A Second Life. A Safe Harbor from Domestic Violence.- Silkysoulstar Reporting…

In 70-80% of intimate partner homicides, no matter which partner was killed, the man physically abused the woman before the murder.

Somewhere in South Florida diesel fumes could be smelled in the air while the loud Motor Coach bus rattled, and Faye said goodbye to her husband. She waved to him unremarkably even though she was still a little frail and exhausted. Her mind was in disrepair, but resolved as she rolled her suitcase to the busman to throw into the space underneath. It was a dark night with no moonlight at all, and the red and blue lights of police beacons were spinning in the distance away from her own situation. She climbed into the bus to find her seat, and left him. Finally.

Weeks earlier, her husband had come home with prostitutes. Faye, malnourished to skin and bones, weakened, tired, unwashed, and beginning to feel sick dutifully took off her clothes as the prostitutes denuded with her.  The rented women fawned over her, all together naked on a carpet that had not been vacuumed in ages.  They fussed over her pretty, yet stringy and clumpy hair.

The three women kissed and coo’d together, panting incessantly while he watched. Two of them professionally teemed outwardly like wild felines preying for sexual mating. Faye submitted willingly and survived by kissing back, flicking her tongue inside the mouths of the painted Cougars who ordered it.  Her husband delighted in the hookers inflicting their wills on her.  They restrained her, fiddled with her clitoris until she screamed, and then forced themselves onto her face and demanded her to lick them furiously until they faked their own climaxes for him.

After having sex with the women, he left her in the house alone.  He would spread his corruption across the rest of the night somewhere. She convinced herself it was a good night and that she even enjoyed the company. Faye put herself together, finding some clothes to wear on her broken body, possibly just a t shirt and jeans that were the only kind that she had that fit her just the way she liked. She took stock in anything that would comfort her, no matter how small, to build up just enough strength to log into Second Life.
She heard him come home hours later before dawn. Drunk. He told her that she was so pretty and that the other girls loved her, but he loved her more. She went AFK from her Second Life while he took her to the bedroom and began to have sex with her. She let him have his way with her because he seemed nicer than earlier that night, and she flashed back to the image of the strong police officer she had fell in love with, and then married.  His compliments were nothing in the grand scheme of things, but they were something in that moment nonetheless, and she had conditioned herself to find value in anything no matter how insignificant just so she could put up with her growing insanity.

She let herself fall into this cycle of abuse, and became conditioned to a degree of disheveled fitness to withstand it. How could she escape it? After all, they shared their lives. Their home, relatives, finances, worldly resources all were commingled. And wasn’t all this her fault anyway? She could see and feel herself getting less attractive. Certainly that’s why he began to bring home the prostitutes. He still also said often that he loved her.
He passed out next to her, exhausted and drunk from his disgusting midnight galavants unable to finish having sex. She laid next to him in the bed weak, and feeling heavy. The sort of heavy feeling that hurts and comes from a depressed lifelessness. She thought of anything pleasant about her life, and reminded herself that he was somehow after all taking care of her. Comforted by her fabrication, she fell asleep.

She stayed laying in bed, absent of energy in the morning as he heroically shook off his headache in front of her, and headed off into the world to serve and protect. She pushed herself to get up after he left. During the day Faye worked professionally from their computer at home. Her performance with her work was suffering, though, as a consequence of barely being able to keep herself together, but she mustered up the effort over and over again to recover whatever missteps she had taken. Slow to get tasks done, she concentrated on them fiercely one at a time to finally squeeze out her assignments. Her ability to multitask had long been destroyed. Somehow they kept her around, maybe even forgetting she was there to be let go. She had this at least.

Faye’s husband laid passed out in front of the television from all of the beer he had drank. He wasn’t an alcoholic, but a full week of work and erratic sleep coming from leading a life in the fast lane had caught up with him. She was online in Second Life while chatting with a girlfriend via Skype, living her alternative life to pursue both relief from her reality, and her fetish for submission.

