its basically means nothing to them. I've been on sl for 8 yrs now going on 9. I've only been in 2 relationships and I made lots of close friends here . When there is a connection between the avis its the same as in rl how you make connections in rl. There are feelings and emotions, a special connection and bond. when people say it's just a game or they seperate sl from rl I will call their bluff. It is hard and impossible to separate both. When emotions and feelings get involved. I'm not saying it's safe to go meet someone you met on sl because it's not safe unless you do your research on someone and get background information. But there is a bond on sl with avis as in rl. I cried when my friends passed away. I worry when I don't hear from them. If my relationship doesn't work out I go through the same emotions I do in rl.. sl has also helped a lot of people who can't do rl stuff no more so it becomes a part of them. example you use to build houses in rl but you've gotten older or health reasons got in the way so u come on sl to continue to do what you love. or you worked in a retail store but can't do it no more because of health issues you come on sl to start your own business. So sl can be a part of your rl in many ways . sl has also been rl to those who are disabled in rl it gives them away to do things that they can't do in rl. Our avis represents us. Well at least in my case it does bring the rl me to sl i voice i control my avi as I control myself in rl. So is sl just a game to me that will be big NOOO. Is sl an extension of my rl? YES IT'S APART OF IT.``

Gemma: “My Best Friend in RL introduced Second Life Online games with me. She encouraged me  to play SL.  At first , I was hesitant because I never played any online games in my entire life. Since last year, 2020 is not a good year for all of us , I decided to try  it anyway, and now ,It's been six months and counting :) that I am playing Second Life. Second life games offer a lot to the players, from your avatar, places that you are visiting and a lot more. But,  what excites me most are meeting new people all over the world. At first, I thought Second Life is just really a  game to play. Something that can occupy you if you are not busy in RL. But as I go along, I find Second life as an extension of my real life.  Why ? Simply because , I spend Time, Efforts and Emotions in playing Second Life. Efforts, in making my Avi as beautiful as I want it to be. I believed that my Avi  is an extension of myself, from the Hair, dresses, shoes , and jewelry that I choose to wear while playing. Same in RL, you always find time to do things that will make you happy like Clubbing, Dancing, Beaches , meeting friends and  a lot more  and those things are also offered in Second lIfe. When it comes to emotions, I put half of my  RL heart in playing Second Life.  When you meet new people or gain new  friends in SL , you are investing feelings already towards them.  Like in RL, you can also feel different emotions in playing SL , you can be Happy or Sad , You can laugh and cry, You can be Good or Not, or You can feel Hurt or Betrayed,  by the people you choose to be with in this Game. So at the end of the Day, from the Time You Log in and TIme you Log out in Second Life , what is Important is your HEART.”

Jessie:SL is a game, BUT it is not "JUST" a game. People seldom use the word "play" for being in SL. You could say it is social networking and therefore can be an extension of real life. However in SL you are free to create any avi - to be anyone, to do anything, even to be any species. It means different things to different people. Many people use SL as an extension of RL. And many use SL to experiment with roles that they would never try in real life. Some are very creative. SL is very immersive and the emotions are real. The friendships are real. And yes, people really do fall in love. Often there will be 30,000 people 'inWorld'. The content is all created by the users. In SL people cooperate to build SIMs and run events, rather than shooting each other!! For me it is all about friends and live music. We go to venues and chat while we watch the most amazing musicians from around the globe. There is a lot of 'audience participation' too!! I also like exploring the many wonderful SIMs. So yes, SL is a game but much more. And it can be an extension of real life. So, it is both.”

GreenEyedroyalty:To me, SL is neither a game or an extension of my real life.  It is a Matrix-like alternate universe where one can find a new identity or jump into an experience they would never dream of trying in real life.  The lives, movements, creations may be synthetic but the feelings, friendships and meanings are real.  In other words, if your heart dies in SL, it dies in RL as well.”

Ninja: Personally, I'm a firm believer that SL is almost always an extension of real life...unless you're a bot or are participating in RP, there are real life people behind every avatar, each of whom deserve the same respect and treatment as you would give them in your normal life.  That being said, I do recognize that some people need to understand the important differences between SL and real life, such as the necessity of eating, sleeping, working, showering, etc.....as well as the importance of maintaining some level of anonymity with a person you just met in a virtual environment.

Karen“I pay my monthly premium and am entitled to do what I want in SL. You are violating my right to be an avatar.   I’m calling the cops!”

Is Second Life just a game or an extension of your real life? The consensus is SL is more than just a game. However, there are no right or wrong answers to this question. It all depends on the individual purpose for immersing in this virtual world. Join the poll and share your thoughts in the comments section below.
