SPORTS & LEISURE: Grim Babies!! _Stacey Cardalines Reporting...

A-Roooooooooooooooooooooooo.... don't be shocked to see a werewolf at Grim Babies!

I try to bring you to spooky or disturbing places during the Halloween season. While hunting for one of those, I found a place called Grim babies. Here it is:
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Orphan%20Island/151/161/29

The Grim Orphanage is nothing if not disturbing. You can read the backstory below, but I'll tell you that they have a Funhouse, a Haunted House, and an Orphanage that should cover you in the Spookiness category for one Halloween.

The story of the Grim Orphanage.

SL VENUES:Nicci Winsmore's World of Art and Fashion - Sandy Demina Reporting....

Nicci Winsmore-Trees in light
Staff Reporter
• Monday, October 25, 2010
Through the experimentation of forms, of colors and of textures all artists try to communicate their emotions and Second Life is a great place for all the ones caught up by their (first) life and who ended up doing something different... to their regrets.

This is the story of one of them, Nicci Winsmore has been enjoying art since she was very young. Her aunt even bought her a sketch book when she was about ten, feeling that she might do something with it.

But her true love was born when a professional photographer visited her high school and talked about his profession. This was it and she thereafter pursued photography as a passion.

Nicci Winsmore (aka Nicole Perrot) loves representing nature through her viewfinder. She has been taking pictures in various parts of the USA including California and New Mexico. She tries to keep her photography as real as possible without using any enhancements except for contrast and light with Photoshop. What you see is mostly what you should get. Her influences are many but her main one is Ansel Adams.

Nicci runs now in Second Life a sim named" World of art and fashion"(http://slurl.com/secondlife/Breezy%20Shores/31/31/21 ).It’s a very friendly place with a great atmosphere, where she lays down a stream-of-consciousness cascade of photographica priced by the yard.Worth a look. All art work in her gallery is original and catchy.

Currently she assembled a mix of new artists as well as old favorites: Fiona Letner, Oxil Zane, Toad Laloix, Ichiko Miles, Soul Yheng, Sandralee Palianta, , Ganso Artis, Giovanna Cerise, Tegan Jenvieve, Carley Noonan, Kyr Art/GeejAnn Blackadder, Artman Diavolo and Madison Arnahan.Nicci of course display in her gallery her works too.
We had a conversation about her (second) life and her passions.

Last week, I introduced you to some of the fun of NY Health Scapes (and more comes next week!). This week, I focus on the amazing woman behind the development of NY Health Scapes, Panacea Luminos, and what she's doing to highlight the importance of health care in Second Life.

Panacea and I met at Healing Grounds Coffee Stop (slurl) before she took me around the sims, and here, we talked about what sparked NY Health Scapes--and more.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: The World of Crap Mariner

How to describe R. Crap Mariner ?: Writer, Broadcasters, Actor, Satirist, Gadfly. I sit staring at the pages of material I have amassed trying to figure out precisely where to begin. Outside the wind howls, the rain pelts against the windows, and the trees rustle and sway. I give up and take a nap. Crap would appreciate that. Two hours later, I am back at it . . . Crap is simply unlike anyone I have ever met in my entire life. He is a creative force of nature: abstract random with a purpose. Crap Mariner always makes my head spin, and leaves me wondering what just hit me.

SL ARTS AND LITERATURE: Libraries Can be a Scream!

Who says Librarians are boring? Even virtual Librarians hold the stigma of the little ladies, their hair worn unfashionably tight, with the remarkable ability to humble a grown person with an icy glare over the top of their glasses and a pointed “Shhhh!” No such thing! The Librarians on Info Island have created hauntingly fun “Halloween Scream” on Info Island and will be celebrating this most “spookable” time of year on Friday, October 29th at 6pm SLT with the TX950 - Halloween Scream Costume Party.

