Although mesh bodies are expensive for most SL residents, they have been growing in popularity and becoming indispensable for those who want to keep an updated avatar.
For many people, dealing with anything mesh is difficult.  It’s said that it’s hell trying to manipulate these bodies and trying to dress or change clothes takes much longer.

People also have a rough time with the numerous adjustments that need to be made to match skin tones and hide parts of the body. The HUD system that comes with the bodies can be confusing and is a headache for most.  However, despite the criticisms, the evolution that is the mesh body is a very good project and let’s face it, who doesn’t have dreams of acquiring one.

One question that people ask is: "Which are the best mesh bodies in SL?" The best answer is: there are a number of mesh bodies on the market and most of them are fairly similar, although each has its own charm. You should look for what is best for you and works best for what you want and are looking for.

The purchase of a mesh body is an expensive investment, so ideally you should try a demo first.  These are available through the stores, but you need to pray that you do not need support, because it is difficult and exhausting. Try the body for a few hours and make sure that you are comfortable with it to make an informed decision before buying.

To help with this decision, do tests with the DEMOS, observe the characteristics and limitations of each body, see the pros and cons in all of them.  There will certainly be a mesh body out there for you; it all depends on your taste and how much you are willing to spend.

Here are some of the elements normally included in the packs.  You will need to get your head around these in order to make an informed opinion on your prospective new mesh body:

HUDS - Each mesh body comes with a HUD which controls certain characteristics (showing layers, skin applicators, etc.). The buttons "mask mode" under the tattoo and clothing layers are there to use if you have two layers. Some Hud's are easier to handle than others, but this is a step to be overcome to the extent that you become familiar with the HUD;

Alpha - Every mesh body comes with a selection of alpha cuts that make possible the invisible parts of the body, for a better adjustment of mesh clothing. This is very important because the mesh body cannot wear an alpha system like the standard body can. You will notice that some huds are better defined than others and there are many differences in the alphas cuts, which may make easier or hinder the adjustment of clothing;

Omega applicators - the omega is unique universal applicator that allows to apply to clothing for any party or body organs. Many skin designers and designers’ applicator / tattoo are making items Omega, then it is advisable that the body mesh is compatible with the Omega system;

Clothing and accessories - it is important to check which mesh their bodies SL favorite designers are developing, clothes and accessories. acquire the mesh body ready for more shopping. The stores offer items for most of the mesh bodies, and for each there are more options than others.

Polyamory is the practice of a loving relationship among more than two people with the knowledge and consent of those involved in it. For practitioners, it’s a philosophy of life that is about loving several people at the same time and not in a possessive way.  At the same time being honest, responsible and ethical are of paramount importance.

The Polyamory defends the possibility of being involved in intimate relationships with several partners simultaneously. It's not just sex by the way, sex is even not needed in this kind of practice.  People in to polyamory want to establish deep emotional bonds with several partners at the same time, but with an emphasis on respect and trust among practitioners.

Agreements between poly-couples, as well as the poly-format relations are diverse, according to the needs of each. Being with two, three or a thousand people in emotional relationships, depends on the will, the desire and agreement between those involved. People like to think of themselves as sexually adventurous and liberal, especially in Second Life, but the fact is most human beings are territorial and do not like to share, especially someone they are in love with.

Furthermore, in many societies poly-amorous relationships may be against the norms of behavior accepted by society, even when they are regulated by local law. Many poly people are in the closet for fear of discrimination and social alienation. For this reason, practitioners help each other with the support of a virtual network.

If you ask people about what they like the most about Second Life, they will certainly have a variety of answers; however, they all share one thing in common: Second Life allows us to do amazing things and often what is impossible for most of us in real life. We can be astronauts, visit an alien world or travel back in time, or visit a place of the past. Or we can, for example, fly on a plane, dive in the ocean, go bungee jumping or even dance ballet.

The fact is that virtual reality enhances people’s lives and their possibilities. More and more advantages are being gradually discovered, and are showing great promise. Virtual reality can put pilots in training as if they were in heaven and can also provide people, including those with some forms of disability, experiences that they cannot have in the real world.

