Griefers or Lag? Which One Interrupts the Quality of your Second Life More? -Becca Drascol Reporting

Perfection? Certainly not!

A virtual world is by far not perfect. We know coming in that we'll deal with many issues here and there. Sometimes the issue is player made and then sometimes it's something within control of that world's creators and thus out of a player’s hands per say. We all hate the thought of griefers and lag, yet both exist within SL. But if given the choice which one deserves more focus of being taken care of as a priority?

I went out around Second Life to ask residents just that.

Differing Views:

Becca Drascol: Should Linden Labs concentrate more on dealing with griefers or fixing lag?

EricTheBold Resident: Hmmmm that's a tough one. I think the griefing is a bigger issue though we don't get much of that here anymore but lag I think is the responsibility of the SIM Owner.

Becca Drascol: Should Linden Labs concentrate more on dealing with griefers or fixing lag?
MzSassyAngel Resident: I agree with that, They should.  Lag is horrible and greifers are too ..
Becca Drascol: Ok when given a choice though, which one should they focus more on, griefers or lag.
MzSassyAngel Resident: I have more lag issues then Greifers. I feel they should fix their lag issues since with that happening ppl crash and cannot enjoy SL.

Becca Drascol: Should Linden Labs concentrate more on dealing with griefers or fixing lag?
Naellai Resident: Absolutely with fixing lag. Griefers are annoying, but individual sim owners can handle them. Lag is something that hurts us all and makes people less likely to be in SL if they have to deal with it! Have only had TWO griefer experiences in almost three years. Lag is daily!

Becca Drascol: Should Linden Labs concentrate more on dealing with griefers or fixing lag?
Cammie Core: Griefers. Def'.
Becca Drascol: Care to elaborate a little on why?
Cammie Core: The griefing has gotten out of control and has reached new levels, graphic card crashing...etc.

Becca Drascol: Should Linden Labs concentrate more on dealing with griefers or fixing lag?
XxFoxyFrequencyxX Resident: Fixing lag, yep defo'. Griefers are easy to deal with.

To sum it up:

Rather you deal with constant griefings or constant lag or you're somewhere in the middle of both issues, lag and griefings are something we must all deal with when enjoying Second Life. I personally am in the middle of things. While I feel Linden Labs needs to focus on the lag issues which at times seem to crash me 3-4 times a day...I also feel it wouldn't hurt them to look more deeply into griefers. While talking to SL's residents I felt the vibe that people lean towards that which will make SL a more enjoyable experience.

If I had to give a choice on the matter at hand I would have to say lag as well. As a 5 year resident of SL, it seems more and more often I am not only crashed but my avatar will not load properly. Things such as my mesh head and my high heels shoes floating of my hands are just some humorous yet bothersome issues I face on a pretty regular basis. And of those I spoke with lag seemed a bigger issue to these folks than griefers.

WARNING! A Malicious Freebie is Making the Rounds in Second Life!

If you receive an object called “[L4L]-Gestures & Walkers (Freebies) <3″, delete it at once.

DO NOT Rez, or wear it this object. This malicious freebie will rez replicating micro cubes in YOUR name filling up a sim, which could cause it to crash and inadvertently making YOU the villain. The repercussions can be banning, and/or an AR being filed. Those cubes then send the malicious freebie to other avatars in the immediate area.

SLE POLICE REPORT: Aquadrom Games Scamming Gypsy on the Loose! Susan Baguier

Scammer Report: Con artist Susan Baguier owner of Aquadrom Games is being blacklisted by SLE for bilking residents out of thousands of lindens in game winnings.

Shame on you Susan!

It is a fact the Gambling in Second Life is “illegal” and against the terms of service. To rid the community of all Gambling Casinos, auto play scripts were disabled by Linden Lab. However, gaming venues still exist and the machines used today are considered games of skill. Unfortunately,  gamer scammer exist too and seem to find ways to bilk unsuspecting residents out of Lindens.

