Spotlight on Enchanted Alice: Being Alice in Wonderland- Debby Sharma Reporting...

Photograph Credits: Rex Havoc

UPDATED 1-3-15
Enchanted Alice is currently relocating, when it is settled at its new location we will share the teleport link!

“Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late.” The white rabbit ran past Alice, down into the hole. His pink eyes glistened while holding a watch in his hand. Alice was curious and followed Mr. Rabbit down the hole. Have you ever wondered what would you have done if you were given the same place and the same situation?

Enchanted Alice is a wonderful place with a mad house, a library, a caterpillar lounge, a cavern, a maze, a tea pot, a raining room and a rope swing. Rex and Angel Havoc have created a truly enchanted place with lots of things to do. They say, “Explore a twisted adventure in a new take on Alice! Crawl through the Looking Glass, explore various levels, use our anywhere doors, check out our animations. We are still a little twisted and a little mad but we are always enchanted!”

I had the privilege of interviewing one of the creators, Rex Havoc.

Debby Sharma: Please tell us something about yourself and your life in Second Life.
Rex Havoc: I've been in world in one form or another since 2007. I am a husband, a father, an uncle, a cook and the chief bottle washer here on our parcel. I also dj on certain occasions; I love to build, design and explore. I am not a fan of shopping though; despite what my wife and kids might think.

Photograph Credits: Rex Havoc

Debby Sharma: How did the idea of Enchanted Alice happen? Why an Alice in Wonderland theme among all the fables?

Rex Havoc: It happened by accident. I Dj, my host and wife suggested a theme for the evening, the main idea was 'Your Favorite Fairy Tale'; I asked her to elaborate, the suggestion was Alice in Wonderland. I built a set for that event and well, the rest is history! It grew and blossomed from there. I originally built it for her, she was my Alice and I was the Mad Hatter, we had fun with it, building and tweaking the set, it grew from there. Angel started showing it off to friends and eventually we decided to share it with the masses. Our virtual world had grown. A few parcels later, we have grown into what you see today, an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland combined with The Madness a twisted spin off of American McGee as interpreted by me.

Photograph Credits: Melanie von Prague

Debby Sharma: There are some very unique scenes like the rain room. Have you been shot listing the themes for long time or are they something you always wished for?

Archer Mactavish: There are indeed a few different twists and turns here on our parcel. I haven't followed a storyboard per-say, other than Alice falls down a rabbit hole and then her twisted adventure begins in the library. Here she interacts with various items, reads a book, swings from a chandelier is memorized by a cat chasing a gold fish in a bowl. She crawls through our looking glass into a strange and dark hall. She sees aspects of herself from the days she spent in the asylum (from the Madness Returns). She interacts with the Cheshire cat and again falls further into the depths of Enchanted Alice. There are various rooms here on many different levels, the 'Rain Room' is just one of these areas, it's near the end of Alice's journey. It's her retreat, a place to chill, relax and enjoy the sounds of raindrops falling. On occasion she has been caught dancing to the sounds emanating from our club, 'The Mad House'.

At our entrance there is a sign that reads, 'The most amazing gift you can receive is the gift of Adventures. Enchanted Alice is an adventure. It is meant to be explored; it's a parcel built for fun and it's very detailed. You may have to explore to find though, for instance we have an old crow aptly named Edgar Allen Crow. You can eat cake with the Mad Hatter and his entourage from Happy Days! and so much more. For instance my wife Angel penned the perfect poem on what you will experience here, it reads.

Cheshire cats and rabbits in hats
A mushroom house, a scurrying mouse
Little doors and lopsided floors
Pictures to take and memories to make
The Mad Hatter, awake for hours, just to find the perfect flowers
A March hare, a floating chair
Poses, roses, waterfalls
In her madness, Alice roams the halls
A thought began, all such a long time ago
Zip the line, watch the river flow
A wish here , a dream there, twisted madness everywhere
We're all mad! (or so they say)
Be amazing and have an ENCHANTED DAY

Photograph Credits: Melanie von Prague

Debby Sharma: Since when did you start working on them and what or who were your inspirations?

