Tips To Get Around The Worlds In Second Life And The Best Places To Drive

If you’re familiar with Second Life, you’ll already be aware of the worlds in the environment and the various places you can visit by teleportation - but do you also know it’s possible to travel on everything from a bus to a hovercraft or a horse?

The best way to get around Second Life

One of the best ways to make your way around Second Life is by buying a car which will give you the ultimate freedom to explore the worlds and see things in more detail and at your own pace.

Compared to real life, getting a car is easy within the platform, and many vehicles are even provided free of charge. As with so many other aspects of Second Life, car shipping is so much easier when compared to the real world – as your vehicle will spawn instantly -but if you do need help shipping a car, there are many good options out there.

Using the map to plan routes

Most users rely on the World Map for travel in Second Life, with two maps available. The map at secondlife.com is probably the best and easiest to use to get a full idea of the world and plan journeys. Using the in-world map can often end up a slow and glitchy process - particularly if you have too many maps features enabled.

The best driving routes in Second Life

Every user has their own preference in Second Life; however, there are some notably scenic routes available across the mainland and Lionheart continent. Indeed, it’s even possible to race at tracks in the game - and at many of them, you’ll also be able to buy new vehicles.

If city driving is more what you’re looking for, try the extensive road network around Sim City. The best way to access these areas is to click maps then search for shopping, bringing up a vast array of roads suitable for driving. Midnight City and Ecstasy City also have renowned road networks, which feel almost as palpable as driving around a city in real life.

Other users suggest the road from just below Rodeo near the Spook House in the direction of Linden Village is great for driving, while Racers Island is also another popular spot to take a cruise in your Second Life vehicle.

Another great area for driving can be found at Stratos - a huge, relatively empty area that was built specifically for racing Italian race cars. The track is long and varied, initially spiraling around a mountain before going underwater for a short section and then ending up in a more standard race track layout.

Other forms of transport available in Second Life

With approximately 900,000 users scattered all around the world - and many of them taking to constructing their own models available for purchase in the game - there’s literally every type of transport imaginable available in Second Life. Although you’ll need to pay for many of these forms of transport, you could end up owning everything from a spaceship to a motorbike or a catamaran.

FRANK’S JAZZ 2: THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN – JOSH (THOMAS1 BELLIC) REPORTING

This past March, I had the pleasure of peering behind the curtain and seeing how they make the magic at Frank’s Jazz.  Over 1,100 of you read the resulting article at
http://www.slenquirer.com/2021/03/franks-jazz-club-setting-standard-for.html

Much has gone on since then and things have really been happening at Frank’s Jazz.  I recently had the chance to sit down with Frank and William and ask them to share some of the many exciting things they had planned for your entertainment and what is happening at their new builds.

Josh (Thomas1 Bellic) (JB):  Franks Jazz 2 is your newest sim, what is it and what’s it all about?

MrSinatraFrank (Frank): Hello Josh, and thank you for sharing your time with us today. The new sim is home to Club Dino’s by Frank’s Jazz or as we like to call it Dino’s…  a casual, fun, relaxed atmosphere away from the formality of Frank’s to just chill out and enjoy some good music and good friends along with the home of The Terrazzo, our very own fine dining experience for groups and couples here in SL and finally Elegant Affair Weddings at Frank’s Jazz.

WilliamBatason (William): I will just add that by introducing a dedicated sim for our concerts and events at Dino’s or private parties at Terrazzo gives us much more latitude to present a wide range of entertainment and concerts in SL to a larger audience without overloading or creating lag on the main sim.  Frank’s Jazz can get pretty full as we all know, having a public concert area and private event venue big enough without the lag is a big bonus for everyone and the flexibility to appeal to a wide range of genres.

JB:  Is Dino’s just like Frank’s Jazz?

Frank: LOL!  I think as soon as you land, you’ll not only feel the vibe but feel right at home. I think the team here at Dino’s did an extraordinary job to not only create something unique here in SL but also put together a dynamic team of hosts, DJs, and entertainers  not found anywhere else on the grid, all with the same single-minded focus of just having a little bit of fun and enjoying the escape.

Frank’s has always been about entertainment, good people and good times and we think that’s what people know us most for.  So, whether it’s a romantic, formal night out at Frank’s Jazz or  you feel like throwing something comfortable on and dropping in on a good concert or some kickback tunes at Dino’s, I think we’ve got you covered no matter your mood.

