Avie Poll: Discrimination, Prejudice and Racism in SL: Reality or Myth? – Glossom Resident Reporting…

Did anyone imagine twenty years ago that the existence of a virtual world would be possible?
The world has changed so much in the past decades. Science has made great strides, laws on Equality and Human Rights were created, technology has raised sharply making the world smaller and bringing people closer. Yet, much ink is still expended on Discrimination, Prejudice and Racism, three words that bring people apart. Is this multicultural virtual world called Second Life a Utopia regarding this subject?

Discrimination, prejudice and racism are concepts that merge for their cause-effect relationship. All three are grounded on stereotypes that generate social malaise. While Prejudice stems from preconceived negative judgments on people and their beliefs and behaviors, Discrimination is an unfair or unequal treatment given to a person based on prejudice related to religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, physical or mental disability, nationality, among others. Racism, on the other hand, expresses a set of theories and beliefs that establish racial and ethnic hierarchies, superior and inferior races, resulting in Intolerance, hostile feelings and attitudes.

Avie Poll: What Was Your Funniest Mistake in SL? – Glossom Resident Reporting…

“”Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes”,
-Oscar Wilde

Although Second Life is a place for socialization, experiences and new beginnings, it is also a place for mistakes. The description of mistake is very clear: errors in action. Everyday thousands of people login to SL, and when doing so they are prone to error.  The human propensity to blunder combined with an atmosphere where certain permissions or certain platform tools make it hard not to make a mess, result in embarrassing and funny stories that make Second Life a place to laugh.

Scroll from the Realm of Usk: The fine art of Role-playing. – Glossom Resident Reporting

“Discover how to visit the past and bring yesterday's stories into our lives today”
Gillian Hovell, 'Visiting the Past'

Behold the raven carrying a scroll with news from the past. By me pen, words of Nobles, Ladies, brave Knights and commoners are written: Once upon a time in a land far, far away there was a medieval settlement named Realm of Usk...

Postcard from 1920’s Berlin Project - Symphony of a Great City – Glossom Resident Reporting…

Dear friends,

The time capsule was the best virtual invention of the twenty-first century!  I took the TP airlines that brought me to the surroundings of Berlin train station, still with a foot in the present. Upon arrival there were warning signs to follow the vintage dress code before boarding so I took advantage of some lost boxes on the floor with a sign saying freebies to dress up and repack my bags with proper clothing, As I got on the train the powerful engine bended the tracks of time and took me back to the 20's. Destination: Berlin 1920’s Project. More than a trip to the past, it is an immersion in history.

Let’s talk about SLex – Glossom Resident Reporting…

There is a certain inherent eroticism around Second Life for the many graphic images that appeal to human nature: the skins and shapes that are models of perfect and sensual bodies, the provocative clothes or the lack of them and even the animations that give avatars a sexy twist.

Additionally, this platform allows us to voice with each other without having to reveal our identity, lifting eroticism into a whole new level: sexy voices; foreign accents that are appealing and lure the receiver. Thus, physical attraction is replaced for voice attraction and our powerful minds do the rest. All this affects our emotions related to sexuality.

On the other side of the scale there is the weight of moral and emotional values, either in shape of a real relationship where virtual sex is a way of cheating on the real partner or in shape of personal boundaries where virtual sex makes no sense and is rejected for the lack of physical connection or lack of objectives.

Celtic Connection Production: music with identity - Glossom Resident Reporting…

Not long ago we were celebrating St. Patrick's Day, jiggling and reeling in an Irish style to the sound of traditional Irish music.

But while outsiders listen to it as exotic and captivating music by the traditional instruments used and the “magic” sounds produced by those instruments, Celtic music transcribes many valuable stories that resume the cultural identity and heritage of the Celtic nations: souls abundant of emotions.

Geographically bordered, this music genre, covering a spectrum from pure acoustic folk to folk rock, etc, becomes global in this great little virtual world, bringing communities together to celebrate whatever occasion to the rhythm of the distinctive sound of bagpipes and the vigorous drumming. Better than an energy drink, it will make you dance until you fall off your couch.

To better understand what Celtic music and Connection Production is we have talked with the owners, Brielle Coronet and Rik Xaris, here as CCP, who also own Club Catalyst.

Stop Being Broke in Second Life – Glossom Resident Reporting…

Haven’t you ever secretly wished to come across a virtual millionaire who likes to drop some fat lindens into your account? That would solve your money troubles for a while but it is not likely to happen. Sadly lindens don’t fall from the sky and spending all day long walking down the streets of Second Life looking for some lost coins seems to be a complete waste of time. So how can we stop being broke in Second Life? When easy money is hard to get, hard working money seems to be the easiest call.

Imagine what you could have with some extra lindens: renewing the wardrobe or buying that gorgeous outfit that you have been anxious to get but can’t afford; giving yourself a complete makeover; refurnishing the house or getting a king-sized bed for that huge house that you have been sighing for… Now that I got you motivated, it's time to kick laziness away and to take action on finding a job.

Here are some tips on how to find a job and, above all, how to keep it.

Why do avatars lie? Glossom Resident Reporting…

Subject of many studies, lying on the Internet is a sensitive topic with many dark contours.  Today we will restrict this subject to our virtual home, Second Life. On a platform for socialization, written words have a paramount importance as they translate facial expressions and carry a strong emotional charge. They are the eyes that cannot be seen and the voice that cannot be heard. Therefore, the same word can have different connotations when addressed to different targets.  Although the lie is not a colorful word, it is necessary to take the context into account by going deeper into this subject and ask ourselves why we are in Second Life and how we use this platform.
