THE VISION IS NOW REALITY - STUDIO III

 

Among the clubs that The Muses brought to life on this mainland SIM, is the newly created Studio III, a spectacular venue that will offer LIVE entertainment.

The Muses bring this venue to life with its picturesque landscaping. The motif is music, from instruments you can play to RL musical locations marking the venue borders.  A walkway with notes and piano keys at the entry lets you know it’s all about music and fun.  Discover the plaza with its gorgeous gazebo, dancing waters, and a giant chess set you can play!

Enter Studio III proper and the music motif explodes.  S3 is inspired by famous music studios, and looks like an executive listening room.  Inside this amazingly decorated club are many images of popular RL music studios.  A stage with playable instruments fronts the room, and space to relax and listen to borders the open dance area.

Studio III is being opened by two of SL’s top DJs, DJ RoknMan Zepp and DJ Rob Skytower. The phenomenal RoknMan Zepp, known for his amazing collection of blues and rock, has worked with The Muses since they opened their first club in January 2021. He’s been DJing for five years and has recorded two albums in RL, which include both covers and songs he’s written. DJ RoknMan Zepp played with The Pamlico Sound Band. His RL music sometimes shows up in his SL DJ sets. To say he’s one of the best DJs in SL is a masterpiece of understatement.

DJ Rob Skytower is a seasoned, classic rock DJ.  Rob is well-known for his decade on the rock and metal circuit. He has ventured out a different direction of late when he decided to try his hand at “ballroom” to help a friend fill a set time. Today he has one of the most unique ballroom sets on the grid.  Bob Seger, Benny Goodman, Aerosmith, Frank Sinatra and Norah Jones might all be heard in the same hour.  DJ Rob likes being a “project DJ”.  He will take any idea or theme and create the desired set.  “I work well with managers, owners, and other staff to make sure that everyone leaves my sets going ‘WOW, never heard those songs that way’.”

This night’s sets will include some DJ Rok’s recordings, as well some recordings of SL’s beloved Maxx Sabertooth, courtesy of his RL surviving family. 

While this opening celebration is DJ-driven, Studio III aims to be an intimate venue for live acts.  Starting small, one Monday a month, the venue will offer live acts. Once S3 is up and running, an expansion of the number of performances and artists is expected.

The Studio III opening is Tuesday, June 22.  DJ Rok starts things off at 6PM and DJ Rob continues the party from 8-10 PM.  See you there!

Spotlight on Dallas Winslet- A performer of Blues and Beyond- Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

Dallas Winslet is originally from Texas but is currently residing in Arizona.  He has been performing in Second Life since 2009 but his experience in music goes way beyond that. His genre covers mainly Blues from the ’60s to the ’90s or whatever is requested by his fans. You may even get some rock, pop, and country. The SL Enquirer caught up with Dallas to learn more about his background and what he has been up to on the grid.

SLE: Dallas, First and foremost thank you for supporting the SL Enquirer for all these years. Your shout-outs at concerts when we show up do not go unnoticed. Can you tell our fans a little about your background in music in real life and how you discovered Second Life?

 

Dallas: I found that music is in my soul and it rocks me every day. It is like a bad itch that is always there. and it has saved my life, made me feel like a frog who became a king.

 

SLE: Music is definitely a therapy in many ways for people. Not only has it helped you but by performing for others it boosts their spirits. I would say your genre is manly blues and sometimes you step off the beaten path to perform what your fans request. Can you describe your genre style?

 

Dallas: Anything from A to Z and everything in between

 

SLE: I want our readers to step into your cowboy boots to see it through your eyes. What’s it like performing in front of a Second Life audience? After a decade of performances behind you, do you still get nervous during a show?

 

Dallas: Sometimes if the equipment isn't working but normally I am just fine.

 

SLE:  Yeah, you don’t strike me as the shy and nervous type. You are more of a straight-to-the-point kinda guy.  Every performer was inspired somewhere in their life that helps mold them into their music career. Who were your inspirations and why?

 

Dallas: Elvis, Michael,  Neil, my friend Charles these folks were kings in their particular genre. my friend Charles is a master at the guitar,

 

SLE: You named dropped some legends there. Have you ever duel streamed with any of the SL legends? If not, who would you like to perform with?