JB:  What can visitors expect when they drop into Dino’s?

William:  Based on your last question Josh, I’d say expect the unexpected!  It’s definitely a brand-new experience.  We’ve gone out of our way to hook up with some extremely talented professional DJs who each bring their own style and fresh attitude to the club and their own element of fun.  It is casual/no dress code of course so come as you are, bring some friends and just hang out a while.  Most can expect some good chat, a good vibe a fantastic variety of music – we’re not all rock or all anything but a great mix of a little bit of 70s, 80s, 90s, rock, pop, RnB, and a lot of what you may hit the DJs with requests.  I think we are more in tune with adapting to the mood of the audience vs. the expectation of everyone joining what we’re doing.  I think it’s much more fun that way.

JB:  Where did you get the idea of Dino’s?

William:  Dino’s was a part of Frank’s many years ago and was retired in favor of other expansion at the time.  It’s been a while, we missed it and thought it was time!    Like Frank’s is a nod to Frank Sinatra and his ‘Fly me to the Moon’ romantic, ‘Blue Eyes’ and Fedora romance style…..  Dino’s is a nod to the cigarette in one hand, a glass of scotch in the other, girl on each arm style of Dean Martin.  I guess if you’re thinking about the Rat Pack… if you had to choose the guy known for chasin’ the girls, the drinking and smoking and partying, at least by reputation -  that would be Dino – right?  So how can you have Frank’s with Dino’s to compliment it?   Can’t think of a better pair.

JB:  The two of you seem to have a lot of work on your hands.  How do you do it all?

Frank:  It is a lot of work to be sure, often a full-time job.   I think most people in SL pop in, have a dance and move on without realizing the time and people involved, or at least I doubt many ever thought about it.   However, it’s not Will & me.  We might have an idea or have to pay the bill when LL comes calling.   On sim #1, there is Annamaria and her team and on sim #2 there is Victoria and her team.  Will & I are so fortunate to have been able to meet and work with so many talented and dedicated people who have all been a part in their own way to bring these things to life and keep them alive. Could be the hosts who greet you as you arrive to the entertainers who create the mood you enjoy or the artists who help create the various surroundings.  All of them do it because they enjoy doing it and they enjoy seeing others enjoy it.  If anything, we have all of them to thank, we all do for bringing it all to life for so many to enjoy.

JB:  Tell us about The Terrazzo, please.

William:  The Terrazzo is an elegant and private dining experience we created to specifically cater to the many guests of Frank’s sims and those looking for a special and unique experience in SL.  Our team creates the perfect night out and tends to every detail to ensure your date night or special event is expertly planned and your experience is a night to remember.

JB:  What types of events do you expect to host here?

Frank:  We are very flexible with the types of events hosted at The Terrazzo.  We do host many dinners for couples and date nights.  But we also have hosted many private parties such as rez-day celebrations and other events as well as rehearsal dinners for weddings being performed on sim by Elegant Affair Weddings.  So, the variety of events hosted by The Terrazzo is limited only by the needs of our patrons. We are pleased to work out almost any detail to suit any event of any size.

JB:  Elegant Affair Weddings at Franks is a lovely venue for wedding receptions and such.  Have you hosted any of those yet?

William:  Actually, we are in the middle of the June wedding season and have quite a few eager and excited couples in their final stages before tying the knot!  So, it’s very exciting indeed and probably the most fun.  Being able to be a part of creating so much happiness for others has always been apart of Frank’s.  Creating the perfect wedding day and working with our brides and grooms is always such an honor for our entire team!

JB:  What makes Elegant Affair Weddings at Frank’s different?

Frank:  Above all, you want the very best experience. Our packages are designed to be all-inclusive so the bride and groom only need to worry about what to wear and being on time!   To the very last detail, our experienced bridal team handles it all and on a dedicated location, no bridal party is out of reach for our team to handle. Each wedding is a custom event on its own and something to remember.

JB:  Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

William: If I may, we shared a lot of information here on the sim Frank’s Jazz 2 but if anyone would like more info, please reach out here:

June 6th - Saramarie Philly and PT Beardmore LIVE at Terry's Sunday Showcase

Join us on Sunday, June 6th beginning at 5pm SLT for Terry's Sunday Showcase, sponsored by the SL Enquirer! This week's featured artist is the lovely SaraMarie Philly...SaraMarie is a music graduate pianist/vocalist who plays a very wide variety of genres. It is not uncommon to hear her perform the #1 song on the Top 40 but then sing a classical opera song causing jaws to drop. Many say she is one of, if not THE best vocalist in SL.