This week, it was reported to The SL Enquirer that Susan Baguier, owner and operator of Aquadrom Games has been doing some shady business practices and abusing the gaming industry in Second Life. Her scam starts off with spamming unsuspecting residents and conning them into visiting her gaming venue.

Susan allegedly entices her victims by setting some machines with smaller payouts to gain trust and victims move on to the higher payout machines where the cost is higher to play.

The unsuspecting victim plays with hopes of winning the big jackpot and then never receives the payout. Susan Baguier is being accused of acting as a concerned attendant and then logging off or reset the game and passing it off like it was an accident. Two victims of her scam have come forward to tell their story to SLE.

DEXLER CLUB CLOSES ON SECOND LIFE Nomads Aries Reporting…

July 25th, 2013 was a very sad day for some Second Life residents. It was the day the Dexler Club closed its doors. In SL, clubs come and go frequently and many venues fall by the wayside. A club's closing is not uncommon.

Dexler was a well established and long running club. If you have been in SL for some time, no doubt you have heard of the Dexler Club.

The Dexler club was owned by Karina Dexler and began in 2009. It wasn't long after that, Dexler took its place as one of the strongest, most professional clubs in the virtual world of SL. The club had a regular spot in the Destinations Guide; their traffic was “real traffic”, never padded by bots. Their music was varied; their djs and hosts were international and always professional. The staff treated everyone and each other with respect, politeness and kindness. Dexler ran like a well oiled machine 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until July 25th 2013.

BREAKING NEWS! There is a sloppy BOB THE BUILDER Griefer on the Loose!

SLE POLICE REPORT -Lucifer Skizm- 8/6/13

It has been reported to the SL Enquirer that a Bob the Builder type of griefer escaped from a local  SL quarantine  recently and has been running amuck across the grid. Witnesses say they saw what allegedly appears to be a local clown, Lucifer Skizm defacing property belonging to Glossom Jonesford.

Apparently Mr. Lucifer decided it was cool to take his shovel and start excavating land around a home that did not belong to him as well as board up windows and drop random objects and a  flea infested bed around like a slob.

The victim is shaken up and can’t imagine the atrocities that took place on that, in her quiet humble home. It appears this griefer used her residence to do his dirty deeds and leave his mark. Hazmat has been called to the scene.

Please be on high alert. Lucifer might be traveling with two goon accomplices; Annice coba and Demerol Texan. If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of this griefer, please don’t get to close.  Call your local pest control unit or take matters into your own hands by muting and banning this festering clown.

Food for Thought: Alternative Accounts also known as Alts – Ccoursey Reporting…

Have you ever approached an avatar on Second Life and they already knew you, talked as if they were your best friend, yet you’d never even heard the name mentioned before and/or they were really young compared to the people you are usually around?

Then they tell you they are the alternative avatar or another, an alt.  We’ve all met one, some don’t even own up to being alts.  When is it time to call your Second Life quits and began anew?   Is there a time?  Why do people make alts?  I’m only four months old and I had an alt for all of a week.  Yes, I was ready to disappear from current radar and drop off the current road I was taking.  A friend made a comment that really stuck with me though:  People who are alts are too cowardly to face the paths they have carved.  True or False?

Pet Peeves in Second Life – Ccoursey Reporting…

What gets under an Avatar’s skin?  When you log in day after day is there something that makes you cringe?

When you’re exploring Second Life do you have something that makes you want to just pull your hair?

What irritates people that play Second Life is the question I went to find out.  It seems, everyone had a similar answer that even I can nod and definitely agree with; Griefers.

I have one right now that keeps sending me group notices.  I can’t decline it. I can’t  even block it, and he just repeatedly sends them.  Linden Labs has refused to help even though I’m a premium member. I hate a griefer!

Dramedy: Like a Shadow in the Night- The Black Crow....

Like a shadow in the night…
Like a fly on the wall…
Like a hair in your soup…
I will see and hear everything you do, but you will not see me. I am…The Black Crow.