The time she spent in the Second Life world was typically later at night while he was out, or after he had fallen asleep, perhaps drunk. Sometimes he beat her, and sometimes he just held her roughly while demanding his points. His mind was so clouded from everything he was seeing or doing in his own life that he had no judgement that restrained himself from hurting her. Sometimes she just escaped with the laptop to the bathroom. She hid everything she did on the computer from him, even sending her chat logs and other game viewer data to secret file folders that were not obviously found on their computer. She was fortunately much more skilled with computers than he was.

Faye joined a group of women that gravitated toward one Master in Second Life, and met Katrina as one of her sisters. As Katrina got to know Faye, and chatted with her, she sensed that things weren’t well. Faye was getting obsessive about her avatar’s appearance, and she was also terribly eager to please her Second Life Master in ways that, well, just seemed off.  Katrina began to get concerned, maybe even a bit fearfully.

Besides her friend’s obvious communication patterns that signaled distress, Katrina was having flashes of disturbing images. In her mind these were foreboding premonitions. She saw clearly the trunk of an off duty police officer’s car, with guns and punishing instruments inside. She felt strongly that her Second Life friend was destined for a violent death. He would possibly beat her, shout at her, and kill her.

Once Katrina approached a Second Life acquaintance and pleaded with her to take her loved one to the doctor. To the woman, Katrina was behaving irrationally, and her hysterics almost made her unfriend her.  The woman’s loved one was feeling under the weather with flu, not seriously ill. However at the doctor after all, they found cancer in her that was treated so that she could survive it.

Another time, while helping a new friend learn basic Second Life skills, Katrina begged her SL newbie to stay at home in Real Life after she had indicated that she needed to log off suddenly.  Katrina urged her new acquaintance to not take her children shopping, even though her new acquaintance did not tell her that she intended to do exactly that. Katrina kept the young mother online long enough, appearing hysterically irrational again now to someone she barely knew. Eventually as things got extended, the woman quit her Second Life viewer to put her children into her car to drive out on their errand. The road to the shopping plaza was blocked from the clean-up of a frightening scene where cars had crashed disastrously only recently. The event shook up Katrina’s friend so terribly that she went home and sat on her bed holding her babies tightly. Without hearing back, Katrina stayed up all night feeling shock inside herself that created a vision of her friend safe at home on the bed, with her children.

So as Katrina has learned to cope with seeing images that seem to be mostly from panic-stricken, or tragic moments, she desperately still tries to help people avoid the dangers she envisions.

Katrina told Faye she could see peril, harm, and depression in Faye’s life, and Faye told her she was right. The feeling inside Katrina was growing so strong that it hurt herself. Violence was coming to Faye. She could see very certainly that loud conflict, brutality, and death would happen one night to Faye. It would come from the hands of her husband, as he would use the objects and weapons in the trunk of that car that she could so clearly see in her mind. She pleaded with Faye to address her dangerous environment proactively, but Faye had to escape her brainwashed condition and see things for herself before Katrina could help her.

Over a period of weeks, Katrina mentored Faye via Second Life and Skype, reinforcing to her that she was a beautiful and intelligent woman. Katrina reminded Faye that being the submissive in a relationship did not mean greeting infatuation without strength. Submissives do not need to be walked all over recklessly by a Dominant. For Katrina, teaching was a way to reach out and get a connection to Faye so that she could help her, and fortunately Faye gladly gravitated toward Katrina’s care.

One night during a group session via Skype, the reality of Faye’s situation began to outpour. The violence. The depression. The forced sex with prostitutes that she had convinced herself that she actually enjoyed. During that night when her personal life cracked wide open to her Second Life group members directly in the Skype conversation, a cloud impairing Faye’s judgement to defend herself also began to lift at the same time. Faye began to cry as the group also began to realize the tragic nature of what they were hearing.  Fountains, rivers, streams, oceans of tears began to flood Faye’s cheeks. Group members online felt quite shocked by the thought of being so close to someone that was being hurt so badly in ways they had only heard statistics previously. To Katrina she felt relief that a sense of caring, from the progress of hours of contact with Faye was finally beginning to produce a desperate rescue.

