LUXE PARIS AND LUXE DOT BE – SECOND LIFE’S EPITOME OF HIGH FASHION - JOSH (THOMAS1 BELLIC)

One of the great perks of life on the grid is the opportunity to visit sims and events I might not normally get to and meet people from around the world.  I recently had an opportunity to interact with some of the Grid’s most stunning ladies and gents at LUXE international. After culling through dozens and dozens of applicants last May, the officials at LUXE chose an initial pool of 25 Men and 25 Women to move into the Luxe Look of the Year competition.  That number was further reduced to 10 men and 10 women as the final phase began. After an extensive vetting process that began last May, the LUXE Paris and LUXE Dot Be winners we announced. I had the privilege of interacting with these individuals and some of their answers to my questions were quite telling.

QUINTE, Winner of LUXE Paris

YEBEN, Winner of LUXE Dot Be

The winners come from all around the world, from China to Peru; from Columbia to Reno Nevada – all had stories to tell and different paths to becoming Luxe winners.
Winning this contest is something that takes some seniority in SL.  Most of the winners had been in SL for nearly a decade or more. When asked how long they had been SL residents, the average length of time was eight years and ten months here, with individual lengths running from three years to over 13 years in residence.

Did you think you had a good shot at the LOOK of the YEAR, or was your ranking there a complete surprise?
Respondents answers indicated a range of emotions, and varied from complete surprise, to matter-of-fact expectations.  Half of the winners expected to win, with comments like “I thought I would do well because I knew the styles very well having modeled LUXE Paris for years” , or, “I have prepared for two years for this moment, I am very confident in my abilities and although the contest was very competitive, I was confident that I would get a good place”.   But other winners were surprised by their unexpected good fortune, with comments like “It was definitely a surprise!  There was some pretty great talent participating!” or, “It was a surprise to win. I wasn’t very confident after the classes they held for contestants, but I was encouraged by my other model friends”.
SELENE SNOWPAW, First Runner Up LUXE Paris
AHN AVION, First Runner up LUXE Dot Be

When asked How did you take the news when they first announced your name?
One contestant reacted with “The first feeling is shock...did I really hear my name? ThenWe have members who were I panic...what do I do? Then pure joy as it sinks in that all that hard work and time was very worth it.”  Others were equally surprised, noting “ My first thought was that I was glad my avatar's expressions didn't look like my real life expressions! I'm sure I looked like a fish out of water with my mouth hanging open because my jaw was on the floor.”

How was the experience? What was the most fun part? The most difficult?
Some of the contestants were truly humbled by the experience.  “The contest was an amazing experience. To be surrounded by so much talent was humbling. The management of the contest was very well done and we were all treated with the utmost respect and yet had tons of fun.  Another noted that “I had never been in a competition before so the whole thing was a learning experience. I enjoyed seeing everyone's interpretations of style, especially from the men since our style choices were far more limiting. There are some great ideas out there! I don't know that there were any difficult aspects to it.” And then there were the actual mechanics of modeling itself.  “It was a new experience for me and I did learn many things. It is not easy to walk a runway and be a model. It looks easy, but not so much true. I was very hard on myself and was afraid I might make a bad mistake.”

How would you describe the brand that you now represent?

Luxe Paris is a very elegant and current brand, which is always aware of everything from fashion trends and the well-being of the community.  Youthful, fresh, elegant and above all very nice to wear. LUXE Paris is for women that care about how they look and wish to wear the elegant and classy clothing of current fashion trends.  Dot-be has fashions for those looking for something not quite typical yet not overly eccentric.  Different yet not outlandish or garish. I have found it easy to bring the Brand to life as my personal style is very closely aligned to that of Mika and Paris. I enjoy the range of the designs from sassy and saucy to elegant, smart and sophisticated. Luxe Paris is the Brand that can dress you for every occasion.
MELANY AGUILERA, Second Runner Up LUXE Paris

NASAO ELTON, Second Runner Up LUXE Dot Be

Why is fashion important to you?
All contestants agreed, Fashion is Important.  One noted that “Fashion for me is my love, my passion and a very important vehicle to help make a difference in the world.  Fashion is my artistic medium for expression, who I am always comes through. Fashion allows me to express myself, my moods and important causes that I can further through my modeling and fashion exposure.  I see fashion as a means of empowerment for women which can reach every corner of the globe.” Another contestant noted that “Styling is the key. How you wear is as important as what you wear. We only get one chance to make a good first impression, and depending on the situation, that first impression can be vital to create a strong professional relationship.”

