A Look at Some Venues offering Different Music Genres in Second Life- Nena Dreadlow Reporting

I love going out to dance, explore and finding different music venues to visit. Like most people I love all types of music genres but, what I love the most is exploring the different sims here in SL and listening to what I like.
Here are some venues I recommend so you can get an idea of what type of places you can visit, listen to music and have a great time too.

Black Horse Country Club

This Sim is all country!! From the music to the venue, which plays the best country music. The place is filled with people line dancing and socializing. The staff and host are wonderful.  Be sure to join the group so you can find out when events are happening.

Ohana Rock Club

Ohana Rock Club in my opinion one of the top clubs here on SL. I was greeted right away from the host and felt welcomed. This music here is rock.  Ohana Rock Club was filled with lots of people dancing and having a good time. Right away you feel comfortable being a part of the crowd.  Join the group for info on events.  Ohana Rock Club also has a Facebook page.

Dance Island
“Real Dj’s,Real Music,Real People”

Dance Island has a large beautiful club. They play techno, disco and electro type of music here. They were also voted “Best Dance club’” . If you love to dance and meet new people this is a place to come check out.

End Of Days

Once you enter the sim make sure you change your environment to midnight for the best effect.   If you love the  Goth/ vampire theme this is the club for you. It is set inside a castle and is very dark and mysterious.

The Dirty South

When you first see the name you might think It has to be a county bar right? But it’s not. They play all kinds of music from rock, pop, hip hop and so much more. It is inside of a cute barn. If you're like me and you're looking for a nice place to hang out with all types of music then this is the place for you.

Of course there are more to Second Life then just clubs. They also have Theaters, Opera Houses, Concert halls and even places to sing your heart out on Karaoke!
Check these places out.

Theatre on the Hill

One of the theaters I visited was “Theatre on the hill” where they perform Broadway shows.  The theater is set over  water and  beautiful!

Be sure to check out this venue if you're looking for a great show.

The Oval

The Oval Concert hall features live music from Opera, Dj’s and live performers. It sits on the hill and has a unique way for you to get around the sim. If you are looking for a place to have a nice relaxing evening then I recommend visiting this sim.

Firestone Karaoke

One of the many places you can visit to showcase your voice is “Firestone Karaoke”.  To get started all you have to do is touch the board and follow the instructionsI think karaoke is a great way to practice your favorite songs and have fun with others who like the karaoke scene.

As you can see there are a lot of music venues and genres to choose from. Whatever you choose there is always something to do for everyone in Second Life.

What people will do for love? - Lacy Muircastle reporting ...

Please note that this is an opinion piece, and does not represent the views or opinions of the publisher.

On the back of the release of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie last week, and the storm in a teacup it caused, with those saying it condones abuse etc. I thought I would poke around the lifestyle in Second Life.

I rather like vanilla, don’t you?  Added to milk it makes a refreshing drink, when baking, added to cakes it makes the house smell amazing, but it appears that vanilla has other connotations attached to it that have nothing to do with flavoured milk or an ingredient in cakes.  I understand that to be ‘vanilla’ means to have boring or mundane sexual preferences.  Clearly I am boring then.

I have a friend, a platonic friend by the way, who told me “Oh you are so nice, vanilla, but nice.” A bit of a backhanded compliment to say the least.  I in turn asked said friend to enlighten me as to what it was he thought I was missing out on.  He then proceeded to take me on a tour of BDSM and D/s sims and venues available in Second Life.  Who knew there were so many and that ‘the lifestyle’ was so prevalent in SL?  But I was still not convinced that it was something I could get in to.

Out in the real world BDSM and the D/s lifestyle, think Fifty Shades of Grey, are not very obvious, giving it the air of being erotic and ever so naughty. In my opinion it makes more sense in RL than in SL, as from what I understand, the main thrust (forgive the pun) of it is all about control and domination, with a side order of pain and submission.  Just typing this makes my hair stand on end, I absolutely hate the thought of being punished for something that is supposed to be mutually satisfying and enjoyable, and therefore I am not a good candidate to be a submissive in the true sense of the word, and handing over total control of myself to another person is unthinkable to me.

Okay so now you understand that I DON’T get the concept of the BDSM lifestyle, therefore I asked a couple of people I know who do live the lifestyle to tell me what the appeal is.

From a SL submissive’s point of view:

LM: In your opinion what does the D/s BDSM life style entail and personally what is its appeal?

The D/s part of the lifestyle came naturally for me, I have an innate desire to be controlled in almost every aspect of my daily life. Of course many decisions regarding my work must be made by me, but Master has given His approval on handling those parts of my life. The need to give control to my Master is soothing and is essential for my life's journey. I crave the strong hand of not only a Dominant, but of someone who truly cares about me and my well being. I am not a weak, fragile person, but a strong business woman, and with all that responsibility I tend to immerse myself in a world where I am guided by a partner who is larger, stronger, and wiser than myself.  It is only when I feel the bondage of the collar and the restraint of the leash that I am truly relaxed and at peace with myself and my environment. The Dominant in my life is a main focal point to my happiness, and therefore it is a pleasure to please him.