The library sciences community in Second Life has embraced the virtual world as a tool to expand resources, and invigorate the library experience. Yes, you can find virtual card catalogues, which are about as imposing at the real kind. You can also find creative environments that enliven a particular subject matter or idea by making in immersive and interactive – encouraging you to explore.

SPOTLIGHT FEATURE: MEET ATHENIA CONSTANTINE, OWNER OF MONEY ISLAND, HOME OF FREE LINDENS! -Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

• Sunday, October 24, 2010
When I think of a Money Island, I image fun in the sun while frolicking with a wad of never ending cash at my disposal. But I can’t be too realistic when it comes to Second Life. So, the next best thing to money growing on trees is Money Island. It offers visitors different ways to make Lindens. From convenient ATMS and live entertainment, to treasure hunts and fishing for lindens. There is plenty to do here.

Many residents have heard of this staple of the SL, but who owns it? If you aren't sure, Meet Athenia Constantine

FASHION: All that glitters ... Lacy Muircastle reporting

I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number of carats in a diamond. ~Mae West

Girls, girls, girls, The Beauty and the Beast Jewelry Fair is on the go at the moment and runs until the 17th October and wow it is spectacular.  I promise that you will not be disappointed, just make sure that you take Mr. Moneybags with you!!!
I caught up with one of the fair's sponsonsor's Jori Watler of alaMood Boutique. We all know that diamonds are a girl’s best friend and Jori certainly knows how best to present said diamonds (and all sorts of other glorious pieces too).

Jori said "alaMood is a proud sponsor of the “Beauty and the Beast” jewellery fair and the charity being supported by the fair is OXFAM International which is a confederation of 14 like-minded organizations working together to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice is just such a worthwhile cause." Time to pay a visit to the fair then girls, don't you think?  The fair enables jewellery designers to showcase their sense of style all in one location.
Jori designs and creates beautiful jewellery that delights people and enables them to express their love and appreciation. She has just released her Diamante range - Luxurious platinum and sparkling diamonds placed in a striking burst design. The full ensemble consists of a Choker, drop earrings, cocktail rings, and headpiece. Come to the jewellery fair to see it for yourself.

If you can’t get to the jewellery fair then swing past the alaMood Boutique,  At alaMood their customers are highly valued and they offer a unique customer reward concept which rewards you as you spend!! You can also earn store credit. Visit their main store for more information.

MUSIC SPOTLIGHT : Mommaluv Skytower- Sandy Demina reporting

Staff Reporter
• Monday, October 18, 2010

Mommaluv Skytower is from Pennsylvania and is an electronic artist/poetess who uses her voice as a pen and her music as paper creating globally fused artistic musical compositions that invite you into her mind.
She's from Philadelphia where she attended a magnet music school and then graduated from there, so she has been playing music for a really long time , mainly violin, guitar, and piano.

She has been in several bands since the age of 14 and, after a 7 year hiatus, at the age of 20 she got back into it when she was 27.

However she has let her skills there lapse, as her medium now is sound design with the invention of computers. "I have stayed faithful to this method -Mommaluv says -over the years, as I like to make my own sounds – either from loops I make using my Pro88 & Roland keyboards, which then bring into my production program. I also use my vocals and make them sound like instruments- tweaking them with plug-ins. And when I want a more traditional sound I collaborate with people that are much better at playing instruments than myself and then apply the same method- so I can stylize the sound as I want to hear it. "

When I asked her to describe her style she told me how she arrived, in 2005, to self-proclaim it as (a)VANTRONIK (m)AYHEM : "While having a conversation with a friend as we were trying to figure out how to market my songs on the net- so it would stand out from the rest. As we spoke, we looked at the genres that formed my style- electronica, acoustic, the avante guarde, psychedelia, spoken word and chaos. And then I took the genres and tried to mesh all the words together and decided on (a)(m) mews – which had more flexibility to play with- shortly after I saw music sites coming up with similarly named genres & thought that was cool- as the standard genres now had expansion for those of us that do not fit into anyone genre!"

