Night Starz Ranch: Where All Your Nightmares Come True – Josh (Thomas1 Bellic) Reporting
Its that time of year again, when Ghouls and Goblins will
roam the streets, Witches will ride Broomsticks, Zombies will search for brains
to eat, and Home Depot will have a sale on Chainsaws. It’s Halloween, the unofficial holiday where
all manner of bloodthirsty imaginings will take form. And this year there is no better place to get
an early look at such things than Night Starz Ranch. The brainchild of Katie and Trin Night, I had
the frightening opportunity to see their amazing build. Open a little over a week, already over 500
visitors have made the pilgrimage to this Sim of Horrors. I caught up with The Nights while I was
wandering the trails and pathways of their creation, and they graciously agreed
to chat with me about this homage to Halloween.
But don’t take my word for it.
Read the interview below, and then go check it out for yourself.
Josh (Thomas1
Bellic) (JB): What an amazing
build. I spent an hour there the other
night and I STILL and didn’t see everything.
Just how big is Night Stars Ranch anyway?
Trin Night (trinittynight) (TN): Yes, it is a lot to see. It's a full sim, with
one main trail till you get near the end then it breaks off into 4 different trails. But there are side areas to see, like The
Burning Church, and the Circus. Just walk around and enjoy yourself. If you get
lost, find a Police Officer or when we find you, we will just add you to the build.
Katie Night (katiestarz) (KN): Wow.
There are LOTS of fun things to see.
This Halloween build is a full sim, so be sure to check out all the
different paths. Just follow the arrows.
JB: Lots of work is evident
here. Did you guys do this all on your
own, or did you have help?
TN: Yes, we did all the work ourselves, and
with the help of ღℓiℓ Star Pøøтεя ღ (star.schoonhoven) putting out stuff to
use. And our Sponsor: Giano Properties / www.Giano Properties.com. That has helped us a LOT. We really do
appreciate their support.
KN: Yes.
we did the builds. My lil God daughter ღℓiℓ Star Pøøтεя ღ
(star.schoonhoven) helped some with the
individual scenes by putting things out for us to use because she loves
Halloween too.
JB: This must
have taken months and months to design, purchase the components, and put the
thing together so that it flows seamlessly.
How long have you been working on this?
TN: I have been
putting things together for a year now. After our last Halloween Party, I began
buying things and getting Ideas in my head, and then I built it and put it
together. I have been “Halloween Crazy” all year. I don’t think that will EVER
stop. lol.
KN: We both LOVE
Halloween so we’ve been buying things for years, and we just put all of our
stuff out together and worked on it that way.
JB: I saw signs
for a big event on October 30th. What
can you tell us about that?
TN: Yes! We are
having a Halloween Party. This will be our second year doing one of these. Our
first party was a BIG hit with our friends and family. So, I had to do it even
BIGGER this year. This year we will have DJ Jake and Host Katie at the Star
Castle for a 2- hour set. We’d like for anyone to come and come in costume and
have fun.
KN: I am SO
excited for our BIG event on the 30th! DJ Jake will be spinning the
tunes for our Halloween party, while I get to do one of my favorite things in
SL….Host Parties!
JB: So, tell
me, are you two big fans of the horror movie genre, because it is certainly
evident in your work? Were there any movie-inspired builds in particular?
KN: Trin does love
horror movies. I have never seen one
myself. Lol. But he did an amazing job on the builds. I am more into cutesy Halloween stuff. Lol. So you’ll see my contributions at the end
of the trail.
TN: Yes I'm a big
Horror fan! Katie, not so much lol. I
love horror movies and yes, there are some movies that have inspired me and I have put into my builds. Movies like Halloween, Friday the 13th, IT
(Penny Wise), Scream, Zombie movies, Silent Hill, and many, many more.
JB: What a fun
place! How did you decide to do such an extensive build that will be used just
for the Halloween Season?
TN: Yes, it is a
fun place and I hope that everyone comes and enjoys it like I do. And it is
funny, but last year everyone loved our Halloween party so I told everyone that
I would make it bigger and better so that’s what I did for THIS year. I hope to
keep this going every year from now on. I have started making an Asylum Ride
that may be done before Halloween is over. If not, it will be in Next Year’s
Build for sure.