Rex Havoc: Each build has combined various attributes from Alice in her many different forms, whether it be Alice in Wonderland, American McGee or The Madness Returns. My inspirations have come from within and through many conversations with my wife. I like to refer to these as 'Brain Farts'. Laughs. I take it from there, give it some thought, build a prim and let my mind interact with my surroundings. I create and build. After all it is my twisted interpretation of all things, Alice.
Photograph Credits: Debby Sharma

Debby Sharma: What would we see in the future? Any further projects related to Enchanted Alice?

Rex Havoc: Talking about that 'Rain Room' has given me a few more idea's indeed. Only the Cheshire cat knows for sure what the Mad Hatter is brewing underneath his Hat! (Gawd! what have you done.) Yes indeed the parcel is always changing, whether it be minor or major items. Make sure to join Enchanted Alice and keep abreast of all our happenings, whether it be the songs our Minstrels spin in our club, The Madhouse to the live singers in our Caterpillar Lounge, there is always something happening here for sure! Have an Enchanted Day!

An Evening of Truth with Leesa Donner- Ccoursey reporting...

Leesa Donner is a professional model in Second Life, she is also a business owner of Anchor and Compass Pub and Truthballs. The Truthball is what you see set out at parties and clubs. When someone clicks on it it asks in nearby chat a preloaded question.  Questions can be Adult or even PG, depending on what kind are loaded by the owner.  They are a great icebreaker and a fun way of keeping the nearby chat flowing in clubs.  I stopped by to look at the store and Leesa's newest edition of Statue Truthballs. The statueTruthballs are meant to be a more artistic edition for people who didn't just want the balls sitting around.
There are many different types, including seasonal, the basic truthballs, and now the BDSM Statues.

I was pleased to see Leesa showed up while I was there checking them out.

Ccoursey:  How did you come up with the idea behind the Truthball?

Leesa Donner:  Well, one of my best friends and I were wondering around SL and there was a tiny, very crappy Truth or Dare game with about 25 questions inside.  The game did not work well, but the basic concept I liked so decided to make a better one.  One that did not repeat the questions, did not jam, and one that had good content and looked nice.  We have way more content than anyone and our content is good.... You can pick whatever mood suits you.  So I partnered with friends to help me build it, a programmer and an object creator.

Ccoursey:  Do you come up with new questions on a regular basis? So they can be added to the ones already bought?

Leesa Donner:  I did a lot in the beginning, and then I partnered with customers who now are part of my guest writer program... So they make 50% of all sales of their questions... But we have to approve the questions for quality.  The balls hold up to 32 sets and we offer over 50 sets total in every topic you can imagine...  I have had some health issues over the last three years and I am better now so I am refocusing to make Truthball even better and add new content.

Ccoursey:  Do your friends (the programmer and object creator) still help you as well?

Leesa Donner:  Yes... My relationship with the programmer is on going as needed... And my original artist is Torus Heliosense and I have a new artist helping now who is Jhan Lionheart (andrejohan).  Torus is on doing a lot of new products for his own business but we are still business partners on Truthball as he made all my other content.

Ccoursey:  Do you plan to keep your focus on Truthball or do you have other plans in the future?  I have been looking at the Truth Statues, your newest editions.

Leesa Donner:  Yes, these are brand new.  We are planning more.  Johan will be adding to these as RL permits.  We will make more modest ones.
We guarantee product satisfaction and we can create custom gifts for the Holidays... Customers would need to contact me and drop a note card with their requests.  These make great gifts.  They break the ice in SL and get folks talking.  We think it is a great addition to SL.

Ccousey:  When you say custom, if I had an object I would like to make into a Truthball would it be possible?

Leesa Donner:  Mostly yes, it would depend on the object... If the object is easy enough to drop the code and questions in and it is mod., sure.  We could test it out or, you can pick one of these objects and customize the sets inside.  That is mostly what I meant but other objects can work too.  So if you wanted a more PG ball, we would pick out those sets.
My friends have played for over 4 hours and not made a dent in the questions.  There are over 50 sets of 50 questions per set.  No one else comes close or lets you control the content you want.
By the way, I use my proceeds to support a venue and live music.

Ccoursey: Thank you so much Leesa for taking time out for us and bringing the Truthball to SL.  We'll leave on the note on Leesa's note which I thought was more than fitting consider the Truthball's start and what it is used for now:  "Truthball is a labor of love, friendship, and community."