"In my original music, I just write what comes to my heart, regardless of what genre it sounds like. I choose cover songs that have special meaning for me within the lyrics or that connect with me in a musical way. "

"I don't like being pigeon-holed into one genre, which means that at this point in my life I perform a very wide range of musical styles from Classical Opera to R&B, and I like that SL allows me to do this. My audiences seem to like the variation.
The above said, I CAN do themed performances. I choose my setlist based on the ambiance of the venue. If I'm at an upscale formal venue, I'll sing jazz, theatre, and romantic ballads. At western-styled venues I sing more country songs. Some venues like my funny but inappropriate songs, and will request some of those. The setlist really depends on the venue. :) "

Up next at 6pm SLT. Terry's Sunday Showcase continues with a LIVE performance from PT Beardmore! Beardy has spent the last 16 years playing music full time, 12 of those years touring with several bands as a multi instrumentalist. He brings a very unique sound to Second Life and performs 100% live.

Debuting at Terry's this week, his original music can be described as Americana, Alt-Country, and Western Swing.  Beardy plays a good mix of originals and covers and has been influenced and inspired by many great artists including Ryan Adams, U2, Brandi Carlile, Emmylou Harris, and Julie Miller.

With a soft spot for mellow introspective songs, Beardy is using SL as an opportunity to sing songs that have shaped his musical career and to pay homage to those who have inspired him.

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

SPOTLIGHT ON One Park Tower Hotel and The Terrace Lounge and Grille - Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

In the heart of a bustling city within Second Life, there is a hidden gem.  One Park Tower Hotel & Restaurant takes you to a place where the sound of people, cars, buses, and trains could be heard far and near as you step out of the taxi and finally arrive at your destination.

Looking up at the skyscraper that appears to go right into the clouds, you smile because you are right where you want to be. Upon entering One Park Tower Hotel you gasp at the attention to detail in the lobby. It looks much better than the pictures you’ve seen in the Destination Guide rolled up in your fist while your other hand is occupied by a travel bag. You enter the lobby through the rotating door.  Patiently waiting behind a guest that just approached the check-in counter you take in your surroundings. As you look around you see dark wood against black and gold accents.  In the ambiance of a candle flickering in the distance, class, and elegance are prominently on display wherever you look. You close your eyes for a moment to take in the soft scent of flowers from a nearby arrangement and a hint of herbal tea at the guest station.

You are greeted with a friendly smile and welcomed as an honored guest. Once checked in, your bags are taken by the bellhop as he makes his way to the elevators. After settling into your luxurious suite you feel a bit hungry. No need to make a reservation as you approach the restaurant entrance and seat yourself in the finest self-service restaurant in town. Taking the pressed fresh linen napkin and sliding it across your lap you ask for two glasses of wine.

If you have never roleplayed a realistic experience in Second Life, you just did as you imagined every detail up until this moment. It is the creativity of places like this in Second Life that inspires the imagery in written words.  SLE sat down with Jordan Andrew, Owner of The Terrace Lounge and One Park Tower Hotel to learn more about this elegant destination.

Interview with Jorden Andrew

SLE: Hi Jorden, I must say this is a stunning atmosphere. You truly paid great attention to detail with One Park Tower Hotel and The Terrace Lounge and Grille.  Can you tell our readers a little bit about your background and how you discovered Second Life?

Jorden:

Thank you, SLE. I came to Second Life with a background in the hospitality industry. I wanted folks to be able to experience fine dining in SL. The Terrace Lounge and Grille was a full-service fine dining restaurant for nine years and now is a self-service restaurant on the first floor of One Park Tower Hotel.

One Park Tower Hotel was created two years ago to resemble the historical St. Francis Hotel on Union Square San Francisco.

SLE: The city environment you created is very detailed inside and out. There are a handful of romantic dining venues in SL that offer SL residents a place to meet for business, enjoy time with friends or go on a romantic date. Restaurants serve such a great purpose for anyone who loves to be caught up in conversation without music blasting in the background or people all around. They provide a more intimate setting that feels relaxing and calm.  What makes your restaurant unique?

Jorden: The dishes in our self-service restaurant are created to portray fine cuisine in real life. Our menu includes a variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. As you enter the restaurant server Mitchell Wash hands you a menu and explains how to select plates from the table placemats.