LM: Are they separate entities (so can you embrace the D/s lifestyle, without the BDSM elements) or are they irrevocably intertwined?

My personal opinion is no, D/s and BDSM do not go hand in hand. Many people I know do not engage in bondage, S & M, or pain play, and they simply live the D/s lifestyle, which is giving control to one partner. I also know of people that enjoy BDSM play but cease D/s relations after the scene collar comes off.

“It’s hard for an educated woman to turn her head off. That's part of the joy of being a submissive. None of the decisions are yours. When you can't refuse anything and can't even move, those voices in your head go silent. All you can do, and all you are permitted to do, is feel. ”

From a RL married sub to her Dom on Valentine's Day ....

Inside the bedroom, I am His. Outside, we are great friends, partners and spouses. He completes me, he makes me whole.

Sir:  This is our 14th Valentine’s Day together.  Time flies when you are having fun.  Thank you for being there always.  You are my strength when I am weak, my comfort when I am down, my courage when I am afraid.  Thank you for being patient with me through the years and teaching me to embrace my sub.  Thank You for waiting for me to join you on this journey.  I crave your touch, the sound of your voice as you say “Good Girl,” the look on your face as you come, the Dom that wants to ravage His kneeling sub, thToe delicious pain entwined with pleasure as you play with me, the intricate rope work and beautiful scenes you bring to life, and the unique flavor you bring to our dynamic.  Thank you for your Dom – it is a most beautiful and special gift of self.  Happy Valentine’s Day my Love!  Your SFT.

From a Dominant’s point of view:

LM : In your opinion what does the D/s BDSM life style entail and personally what is its appeal?

There is a somewhat common belief that Dominance entails a lot of shouting and bullying people around, and that Dominants should be belligerent and confrontational, always eager to get their own way at the expense of others. If that were true, then this lifestyle would certainly hold no appeal to me.

What I believe real Dominance requires are traits that are more subtle and constructive, such as empathy, understanding, patience, humor, and a strong urge to care and protect the submissive, as well as guide and teach her. He must remain firm in his behavior, but willing to adjust and adapt as the situation demands. He must be patient with his submissive, but at the same time insistent that she fulfill her obligations and duties to the letter. He must project strength of character and confidence, but at the same time be able to laugh at himself and at all of life's inanities. It's a tightrope act that many new people in the lifestyle may not realize lies behind the somewhat simplistic facade of what Dominance means.

Slipping into the D/s lifestyle was very natural for me. For example, I am the oldest in the family, and I have always had the strong and innate urge to protect and care for my younger brothers and
sister. This was true even when I was very young, when most siblings tend to be competitive towards one another. My mother told us how one day a classmate in elementary school was pushing around my youngest brother, and I had immediately confronted the aggressor and told him
to never to do that again, and this had been enough to dissuade the bully from bothering my brother.

Finally, D/s appeals to me because it creates a structured orderly framework that enhances and supports the relationship between two (or more) people. As such, it is not essential to my life, merely a tool. But in the context of something greater, like Love, D/s is synergistic and provides an extremely satisfying way to investigate and understand and explore the many niches and secret hollows of a relationship.

LM: Are they separate entities (so can you embrace the D/s lifestyle, without the BDSM elements) or are they irrevocably intertwined?

In my opinion, D/s and the sexual aspects of BDSM are not irrevocably intertwined. Many people engage in D/s interactions, but without the baser aspects of the lifestyle - people can and do derive pleasure from D/s without the addition of sexual play. Saying that, I personally enjoy the full range of BDSM.

“So you’ll get your kicks by exerting your will over me.” “It’s about gaining your trust and your respect, so you’ll let me exert my will over you. I will gain a great deal of pleasure, joy, even in your submission. The more you submit, the greater my joy – it’s a very simple equation.” “Okay, and what do I get out of this?” He shrugs and looks almost apologetic. “Me,” he says simply. ”
E.L. James, Fifty Shades of Grey

So about condoning abuse then, like most controversial issues, you will have those for and those against, and in reality some of the things that go on in the real world make anything in Fifty Shades of Grey pale into insignificance.  In my opinion the real attraction to the 'lifestyle' is control, and if you think about who really has the control in a D/s relationship?  In my opinion it is the submissive who has the control, but in the end it all boils down to that very complicated issue of love and what people will do for love.

