Make Tex's Tree Farm part of your SL family tradition

Picking a fresh-cut Christmas tree isn't about crossing an item off your holiday to-do list. It's about breathing in the scents of fresh cut trees, sipping hot cocoa at Deer Ridge Cafe, listening to the fire crackle, and children laughing with delight as they skate around on the frozen pond. And best of all remembering Christmases gone by and Christmases yet to come.

Tex's Tree Farm is a one of a kind unique experience you will only find in SL that is a true family role Christmas Tree Farm where you can pick and cut down your tree and take it home with you and your family.

Bundle up and bring the loved ones. Breeze through the Tree farm to pick your favorite tree. Grab and ax, pick a empty tree behind the demo tree you like then chop your tree down.  Once it has fallen, pay the tree and accept into your inventory.

All of our trees come fully decorated with a menu that allows you to pick and choose which decoration you and your family like.  You and your loved ones can pick what you would like then add your own special Christmas touch with those special ornaments.

Make this a family tradition and head down to Tex's Tree Farm for a family experience no one will forget.

And don't forget to stop by Under the Christmas Tree Shop for all your Christmas Decorating needs on the first floor including toys, home deco and lots of Christmas baked goods.  Second floor, non gacha home decor including new modern trees.

Three cities to visit in the UK

There are many places throughout the United Kingdom that you can plan to visit on a trip to this beautifully diverse island. You’ve only got time to explore a handful of these places on your trip, though - so where do you go?

To get the most from your time in the country, it’s best you spend a few days in some of the cities dotted about the British Isles. These are just three of our favourites, so here’s what you can do and see in them.

London
Many people flying in to the UK will land at one of London’s international airports - so why not have a longer stop in the capital and find out more about it? There are too many things to do here in one visit, but there should be a few places at the top of your list that you must go to.

If you’ve only got a couple of days, then the main sites you’ll have to see include Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, the Tower of London, Borough Market - and they’re only some of the highlights! Don’t worry, as there are many parks to visit and relax in: the royal parks, in particular, prove popular.

Hyde Park is one of those and, with its great transport links, it could be an ideal spot for you to stay. Accommodation options such as Native give you the great services you expect from a hotel, but also with the advantages of self-catering apartments.

Manchester
This city in the north-west of Manchester is famous for many things, but two of the most well-known of those are football and music. If you’re a fan of ‘the beautiful game’, then you can head for the National Football Museum - learn more about the England team’s world cup win and the history of the sport. If you’re a fan of a certain team, then you could also visit Old Trafford: home to Manchester United.

If sport isn’t your thing, then you can absorb Mancunian culture by visiting some of the other places of interest in the city. There’s HOME for theatre, cinema and art, Manchester Art Gallery, and the Northern Quarter for its creativity and independent outlets.

Glasgow
Going north of the border into Scotland is another must-see on your UK trip. You’ve probably heard of Edinburgh, but have you thought about going to Glasgow too?

There’s plenty of beautiful architecture to see, which you can discover more of on the city centre mural trail. You can also find more work from the architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who was from Glasgow.

You can also enjoy some whisky in one of the many pubs and bars in the city - some of which may have traditional folk music performances taking place. Also, look to enjoy a tipple on a tour of the Tennent’s Brewery.

There are many more cities, towns, and quaint villages to seek out when visiting the UK. These are just some of the great places you can experience when you go to this fantastically diverse, historical, and interesting country.

GeekSpeak – Fake News! What is it? How do we deal with it? Join the Discussion Saturday Oct. 26th at 12pm SLT

We hear about fake news more and more these days.  But what is it?  Do we have to deal with ‘alternative facts’, in the words of KellyAnne Conway?  Do we need a Ministry of Truth in Facebook?  Is there any way to guarantee that some news is not fake?
Do we have to live in a world where fake news is always possible?  Have we always lived in such a world?  Will we forever live in a world where you have to accept the possibility that you are acting on fake news?
Could there be an AI that would determine that all the news you get is real?  Would you trust it?
Come to GeekSpeak to discuss reality in the news rooms.  Bring your friends.

GeekSpeak – How will autonomous driving change our cities? Join the discussion Oct. 19th at 12pm SLT

In a few years from now self-driving electric cars will be a reality.  What will our cities be like?  Will there be more cars or fewer?  Will the possession of a car become a small business since cars can be robotaxis when they are not being used by the owner?
Will cities become much pleasanter places to live?  Fewer cars, and maybe most of those driving in underground tunnels, less pollution, quiet streets with plenty of room for pedestrians.
How will the labour market be changed?  Millions of truck drivers, car mechanics, highway police, garage attendants will be jobless.  On the other hand, new jobs will be created.  Maybe you can get a hairdresser to ride along with you in a robotaxi, or some form of entertainment.
What will commuting be like in 10 years?  Come and discuss your vision of the future of transport.  Bring your friends!

The Importance of Project Management in the Gaming Industry

Creating video games should be seen as a type of project management. Unfortunately, many independent projects try to argue that they don’t need it at all. They want to just work until they’re done, though this creates many of the problems associated with their projects. However, larger projects and respectable ones bring in project managers if the producer isn’t a project manager themselves. Let’s learn about the importance of project management in the gaming industry.
The Different Roles for Producers and Project Managers
Larger game development firms want separate project managers and producers. The producer’s role is to focus on customers and trends. The project manager focuses on time, scope, cost and employees working on a particular project. The producer manages the feature set of the game, while the project manager develops the project plan and delivers on deliverables that matter, like the deadlines.
A producer will be evaluated based on the success of the game through user reviews and sales. The project manager ensures that the game is delivered on time, within budget, and meets quality metrics. A beautiful authentic game doesn’t matter if it is endlessly delayed, or fails because it blew its budget before delivering working code. This is why game producers need a project manager to ensure that they succeed.
The Value of Project Management
Producers may outline the project workflows, game roadmap and use cases. They’ll establish the priorities for the game developers and the must-haves for the game based on market research. The product manager will create an organization to deliver all of this within project constraints.
For example, they’ll give the development team the necessary tools and resources. This ensures that key contributors aren’t overloaded, and they’ll verify that milestones aren’t missed and update your calendar.
Project managers should use a robust PMS that everyone will be able to use and understand to manage every project. The project management application should have chart tools and agile project management tools perfect for video game development. Then everyone works with time trackers that let you generate reports and hold people accountable. The project manager will mitigate risks during execution and identify problems as they occur to minimize potential problems. Teams won’t be able to manage tasks on schedule otherwise.
The Necessity of Formal Managers to Scale
Producers may be the project managers when you’re just starting up. Solo developers creating their first game fall into this category. However, project management becomes a necessity as you grow your team. Project management is essential when you have multiple projects. You can’t afford to have ad hoc workflows for complex projects and dividing up assets.
Some may be afraid to give up control due to fear of losing their intellectual property. That can be mitigated by choosing project management software with good security features. Then you can assign who you want to a task and limit access to IP to only those who have the need to see it. You can give everyone on the team access to the necessary data while ensuring no one who doesn’t know what they’re doing can’t alter the code. This lets you have formal managers work in the dynamic environment of game development.
For example, you have a manager following up on dependencies and guaranteeing things get done, while last minute changes that may break things aren’t allowed. Formal project management allows you to delay a feature to the next update while ensuring it isn’t forgotten.

While large projects need someone to represent the consumer and the gamer, your projects are at risk of failing if you don’t implement formal project management. This is why producers need project managers if they aren’t acting as project managers themselves.