Mommaluv says that she considers herself a songstress, not a singer since she likes to use her voice more theatrical than traditional , floating her music around her written poetry:further more she always hated being called a singer: her earlier years involved with music were quite traumatic and frustrating, due to the fact that record labels and mainstream producers she worked with always tried to make her sound like the famous singers at the time, quite nerving definitely. So she decided to refrain from anything remotely “mainstream”, producers, and labels...

CULTURE: NY Health Scapes: SOHO - The Cyclone - Shon Charisma Reporting...

The Cyclone

Staff Reporter
• Monday, October 18, 2010
As I talked with a newly made friend regarding an upcoming SLE article, she suggested I head to SOHO, New York, and ride the great attraction, The Cyclone -- with my fear of heights, I knew this would be interesting.

As I landed in SOHO, the massive Cyclone loomed before me. As a person who is afraid of heights and obscenely large things, I backpedaled quite a bit to give me some distance from the structure. I immediately decided I needed to work my way up Cyclone, but I wasn't sure what to do. After all, my friend kept saying, "You have to ride the Cyclone. Go there and do it NOW!" I assumed I would arrive and there would only be the rollercoaster, but I was more than pleasantly surprised to take off on a "work out my nerves" walk and find so much to do while there.

Me on the Wonder Wheel

First of all, the Cyclone is definitely the main attraction; however, there are other attractions there, such as the Wonder Wheel, which is based from the real ride in Coney Island. I rode it about three times while I constantly peeked over at the Cyclone, gathering my courage to get on it.

SPOTLIGHT FEATURE: Pure Seduction Club co-owner Arennon Eiren Talks About The Versatile and Newbie-Friendly Club That She Helped Create -Ramon Federal Reporting...

• Monday, October 18, 2010
Vivacious avatar Arennon Eiren, along with her partners/co-owners Tennant Hyx and Vectra Newall, has created a new venue for dancing, live entertainment and fun, called the Pure Seduction Club.

People “should come here and enjoy what we have to offer and have a fantastic time with us here and enjoy the live comics and the singers,” Arennon told the SL Enquirer during an interview at the venue.

“For the club, I would just like it to be as good as we can make it, a good place to hang out with friends and have lots of fun while you do,” she added.

There’s a division of labor at Pure Seduction, with each co-owner having specific responsibilities. Tennant Hyx does the paper work and schedules events at the location. Vectra Newell djs and helps with the hosting. According to Arennon, Tennant is “ a syfi mad lil Brit. He loves Doctor Who and is in the Starfleet Academy in SL. Vec loves to dj,” she adds.

As for her own satisfactions from the venue, Arennon says that “For me I enjoy meeting new peeps and just having fun. I love to host and talk.”

SPOTLIGHT FEATURE: $BADA BING GAMING$ 4 years and still Booming with the times -Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

Staff Reporter
• Monday, October 18, 2010
The Bada Bing Club’s original club owners have been around almost as long as I have. The reason I know this is because I used to frequent that club back in the day when it was owned by the original Gambino godfather of Blazing Falls, The Sims Online. As early as 2004, many of the families migrated and settled into other virtual worlds like Second Life and World of Warcraft. I just so happened to arrive here on the same boat as the Mafia Families.

When people think Mafia, they might imagine Al Capone with his Tommy gun or even that scene from Scarface when Tony Montana is smoking a fat blunt in his marble Jacuzzi with a gun in one hand and liquor in the other. The bad boy image is definitely there but that’s hardly what Virtual mafia is. In fact there are quite a few retired old school families taking up residence in Second today. Not to worry, they won’t take over your block or start charging illegal taxes and underground gambling. There is a code that all family members most obey and that is, Loyalty, Honor and Respect. If that is broken, families crumble and new leaderships move in and take over. The ones that prevail stick together and do positive things in the community, while not being above backhanding anyone who disrespects their efforts. For those that did not follow the TSO Enquirer (TSOE) back in it’s more primitive days. Mafia News was all the rave and peeps flocked to the paper just to see what families were up to and who was at war with whom. Believe me, there was never a dull moment.