 

Dallas: Yes I have and will again. Savannah, Maribol, Trinity, and my friend Charles. 

 

SLE: One of the most asked questions from our readers to ask performers is, when in the shower, what is the go-to song you are belting out while getting squeaky clean?

 

Dallas: Baby I need your love

 

 

SLE: I’ll leave that alone lol.  Do you play any instruments?  If not, is there one that you would love to learn?

 

Dallas: Piano, slide steels guitar, I would like to learn them both as well. I am not all that good at them lol.

 

SLE: At least you tried. What venues do you usually perform at? We want some name-dropping.

 

Dallas: SideCar lounge, Purple Rose, Grapevine, Mountain lion, Rock Stage, Brazen head, Aqua. I also like to go to Terry’s Place for Open Mic on Fridays when I have the chance. Great crowd.

 

SLE: How can venues book your shows?

CREATIONS PARK GOES "BACK TO THE FUTURE" - Charity Event for Team Fox Parkinson's Research-June 1-August 1

This summer, Creations Park is offering a totally new experience to celebrate its 10th year of raising funds for Team Fox.   Over the space of 2 months, visitors can immerse themselves in Hill Valley, the iconic town square featured in the original "Back to the Future" movie.

Michael J Fox, who starred in the movie was diagnosed with Parkinson's at the age of 29. He established his foundation in 2000 and Team Fox has since become the largest non-profit funder of Parkinson's Disease research in the world, having funded more than $1 billion in research programs to date.  

Creations Park was founded in 2011 by Barbie Alchemi and her mother Fran Seranade; not only to raise funds for Team Fox but to shed a light on Parkinson's Disease and provide information and support for the individuals whose lives it touched.  Over the last 10 years, over 500K USD has been raised in SL through their work for the charity.   This year also marks the 60th birthday of Michael J Fox so a double celebration was in order.

The entire town square of Hill Valley has been carefully recreated on a special parcel for visitors.  Within this space, there will be a special sales event with retro themes, 1950s music and dance, an exclusive Mini-Hunt, and a photography competition with a 1000L prize.  There will also be an "Enchantment Under the Sea" prom dance on the 9th of June held in the newly refurbished Savoy Ballroom.

"We hope that visitors will enjoy themselves dressing up and feeling like they are really a part of the time period, or even as if they are in the movie."

June 23rd - It's a Tiny Musical INVASION LIVE at Terry's 1st Annual Birthday Bash!

 

Never say that big things don't come in SMALL packages! Join us on Wednesday, June 23rd, and celebrate Terry's one-year anniversary beginning at 5pm SLT with a special three-hour musical event, kicking off with live music from Songbird Sorbet!! Beloved by the tinies community of Second Life as well as many others, Songbird is a cover singer of Pop, Rock 'n Roll, and Country.  She has an SL career that spans over 12 years.

"First off, I love being a tiny bunny in Raglan Shire in a virtual world called Second Life (SL).  For those of you who think virtual worlds are a joke, a waste of time, or where questionable activities go on, you're entitled to your opinion, but it's not to say that that's how it is for everyone else.  Secondly, I don't spend exorbitant amounts of time in SL that consumes my time in real life (RL) or interferes with my responsibilities in RL, so no worries there.

Thirdly, the growth and knowledge I've gained by being a resident of SL and more specifically Raglan Shire, has been TREMENDOUS.  My confidence, my creativity, and my talents have been perfected to the point where it's carried over to my self-esteem in RL. This is truly amazing as my journey towards self-confidence and self-acceptance has been one that I've been on for most of my life.  I've read books, gone to professionals, meditated, done Yoga, blah, blah, blah, but the skills I've attained in SL and the encouragement from tiny and biggy friends alike has been the catalyst to self-appreciation and self-love long missing in my real-life existence. Yes, I have religious beliefs that have helped along the way as well."

Next up at 6pm SLT is the amazing Keeba Tammas and her backup band, the Tiny Maniacs!  A professional vocalist for many years, Keeba was in a variety of bands in the eighties. She also did voiceovers for cartoons and commercials. A seasoned performer in SL as well, Keeba is one of the most sought-after female vocalists available. From the first song to the last she delivers a power-packed punch ... belting out her songs with tremendous energy and sheer raw talent.