Katrina began to make even more progress helping Faye understand that every bad situation can be solved. There was an aunt several states away, and a plan to file a restraining order against her husband just prior to escaping.  But first Faye needed to get her strength back, and like a true caregiver and nurturer Katrina ordered Faye to drink, shower, put on makeup and repeat positive reinforcement into the mirror every day until she was ready.  Instructions at times were so very basic; Start slowly. Put one sip and one bite of food into yourself. Your body can’t handle a full meal immediately.

Faye stood up for herself at work when finally faced with a certain dismissal, and she was able to extend her employment enough. Her performance improved just slightly and she felt better about that. She built up the the nerves to convince her husband to let her visit her Aunt. Somehow he agreed to her travel, not suspecting his wife to have any confidence or self awareness whatsoever to pull off a daring escape.  Perhaps he thought it would be even more time for him to break from the situation, and to abuse more prostitutes directly. We don’t know.

But the night came for Faye to board that Motor Coach and leave him forever. She thanked God she never got pregnant to give birth to a son her husband had always wanted. When she left and filed for divorce, it hurt his pride terribly. But she was several states away and with the restraining order there wasn’t anything he could do.
One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime.
Faye survived the violence of an abusive relationship and her personal rebuild is still underway. She will likely have emotional scars that will never disappear in her lifetime. But she is alive, and has Katrina and her Second Life to thank in part.

It’s ironic too, to think that she was so weak to submit herself to the abuse willingly and repeatedly, but in fact she was after all strong enough to withstand it, and then to eventually escape it.  There’s safety and strength in numbers and community to help us, but there’s also a strength inside all of us that we should never forget can also save ourselves. Sometimes it takes someone special to remind us, no matter how untraditional the contact might be.

Spotlight on Daddy-O’s – Silky Soulstar Reporting…

The saxophone solo from Gerry Rafferty’s Baker’s Street plays melodically in the background as a Playboy playmate wins the volleyball battle of the sexes against Daddy-O’s owner Mark Ussy.  Everyone is laughing at Ussy because the playmate is hardly attired for volleyball and is actually wearing a dress. But mind you this is no ordinary playmate. She’s SL Playboy Mansion co-owner Jennifer Beverly.

Later, a beautiful sunset graces the boardwalk at the shore, but people are drawn to the party inside the bowling alley and diner where DJ Weeblewolf Pinion spins more music in his own self-deprecating style.  Innuendos, wolf-howls, and silly humor soar as people mock, yet at the same time give into the celestial orb sploder.  It’s as amusing as it is rewarding, and enough to inspire you to get out of your IM’s and into Local Chat.

By itself, Daddy-O’s is a wonderfully creative entertainment destination for Second Lifers. The breathtaking sunset and sunrise views are perfect venues for couples to take in a romantic dance. And besides the aforementioned bowling alley and its monthly high score contest, a working pool table, large boardwalk, and unique shops also offer visitors good ways to socially come together and enjoy their time in SL.

Even during times when no events are taking place at Daddy-O’s, visitors can click around the SIM and pick the songs they want to hear by using the Wolf Howls jukeboxes.  However, occasional social tie-ins with the SL Playboy Mansion adjacent on the SIM also give Daddy-O’s real entertainment cache from time to time.

Ultimately regardless of what is happening on SIM, fun rules.  And Mark Ussy takes his fun seriously-fun. That is about as serious as we need to be with that statement.  The SL Enquirer sat down with Mr. Ussy to see what the fun at Daddy-O’s is all about.

Enquirer: You have a lot of interactivity on the SIM, things to play with.

Mark Ussy: “I liken it to having a group gathering in RL at a local community park.  Missy and I wanted to develop a place where people can come and interact with each other. Use the SIM as it’s laid out to make their own fun regardless of whether an event is going on or not.”

Enquirer: The SIM’s imagery is kind of fun to browse. It feels a little bit like Mystic Pizza.

Mark Ussy: “I think our approach is pretty unique. We did it in retro to give it that feel-good, feel-at-home ambiance.”

Enquirer: Sort of summer at the Jersey Shore, or Southern California?

