SL’s Best Schools! -LillyLacewing Reporting.

This is a hard one, ladies and gents; I won’t lie to you. I have to pick only 5 institutions to list here, and many well-known universities have a presence in Second Life. So instead, I’m going to highlight a couple of schools relevant to things you need to know in SL, and a couple of University presences. First up?

Caledon’s Oxbridge University.
This place is interesting; it has a ‘lecture hall’ where you can learn the ins and outs of Second Life, or if you’re big into Steam Punk, then I highly recommend checking out their library where they host a treasure trove of books on everything from 19th Century Politics and sciences to art history and children’s books. The whole university is appropriately Steam Punk, and I love it! There’s lots of informative stuff here for newcomers to SL as well, such as simple things like interacting with a new currency marketplace, how to build things (very basic of course) and how to earn Lindens, interact with others, and everything else someone new to SL would need to know--or even someone not so new, but in need of new information. They host both free, and paid classes on a wide variety of SL important activities such as building items, clothing, working with mesh, etc. It’s a great, fun, large, and informative school beyond worth the TP in!

Stanford University’s SL Location
Now, I don’t have to tell you about Stanford. It’s a Real Life, Ivy League University. It has links to their libraries online. Once you land, there’s a bright red line that you follow to large billboard that lists the SL physical locations of their libraries, and there are a handful of video screens that link you to the online libraries.  The Second Life installation is very detailed, large, and beautiful.  It’s great for students of the physical university, as well as curious SL’ers who’d like to learn things they might not otherwise. Go check it out!

Rockcliffe University Library and Reference Center.

Ok, so admittedly, this one’s more of a library than a school, but it taught me how to make clothing! Something I’ve always kind of struggled with was creating here in SL, but a book quite literally out in the open taught me, in a matter of minutes, how to make basic, simple clothing. It’s filled with books both informative and fictional, as well as books on how to make things in SL that are basic, easy to understand, and won’t intimidate the new user! I was happy to find this place, and now I can’t wait to give my new clothing making skills a try. Who knows, maybe this time next year, I’ll be pimping my own product line in an upcoming article! Go get your learn on!

SOMA: Learn Photoshop, gimp,etc…
This is a great resource sim for those who want to learn to fine tune those clothing-making skills they picked up at Rockcliffe! This ‘school’ teaches users how to use image manipulation and graphics software such as Gimp, Photoshop, and even more I’ve never heard of. As anyone who’s made, or purchased, an item off the marketplace, can attest to how important those graphics programs are for builders, SL ‘tailors’ (clothing makers,) and those who build entire sims. This is a place I plan on returning on my off time to learn, on my own time and at my own pace (how rad is that?!?) how to make textures to attach to that shirt I just learned how to make.

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
This is another Real-Life University brought to life here in the grid! This one serves students of UWM, both in teaching them how to use Second Life in order to take classes on its online campus, and in other SL relevant information. It serves the public the same, and teaches new users how to orient to life in SL. I was surprised and happy to see that this campus seemed up to date, the Halloween colors of black and orange popping up in cheery balloons welcoming you to the campus.

All in all, it was hard to pick the 5 best schools of in Second Life, mostly because A.) There are SO many, and B.) They’re all incredibly informative, most even have their own libraries, either with old classics in notecard form, or online links to places where you can read and experience classic literature for free. Also, for those who want to further their educations but cannot afford to attend places like MIT, some schools offer access to their textbooks online for free. For MIT’s curriculum: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/online-textbooks/ .  A Google search can also bring you lots of free textbook resources as well as other e-books for both learning, and pleasure!

Breaking News - The Lindens are finally ready to talk to you - Lacy Muircastle reporting

Over the years I have heard a constant whine from 'Joe Resident' about how inaccessible the Lindens are, how they don't care about the virtual platform they created or the residents that inhabit the space, how it's all just a money making racket.
Now you have the opportunity to be heard, have your say, get some answers.

On Tuesday, November 10th, the Lab announced the launch of Lab Chat,  “an opportunity for you to ask Lindens your questions during a live taping that will be recorded and archived for everyone to view.”

