VMS News: Guitar Therapy/ Interview with Anek Fuchs Written by Crew Pelliot

Anek Fuchs is an accomplished, well-known musician in Second Life. When I arrived at his show at VirtualMusic Services, he was bantering with the audience before he started playing a little White Stripes for us. The rest of his show was filled with both lively and slower songs as he took us through different music genres and time periods. Near the end, he even included some instrumental songs, improvised on the spot.
In real life, Anek is known as Dave Smith, a singer, musician, and songwriter from Chicago, Illinois

Spotlight Feature: Meet Musician IceCremn Merlin Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

IceCremn Merlin Profile Image
Music is a staple of Second Life entertainment., whether you are at a nightclub “breaking it down” to your favorite DJ or hitting the numerous venues to catch a performance, it should always be an enjoyable experience.

Each SL Musician has their own style whether they are doing covers and writing their own tunes or playing requests and interacting with the audience on a stream. Artists can even perform with other musicians, using dual streaming. When you include the many different genres that can be found in Second Life, the music scene definitely has something for everyone; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Recently while exploring for a spot to chill and take in the atmosphere, I came across a musician by the name of IceCremn Merlin. What grabbed my attention was his name. It made me want to know more about him.

VMS News: Musician Bara Jonson: A Success Story - Angharad Catteneo Reporting...

Bara Jonson

Bara Jonson, a Second Life musician from Ã…hus, Sweden, has one of the greatest real life success stories I’ve encountered. I remember viewing a documentary on his Second Life so it was a treat to catch him live on the Grid. His music is a little alternative rock/country and his acoustic guitar complemented his strong voice. Listening to his performances, it’s easy to tell that Bara’s original songs were inspired by real life experiences.

I interviewed Bara about his music career and his journey to success.
Bara started with music at age seven and continued into his adult years. Around 1997 he took a ten-year break from music to concentrate on a business recruitment company. When the world’s economy took a nosedive in 2007, no one was hiring and as a result, recruitment companies weren’t needed. That was when he first started playing Second Life. The virtual world was a way to take his mind off of real life, although he had no knowledge of the music community within it.

“Well, I didn’t know anything about SL when I started. Then I thought about the idea of connecting a guitar and microphone to SL and maybe I could ‘find a place beside a fire to play for those who stopped by’,” he says of his first experiences in Second Life. Before he knew it, he had won the mediaculture Virtual Music Award of 2008 for Best Artist.

Tpenta Vanalten Music In Second Life Pandora Drezelan Reporting…

Pub With No Beer

I watched Tpenta Vanalten’s performance at a great little Australian hotel. ‘The Pub With No Beer’ and got to speak to him about his work and Second Life. Tpenta (Alan in RL) talks about his early days in Second Life and the beginning of his musical career:

‘I had my fifth rez day last December. I came to Second Life initially I think out of curiosity. I made a number of friends at a club called Odds & Ends. It didn't take me long to figure out that without Linden dollars it was going to be rough’

‘Odds & Ends had "dance pads" which let you "earn" Lindens but it really was a slow way to earn money. I hosted events at a club for a while before hearing about live music in Second Life.’

‘I remember very clearly the first time I played, just not quite when. It was probably about a year after I started.’

‘One of the highlight music events of the week used to be Freestar Bay. It would start around 7pm on Saturday evening and run 30 minutes sets of booked artists until midnight and then an open mic while there were folks who wanted to play.’

‘Autumnfoxx would be there for the whole event. Organizing the performers onto the stage, getting streams right etc for the whole time. I decided to have a go at the open mic. Rosedrop (Rusty) Rust brought me out to Pannies and let me test my setup on his stream before jumping up at FSB, but my first real gig in Second Life was at the open mic in Freestar Bay.’

Twin Ghost - The Album

Hot, sunny summer days - the sound of children playing, traffic, and the aroma of laundry drying on clotheslines. The soundtrack? Soulful tunes evocative of the 70s, infused with the art of the song - before the time of music as a product. A different time, a better time, a more innocent time. These are the emotional connections conjured by the songs of Twin Ghost.
Inspired by the people, the music and the creativity of Second Life, TwinGhost presents his initial solo release album. A collection of nine songs presented for
the modern audience and mastered in the first half of 2011 and simply called Twin Ghost - The Album.
This album captures the essence of the Twin Ghost live SL shows while presenting a refined and well-produced collection of soulful ballads, bluesy rockers, acoustic masterpieces, and hypnotic soundscapes that draw the listener in, all with a poetic and lyrical sensibility as well as that characteristic unique to this artist, the amazing voice.
The Album release party for Twin Ghost - The Album will be happening in Secondlife on August 5th 2011 @The BoomPony event venue. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Amardon%20East/6/214/21
Its a 70's themed party and there will be giveaways for the most elegant, most freaky, most wild and most creative avatar. All winners receiving a full album download.