And of course, what is a Fashion Show without social commentary? The candidates were asked What social stigma does society need to get over? What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it?
Responses were concise.  “Society should respect and tolerate differences in many ways of thinking, feeling and being. We need to overcome the differences in skin color, ethnicity and sexuality, we need to respect and admire everyone equally. Just because we may disagree, it doesn't mean that we have to hate each other.  One contestant identified a truly practical issue and noted “What really disturbs me is when too many cars are on the road for my drive to work.”
Saving the best question for last  we asked If magic was real, what spell would you try to learn first?
One person answered, “to be able to travel through time. Also to be able to give peace and joy in afflicted hearts, to live in a world populated by good people who have neither time- nor desire to harm others.”  Another thought the ability to teleport at will would be excellent. Finally, one contestant who most fully embraces life on the grid responded with “What?! Magic isn't real?! I quit!”

LOOK of the YEAR The winners are...QUINTE and YEBEN!

The fifth LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR is Quinte from China and the first LUXE Dot Be LOOK of the YEAR is Yeben from Belgium!

Right behind them, Selene Snowpaw from USA, first runner up in the Women's category, Ahn Avion from USA, first runner up in the Men's category, and Melany Aguilera from Peru and Nasao Elton from Colombia, the second runners up!

The excitement was at its peak, Sunday, on AIM stage as the LOOK of the YEAR finalists competed in a final challenge. On the theme ''Romance at the Ritz'', the finalists rivaled elegance, really carrying us into the luxurious ambience of this mythical Paris hotel.

As the finalist were walking the runway, the 13 judges evaluated their style, elegance and charisma and gave them a last score. This score was added to the Swimsuits competition and Happy Sunny Afternoon challenge scores, assigned last week, and the total determined the winners.

LIKE A FAIRY TALE!

The two winners were astounded as the two of them had no modeling background and that several experienced models were in the race.

''I am totally shocked'' said Quinte, who was intensely trained by her friends models the last past weeks.

''I still wonder what’s happening to me'' confided Yeben, a DJ in his ''normal'' Second Life.

It is not mandatory to be a professional model to enter the LOOK of the YEAR competition but you must demonstrate that you have the potential to become one. The LOOK of the YEAR organization, together with In-Nova Academy and Proposes, offers an accelerated modeling course for the inexperienced finalists and a scholarship to the winners.

IT'S A FIRST!

This is however the first time in five years that the LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR is a new comer to the modeling world. As for LUXE Dot Be, Yeben’s victory comes as part of the brand’s first participation in the competition.

Quinte and Yeben distinguished themselves by the quality and originality of their look and their excellent performance on the runway, convincing the judges that they were the best possible ambassadors!

The new LUXE Paris and LUXE Dot Be LOOK of the YEAR each received the tidy sum of L$50,000! They also won: One year of free shopping at LUXE Paris/LUXE Dot Be (a value of L$30 000), a fashion feature in The Second Life Enquirer and in the magazines ModeLS,  SL Confidencial and L'Amour Diversity (a value of L$30 000),  a private dinner party for 20 at the Duplex Club (a value of L$5000), a scholarship at In-Nova Model Training (a value of L$4000), a gift card of L$3500 at ProPose, a gift card of L$3000 at Alma Makeup, a crown by Zuri Jewelry (a scepter for the man), a value of L$1500, an official picture by Jack Rock (a value of L$1000), an hour coaching with Ponchituti Boucher and a VIP invite to be part of AIM Modeling Agency.

The two runners up in each category (women & men) also received a scholarship at In-Nova Model Training (a value of L$4000), a Zuri tiara or scepter (L$1000), a gift card from ProPose (L$2500 for the first and L$1500 for the second), a gift card from Alma Makeup (L$1000 for the first and L$500 for the second) and an official picture by Jack Rock (L$1000). They will also get an hour coaching with Ponchituti Boucher and be interviewed by ModeLS Magazine and SL Confidencial.

Bravo to the winners but also to all the finalists who gave a fabulous show!

PHOTOS by JACK ROCK

It was hot, hot, hot Sunday at AIM theater as the LOOK of the YEAR finalists presented the Swimsuits Competition!

For the occasion, LUXE Paris designers, Parisian Skytower and Mika Palmyra, and LUXE Dot Be designer, Boniefacio, have created an exclusive swimsuit for each of the finalists, inspired by their RL national flag.