The first Lab Chat will be Thursday, November 19th, at 10:30am SLT at the Linden Endowment for the Arts Theatre – with guest Ebbe Altberg, CEO of Linden Lab.

Residents from the Lab Chat production team – Draxtor Despres, Gentle Heron, Elrik Merlin, Petlove Petshop, Inara Pey, Aisling Sinclair, Devin Vaughan, Saffia Widdershins, and Jo Yardley – who will pick questions to ask Ebbe from the forum thread  – so be sure to get your questions into the thread no later than Friday November 13th, 2015. Authors of selected questions will be invited to ask their question live at the in-world show. Time permitting – additional questions from the audience will be answered.
I am led to believe that if you are unable to attend the live show, a recording will be available shortly after the first Lab Chat wraps, so there is no reason to miss out.
Diarise November 19th at 10:30am SLT. Don’t forget to add your questions to the forum thread - be heard!!
All things being equal, it's hoped that Lab Chat will become a monthly series. As questions arise you will have the opportunity to put them to the Lindens by leaving them here --> forum thread  as noted in the Lab’s announcement.

SATANS HELPERS (MC)- NOW RECRUITING AT ALL LEVELS

SATANS HELPERS (MC) - NOW RECRUITING AT ALL LEVELS

Based on Honor & Loyalty, this is the code we live by.  Prospects will be inducted after a 30 day period, those who join and say they were patched will have to prove they are patched in displaying these qualities.
Our name scares a lot of people, but it's just a name - we don't actually do voodoo or anything, not say'n there's anything wrong with that, just say'n we don't --- It's just a name.

We are a young MC, but we are growing-  boy have we felt those growing pains. After multiple grieving instances at our last sim, we are presently relocating and looking for land to setup club house and a small MC track of our own for practice runs.
Right now we are surveying Hellz Highway and Eat Asphalt for possible inclusion in our MC Ride Outs. We are actively recruiting to fill a Road Captain and other vacancy. It's a good time to join if you’re looking for opportunity. It's that old saying, "When Opportunity Knocks.... answer the door!"

If you'd like to join, or need additional information IM  (michaealtrenchcoat) or (arizonaavery2909) for an application.

SL UFO Threads Are Host To Heated Debate… LillyLacewing Reporting.

Fire in the Sky
Are there extraterrestrial reasons behind unidentified flying objects? This question, and the fear of its possible answer, has plagued mankind for decades. Long before we could articulate and gather together (whether in the flesh, or here, in the Virtual world of Second Life,) to discuss it, lights in the sky have been terrifying and fascinating us for all of our recorded history. Many religions, particularly Hinduism in their ancient texts, refer to their gods as having arrived in Vimanas, which if you Google that term, you’ll see they look like a spaceships carrying the sometimes animal-headed, multi-limbed deities.
I know a lot of people who’ve claimed to see things in the sky that don’t fit with what we know to exist in our modern technological capabilities; however, we also know now that our government is fond of keeping their better, sneakier high-tech devices such as weaponry and transportation, hidden from public view for up to TWENTY YEARS after their completion and implementation. This leaves a lot of wiggle room for whether what we see is of our Earth, or something else entirely.
“Hey, we can hope, right?”
I myself saw something questionable in the sky once about 12 years ago, when I lived in rural central California. It was a dairy community, so at the night the light pollution was minimal, all things considered. I saw what looked like the brightest white pinpoint of light in the sky, dancing around in ways that more resembled a game of space pong rather than any sort of known, helpful, or even possible maneuvers that I knew of anything on Earth being capable of. Also, when it decided to take off, it went OUT, not North, South, East, or West, just UP, and OUT into space. Was that a craft driven by a creature not of this Earth, or was it a machine our government hadn’t seen us fit enough to know it exists yet? I don’t know. I know I couldn’t identify it; it was too high, too bright, too fast, and moved in ways that were almost disturbing to watch, so rapid and sudden were the changes in direction.

