“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” Coco Chanel

“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” Coco Chanel.  Finale Couture has what it takes to make you just so.

The design talent behind the brand name Finale Couture is Cerise Emor, and she has recently been voted one of the top three Best New Fashion Designers in SL

This Jersey girl was born in the land of the Sopranos.  She has a work background in the medical field.  She said “SL lured me in because of the opportunity it offered me to show my design ideas to a worldwide audience. Even though fashion design is my hobby in SL, it is, however, my passion.
Her design style is timeless yet fashionable. She said “My designs are unique in the way that when you see them, you say, I would wear that in RL!  Realistic texturing of the fur and fabric pattern is extremely important to me.”

She draws inspiration from many things, including  inanimate objects for example a chain link fence, a flower, colors in a piece of art, etc. for texturing and as for the clothing itself, her personal style is her greatest inspiration.

I asked Cerise how mesh has impacted on what she designs. She said   “Lol HUGE! Texturing, whether it be mesh or system clothing is difficult at times to make it look REAL! It's easy to simply slap a solid color on an item but that is not designing! Designing is a vision, unique to each of us....and it takes time and patience. Mesh may look more realistic, however, I wish it had the motion and movement that flexi's do. In a perfect SL world that is!”

Her advice to anyone interested in getting into the SL fashion design business is first and foremost, to be kind to others!  She said “being a designer does not make you a "God" or better than anyone else, you simply have a different talent! Also, make it UNIQUE...as I've said, slapping a solid color on an item is not designing!! Take your time, practice and do it well. Yu don't need to spend mega lindens to make an amazing product!”

Cerise plans for Finale Couture on being around for many more years, God willing.  She will continue to growing the business and keeping it as affordable as possible.
Step out in style with class and elegance with Finale Couture.

New kid at the cutting table - Lacy Muircastle reporting ....

Do you know your neats from your knife-pleats; your lettuce hems from your unitards; and your vents from your yokes? Katie does ….  Who’s Katie?  She is an emerging SL fashion designer and her brand is AK Designs, that’s who Katie is.

She is from the UK and works as a charitable volunteer for Oxfam.  She came to SL after she watched a trailer for Second Life.  It immediately piqued her interest and she signed on.  She says it has given h the outlet she needed to express her talents, she said “I’m very creative in real life and love art and clothing design.”

I asked her how she got into fashion in SL and she replied “Well I was thinking of trying my hand at something new and I was always sketching dresses in real life so I decided to teach myself how to texture clothing in Second Life and AK Designs was born.”

Her design style is very elegant and formal and she loves to experiment with sequins and more classical looks.

Power Dressing for Ladies in Second Life - Lacy Muircastle reporting

I was browsing through my flickr when up popped a picture posted by none other that the doyenne of fashion herself Mimi Juneau of Mimi's Choice.  The pic is of a stunning suit by Swaffette Firefly of SF Designs and is just one of her latest offerings.  This prompted me to write this piece on power dressing for the ladies of SL.

I mean really, how could I not, You all should know just how hot you too could look ....

Power dressing need not leave you looking like a 1980s throwback. There are plenty of ways to dress like a powerful sexy modern woman without having to resort to shoulder pads and ill-fitting suit sets. Power dressing is all about exuding confidence in the clothes you’re in, looking sexy at the same time.

Adding a blazer to your outfit is one of the easiest tips for modern power dressing. A well fitted blazer will instantly smarten up your outfit. For a corporate look team a tailored blazer with cigarette pants and patent pumps. Right now the trend is for matching suit sets which is lucky for us as it just screams power dressing. A classic tip for power dressing is to wear well fitting, tailored clothing.

You don’t have to stick to fitted, tailored clothes all the time. Another way to work some power dressing magic into your wardrobe is with luxurious textures. Textures like silk and cashmere are perfect for modern power dressing.

When you’re choosing jewellery for your outfit, keep it classy and elegant. You want pieces that are stylish but not too trend-based or overpowering. Keep jewellery simple and avoid anything too costume-y. Chunky man-style watches are a stylish option if you want a bolder piece of jewellery that is still fairly classic.

Black and grey colours are pretty standard for power dressing, but experiment with colour where you can. Right now we’re seeing a lot of designers embracing boldly coloured matching suit sets. If the occasion allows for it, try wearing a brightly coloured outfit. Red, yellow, orange, blue – take your pick! Alternatively, try adding some colour in the form of accessories like your shoes or a bag.  Either way, a strong dose of colour will give off powerful vibes.