This challenge was the first of the LOOK of the YEAR finale and it was immediately followed by the Happy Sunny Afternoon Challenge. For this challenge, the finalists have been asked to prepare a LUXE Paris or LUXE Dot Be outfit expressing the joy of a beautiful sunny day.

LUXE Paris and LUXE Dot be are looking for two ambassadors, a woman and a man, who distinguish themselves by the quality of their look and who will represent the brands with grace and charisma.

The winner of the Women's category will be the fifth LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR and the men's winner, the first LUXE Dot Be LOOK of the YEAR as it is the first year that the contest has a men's category.

The two winners will each receive L$50,000 cash, one year of free shopping at LUXE Paris/LUXE Dot Be (a value of L$30 000), a fashion feature in the magazines ModeLS,  SL Confidencial, L'Amour Diversity and The Second Life Enquirer (a value of L$30 000), a private dinner party for 20 at the Duplex Club (a value of L$5000), a scholarship at In-Nova Model Training (a value of L$4000), a gift card of L$3500 at ProPose, a gift card of L$3000 at Alma Makeup, a crown by Zuri Jewelry (a scepter for the man), a value of L$1500, an official picture by Jack Rock (a value of L$1000), an hour coaching with Ponchituti Boucher and a VIP invite to be part of AIM Modeling Agency.

A panel of 14 judges evaluates the finalists, assigning a score for each challenge and it is the addition of these scores that will determine the winners. The LOOK of the YEAR grand finale is not open to the public in order to keep the lag as low as possible so the finalists and the judges can be at their best. LOOK of the YEAR THE BRUNCH OF THE JUDGES AND FINALISTS

The excitement was in the air on Sunday, as the 20 finalists of the LOOK of the YEAR competition met the 14 judges for the first time, during an elegant brunch at LUXE Paris and LUXE Dot Be.

Each finalist was invited on the stage to explain to the panel of judges why he or she would be a good ambassador for LUXE Paris Women Fashion or LUXE Dot Be Men Fashion.

''We are looking for two ambassadors, a woman and a man, who distinguish themselves by the quality of their look and a powerful style and who will represent our brands with grace''. explain the three designers behind this contest, Mika Palmyra and Parisian Skytower of LUXE Paris, and Boniefacio of LUXE Dot Be.

After the speeches, the LOOK of the YEAR official photographer, Jack Rock, captured the unique style and beauty of each of the finalists and then, it was shopping time! Each finalist was allowed to choose 10 outfits, no charge, at LUXE Paris or LUXE Dot Be. That was fun and a really good way to achieve this day, which was the first event of the LOOK of the YEAR finale.

ON THE RUNWAY THIS SUNDAY

This Sunday, the finalists will finally hit the runway and show the judges their modeling skills as they will present the Happy Sunny Afternoon show.

This show combines two challenges. To start, the finalists will model swimsuits especially created for them by LUXE Paris and LUXE Dot Be, in the colors of their RL country flag. For the second challenge, the finalists have been asked to interpret the Happy Sunny Afternoon theme, to express, with their clothes and styling, ''la joie de vivre'' under a beautiful sunshine.

The third and last challenge, Romance at the Ritz in Paris, will take place on July 21th as the grand finale. We will then know who will be the next LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR and the first LUXE Dot Be LOOK of the YEAR as it is the first time that the contest has a men category.

THE GRAND FINALE LIVE ON YOUTUBE!

The new ambassadors will each win L$50,000 cash, one year of free shopping at LUXE Paris/LUXE Dot Be (a value of L$30 000), a fashion feature in the magazines ModeLS,  SL Confidencial, L'Amour Diversity and The Second Life Enquirer (a value of L$30 000),  a private dinner party for 20 at the Duplex Club (a value of L$5000), a scholarship at In-Nova Model Training (a value of L$4000), a gift card of L$3500 at ProPose, a gift card of L$3000 at Alma Makeup, a crown by Zuri Jewelry (a scepter for the man), a value of L$1500, an official picture by Jack Rock (a value of L$1000), an hour coaching with Ponchituti Boucher and a VIP invite to be part of AIM Modeling Agency.

The two runners up in each category will also share more than L$35,000 in prizes from the sponsors.

Staged and directed by Julia Brand, LUXE Paris COO, and presented at AIM brand new theater, the challenges-shows will unfortunately not be open to the public. The organization took this difficult decision in order to keep the lag as low as possible so finalists and judges can be at their best. However the LOOK of the YEAR grand finale will be broadcast live on YouTube! Keep an eye on The SL Enquirer to get the link to watch this thrilling event!