I decided to look around, and see what others in SL have experienced in regards to UFO phenomenon. Since there were no current discussions groups happening, I decided to look for threads on the forums at www.secondlife.com. I found an interesting question posed, and that was the question of the Ancient Astronaut theories, many of whom seem to be perpetuated by ancient art depicting creature that look like a man in a space suit, or the crafts themselves.
This was a heated discussion on both sides, one person suggesting that the ‘space helmets’ depicted on some cave art/primitive art couldn’t be differentiated against their also frequent depiction of halos. I personally feel they look very different from halo depictions, if only in that halo depictions usually also have lines implying rays of light surrounding or coming out of them, coating the head of the halo wearer in divine light.
Another pressing question was, ‘Do you believe there are other intelligent life forms existing on other planets?’ This one seems pretty straight forward if you keep religious ideals out of the equation, it becomes a matter of mathematics. With so many planets in our potentially limitless universe, our own humble galaxy literally home to hundreds of millions of planets, stars, moons, it’s foolish to think our planet is the only one with life on it. Not to mention that fact that scientists have now found bacteria living in the tails of comets*, and that they’ve discovered Tardigrades, (also called water bears,) can survive the vacuum of space and hitch a ride on a rocket.** With information like this, it only seems a matter of time before we start finding larger, more formed creatures. As our ability to penetrate the previously impassable barrier of space increases, so too do our chances of finding life in outer space. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!

The Hidden Rooster Club - So Real, It's the Reason.

The Hidden Rooster Club

The Hidden Rooster came about after i had worked many clubs. I had started out hosting and moved my way up to managing clubs. I saw a lot of things going on in clubs that i didn’t like. I didn’t like how the staff, VIP’s, DJ’s were treated and the restrictive structure that clubs put on the staff. It stifled the true expression who we were, and who we were becoming.

So, I decided i wanted to have a club completely different. One that was really family oriented, not just saying it was. I wanted to give the staff back their freedom to play, have fun while providing them the encouragement and support to be who they are. Someplace, where you were known by name, and really felt like you belonged, not so much because of the club, but by providing a venue that was permissive- that dream came true.

The Hidden Rooster Club, is a jewel that shines as brightly as the star we wish on every night and can no longer stay hidden. While in its meager beginning, it struggled, remained hidden, and the staff worked double sets, as we leaned on each other, and made it through. Our theme song, ”Rooster” by Alice in Chains says it all, “You can’t kill the rooster.”

Though we still struggle, we call out to the Second Life Community because we really need your help to keep the dream alive. We are that real. At least come hit our Vote box, and take a look. This is home to a lot of people who still believe in those… can you help us make it happen? Are we wrong to ask, or are we just us, like the real deal, unique, and special – something very few have found and nurtured.

We just want to reach those real people, that want to have a good time, chill out, enjoy the live DJ sessions, laugh and forget all about RL and SL problem, just for a lil’ while… and let the club and its staff help you get in touch with something that “something” that is still hidden deep inside of you – It’s you and we think your beautiful.

While everyone feels restricted, chained and bound from time to time, chains can be fun, but also stifling, we want to set you free.

Take a trip down Hellz Highway

From the moment you land on the grounds, you gain a sense and appreciation of the surrounding beautiful countryside. As you take in the scenery that surrounds the smooth timed track, it subjects the rider to a more immersive experience. Its a good biker sim.

However, the management here at Hellz Highway realizes that it takes more than surrounding a track with trees, and nature to make it a good track. It is well maintained, constantly growing, but we control our lag. No, it’s not the longest road, but it is a smooth ride and the staff and management here at Hellz will always go that extra mile.

Even if you don’t ride bikes, there’s plenty to explore and do at Hellz Highway. There are numerous pullovers and nooks where you can relax, cuddle, picnic or take a profile pic.

If you don’t have a bike, there are vendors that will allow you to rez a trial bike, and even purchase it if you like. There’s a professional Photography studio on premises with reasonable rates.

It’s an MC neutral zone, all MC’s are welcome.
Club

Hellz houses the Sh*t Hole, to shake what momma gave ya while Live DJ’s play your favorite tunes. And if you’ve never heard DJ Maniac, DJ Mox or DJ Sexy, ohh your really in for a special treat- they rock it out, mix it up, and party down.

We are currently accepting sponsorship offers to help our sim and club grow. Contact Abalyn Giano.