I hope, SLE, that you took the opportunity to have a cocktail at our bar. Bartender, Keith Halstorm, would be pleased to offer you a beverage of your choice.

SLE: I’ll have to grab a drink thank you! The restaurant isn’t the only accommodations at The Terrace and One Park Tower. The hotel itself offers guests a place to stay for a night or longer. You also rent  Luxury Private Skybox Rentals and private homes at Terrace Circle. what are the different options and amenities offered to guests?

Jorden: One Park Tower Hotel offers luxurious rooms with adult furnishings from many Second Life top designers. The hotel rooms are built on individual parcels providing total avatar privacy and Security Orbs are of course included in each room.

Many of our guests enjoy the role play experience of cocktails, dinner, and riding the creaky old elevator to their hotel rooms. We also offer a pool and self-service spa for our hotel guests.

SLE: One of the most important things in hospitality is offering guests activities like the pool, spa, bar, and restaurant.  Can you tell us about the skyboxes you rent?

Jorden: One Park Tower Hotel is managed by The Terrace Rentals. The Terrace Rentals does offer custom-designed skyboxes. This option is available for our hotel guests that prefer a longer rental. We also offer a catered full-service dining experience that has been popular with honeymooners.

SLE: You did a beautiful job with this sim. Did you design it yourself?

Jorden: Yes, SLE. Thank you

Spotlight on Stephanniyah- One of Second Life’s most loved performers- Orion Baral Reporting...

As one of Second Life’s most loved performers, Stephanniyah’s performances take it to the next level. Her controlled, powerful voice and unique vocal stylings transform each song! She performs acoustically re-imagined songs to guitar and piano, and her style varies from R&B, Pop, Indie, and Jazz.

Known also as "Steef" to many of her fans, Stephanniyah is one of those artists who never disappoints and always keeps her audience coming back for more. Streaming live with a vibrant personality combined with exceptional talent, this is one show you won't want to miss!

Orion  Baral (OB): Thank you for taking the time and sitting down with me to do this interview. I will break the ice easy and just ask how did you discover Second Life and get involved in the music scene?

Steef Sinatra: This is sort of embarrassing. I was in a Business Marketing class back in the day and the professor started talking about virtual reality marketing platforms. All I could think about all the way home was checking out Second Life. Then I saw Dwight Shrute flying around in SL and then cool guy Jim with his guitar!!! So I finally played SL for like 3 days straight and my life has never been the same lol. It took me a couple of years to discover the live music scene. I stumbled upon a place called The O Lounge, owned by Canipanic Maslow - they host karaoke 24/7. I met a ton of extremely talented, friendly, and generous performers who were willing to take the time with me and show me the ropes.

OB: You have a special voice, with that,  you can sing many songs from many different genres of music, what is your favorite to cover?

Steef Sinatra: Oh man, there really isn't much I don’t enjoy singing. My jam is taking a song and reimagining it, so I tend to so a lot of covers of top hits. BUT! I live for soul jams - I just let the tracks carry me and I tend to lose myself in the music.

OB: Every musician has a story about music and what it means to them or how it moves them. Can you share yours with our readers?

Steef Sinatra: I remember going to a nighttime concert in a community center with my parents, and there was this dude who was probably in his 60s wearing a Hawaiian shirt and a fedora. I remember thinking how much I hated my life being there lol. Then this guy opened his mouth - he had completely recreated Joni Mitchel's Case of You...and then moved into the most soulful rendition of Al Greene's "For The Good Times". It was a deeply moving and transformative experience, I'd never considered covers to be anything other than crappy renditions of great songs lol.

OB: One thing I like to know from musicians is that finding your own identity in a song is an important thing, but also it can be hard trying to find your place in the SL music scene with so many performers on the grid. How do you stand out and what advice would you give new singers just starting out and needing to find their own niche in Second Life?

Steef Sinatra: Oh man! I'm a pretty humble, private person and I never set outperforming with the intention to stand out. I've been so thankful for the support I've received along the way from my fans, friends, and family - each performance I do is all for them and I think really comes through in the songs I sing. I just try to be my most authentic self, and let my intuition carry my voice through each song. My advice to newcomer performers is - YES!!! DO IT!! Seriously, everyone is excited to hear all the talent across the grid and once you get started it's really not as daunting as you'd think. This is a friendly, supportive community. If anyone has been toying with the idea of performing in SL, I'm happy to help you get started!

OB: What are your goals in the music world? Where do you see yourself heading into the future with your music?