KN: Last year we
did a much smaller build for our family and friends to enjoy. We thought this year we would go bigger and
see how it goes. It has gone much better
than I ever expected.
JB: Near the
end of the journey is an expansive castle with a BIG dance floor. Just how many
dancers can you hold up there before you reach a Fire Code Violation?
TN: I hope the
Zombies get the Fire Marshal before he can get to the castle. But we can handle
100 on the dance pads, and we will also have an INTAN for couples and singles.
The sim can only hold 100 Max, but I sure do wish it could hold more. lol.
KN: Well, we have
a 100-dance pad system and will have an INTAN as well, so, hopefully, we will
be good with no fire code violations lol.
Besides. I imagine the Fire
marshals will be kept busy with the fires they encounter on their way up to the
castle and won’t even bother us up there.
JB: I see you
have an orphanage. I am not certain, but
it may need a bit of work if you want to keep your certification with the
National Orphanage Association. What was the inspiration for that?
TN: Yes, our
orphanage is a little rundown. It ran out of money and souls. Now it is a
place of the past and the ghosts of little children roam the grounds and they
do their schoolwork sitting at the desks, never to rest again. I watch a lot of
ghost shows on TV and I’ve seen the Ghost Hunters at the orphanage and they are
scary! So, I wanted to build one
also. I think it came out pretty good if
I do say so myself.
KN: WOW. It had so many creepy dolls & stuff , it was scary being built but Trin did a great job with it.
JB: I
understand you may be putting together an event to be held prior to the Oct 30
Bash. Can you tell us about that?
TN: We’re trying
to plan a Masquerade Party. We’re still
working on that, but we are hoping to have it worked out soon, so there will be
more information available on that later. We will post it on our Facebook Page.
JB: Do you have
any Social Media Sites connected to your build or Groups?
TN: Yes. Check us out:
·
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NightStarzRanchEvents/
·
SURL:
There you can see all the events we do, and it's not just for
Halloween. We do lots of other parties and events throughout the year as well.
KN: We also have personal FLICKR and PRIMFEED pages as well
JB: Is there
anything else you would like to share with our SL Enquirer readers
TN: I'd like to thank everyone who has helped. And to all the Visitors that have come so far, and
to the Visitors yet to come. We here at Night Starz Ranch would like to say
Thank You for coming and for your support. We hope you have the best Halloween
season and have fun and be safe.
KN: Please come by
and take photos and enjoy the sim with us.
We also have a game room up on top of the castle - just follow the
stairs up to it...and enjoy your time here at Night Starz Ranch Horror Nights.
So, there you have it folks. Straight from the
specter’s…uhh...I mean…straight from the creator's mouths. So, head on over to Night Starz Ranch Horror
Nights. You’ll be glad you did. And when you do, tell ‘em Josh sent ya. You’ll be glad ya did.
Be there! ALOHA!

Amelia's Coastal Treasures: SL's Largest Coastal-Themed Store: Josh (Thomas1 Bellic) Reporting
Amelia's Coastal Treasures: SL's Largest Coastal-Themed Store: Josh (Thomas1 Bellic) Reporting
I had just come into possession of new digs, and I set
about the daunting task of furnishing the place. I wanted a place that was functional, yet
contemporary looking. A place where I
could comfortably reside, without breaking the bank to do so. It was during this search that I stumbled,
quite literally, on Amelia’s Coastal Treasures.
As one of the newest furnishings stores sporting a Coastal theme, I happened upon Amelia, the owner, and asked
if she might take a few moments out of her busy schedule and answer a few
questions for the benefit of our SL Enquirer readers, and she graciously
consented to do so.
Josh (Thomas1 Bellic) (JB): So tell me Amelia. Can you share a little about your SL experience and your initial involvement here in the Virtual World?