So it begins…my destiny as an SL douche fighter. I awoke to a new day. Scratch that, a new beginning. I put on my outfit, laced up my boots, and hid away my identity under the guise of a masked vigilante. I stepped in front of the mirror to give one good look at Second Life’s new hope for peace, and I have to admit…I look pretty good.

I took to the streets, fully determined to scour the vast, endless world of Second Life to find the scumbags that try to make this place a misery for us all. What I didn’t expect was to stumble upon such a disgusting example so soon.

The Black Crow is Watching! - A New Dramedy Section Coming to The SL Enquirer- Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

Second Life© may seem like “just a game” to some, but to many others it is more than a pastime.

It becomes an extension of people’s lives once they meet friends and get involved in the various activities that supply them and others with entertainment and even a supplemental income. The virtual world can be very unpredictable in a sense business and people come and go. It can also be a buffet of downright incompetent residents who haven’t the slightest clue how to make friends and be part of a peaceful and productive environment. Recently The SL Enquirer went on an undercover mission to observe some of the hangouts across the grid and was amazed to see just how differently people act when they don’t think anyone with the ability to share these stories with the masses, is watching how they really act.

Avoiding Grief in Second life- How to live Drama Free. –Nehem Resident Reporting…

Second Life can be rewarding, but it can also be a place of drama. It is how we handle drama that makes our second lives more enjoyable.

If you have spent any time here in the virtual world, you know it can be a breeding ground for disputes. The key to avoiding drama is all in how you respond to such. There are several types of nasty situations that can leave us not only wondering what just happened, but can also lead us to no longer wish to remain in the virtual world.

Protect yourself in Second Life with ☢ EXCLUSIVE WEAPONS ☢ Owned and Operated by Roby Tandino –Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Second Life is full of adventures and all sorts of things to do, but sometimes you need to sift through your inventory of gadgets and bust out some weaponry to handle your business and protect yourself from griefers, zombies or those e-gangsters and their goons on the combat role play sims.

It’s a vicious job with lots of bloodshed but someone needs to rack up on the body count and keep things in check. What happens if you don’t have weapons to protect yourself? You better run and teleport to Exclusive Weapons!

Alledgedly The SL Enquirer is the longest running (true) and most expected back stabbing news source on the grid. (false) According to this Avatar? I'll let you be the judge of that... - Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

As most readers already know. The SL Enquirer likes to keep it real and address issues that present themselves in a professional manner but when I feel like I have to dodge and weave sucker punches that most would get tagged with, it gets me upset…

This person wants to make a poster with false claims... I'll tell the full story...

IMPORTANT LETTER FROM THE EDITOR IN CHIEF: Is Second Life a breeding ground for Lunatics and Griefers? You too can be a victim. - Lanai Jarrico

How should we handle people that hide behind avatars and trespass against us with the thought that they can easily get away with it because nothing can be done to stop them?
In the years I have been reporting news in Second Life, I have come across people with major attitude problems, drama enough to book solid five seasons of Jerry Springer, and emotional baggage handlers that we just want to put on a flight to oblivion in the name of preservation of  peace in a virtual world we value.

Drama - The Good The bad And The Necessary? Jaded Exonar Reporting....

Even the most recent of SL residents can’t escape the reality we label ‘drama’ – But what is it, and why is it there at all? Perhaps most importantly, can we really avoid it?

Second Life is saturated with this phenomenon of ‘drama’,and at times it seems impossible to avoid, even without any personal involvement at all! Confused? I used to be. I can remember very clearly bobbing through a welcome area as a noob, all dressed in my very best (and only) pink dotty dress, my hair tied neatly back into a pony tail, fresh pale skin blinding people in the sunlight. The virtual world was opening up before me, and there it was. BAM. A couple were shouting in Local Chat, and everyone around me slowly began taking sides. That was the moment I began to hobble swiftly and uncomfortably down the road I still try to walk today – The one that leads away from the problem. Has this always worked? In a word, no. But why?