Keeba streams from the Midwest and serves up an extremely eclectic repertoire of music: jazz, blues, rock, pop, disco, punk, folk...

"At the age of four my mother plopped me on a stage, at the age of 15, I began recording voices for cartoon and commercial work. I put myself through college by recording jingles, traveling the country performing at fairs, malls, and amusement parks I spent the 80's singing lead in bands. Real Life called me away from music but now this amazing world we call Second Life gives me the opportunity to perform once again.
 
With my husband's help, I have created the vast majority of tracks I use and those that are not my own have been "enthusiastically tweaked". My musical tastes are extremely eclectic: jazz, blues, rock, pop, disco, punk, folk... I will tailor the set to your venue and taste.

 I have been performing in SL since 2007 and most recently have been performing with my backup band, "The Tiny Maniacs"! Actually, I am starting to wonder if they perform with me--or I perform with them!! I invite you to watch my descent into dementia!"

SL Drama- A Trend that continues across the grid- Stacey Cardalines Reporting...

 

As often as we see "SL is virtual, but there is a real person behind that avatar" statements in people's profiles, and as right as they may be, we also have to remember that SL is a game that we play for fun. No one wants any Drama in a game we are playing for fun, and all but the most sociopathic among us seek to avoid Drama. It doesn't always work out that way, even for well-meaning people.

Life is not One Size Fits All. What you think is funny may offend some other person. You, in turn, may take offense to them casting judgement on you. Some third party may want you both to shut the uck fup. There may be some fourth party who doesn't like the way the third party looks, and there may even be a fifth party who jumps in just for the hell of it. The next thing you know, we have a World War going on.

Drama can be born of innocent circumstances. I happen to know a journalist/dancer named, uhm, Tracey who got into Drama once without evil intent. She worked at an island sim where there were certain taboo behaviors were overlooked, but not all of them. A vendor who does business on the island would throw her outfits now and then, with the dancer getting free gear and the vendor getting free advertising. Symbiotic as can be. Sounds pretty drama free so far, right?

One day, Tracey got a new outfit from the vendor, who is sort of in BDSM territory. "GERMAN SLUT" was the brand name. What could go wrong?

There are many sorts of German sluts (and nice German girls, we hate no one here at the SLE). The field is narrowed somewhat if you take into account that the vendor wishes to reach a global market, 99.9999% of whom would be unable to distinguish between different sorts of German sluts. "Bengesko niamso,"as the Gypsies say.

In the end, after the marketers and Roma get through with it, you have three archetypes. "Beer Hall Maiden," which looks like you'd have to be named Helga or Brunhilde to wear it effectively. There is the "East German Stasi Officer" look, which Tracey thought she was getting, and the "Wehrmacht/Rommel" look, which- unfortunately for Tracey- was the immediate ancestor of the East German Stasi look, fashion-wise.

A quick glance would assuage most concerns. There wasn't going to be enough of Tracey covered to offend many people. Bra, thong, garters, stockings, fishnet... and a nifty little hat. Not a swastika to be seen. The kind of outfit a girl could throw on without worrying too much about and hop out onto a dance pole in front of a crowded club.

Unfortunately, the "nifty little hat" had an Iron Cross on it. The Iron Cross is a military decoration that goes back to when Prussia was fighting Napoleon, but it was also popular in WWII. The Germans were busy people during WWII, and it is not a far leap at all from Nazi Regalia to Nazi to Holocaust. 

Remember the hypothetical person we were discussing earlier, who comes on to SL hoping to have a good time and avoid any drama at all? Well, he found some drama, dancing right in front of him in a Let's Glorify The Holocaust costume. He is well-versed in Nazi regalia, to the point where he would recognize an Iron Cross, even if it was on a short-but-not-that-unattractive dancer who was 95% nude. Unfortunately again for Tracey, the hat was the last thing she took off.

Boy, do people get angry when you dress like a Nazi these days! "The dancer had no idea what she was wearing and had no intent of offending anyone" matters very little in those circumstances. It is never going to be a Great Tip Getting Day if more than one of your customers is saying "Maybe they should toss <you> in an oven." Again, people log on to SL for Drama Free stuff, not to have a Nazi dancing in front of them, making casual small talk.
