Linden Lab confirms project name for new virtual experience platform

Project Sansar is the internal code name Linden Lab has been using for the new platform, and they plan to use the name externally in its early stages (like the invite-only alpha they begin this summer). However, this is just the project name, and LL anticipate changing it prior to launching the platform to everyone.

This twitter was tweeted on the 5th of May 2015.

Calling all sailors, aviators and role players - Lacy Muircastle reporting ...

The Seychelles Isles secures additional open water

IrishGent's relentless negotiations with Linden Labs has paid off in the form of an additional 13 sims of open water.

The sims will start going live during the course of next week.

The proposed use for these sims is sailing, aviation, and battle roleplay.  All things being equal it is possible that additional sims will be added to the initial 13 towards the end of the year, bringing the total to 30 additional open water sims.

More info with regard to administering the use of the water will be available in due course.

In the meantime come on over and see what the Seychelles Isles can offer you.

The Story of Miss S.: How She Lost Everything on SL and Won it Back – Stareyes Galaxy Reporting ....

One hears horror stories of people getting the short end of the deal on Second Life™ (SL) many times. You wouldn't think it happens to seasoned SL veterans until you hear of one, especially someone who’s closer to you than just a casual acquaintance. This is the story of “Miss S.” who lost her life savings as well as her firstborn. By prudent record-keeping, she was able to win her assets back, and is now happily reunited with “J,” her baby boy. Here’s how it all happened.

Miss S. says she was looking for a family, a long-time aspiration of hers on SL. She met a gentleman who subsequently changed partners, and became friends with her new “mom”. She in turn had a son whom she introduced to Miss S. They hit off so well that Miss S. and the “son” partnered in August.  Miss S. tells: “We clicked together and he was so sweet person. I heard his voice once or twice, but never heard the mom and the son talking on same moment. We talked on Skype.”

SL TOS a storm in a teacup? - Lacy Muircastle reporting ....

Is it all just a storm in a tea cup, or is it far more ominous than that .... Recently much has been written in various blogs and in various forums about the latest changes to the Second Life TOS by Linden Labs and in some cases the reaction to these changes have been to the detriment of the Second Life community at large, most notably is the recent resignation of Bryn Oh from the Linden Endowment for the Arts committee. Bryn, who is a brilliant artist and content creator in her own right, but who also has been an advocate for other budding artists and content creators in SL is quoted as saying  "After the new TOS came out I had to decide if I still felt comfortable being associated with the LEA, not the members but rather the concept.  One thing I do in both first life and Second Life is try to convince artists that they and their art are worth something.  You see, artists are quite often taken advantage of.  Anyway, long story short I have decided to resign from the Linden Endowment for the Arts due to the current TOS."

Second Life © Celebrates 10 Years of Creativity –Gates open June 16th!- Stareyes Galaxy Reporting…

Stareyes riding the pod

The summer of 2013 will be remembered as the 10th anniversary of Second Life ©. The SL 10 B Community Celebration has been working discreetly behind the scenes to bring you the most astounding 22-sim fairground bursting with the creativity of avatars. Stareyes Galaxy had the privilege to preview the fairgrounds and talk with some of the personnel and exhibitors on the eve of the opening.

Arriving at the welcome area, I was expectant but also a bit hesitant, having already heard of the numerous exhibits to be seen at the SL 10 B CC fairgrounds. As I walked over to the nearest pod ride station, I quickly realized how little imagination I had had, as the sights started to unravel all around me. The pod rides are divided to the East and the West Exhibit tracks, and taking the ride, the visitor gets information on the exhibits located adjacent to the track. There is a HUD to control the speed of the pod, and you can get off anywhere you wish.

The sheer number of exhibits left me breathless, and soon I was experiencing “fairground frenzy”, only missing a stick of candy floss to tangle my hair in. The exhibits range from commercial to the artful, showing all aspects of SL creativity. Ethnic groups, charities, entertainment - all are represented for a good day’s family fun. The sims are “G”-rated, so I do advise discretion.

Yavanna Llanfair

I talked with the creator of the pods, Yavanna Llanfair, who said she does these as a service to the SL 10 B celebration. Her exhibit tells about the history of the pods, how they came about, and the basic principles of how they work. “This is the third SL  B I have run the pods. It’s a big responsibility, but I love that sort of responsibility – something I have to get right,” she told me at her exhibit. She doesn’t sell the pods that also run routes on mainland, but she does sell the scripts to make the pods run.

SL Newser: Most Third-Party Linden Exchange Services Close, Only Podex and AnsheX Remain-Bixyl Shuftan Reporting...

In the aftermath of Linden Labs changing it's Terms of Service concerning Third Party exchangers of Linden dollars, just about all have closed their doors. A number gave statements saying they  were wary of the Lab's wrath, such as the DX Exchange, "the TOS gives us a 30 day period … However, we so realize that with blocking our avatars Linden Lab can disable our business within seconds. We also realize that we put our clients at risk to lose their Lindens in case we annoy Linden Lab." CrossWorlds stated that they would complete orders that had already been placed. But most were no longer making new transactions.

Recently, Michi sat down for an interview, and talked about a number of subjects concerning Luskwood, the Grid over the years, and Linden Lab.

SL Newser Commentary: Linden Lab Is Destroying It's Newfound Trust

Longtime users of Second Life are all too familiar with the days of M Linden. Before him, Second Life was truly seen as "Your World, Your Imagination." But then, Linden Lab began making a number of questionable moves that didn't seem to make any sense, except possibly for short term profits at the expense of long term, or just made no sense at all. People began to have less and less faith in the Lab to run the virtual world in a competent manner. The doubt was to the point among some as to question any new move Linden Lab would make out of fear they'd just screw it up and end up making the Grid worse off.  Read More