With years gone by and many of the families going back into the shadows, things got quiet, but it seems The Bada Bing’s foundation is still going strong in the hands of The Capones and continues to thrive in Second Life.

FASHION: "Welcome to Second Life" Lacy Muircastle reporting

Josue Habana
Staff Reporter
• Wednesday, October 13, 2010
I happened across one Josue Habana on 'twitter'. Josue describes himself as a “Proud Father, Second Life & other virtual worlds user, SEO & Internet Marketing Dude, lover of poetry, keen blogger... compulsive writer. Live. Learn. Love”.

So what I hear you ask? I have found it difficult to explain what Second Life is to people who have not been in to see it for themselves, but who nevertheless have an opinion as to what it is. Now Josue has provided a perfect answer to that question! That is what.
Read it for yourself and let me know what you think...

A “rhyming” invitation to all those with pre-conceived ideas about Second Life and Second Lifers to come and try it out for themselves
Contrary to all ideas
You may have pre-conceived,
I’m not a weirdo geek or freak,
Despite what you believe.

I don’t live in a basement,
On my own just eating junk,
I don’t have obscure fetishes,
Not socially defunct.

I’m not a guy who’s getting off
Pretending he’s a chick,
I’m not a chick pretending
That she’s really got a dick!

I’m just a guy, who tends to like
This thing called “Second Life.”
It’s not a tool for cheating,
Or a pixel dial-a-wife.

It’s a place I go to share, create,
A place I go to be
Surrounded by poetic folk
And set my writer free.

You think it’s just a game,
So let me offer clarity,
Music, business, learning,
Art, new friends and charity.

And that is just the tip, my friend,
If you really want to see
What we achieve in Second Life
Then turn off your TV.

Leave your pre-conceived ideas
And your stereotypes behind,
Drop the chip from off your shoulder
And come in with open mind.

Josue, thank you for this truly insightful piece of work.

SPORTS & LEISURE- Who Killed Cheergirl? ~Stacey Cardalines Reporting...

All good detectives start at the scene of the crime... especially when it is the Bimbo Cheerleaders sorority house
Halloween is a time of mystery.

The dead walk the earth, witches stir a cauldron, kids egg your house, you eat 4.7 pounds of candy and have a tummyache until Thanksgiving... Halloween goes from scary to annoying and back.

Halloween is also about stalking, kidnapping, and murdering Bimbo Cheerleaders... preferably for cash and prizes!

The Bimbo Cheerleaders are showing their Halloween spirit by sponsoring a contest. It seems that Cheergirl Allen, the titular head of The Bimbo Cheerleaders group, has come up missing.

Of course, no avatar worth his or her salt will allow such a travesty to go unchecked. It's up to you to hunt down and find Cheergirl.

You are almost guaranteed a good night out at the Azure Club, house of smooth sounds and cool time.
Pick the right night and you are likely to see one band you desperately try and remember the name of the next morning amongst the four or five who usually play each gig night. There is a relaxed vibe with an open-minded clientele who all have an obvious love of live music, which is appreciated by the bands, many of who are starting out their careers, who regularly pull out all the stops here.

I like to pass nice little deals on to my readers now and then... I can kick some Sports info to you, or I can lead you to Leisure.

I manage to play SL without putting any RL money into it. I'd have a hard time explaining it (investing money on SL) to my husband, who thinks of a computer as a strange box that sits on my desk which can summon box scores and Led Zeppelin songs when he asks me to have it do so.

Like everyone else, I'd like to have a house of my very own here on SL. Unfortunately, one only makes so much money writing/stripping and so forth. It's hard to make enough money to rent a house without investing IRL money into it.

I'm fairly cheap on SL. Not by design... Lanai pays well, and I'm hardly poor. I just don't spend wildly, and I love bargains. I paused while writing this article because the SLE Media Group coughed up a LM to a place that sells gowns for 10 Ls. We'll get to them (Passion For Fashion) some other time. The point is that I live conservatively.