Epic Gamer Radio- Newest Virtual Radio in Second Life but not New to Virtual Gamers- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

EGR was founded by Michael Bishop (trupod) and launched on January 3, 2014 in other virtual worlds such as The Secret World, Guild Wars 2, Star Trek Online  and other grids EGR Dj’s are members of. A year later Michael brought Epic Gamer Radio into Second Life where he continues to share his passion for virtual worlds and bring these communities together using music.  Together with his dedicated team, they offer a variety of genres as well as affordable radio advertising options.  SLE sat down with Michael Bishop to learn more about EGR and their plans in Second Life.

Interview with Michael Bishop

Who founded Epic Gamer Radio and what is the inspiration behind this online radio station?

Michael Bishop founded Epic Gamer Radio in the hopes of bring the different communities of gamer's together who not only are passionate about the games that they play but also are about going out into their own communities to help anyone in need.

What would you like to accomplish with EGP in Second Life?
Epic Gamer Radio was founded on the basis of building an ever expanding community that exists in many areas of gaming, and online organizations. We would like to carry that mission into Second Life and continue to grow as a company and a community. We will not only be enterprising ourselves as a radio station but also as a public service, and a great entertainment venue. Not only will we be offering music broadcasting, but we will also be offering advertisement services, as well as shopping space in our EGR Squared plaza.  We are a group of volunteers trying to serve and expand our community and these are some of the ways in which we will do so.

Where are you located in Second life? http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Sandcastle/186/133/24  Epic Gamer Radio home offices are located there, along with the Epic Gamer Radio open venue and shopping Square. We created this space so that people would have a place to throw parties, events, and of course get to know not only their favorite Djs but also the community of Epic Gamer Radio.

What type of events do you offer your fans at your headquarters? We have plans for a large array of events and activities at the land. There will be concerts, car shows, (something coming up soon here at EGR.) All of our out of world events that we hold will now be done in both places. With items that you can get in world like t-shirts, and other things, Its a very exciting time for the station and we are very happy with how the SL venture is unfolding.

What type of contests or charities does EGR participate in?
We have a yearly Charity event called Child's Play that we participate in. We are always searching for more ways to give back to the community, and we really hope to find more ways to do so in the future.

Medium stores are 200L and have access to 100 prim, and small stores are 100L and have access to 50 prims. They are really awesome, and the entire look of the sim is wonderful. It’s got a truly small downtown feeling.

Who can residents contact for a tour of rental property?
If anyone would like to tour any of shops, or anywhere on the sim please contact: trupod resident or Jessielynnrose resident.

The Lyrical Cafe Poetry Club Announces its Grand Reopening this Saturday February 21st, 2015 at 6 pm SLT!

The Lyrical Cafe Poetry Club owned and operated by Kamille Kamala has reopened its doors! This unique venue has been a staple on the SL grid off and on since December of 2009. Kamille is back from a much needed break and she has been replenished with a brand new vigor for poetry and the spoken word arts.

The Lyrical has seen some of the best and brightest poets on the grid. Some of the most talented poets have graced the stage bringing with them their creative babies while they have entertained our patrons over the years.

The Lyrical is not a biased place of business, we are happy to allow anyone of all ranges of talent to come showcase their work. We believe that only YOU can tell your story, and tell it perfectly. We are all in the grips of our own human experience and during our events we are all in the same frame of mind. Our minds are turned to the appreciation of the Arts.  And, some of us like to express ourselves using the medium of spoken word. If that sounds like you, you are welcome to come speak your mind and share your art here at the Lyrical.

Kamille is a published poet in several literary magazines, anthologies, and online publications over the years. Her poetry has been described as highly political and ultra feminine with a funky artistic twist. Kamille used the poetry medium to release the pain she had in her early life, and as she wrote each poem they became somewhat of a mile marker for her past, stating "I was here" poetically.

Poetry did more to help her heal the pain than any therapist could ever do. After she found a solid landing spot to land on emotionally, she knew she had to share it with the world. Kamille wanted to help others by giving them a virtual venue to express their creative feats. She wanted to show others the way to go so that they too can become more culturally fulfilled.

This is when the Lyrical Cafe Poetry Club was born close to six years ago. The Lyrical has had its share of musicians, singers, and other performers as well. At one point, it even had an Art Gallery for those who wanted to peruse the venue even more getting to know art in other forms. There were sculptures and paintings of all kinds, some even created just for the Lyrical.

With our new style and newly acquired drive, the Lyrical's doors are going to be open each Tuesday night at Six pm SLT. These events will be hosted by Kamille and we invite anyone that would like to share their work to stop by. We are extending a very special invitation to those who love to listen. We realize that the audience is key to the Lyrical's success as a poetry venue here in Second Life.

Overall, you will not regret your time here at the Lyrical. We are hoping that you will come check us out and stop by very often. We want you to become an official part of the Lyrical Cafe's family and allow us to become a weekly regular in your Second Life schedule.