Leesa has a store set up at Couture Boulevard- http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Couture%20Boulevard/223/87/22 ,

There is a lot to the Truthballs.

The R.A.FT.- A Unique Club/Lounge Opening up on the Water at Coco Caye- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Have you ever partied on a raft in the middle of the water without falling off?  Probably not but in Second Life we all know anything is possible. Located at Coco Caye, the R.A.F.T is a club and lounge that holds events three times a week. Owner Psych Asylum, Co owner Aja Direwytch and their crew have created the perfect hangout for adventure seekers that love to party and have fun on the open water, sailing or jumping the waves on a jet ski. Upon landing you will find yourself in the middle of the water on a raft. You can go straight to the dance floor, hit the bar for a drink or fall back into one of the comfy lounge chair to observe the action.  Just be warned that you may come across a pirate or even a witch at the party.
We sat down with one of the owners of the R.A.F.T to find out more about this unique place.

Lanai: Hi Aja, the R.A.F.T is an interesting place to throw parties, it is away from the mainland and surrounded by water on all sides. What was the inspiration behind this unique club/lounge?

Aja: Rypmav and I decided to buy the region we lived on, Coco Caye. We knew we always wanted a place for friends etc to come and hang out but once we started to edit the region it looked so beautiful with all the water surrounding it that we decided to start our club. It helps that we have been RL friends for many years and are very similar but the opposite at the same time.

Lanai: It is certainly an advantage to work on Second Life projects with someone you know in RL. You recently had a soft opening of this new venue, how was the turn out?

Aja: Turn out was good. We got and still are getting good numbers. We are thankful to all our friends who continue to support us.

Lanai: That's great. What type of music genres do you normally feature?

Aja: We have different DJs playing different genres on different nights. We feature good music from electro and house to rock and metal. We aim to not have DJs playing tunes that can be heard any time on the radio. We look for something different.

Lanai: Uniqueness is important and a variety fmusic is a good thing. It takes a team to run a tight ship..errr raft. Who is part of your crew and what do they do?
Aja: As we are just getting started we are a small team. Rypmav is an awesome DJ so as well as being co owner he is the house DJ and the more outgoing i would say. I play treasurer, host, sales and marketing but we both pretty much wear all the hats we need to when we need to. We also have DJs with recurring sets they are: DJ Wayne, DJ Chris, DJ Mateo and DJ Nyx. Exo is a good friend of ours and also our Squatter. She helps us out when we need a host or need to bring in more traffic. We are grateful for all the attention she has brought to our little club.

Lanai: You will be hosting events three times a week, will there be contests and themes?

Aja: We are currently setting up a course for duck races and jet ski races. These events will be pay to join and will pay out a L$ prize for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Lanai: That sounds like fun. When is your official grand opening?
Aja: Soon we hope! We have almost covered all the issues that have popped up during the soft opening and we hope to have a big grand opening before Christmas

Lanai: Are you hiring Djs and Hosts? If so, who should they contact?
Aja: We are hiring more DJs and Hosts but it can be hard to find reliable staff sometimes. We are hiring now. They can contact myself or rypmav. They can also send an email to theraftsl@gmail.com

Lanai: What do you think is the most important part about creating a venue that is successful?

Aja: I think a lot of different people are on SL and you end up with a lot of different tastes and opinions. We just try to be real and be ourselves. We wanted a place where people could come and be themselves without judgment. Everyone is welcome at the R.A.F.T furry, human, vamp, lycan, gay, straight, yellow, blue, whatever you are. Come as you are and do what you feel but please respect everyone and have fun. Ask me again in a year if we have a successful venue haha

Lanai:  I'll keep that in mind for next year lol. Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?
Aja: We are not one of the big commercial clubs. We just wanted to give people a beautiful place to hang out or party. You go to some clubs and everyone is in IM and stuck in dance or whatever. You come to the R.A.F.T and people are throwing water balloons at each other and hanging off the dance poles. We are definitely unique and we love to have fun

Seychelles Isles Coast Guard providing peace of mind - Lacy Muircastle reporting ....

The exclusive Seychelles Isles Estate offers its residents peace of mind among other things.