The great advantage of virtual reality is its ability to create full immersion situations, carrying people to a fully virtualized world.  In practice, what this means is that the virtual content sends stimulation so that the user perceives them through their senses. Virtual reality enables the creation of scenarios where the brain understands that mind and body are in the same sensory plane.

With virtual reality, you can go anywhere without even having to leave your bed. Many disabled people have to stay long term at home, idle. Having to go through life without being able to experience all that life has to offer. In Second Life virtual world, a person is able to, for example, experience (virtually speaking) the outdoors, cycling, surfing or walking on the beach. The fact that the brain perceives and processes the stimulus as "real" enables numerous applications. Researchers are increasingly seeing the therapeutic potential of interaction "Brain - virtual world".

Burn victims, for example, that suffer from excruciating and constant pain that intensifies during the treatment of wounds or during physical therapy. To help them relieve this pain, a virtual game where the player must throw snowballs at penguins, congesting pathways responsible for the sense of pain was created. In some cases this therapy has had better results than that of morphine.

Many other experiments have been done with the application of virtual reality.  In this virtual world we can forget our pain and give freedom to our imagination and fantasies.  In this world, people with disabilities can also have wings and fly, which can contribute to fun moments of relaxation and leisure.

Can Social simulation in Second Life help in simulating social systems?

Social simulation is a research field that applies computational methods to study issues in the social sciences. The issues explored include problems in psychology, organisational behaviour, sociology, political science, economics, anthropology, geography, engineering, archaeology and linguistics

Second Life was created to offer individuals the virtual opportunity to be who they want to be, and to do what they can’t do in real life.  Over and above the entertainment value, studies have shown that social simulation ‘games’ can influence different areas of knowledge, particularly in the educational context.

It has been proven that online games are guided by well-defined psycho-pedagogical objectives that can be used to develop a wide range of cognitive abilities, e.g. creativity and spatial vision, and may also be used to rehabilitate different cognitive capabilities of injured patients.

As with other games, Second Life enables people to build a virtual environment, create and manage "things" that can perform various activities such as, for example, work and interact with people from different cultures and also establish social and affective relationships.

The virtual environment has enabled researchers to recruit participants for various surveys.  To watch them and interview them as you would in a real life scenario.  Therefore making possible its use in social simulation.

We can highlight some psychosocial aspects that interaction in Second Life enables e.g., the absence of any limitation to establish relationships with avatars. The player can choose what to do with their avatar. To create emotional bonds and to experience different situations and emotional states with other players, and to judge the events according to their moral principles.

Besides entertainment, the main appeal of games like Second Life, is that it allows users to create and participate in unpublished scenarios. In this environment it’s possible for researchers to simulate a conflict scenario in which a group of players experience the need for rules, share and preserve resources for the group's survival and then evaluate the reactions of the group, before that scenario.

The fact that Second Life includes people from different parts of the world with the premise of entertainment that enables the establishment of social ties, the emotional involvement of the users, and the union of people enables the creation of strategic planning.   It becomes an excellent tool that can aid in social simulation experiments.

Thus Second Life, as with other games, is guided by well-defined objectives, but which can contribute to a wide range of research applications and diagnostics.

Many studies point to the social isolation and individualism that immersion in the virtual world can cause in people, but actually experiencing situations in virtual worlds is uniting people who could not be attached otherwise, for cultural reasons, or because of distance.

Thus, computer-mediated socialization is a reality that can contribute to many studies using social simulation as a useful tool.

The SL Enquirer and Lanai Jarrico Turns 11 Today!

In 2005, Lanai Jarrico rezzed into Second Life on this day and brought with her an entertainment news source she began in another virtual world in October of 2004.

The original TSO Enquirer focused on news being created by residents in The SIMS Online. It was at the beginning of virtual world gaming. In early 2005, she was asked by fans to bring her newspaper into Second Life. After some thought, she migrated to a new virtual world called Second Life and changed the name to The SL Enquirer.

Since 2005, SLE has provided Second Life residents with entertainment news, spotlight features, event announcements and a variety of topics related to a unique virtual world culture. We’ve seen many changes through the years, watched businesses and venues come and go and seen SL switch hands from CEO to CEO.

It has been our pleasure growing and changing with the times, meeting our fans and being an ongoing staple of the SL community over the past decade.