Amelia Corryong (AC): I started out like many, just exploring and finding out what all SL had to offer. Learning how to walk straight, transform my orange avatar into something halfway appealing, all the things. *Laughs* I had several relationships, friendships and of course went through the various trends such as Bloodlines, dancing, club ownership, MC life-then found out I had a talent as a DJ. I got my start at Turbo DJ (The Rock) and from there went to various clubs including Wet Willies, Ohana, Big Daddy's, to name a few. I very much enjoyed DJing and although I DJed for a few smaller clubs under this avatar, I did most of my DJing through another avatar named Shannon Celestalis. I met someone in world and it evolved into real life and not only had I found my Prince Charming, but my Prince Charming's castle was 10 or 11 blocks from the beach-so two life-long dreams came together for me at once. I met my now RL husband and lived my dream of being literally a few blocks from the ocean and surrounded by all the things I love with the man I love. We knocked around on SL for a while longer, but at some point, thereafter both of us were in a place where we did not desire to be in SL. We both took fairly long hiatuses from SL and it was only when I got a little bored and wanted an outlet to create that I returned.
JB: So then, do you still DJ
from time to time?
AC: Sadly, no. The only left-over from any
of that is my radio station, Iron Horse Radio, which is a rock and metal themed
station. I started that up whilst living
in Florida. We streamed to many clubs and MC properties during that time. Once
I came back regularly, I dusted off my SAM and restarted the station, although
at this point it mainly just plays on my sim. Shameless plug- you can listen at
http://gostream.store:8774 .
JB: That seems
like quite a direction change. How did you make the jump from DJing to
creating?
AC: Initially, my
interest when I returned to SL was in photography. Once I got into the
photography a little deeper, I wanted to add effects to my photos and that led
to my learning Photoshop. Learning PS in turn, led to the starting point of
designing and creating and bringing me to where I am now.
JB: So, what
was the thought process behind creating your store, Amelia's Coastal Treasures?
AC: My opinion has
been that most successful money-making ventures have a niche so to speak. The business needs to offer something that
sets them apart or has enough mass appeal that if there are several of you
doing it, you can still have some interest and success from other residents. I
thought about it and it seemed to me like most SL residents were of the same
mind as me with regard to their living preferences. It seemed to me that most
wanted a beach- themed property or at the very least, a water-front property of
some sort. My idea was to cater to that. It was, after all, what I loved and I
figured there were plenty of others who had to feel the same. During the time I
really started concentrating on the store, my husband accepted a job in another
(not a coastal) state, which took us away from the beach living that I so
loved, so not only was I designing and creating these things for hobby
purposes, but also for therapy, so to speak.
JB: In your
opinion, what sets you apart from other stores that offer tropical or
beach-themed items?
AC: To use your words, the fact that they offer tropical or beach themed items sets me apart from many of them. I think the sheer size of my store, variety of items and immense array of items offered is what I feel sets me apart. I have knowledge of some Tropical - themed stores in world and think they are great! I have shopped at many of them, will continue to do so and admire their work and their creativity. That being said, most of the ones I was and am familiar with, did not offer the scope or size of what I wanted to. I offer everything from coastal front door mats to coastal tp holders. Every single item such as components of living room furniture, bedroom furniture, kitchen items, etc. all have a coastal or nautical theme or color palette. At my store you can furnish and decorate literally every room in your home, top to bottom, in one shopping experience. Inside and out.
JB: Is your
focus on decor and the above mentioned items, or do you also offer coastal
themed homes and skyboxes?
AC: Of course I
had to venture into home building! I have many coastal homes for sale and
although I am planning on creating some in the future, currently I do not have
any skybox homes.
JB: What is the
one thing you would like people to know about you and your store?
AC: If I had to pick one thing, I would have to say that I would like them to know that I do this because of the sheer joy it brings me. While it has become more profitable in the past few years for me, the impetus for me doing what I do has nothing to do with trying to make money and everything to do with loving the creating and designing side of what I am doing. Every time a customer messages me to tell me how much they love my store I take such pride and joy in hearing it. I am honored and so appreciative that people love what I do and as long as I continue to find pleasure in creating, there will continue to be an Amelia's Coastal Treasures.
JB: Where can
people find your store on SL Marketplace and in-world?
AC: Sadly,
probably less than five percent of my content is on my MP right now. It is
something I have not kept up with and now it has snowballed to the point where
it is absolutely overwhelming to think about trying to get it all uploaded to
MP. It is my intention however, at some point when I can find more time, to do
just that. The best option is to visit the in-world store which is located at
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Fernandina%20Beach/120/255/22
.
If you are just looking at MP, you are missing the bulk of
what the store offers.
JB: Thanks so
much for sharing your experience and taking the time to talk with me about the store.
Best of luck to you in this new adventure.