Steef Sinatra: I have some lofty goals but one big one is to learn how to WAIL on the guitar. For my birthday I was gifted a year of lessons and I really cant wait to get started. Ya'll might never see me again, I'll just be singing any song I want by myself in my room lol.

OB: I have heard you singing a lot of different genres. Do you have a favorite one and more specifically a “go-to” song that you just love to sing? Or the one you belt out in the shower when no  one is around.

Steef Sinatra: Right now its Ariana - Positions, and I've been really toying with different arrangements including one that is a little more down tempo.

OB: Is there any performer in SL that you would love to do a dual-stream with and why?

Steef Sinatra: Tony Slade - he is endlessly talented and an all around great human being. I'm glad to call him my friend :)

OB: What would you be doing right now in Second life, if you weren’t performing? Or would Second Life even be on your radar?

Steef Sinatra: I would probably getting mushy with my boo Dane Voxel. DONT PUBLISH THIS! LOL Kidding, he is actually the reason I've continued performing in SL all these years and has always been my rock.

OB: Now for the important part of this interview, do you have anything you would like to say to the readers and new fans that we haven’t covered yet? And also where can fans or Venue owners contact for bookings?

Steef Sinatra: Honestly just that I appreciate you Orion and your publication, and all you do to support all of the best parts of SL.

GeekSpeak subject for 5th June at noon SLT: What would a perfect world look like?

Imagine that you can design Utopia!  What would it look like?  There would be no war, no disease, no pollution, of course.  Would there be no old age?  Would no one ever die?  Then wouldn’t the world become overpopulated?  Would no animals ever die?  Then would we all have to become vegan?

Could we design a world that satisfied everyone?  Both those who hate violence and those who enjoy MMA fights?  Could humans, being what they are, live together in a perfect world?  Should we think of ways to change humans so that they can live together?  Is the perfect world not for us, or people like us, but for our genetically modified descendants?  Should we aim for a ‘personal perfect world’?

Come and discuss the world today in its most perfect state and then discover the night side of that.  Bring your friends from every part of this pale blue dot.

IM Vulcan Viper, who teaches a meditation class at 1pm every Wednesday in the GeekSpeak auditorium, if you have ideas for new subjects.

How to Make Your Small Business Stand Out

How to Make Your Small Business Stand Out

As a growing company, you already know how hard it is to stand out from the crowd while increasing profitability. Although you may have a few effective strategies in place to get you this far, there are a few tried and tested methods to help you grow your business. Here are a few top tips to help you stand out.

Train Your Staff to Do Their Job Properly

Investing in training is important for all companies, but it could be the one thing that turns potential customers into actual consumers. Employees who are properly trained to do their job effectively will give you peace of mind. For example, if you own a small retail store, the last thing you want is to lose a customer due to poor customer service offered by an untrained member of staff. Not to mention, skilled personnel are more likely to take pride in their work. With a good training program, the job satisfaction rate of your employees should also rise too.

Invest in Your Development

When it comes to training and development, it is important for you to be clued up too. As a small business, you have many things going against you, so don’t make a lack of knowledge one of them. A successful business requires an entrepreneur with enterprise, a good product (or service), and fundamental knowledge in business management. Expertise in the industry can be developed on the job as you gain more experience. However, without a set of soft skills in business, a company could easily go under. Take the time to identify your weak spots and invest in training to enhance your skills. With varied qualifications in business, there is no reason for you to remain in the dark when it comes to running a successful company.

Adopt an Effective Marketing Strategy

Marketing is key to a thriving company, and a fantastic SEO strategy can make a huge impact on your online presence. With a growing number of people going online to gain information about goods and services, you need to make sure your website is up to scratch. Great content and effective keywords can help you reach your target audience and drive organic traffic to your website. In addition, blogger outreach can help you widen your audience by moving your business to the top of the search engine results page when a potential customer searches for your company. Network With Efficiency

No matter where you are in the world, you can network. Whether it’s at an exclusive event or at your local bar, there is always an opportunity to speak to and connect with new people. However, quality leads can be gained by attending trade shows and industry events. Representatives from large companies and other professionals within the industry are likely to attend these gatherings. Meet the relevant people and make long-lasting contacts by doing your research into events specifically geared towards your industry. When attending these events, always have a business card ready to hand out and be ready to introduce your services or your products. Trade shows and industry events are also fantastic places to hand out branded merchandise.
