Introducing Discount Roulette- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Everyone loves a great deal when they are out and about shopping in Second Life. With the countless malls and stores across the grid it can become overwhelming trying to look for items that are both quality and match your shopping budget. Here is an interesting solution to your shopping dilemma, how about playing a little bit of Discount Roulette? It is the newest most exciting way for merchants to show off their newest products.

It works in two ways. For merchants, it allows them to put products in the machine and set the price. When customers pay the set price, they will receive a random discount anywhere from 10%, 20% or even 100% off! You may think nothing is free but why not take the chance and have some fun.

To learn more about this unique product, we sat down with creator Julya Lykin to talk more about it.

Interview with Julya Lykin

Lanai: Hi Julya, can you tell me a little bit about Shame Me Designs and what your brand has to offer Second Life residents?

Julya:  Shame Me Designs started off as a shape shop.  It had progressed into other things, dabbling in applier friendly clothing, and now Discount Roulette.  Thus far, Shame Me Designs has also been the home of the hunt Dare2Bare (next one is January 15th – February 15th).

Lanai:  You have an interesting product:  Discount Roulette.  What made you come up with the idea?

Julya:  I’ve always had a passion for marketing.  Being a designer myself, I know the price it takes to put out a freebie.  Designing anything takes time, and time is money.  This way the designers will be able to make their cost back from making the item, and give the customers an exciting reason to come frequently, to see what’s new.  It’s a true win, win!

Lanai:  The features for Discount Roulette seem simple. Can you explain how merchants can add items and set a price? Also, how many items can be put into this machine?

Julya:  Setting up the machine is quite simple.  Edit the machine, and put your price in the “Description” box.  Then click over to the “Contents” Tab, take out the “gift box,” and put your item inside.  While you’re in the “Contents” Tab, double click on the script and simply click the reset button, close everything up and your ready to rock.  One item per machine.

Lanai: Can merchants have multiple Discount Roulette Machines?
Julya:  Yes, the machine is sold as copy, no transfer.  You can set up as many as you like.  As other versions come out, there will be free updates.

Lanai: Do you have to join a group in order to receive discounts?
Julya:  No.  Anyone can play.  It is set up to be completely random.

Lanai: Where can merchants purchase this system?

Julya:  There are two different ways you can purchase the machine.  In-world you can purchase it at Shame Me Designs.  There is a machine set out with an item inside.  Or if you prefer, you can also purchase it on Marketplace.  It is available at both locations for L$350.

Lanai: With products like Discount Roulette available to shoppers, I think it makes shopping a bit more fun. Will you be coming up with other ways to bring merchants and customers together?

Yes, there is a group made called Discount Roulette, in which customers can find all the newest locations and designers can inform customers of their new items.  Once a week there will be an updated list posted in notices of stores with slurls attached for your convenience.  The Discount Roulette blog is now up and running, where the list will be maintained.  Another feature will be designer items blogged.  We have a few more tricks up our sleeves for the future =).

Spotlight on TRESOR COUTURE; the Re-invention of Affordable Elegance for the Fashion Diva in Second life on August 16 ©- Orchids Reporting…

“The phoenix must burn to emerge.”
-       Janet Fitch(White Oleander)
The word "couture" immediately conjures up the image of a highly exclusive designer and clientele whose capacity for creation is considered highly unique and off the beaten track. Couture fashion in the real world and in second life to a great extent comes at an interesting decline in the pocket contents. Few people can really afford clothing at such prices. Fashion and taste is not an exclusive to any group. A fashionista may be lurking in the heart of that waitress making ends meet. SL is fantastic in its concept that anyone can be the diva which their heart sees for a fraction of the cost of real life. Here at Tresor Couture their main goal is to make high end quality fashion at affordable prices for the second life of the fashion diva. They have been here a long time and now it’s a time for re-invention.

To Bare or not to Bare- Thoughts & A Peek at The Dare2Bare Hunt in SL©- August 1- August 31st- Orchids Zenovka Reports…

Nudity is said to be wrong. What embarrasses us about being nude? Why has nudity has become a perverted concept in a most non-sexy way?

The body has become taboo. We've got so many hang-ups with nudity; Baby photos are getting censored.  Cultural conditioning created the idea that nudity / nudism is sin. The media made nudity a perverted concept. A gown can be classy or indecent in the hands of a wearer.

Classy is being able to wear the skimpiest outfit you have in your closet but you carry it like a lady/gentleman.
Trashy is wearing whatever you find in  the closet , spreading your legs open and sitting waiting for whatever comes your way; drinking from a bottle.

A peek into the Real Life of an Avatar- Orchids Zenovka Reporting…

The duality of existence is seen when we try to “escape” reality, creating anonymous virtual – selves giving us the freedom to unleash ourselves from self and society determined roles, and experience the world afresh. Yet, the “real” us sits behind a keyboard and types via our avis, thoughts in our “real mind. The thoughts we think about our own-selves, we project to the world. Unknowingly, we come to understand our First lives better. Second  Life does not seem  less “real” than a phone call. Experiences we acquire online be it good or bad, spill over and change our lives in the real world, often without our awareness. How can this be translated to improving the “real” me is the question. Because once the computer is shut down, that is what I have to face....

Today we have the "Real Deal"; the combo SL+RL fighter and the anarchist. Yet at the same time the softie who wouldn't hurt a dog's tail. This self described Jessica Rabbit is "Julya Lykin". This is the story of one Avi on SL who has shown me the true meaning of fighting to live for the right reasons. She has fought through heart disease and 6 surgeries and still believed enough in the goodness of this world to find her love in SL and now married to him over a year. She is certainly not the only one. There are wonderful people in SL and RL who fight to live each single day. This is a representation of all of you fighters out there; and also for those, looking for a reason to live.

And suddenly, out of the blue, SL makes sense....

Total Anarchy Across Second Life-Orchids Zenovka Reporting...

The word "Anarchy" comes from the ancient Greek anarchia, meaning "absence of a leader", "without rulers". There is anarchy now in second life and it comes in the form of  Total Anarchy with its *disclaimer*

Total Anarchy is not your mamma's discount room.  We here @ Total Anarchy can-not wait to create chaos across SL.  Total Anarchy is a discount room you've never seen before.  It is DEFINITELY not for the weak @ heart.  If you tend to get butt hurt this isn't for you.  We are direct, truthful and completely non-politically correct.   You have been WARNED!  We will be bringing you the darker side of SL.  Things for: Goth, Cyberpunk, Tank Girl, Comic, Punk, Werewolf, Vampire, Alternative, Metal, Rockstar, & Biker. Anything chaotic.”

The creations promise to be interesting and are a brainchild of a mix of Julya Lykin, who is the outgoing “tomboy, sexpot with a dash of gothic” and Pixy Snook who is the 'bubble Goth cosmo freak'. It is rare to find a combination like that so varied and yet “twin –like” as Julya says so herself. The website is worth checking out and created with a lot of innovative thought and dark humor. I had a chance to find out more before it opens including the Flickr contest and take a sneak-peek at the discount room with a difference. Take it with a pinch of humour and unleash your rebelliously humourous side because that’s what it takes to fit into “total anarchy”.