AC: Thank you as
well for the opportunity and thank you to SL Enquirer as well.
So there you have it, Folks. For those of you who are in the market for
some of the newest home furnishings anywhere, whether you want a full room of
furniture, or accent pieces to dress up what you already have, you are sure to
find something to your liking at Amelia’s Coastal Treasures. I wish to express a special Thanks also to
Annalise Dawn, who aided in the completion of this article. So, hop on by. And when you do, tell ‘em Josh sent you.
You’ll be glad you did.
Be there! Aloha!

ROSEMARY TEAL: A Winning Musician by Any Measure – Josh (Thomas1 Bellic) Reporting
One of the more enjoyable aspects of Life on the Grid is
the tremendous diversity of activities available to the most casual
observer. And nowhere is this
diversity more evident than in the seemingly endless supply of talented musicians
available to entertain SL Residents.
Many of these talented musicians have also done work in RL, and we are
fortunate to be able to enjoy the fruits of their labors in that arena as well. The monthly SL Enquirer Open Mic Singer –
Songwriter competition is one such avenue.
Last month, I had the very real
pleasure of hearing one of SL’s up-and-coming rising stars in the musical
industry here, Rosemary Teal. Her unique
style on the instruments combined with her fun way of engaging with her audiences makes her someone you definitely do not want to miss.
I chatted with Rosemary after her recent win, and she
shared with me some of the challenges and victories of being a Musician in
SecondLife
Josh (Thomas1 Bellic) (JB): So Rosemary, Congratulations on your
win. It was well deserved. Thank you for agreeing to chat with me. To begin with, how long have you been
performing your music, and at what sorts of venues?
Rosemary Teal (RT):
I've been doing music in SL off and on for the last few years. I only do
a handful of regular shows and some one-off shows here and there. Right now you
can find me regularly at Cafe Musique, Mrs. B's Jazz and Blues Club, and
CADENZA.
JB: Who were your music idols, and
those who most influenced your musical style?
RT: I would say my biggest influences are
The Beatles, Norah Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae, Amy Winehouse, dodie, and Orla
Gartland. I love other singer/songwriters that make honest music about their
human experience.
JB: What was
the inspiration for the songs you sang at the contest, and why did you choose
those particular songs?
RT: The theme that
evening was school. I did a cover of Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag and I also live-looped an original song of mine, Existential Crisis. I choose songs that speak
to my own experience in school, and in life really. I'd describe myself as
constantly in crisis and never knowing what I'm doing with myself.
JB: How would
you describe the brand that you now represent? To really stand out in the SL
Music scene, you have to have something special about your performances. How do
you define your music style?
RT: I think my
brand is being an honest, authentic hot mess. I just perform what I'm feeling
and I wear my heart on my sleeve. My musical tastes are all over the map, so I
have a big selection of songs that I do in addition to my original music and
live looping performances.
JB: Are there
any truly landmark performances you can recall?
Best Memories performing both in RL and in SL?
RT: I'm still a
fairly small performer in SL. I may not have a big following, but I love seeing
the familiar faces that come by and listen to my original music. I feel so
loved and accepted by the great reception I get when I perform. Having people
request my music and know the lyrics to the songs I've written means the
absolute world to me.
JB: How did you
take the news when they first announced your name as the winner?
RT: I was shocked, to be honest. A friend of mine invited me to come sing. There were so many
other very talented performers and singers that evening, so even to be
considered was surprising.
JB: Rosemary,
there are lots of budding musicians in SecondLife. What have you found it takes
to be a successful musician these days?
RT: When I find
out I'll let you know! For me, I think just having fun and being real. This is SecondLife, but you can still let the real you shine through. I don't put on a
persona and try to be something I'm not. That may not be for everyone, but
that's what works for me.
JB: You’ve been
on the grid for almost half a dozen years now.
What advice could you give to someone who wants to be a songwriter?
RT: I've been writing songs since I was a kid. My songs are a diary of my life experiences. I write when I'm sad, when I'm angry, and when I'm happy. It's just a way to process my feelings. I think if you have something to say or if you need to express pain or joy in your life, just try to put it together. You'll be surprised how much people can relate to and connect with you.
JB: Do you have
any social media sites that folks can visit to see more of you and your work?