Shoes can say a lot about a person. When it comes to power dressing, a pair of heels is an instant confidence booster. In most cases, you can’t go wrong with a basic black pair of pumps. Choose ones in a patent finish with a more pointed toe for a bit of extra oomph. If you’re in a more creative setting, experiment with different shoe styles that best fit your personality.

When it comes to modern power dressing, you’ve got to wear what you love.  Being confident in your looks is a major part of oozing confidence and power. It’s all about owning your outfit and your look.

A new kid on the fashion block - Lacy Muircastle reporting

It is always exciting to see a new designer arrive, it gives one hope that SL will in fact go on.

David Heather is said new kid on the fashion block, now to say that David Heather designs are unique would be a significant  understatement.

The synopsis of what David Heather offers is as follows:

David Heather offers you a wide range of elegant, creepy, and unique high fashion couture apparel, accessories and skins to set your avatar apart from the masses.

My comment would be that the clothes are not creepy per se but the sim definitely is!  And as long as you are into red, black and white, then all is good.

Over to you to make up your own minds

A fashion show with a twist - Lacy Muircastle reporting .....

As part of its Community Engagement initiative to embrace the greater Second Life community, Street Whores will be presenting a fashion show extraordinaire as the opening event for the autumn festival on the sim.  The girls will be strutting their stuff on a specially designed runway presenting a range of autumn fashion.

The festival kicks off at 1:30pm SL time on Saturday 12th October with the grand fashion parade. For the past few weeks, the girls have been excitedly preparing and as the climax nears everything is coming together.

Three of SLs’ “up and coming” fashion houses are presenting their autumn lines for this festival, those being Shadys’ Gear, Kennedy’s and Needfull Pixel.

Event coordinator Elvira Avedon said that the festival week will start with the grand fashion show accompanied by a music and social event held in the Club Radiance at Street Whores. She believes there is something for everyone in this event which is aimed at boosting the fun for all SL residents and providing a milestone in the SL year. Elvira and other event organisers have visited some of the SL Fashion week events to get ideas and learn how it’s done. Elvira says this is not a competition with established SL fashion events but a fun take on the scene to spread involvement by all sectors of the SL community.

Come along to the Street Whores sim at 1pm SLT |Sarurday 12th October 2013

Squinternet Larnia - rest in peace lovely lady

Dedicated to the talented designer Squinternet Larnia of Donna Flora - who has sadly lost her battle against cancer.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.

I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush

Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.

I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave bereft
I am not there. I have not left.

 - Mary Elizabeth Frye -

In late 2011, Squinternet Larnia of Donna Flora, thought she was suffering from repetitive stress injury, but in that December she learned that the aching in her bones was not from working on the computer but from breast cancer that had metastasized into her bones.  She surprised everyone by rallying at the time. She pursued alternative therapies that gave her energy and strength. They did not cure the cancer, but for a time they managed it. She outlasted her doctor’s prognosis by more than a year
Squinternet you will be missed by all your friends and the SL fashion industry as a whole.

SL Business Interview and Advice - Orchids Zenovka Reporting….

Part 1:

Trying to practice Business without knowledge is like sailing an uncharted sea. I talked to some avis, who have managed to make a success of themselves in business in SL and yet have not forgotten who they were to start out with and have remained true to themselves. These are honest detailed interviews, though lighthearted at times. While it is true that business is dull facts and sheets, there is nothing to stop us from having some fun. Understanding the minds behind the ones who have made a strong business can sometimes be more rewarding than trying to look for easy “tips and tricks” to be successful overnight.
So here’s the candid and amazing Pixy and another secret avi for you artists out there … read on!

View of a Designer

Orchids Zenovka: αмαɭϮнєα Ɗﻉ ɭα Crσιㄨ aka Pixy.Snook ; you are a successful blogger and businesswoman in SL. Thank you for spending time out with us to talk shop :).

Pixy.Snook:  You are SO welcome! I'm honored really. I never expected to be doing an interview.

Orchids: Who’s αмαɭϮнєα Ɗﻉ ɭα Crσιㄨ?

Pixy:  I am me. I'm sugar and spice and everything nice. Toss in some sparkles, something shiny, lots of color, mix in some love, shake it all up and that’s me. The RL me has pink hair, piercings and tattoos - I know many in SL have these but are perfectly 'normal' in RL. I embrace this in RL and SL but I can. I've always held down a job, and had a relatively prosperous career WITH my pink hair but I also have the personality to back it up. I'm cosmo Goth geek, with a smidge of bubble Goth mixed in. I think this tends to reflect in my designs. Oh Ohhh and the name Amalthea - that’s the name of The Last Unicorn, a great cheesy 80's animated movie, the Lady Amalthea. Teenie bit a triva in there I guess and one of my favorite movies.