Seychelles Isles being a sailing, boating and flying community located on the Linden Ocean with access to the Blake Sea require the services of The Coast Guard. The SICG exists to defend and preserve the Seychelles Isles. They protect the personal safety and security of the residents; the marine transportation system and infrastructure; the natural and economic resources; and the territorial integrity of the estate – from both internal and external threats, virtual or otherwise. They protect these interests in Seychelles Isles ports, inland waterways, along the coasts, and on open waters.

Looking for Romantic Places in Second Life?- Tea Couturier Reporting...

When you and your partner wish to go out and spend a little quality time together it can be hard finding that one place where you can be romantic with one another
Well never fear I have a small selection of venues which I feel will enable you to find a quiet spot to have fun and spend some romantic time together.

Stars Romantic Dance Club

Here you can dance under the stars just you and your partner (also with other couples) It is set on a beach but as you walk up the steps to approach the club it cannot be mistaken for a beach venue. The venue is set up lovely with a well-stocked intan full of dances. When I went there it was quiet. That is a good thing for those of you seeking to spend some quality time together in a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

Oceana Romantic Ballroom

If you’re looking for a bit more of a formal venue this is a great venue to visit. Set near the ocean the Oceana is a perfect getaway for lovers, with its formal ballroom and romantic spots. It has many intans dotted around the dance floor.

INTIMATE ROMANCE GARDEN

This is one of my favorite venues in SL and a place you and your partner should definitely visit. This venue has two places where you and your partner can go. The dance floor when you arrive or to the ballroom. I would advise formal dress once in the ballroom for both you and your partner.

Grind
Grind supposed to be the place where couples are king. A more of a modern venue where non formal clothing is needed. It is owned by the AEG Ambrosia Entertainment Management Super group. It is a venue where it is all about the music and having fun.

These are just a few places you can visit for some romantic quality time with your significant other.

If you know of other  romantic places to recommend to our readers, please use the comment box below to suggest a location and slurl!

The Green Lanterns of Second Life – The True Virtual Super Heroes- Debby Sharma Reporting...

‘In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight!
Let those who worship evil’s might,
Beware my power… Green Lantern’s light!’

The Green Lanterns have taken their name from the comic book. In Second Life they are the neighborhood watchers. They dress like the original Green Lanterns original comic characters and patrol the grid to assist residents off griefers attack and help new residents. Over the years they have filed several reports to Linden Labs. They also play a role in training the land owners about security arrangements. They offer free training and uniforms to members who wish to join the force. They have started maintaining a live help chat since June, 2014. Here is the link http://lanternalliance.com/irc.htm. No extra Hud or group space is required; no chat interface, just a log in and you are good to go. SL peacekeepers monitor this channel.
Visit their headquarters in The Unknown Country http://slurl.com/secondlife/The%20Unknown%20Country/171/152/2022

In the past few months you might have heard of a link that seem to take to the market place, but instead it has hacking the profile passwords and withdrawing large amounts. You would always hear these from group chats or notices. One such threat I heard, and would like to share with you.
On 23rd November, 2014 BlackAngel Firehawk informed of a Hack Link Warning, “In some Groups today my friend is noticing a link being passed out with the letters MY3GB in it....looks like a Market place link...DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK it will hack your account. Warning do not click on any link with the letters "MY3GB" in it, It takes over your account changes password they buy the max L$ and transfer to different account and cash out and use your account to pass same link to all friends.”
If you hear any of the sorts or any other griefer, do not forget to call the Green Lanterns. To know more about them and their work process, I contacted, the founder, Hal Jordan, Green Lantern Excelsior and I had the honor of speaking with him.

Debby Sharma: How has 2014 been in terms of security?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): We have not seen the large amount of organized group griefing that has plagued SL in the past. The gigantic problem that seems to be catching many people off guard is a phishing scheme where people get their accounts hijacked, and the hijacker sends out links to a fake SL Marketplace website where residents might carelessly enter their SL username and password. It's too bad people fall for that.