Mark Ussy: “Exactly! That is the kind of feeling we were inspired to provide. Heck you can bring your family here and enjoy a night out with no hassles ... just good family fun. Or bring your significant other and enjoy the dance areas, and the incredible sunset views at our Sunset Park as you dance to the songs you pick in the jukebox. It’s all up to you!”

Enquirer: You have a couple of partnerships on the SIM.  It’s a nice sign of collaboration.

Mark Ussy: “Along with our SIM partner the SL Playboy Mansion we get a lot of crossover crowds. They may do the event at the Mansion then come to Daddy-O's to bowl or just hang out. And Weeblewolf Pinion’s The Wolf Howls jukebox allows visitors to choose their music while they enjoy all that we have to offer on the SIM as well. We know that this is a real change in the paradigm of SL entertainment, and we feel it’s time to get the word out to all the grid about what we have to offer.”

Enquirer: That sounds interesting.  Are there any other SL trends you are keeping your eye on?

Mark Ussy: “In all honesty we try to stick to our core beliefs and mission. Sure we have our events, but we felt SL was so "events structured" that we wanted to give people the chance to just come and enjoy themselves in whatever form that takes...within reason of course.”

Enquirer: So it is all about the fun.

Mark Ussy: “As is our tagline … Daddy-O’s is where fun rulez!”

Indeed Daddy-O’s might be the best kept secret in SL. But rest assured that is not for long. Visit the shore, take in the atmosphere, and let your fun rule.

3P: Power, Pleasure and Passion- A Peek Inside Bondage, Discipline, Dominance, Submission, Sadism and Masochism- Silky Soulstar Reporting…

That’s BDSM for short, and a fertile ground for unsavory types to take advantage of sweet innocents.

All judging and secret thoughts of kinky danger aside, for many people BDSM is just an edgy concept that excites them to explore physical or emotional limits. How edgy, depends on how much you want to push.  As a submissive, do you trust your Dominant to take you safely on a path that won’t scar you -- but instead will be borderline-euphoric?

We know BDSM to be a lifestyle of choice for so many SL residents because they think we can pursue the passions that come with that experience more conveniently, or safely.

How much safer can we pursue a BDSM lifestyle in SL than in RL?

“In SL you can poof, but in real life you cannot,” explains Master Jae Avedon of Power Pleasure Passion.  “And there are also laws on physical pain in reality, that don’t necessarily apply in SL. There is a lot of mental pain in SL. We tend to deal with that.”

Pleasure Power Passion (abbreviated P3) is a sim group that does the subject of BDSM justice, lending a cerebral air of credibility to an often misunderstood space.  The SL Enquirer had a chance to interview key members of the group on the subject of role playing safety. And while somehow making all of his P3 constituents more than comfortable, Master Jae controlled the interview as you would expect a true Dominant could.

In Second Life, just as in reality, there’s more to BDSM than just one role player’s liking to order other role players around.  And there is more to Dominant/submissive relationships than transfer of pain, or risk.

“A Dominant knows a submissive will never use her safe word,” says Mrs. Zam Tibbits also of P3.

Alternatively, “give a submissive trust and they break it, they break it.  The relationship falls pretty quickly,” adds Master Jae Avedon.

On the subject of pursuing that trust, safely, the members of P3 know how to address various perils head-on.

“We kind of deal mostly with the Dominant / submissive relationship. D/s light,” says Master Jae.  After some thorough matchmaking, “Submissives go off with their Dominant, and the Dominant sets the relationship. Trust gets applied over time. The Dominant evaluates how well his submissive reacts to stimuli along the way. That’s one way we go.”

The other way is more provocative. In the sim’s most risqué offering, submissive and sim owner Tricia Velde brokers the auction of other submissives to their prospective Dominants.  “The female has total control of when she is sold to a male.  Everything goes through Tricia.  All communication and meetings are brokered through Tricia,” explains Master Jae while elaborating on the element of safety involved.

Carosell, P3 event coordinator, respects how the group deals with predators in particular.  Master Jae expanded on that point for her by taking a sanity check beyond the confines of SL’s metaverse;  “Predators in SL are phishing. We call them Financial Dominants. Look, we don’t know who these people (in RL) are.”