Besides, I don't really need a whole house. All I see me doing with one is changing, hiding, and writing this column. I have very little sex for someone who goes to the places I go looking as I do. Thousands of Ls would be a terrible waste if it went to renting me a house.

All I really need is a room, a bed, and a desk. A view helps, too. For the money I'm willing to spend for a place, I can't be picky. But if I hunt around some, I find the things I want.

Happily, I found such a place. I actually rented a room here, so you'll be my neighbor if you come by. Let's check out Tropical Sound Paradise.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: Avatar Repertory Presents Timeless OEDIPUS REX

The Avatar Repertory Theater has one more weekend of performances remaining to their latest production, Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, and it is a performance well worth your time and your $L. Fresh on the heels of a sellout performance of Alice in WonderSland, Avatar Repertory Theater explores a battle between fate, power, and love through the ancient story of King Oedipus and Queen Jocasta. Audiences will be immersed in ancient Thebes, which has been brought to life in vibrant color by the Avatar Repertory creative team.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: ANY VIRTUAL INK - Dubhna Rhiadra weaves journeys in Second Life

Think about it! Storytelling in a virtual world: people sitting at computers controlling avatars who are sitting somewhere in a virtual environment and listening to someone tell or read a story. On the face of it there’s one reaction – Boring! That’s a lot of sitting! But the wonder of spoken stories in Second Life (SL) comes from one magical source alone, and that is the ability of a voice to enchant, express, and transport you away from all that sitting to somewhere you have never been before. I have heard a gaggle of “storytellers” in Second Life performing audible stories. No matter how you dress it up, if the voice is about as expressive as a paper sack it doesn’t matter what the storyteller is presenting. Of the people doing traditional telling in English on the grid, few can match Welsh-based storyteller Dubhna Rhiadra for her ability to capture your fancy with her voice alone, and spirit you away to another realm all together as she weaves a tale.

SPORTS & LEISURE: MUSIC- Covering The Cover Bands -Stacey Cardalines Reporting...

Phoenix laying down the Rock Law at the fabulous Highland Arena
Staff Reporter
• Monday, October 04, 2010
I thought I'd use the Leisure part of this column to show some love for the Cover Bands on SL.

A cover band is someone who assumes some of the persona of a famous IRL band (no offense to SL artists, but I haven't seen a Jak Streeter cover band yet) and performs their show for a crowd. No attempt is made to fool the audience into thinking John Lennon or Jimi Hendrix had returned from the dead.

The bands covered aren't always dead. I think all of the guys from KISS are still alive, although- with the facepaint- they could easily hide a replacement. They could be on their 8th guitarist for all I know.

The SL Enquirer is not afraid of cover bands. We had a Guns n Roses cover band in our old Friday Night Conversation feature. Slash was identical...although, when Slash spoke, he sounded like a woman from Missouri. Motherf*cker could sling the axe, though...

Some bands don't bother trying to dress up as the band. I can understand this, and can agree with and enjoy the concept of playing the music as a tribute. I also agree that there is no need for a second, say, Ozzy.

Now... I give to you....Phoenix!

I know some of the Phoenix girls from my gym, so I'll just run their notecard for you.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: No Limits with New Group "STORIES UNLIMITED!"

With Fall officially here and things starting to pick up after the Summer SL drought, I thought I’d bust out my diary and write a little about what’s been going on and how I hope some things can change for the better as we approach 2011.

I’ve been observing people and places in the virtual world for a long time and what never seize to amaze me, is the unpredictable nature of this environment and the behaviors of people who you may have done business with or befriended each other. Friendships or partnerships always begin in a mutual agreement and everyone on the same page (usually), but when decisions are made for the improvement of one’s own goals. The other party may not agree because it might not benefit them, but who’s to say the person making the decision, can’t or shouldn’t, if it is to improve on their Second Life experience?