RT: My husband and
I run our own art and design business where we sell our photography, handmade
art, and our original music. You can find my original songs there if you want
to purchase them. https://www.tealfishstudio.com/shop/original-music/rosemary-teal-music
We don't use social media because we find it toxic, but I do
have a:
·
Twitch:
https://www.twitch.tv/rosemaryteal
and I sometimes will stream or post on.
·
YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/@RosemaryTeal
JB: Do you post
your performance schedule for anyone who wants to catch one or more of your
gigs?
RT: Yes, you can
join my group
(secondlife:///app/group/8fca6f82-9080-883a-690d-bcf594743b54/about) for
updates or see my show calendar (https://tinyurl.com/24c5hrn4) for where I'll
be next.
JB: Is there
anything else you would like to share with our SL Enquirer Readers?
RT: I'm still a
fairly small musician on the platform. I would love to share my music with more
people, so if you like original music, live looping, and acoustic covers, and a
little bit of chaos, I hope you'll consider stopping by one of my shows.
Sooooo..There you have it folks. For the BEST in Musical entertainment, be
sure and click on the link above to see where Rosemary is performing next. It will be a performance that leaves you with
a smile on your face and a song in your heart, guaranteed! And when you go, tell ‘em Josh sent ya. You’ll be glad you did.
Be there! Aloha!!

SPOTLIGHT FEATURE: Seven Ravenhurst - Artist, Creator, Dreamer. Mack Abbot reporting
Not everyone has an artistic bone in their body, or the patience to pull prims hither and thither, but Seven Ravenhurst is different. She creates landscapes and experiences in Second Life for the world to see. Here, she discusses her work and her inspriations.
-------
Mack: You started building on There.com and Sansar a few years ago, what made you transition to SL?
Seven: there.com was closing so me and about 8 friends we came over to SL, checked it out and loved the idea
Mack: And how easy did you pick up building in SL?
Seven: Oh, within days, small stuff at first, then castles and taught my self how to terraform on here; slowly buying landscaped items setting up small parcels, decorated for friends weddings little events that kind of thing. Then moved on to carnivals, circuses, concerts. A few friends wanted to check out Sansar so i did for short time, built few experiences got bored came back to SL. and I've been here ever since
Mack: So where do you get your inspiration from to build, say , a castle or a landscape a sim?
Seven: I have many ideas places. A lot from books movies or the back of my mind. Sometimes a photograph that inspires me. The latest sim was based on real island where they did horrid experiments on Monkeys. So for summer, I built Monkey Island; Lots of monkeys & a pirate ship with pirates had Madpea Tropical Tempations Hunt there for the duration. Was a lot of fun. MadPea posted it on their Facebook page. It was a homestead sized sim,
Mack: Excellent, did you get any commissions out of that to build for others?
Seven: Some tips from visitors, mostly I build for the enjoyment of others the SL residents. I have had clients pay me for there private homes parcels events. SL is my virtual canvas.
Mack: Have you ever suffered the builders blind spot as I like to call it where you spend hours so focussed on building and tweaking that, when youve finished, you think "there's something not quite right about this"?
Seven: Oh yes then I rip it all apart and start over. I did that with Monkey Island; spent week building terraforming only to change every bit. End result I was happy with, just wish I had video taped a tour of it. A few yrs back I built sim I called Avatar Way of Water based on the Avatar movie.
Mack: Whats been your proudest creation so far, your Showstopper if you will?
Seven: My favourite has been Monkey Island or one my old ones, Winter Fantasy years ago. There are photos from it on Flickr. It was Bellisaria Passport location, had a winter castle, Santa workshop and a frozen lake surrounding the main section with 2 giants guarding the entrance.
Mack: You're an artist and writer in real life, how does your art translate to SL or vice versa?
Seven: I loved fantasy art and landscapes in real life. I've painted murals , on canvases. small perfume bottles what ever inspires me to keep painting. Trees, beach scenes, dark fantasy and more. So SL lets me bring a third dimension into my Art with 360 degree views, where many people can be inspired themselves. I've taught Art in RL to children and adults. Art is a great way for people to express sadness, grief, heal to grow, to be at Peace and certainly a great happiness.
Mack: And on that beautiful mantra, I'll say thank you for your time.
Seven: Thank you also, it was a pleasure.