Debby Sharma: What steps are you taking and what steps should we take to prevent that?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): I have seen blog entries and group notices several times about this issue. In some cases it will be a caution to not click on links sent out from some specific person, and in other cases it will be a general "beware" notice to be careful what links you click on. I don't know if Linden Lab has sent any messages about this problem. It is difficult to educate everyone about schemes like this, because there are so many bogus urban legend notices going around that sometimes it's hard to tell which is a legitimate problem and which is just something made up to slander another resident.
I've seen notices cautioning people not to click on links or accept items from some specific resident because they will steal all your Lindens or send a virus to your PC or some other incredible claim. I think some of those are just people having a feud with another resident and trying to besmirch the other person's reputation.
If people would just take the time to look at an Internet address and make sure that it really goes to secondlife.com, many of these problems could be avoided.

Debby Sharma: I wanted to ask, do you give training to land owners, if so, is there any schedule for classes?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): I have a 2010 griefer presentation that covers parcel security. I haven't made up a schedule for doing training because people haven't been asking me to train them. The presentation is here: https://sites.google.com/site/herouniversepeacekeepers/parcel-security. I would be happy to go to people's parcels and help them with their security if they are interested. We never charge for any of our services, so it's all free.

Debby Sharma: There are levels at the landmark, each level as a specific color, what do they denote?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): In the Green Lantern comics there was a story line around 2009-2010 that created several different types of Lanterns beyond the green variety. The story was about the "emotional spectrum" associated with each type of Lantern. The Green Lanterns operate on the emotion of willpower, since their power rings can create anything their minds can imagine. The other spectrum colors operate on different emotions, rage (red), greed (orange), fear (yellow), hope (blue), compassion (indigo), and love (violet). There is also black, representing death, and white, representing life.

Debby Sharma: Do you have departments for each?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): We have the entire Lantern emotional spectrum groups represented at http://lanternalliance.com/, along with several other affiliated peacekeeper groups. We are all on the same side and generally we have the same goals, to help Second Life residents, whether it be reporting griefers, helping new residents, or assisting venue owners with security.

Debby Sharma: I was looking at the application of The Green Lanterns, what specific skills does one require to be a member?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): We have a wide range of skills that people can use everything from negotiating with griefers to helping new residents to event security. Talents in scripting, building, creating clothing and everything else associate with SL is welcome. The only requirement we have is that a new member must be 180 days old in Second Life, but we have discussed that and decided that a resident can be an associate member from day one if they want to. We just can't give them a free Green Lantern power ring until they're 180 days old.

Debby Sharma: What would be the new projects for 2015?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): We have discussed creating a welcome center for new residents, with freebies and notecards and links to helpful websites. The idea is in its infancy at the moment but we have enough members that we should be able to create something of value. We are all about helping people and this is just another way to do that.

Visit Enchanted Alice and Let the M@DNESS Begin!

Cheshire cats and rabbits in hats
A mushroom house, a scurrying mouse
Little doors and lopsided floors
pictures to take and memories to make
The Mad Hatter, awake for hours, just to find the perfect flowers
A March hare, a floating chair
Poses, roses, waterfalls
In her madness, Alice roams the halls
A thought began, all such a long time ago
Zip the line, watch the river flow
A wish here , a dream there, twisted madness everywhere
We're all mad! (or so they say)
Be amazing and have an ENCHANTED DAY!

-Penned by Angellace Havoc

Enchanted Alice is our interpretation of Lewis Carroll's (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson's) Alice in Wonderland with excerpts from The Madness Returns and American McGee all rolled into one!
All this started with a simple idea for a club theme, one imaginative builder, two years of building, rebuilding and lots of tweaking! Countless hours of research and development that has resulted in a parcel that anyone can enjoy!

Originally built for our own pleasure, it was decided that we should share this with the masses. Come fall down that Rabbit Hole, an adventure awaits! Crawl through the Looking Glass, check out our animations (some of the best on the grid), dance with friends on a mushroom, share a marshmallow with the rabbit (bring your own graham crackers n' chocolate for Smore's)! Read a book in our library, get lost in our maze, have a piece of cake with the Mad Hatter, play, relax, many photographic opportunities await, and so much more!

Enchanted Alice is an interactive parcel, we encourage role-play, dress up as your favorite character! Let your visions enhance your experience, have fun, laugh a little, share, be happy, be Enchanted! We are still a little Twisted a little Mad, but we are always Enchanted!