It’s that kind of rationalization across SL and RL that makes P3 work so well to address the topic of safety, and ultimately makes the group so successful with its members.

P3 asks people looking to enter into relationships to go through a variety of interview stages.  Members answer questions and provide ratings for their limits on various subjects on a scale of 0 - 5, and are then matched by a matchmaking process.

So the sim offers a variety of paring processes and opportunities to make certain relationships get courted safely.

Other elements of the P3 group include a library with original theses on the subject of BDSM roleplay.  There are also classes and social groups for submissives and Dominants. Subtle details factoring safety abound within the group activities; including permitting submissives to attend Dominants workshops so that they learn more about Dominants in their relationships -- but also not allowing Dominants to join workshops for submissives so that submissives can be protected in an environment that encourages them to openly learn and participate.  That being said, “submissives are encouraged to not be rooks and rollover,” adds Mrs. Tibbits.

The group at Pleasure Power Passion likes to think by actively teaching points on loyalty, joy, communication, trust, honesty, respect, and forgiveness that they approach the topic of BDSM with a fair bit of safety. All the sim processes, information, chat sessions, and classes the group hosts are ways to get everyone involved in this space safely. If you are at all curious to pursue the topic further, and safely, attend one of their group sessions or read up on the subject in the P3 library found via the link below.

I’M A CHRISTMAS TREE HUGGER- Silky Soulstar Reporting...

December 1, 2008: “I’m here to apply for the job as Christmas Tree.”

Now that’s a funny reply within a conversation, and hardly the kind of response that would someday lead to thousands of dollars raised globally to benefit needy children.  But in Norway a Christmas tree can humorously be anything audaciously colorful, and RL NorwegianSunday Laks had just TP’d into SL’s Asian Teahouse for women wearing a dress that was over-the-top with color.  She really didn't know that she was about to start a project that would become really generous.

We all know that our SL meta-world can encourage something creatively bizarre to morph into something unexpected and wonderful.  So rather inauspiciously, Teahouse founder Sapphia Duccrat appointed Sunday Laks as her official living Christmas Tree.  And oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas Tree, Sunday stood dutifully at her post in the Teahouse.

Six years later, on December 20, 2014, Sunday was still standing for a little while, and on duty at the Teahouse in a dress custom-designed by her favorite designer Eliza Wierwright of Patron. These days while adorned in her pretty Christmas Tree dress, Sunday surrounds herself with presents and a tip jar to raise donations to SOS Childrens Villages International.

Hermann Gmeiner founded the first SOS Childrens Village in Austria in 1949 to help orphans suffering as a result of World War II.  The charity has grown to include villages in 134 countries globally.  In each center, children are afforded schools, health care, and other family-based services.

“I stood here all of December that first year, and thought of it more like an artistic performance.  I was doing security duties as well of course.”

And the next year she did the same until someone suggested that she should have a tip jar.

“I figured I might as well do something useful while I was standing here, so I made this jar and the gifts and all.  And I started emoting when the girls tipped me.”

That first year Sunday raised L$ 133,000 and donated it to SOS Childrens Villages at the end of the month. The Teahouse is now owned by Maia Mimulus, and the venue is still very pleased to have Sunday on staff.  Maia donates all of the Teahouse December donations to the same SOS Childrens Villages charity.  This month-to-date, Sunday and the Asian Teahouse have raised over $L 76,000.

Why did she pick her charity?

“SOS Childrens Villages has a very high reputation in Norway and I trust them, they also have less admin costs of any of the big charity organizations I know.  They have websites in many languages, which is good in this multi-cultural virtual world.  I have also visited one of their villages in Thailand, that's why I picked them in the first place.”

This year, Sunday is adding a gift to each person who donates in the form of an “I’m a Christmas Tree Hugger” tag.

“It’s my payback for standing here all year doing nothing but looking pretty,” she adds.

And so the charity continues inspiring each year.  Sunday’s Christmas charm shines like the star that the original shepherds followed.

“People are drawn to her,” gushes Teahouse staffer Vivian Karfield.