Summer time in Second life what shall I wear - Tea Couturier Reporting …

Yes it is that time when we put away the Spring wear and start wearing our summer clothing but looking in the wardrobe you notice most of your things are either so last year or just not your style any more. So what does that mean I hear you ask? Well shopping time of course!!

So if you’re not sure of what is hot and sizzling this summer never fear I will show you just a teaser of what I found and think is so summer 2013.

Firstly I found this lovely mesh mini dress which is available in denim and in plaid in different colors. I have chosen the red plaid dress as it would look so summery when accessorized. Pair either of the mini dresses up with cute western boots for that country flair, or with pumps for a more urban appeal. The dress is by Gizza and is priced at 250L

Take a walk on the wild side

Celebrating Spring/Summer Fashion ….   There is an opportunity for designers to step out from their comfort zone and to embrace the non-main stream fashion market….

The girls at Streetwhores SIM in Wirtz are planning a very different event in late May to celebrate spring and its glorious feminine fashions. It’s planned to open up the SIM for a day of riotous fun and fashion where the girls will showcase fashions in a range of categories and be judged by a group of the SIMs’ male visitors. To keep everyone on the boil, there will also be music and a dance party at Club Radiance on the SIM. There will be something for everyone and is a must see for anyone interested in female fashion, springtime or just the company of those normally bawdy girls at Streetwhores.

•the event• H O L L Y W O O D

What do you think when you hear or see the word Hollywood?  Glitz, glamour, fame, fortune?  All of them of course!

And what about the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame?  It was created in 1958 as a tribute to artists and other significant contributors within the entertainment industry with the first star to be permanently installed being that of director, Stanley Kramer. Honourees receive a star based on their achievements in motion pictures, live theatre, radio, television, and/or music, as well as their charitable and civic contributions.

And now in Second Life we have our very own Hollywood and walk of fame presented by non-other than the inimitable Ivy Maverick in conjunction with the ever magnanimous Ramses Meredith, who is also responsible for the sim design.  Way to go you two, it is stunning.

Somewhere in the metaverse ....

The metaverse looms large and is an unknown quantity for many, but for those in the know it is a magical place, a place with a sense of community, purpose and hope.

One very special place in the metaverse is Second Life.  This vibrant virtual world radiates creative energy and is the epitome of the concept of Ubuntu.  Ubuntu is not an easy concept to define but to put it simply it is a culture whereby everything that is done is done for the benefit of the community and by the community.
Right now in Second Life, the Relay for Life Fashion Fair is taking place.  Talk about something for the community by the community …. The time and effort that has gone into putting this spectacular event together has been phenomenal, and it has all been done in the name of charity.

Fall Activities in Second Life - Cecilia Rose Reporting...

This article was to be dedicated to fall activities, but I'll confess that it looks more like all seasons in one. OK now let's see what fields we will try to cover: Sales, Hunts and Events.  These three happen all year around, but we'll focus on the most recent ones.

Sales: Without exaggeration, this is the favorite pastime of the feminine of the species. Most of the shops in Second Life offer weekly sales rather than monthly ones. So, I am going to give you a useful list of the very best of the branded shops and examples of their weekly sales.

Of course, the sales don't stop at what you see posted here, there is plenty more to find and buy without breaking the bank.

Prêt-à-Porter SL Style…. Lacy Muircastle reporting

Way back in 2010 I wrote an article on Prêt-à-Porter SL Style where I mentioned that ‘style is a deeply personal expression of who you are and every time you dress, you are asserting a part of yourself. Image is the foundation of visual credibility, personal presence and non-verbal communications.’

I have decided to resurrect this concept and I will be making regular postings about outfits, accessories, hair, shoes, shapes and skins that catch my eye in the wonderful world of fashion in Second Life.

Spotlight on .... Mimi's Choice

Mimi’s Choice is an extremely well known fashion outlet in Second Life and Mimi Juneau herself is considered the Doyenne of SL fashion.

Mimi decided very early on in her SL that she wanted to be a reseller of some of the best brands that SL has to offer and I think that most of you would agree with me that she has achieved exactly that.

Mimi’s Choice has been on the grid for 6 years and is still going strong and in Second Life this is no mean feat, bearing in mind the fluidity of the commercial side of things and in fact of the community as a whole.
Mimi’s goal, in fact her passion, is to make sure that the avatars of SL, both male and female alike look gorgeous.