Maybe we’re drawn to support and give to her charity as 'tis the season.  Or maybe we're just in awe of the sweet girl in a Christmas Tree dress. Whatever it is you can't quite place, there is really something about Sunday that is really inspirational, or even part magical.  Everyone who meets her believes.

Her smile is infectious through the words she chats, “One year I had a great tipper.  She asked me how much I had so far, and then she put in the same amount on my last day.  Miracles happen when I least expect them.”

Yes they do!  And after my own donation, I can say that I believe too, and am officially privileged to be a Christmas Tree Hugger.

The event opened at 6am Saturday June 7th and runs through midnight on June 20th to campaign and raise funds benefiting the American Cancer Society.

We really like that Fashion For Life inspires in-world collaboration and socialization for a great cause.  The FFL event truly is an example of the power SL can apply to our Real Lives.

Fashion For Life is one of the ‘mega-events’ associated with the popular Relay For Life, and is the only fashion-inspired SL event officially tied to RFL.  There are ten beautifully crafted sims to explore that feature more than 150 designers of clothing, accessories and poses.  All items are exclusive to the Fashion For Life event through June 20th.  You can’t get these items anywhere else!

Every item on sale at the Fashion For Life event is also a donation item.  Designers and creators donate anywhere between 15 – 100% of all sales to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Observing Memorial Day in the Real & Virtual Worlds- Silky Soulstar Reporting...

MEMORIAL DAY observances ranging from the sublime to the obviously salacious abound in Second Life; and are open to everyone from all corners of the Globe, and from every space found in our cozy little metaverse.

I’ve always found it impressive when I meet people from just about any country you can imagine, and yet they KNOW very well about my USA holidays.  Monday, May 26, 2014 is MEMORIAL DAY in the United States.  It is a day of recognition of our past and present military servicewomen and servicemen.  And it is particularly a day of remembrance for our fallen heroes, like my own Uncle and Godparent.

Although it is celebrated with a special day of observation in the U.S., I find it touching that it is also acknowledged by my global friendships.  And for that I am grateful, as well as proud.

Our Avatars exist in a metaverse, but are guided by RL people with hearts and souls.  So it is with honor, really, that I write this destination guide for the SL Enquirer about how our unique virtual world recognizes the very REAL sacrifices made by living souls, working to ultimate ends to keep peace for global citizens.

At Veterans Isle (192, 201, 23) you will find an in-world replica of the Real Life monument that reads

If you are looking for a great place to spend a few moments of reverence this Monday, May 26th 2014, the U.S. Military Veterans Center is a must-see destination for your teleporter.  You can also donate to the Wounded Warrior Project while you are there.

There are a host of other venues in SL well worth a visit this Memorial Day, 2014.  If no times are noted below, the event goes for the entire day.

Avi Poll -- Detecting Gender Imposters in SL- Silky Soulstar Reporting…

Real life gender always seems to be a topic of hot debate, especially for those with something to hide.  But even though there are those who always say that gender just does not matter, there are times when it does without a doubt. So how do you detect the gender imposter?

First let’s send away the argument that RL gender does not matter.  Sometimes it may not, but other times it does unmistakably. Motives behind males masquerading as females can be scary enough, or even predatory in nature. Lesbian women in particular struggle with protecting their rights to congregate in a safe environment.  There is an odd and sexually-charged fascination certain men have with women in same-sex relationships.  Lesbian women need the space to fully experience and keep their relationships in a harassment-free environment.

SL Playboy Bunny Steps Out In Style Wearing Fashion by Seldom Blue

Playboy Playmate Silky Soulstar was recently spotted wearing this hot little number at a recent pre Valentine’s Day warm-up in Old New York.

“It’s the Sylvia from Seldom Blue,” said the starlet who is becoming quite as well known now for her sense of style as much as for her penchant for posing completely sans clothing.
“I just enjoy Indigoblue’s flowing and flirty styling.  And her personality can be as whimsical as my own.  I just love, love, love how I feel wearing Seldom Blue!”

No word yet on when we might be seeing this flirty Playmate again in her birthday suit, but until then we certainly enjoy seeing her dressed to the nines in her fashions by Seldom Blue.
