Terry's Bloch Party March 20th

Join us on Saturday, March 20th beginning at 12-noon SLT for the first EVER Terry's Bloch Party! Four fun-filled hours of live music from some of the hottest entertainers on the grid!

Starting it all off at 12pm SLT is a special LIVE debut performance from Shagpile Spyker, AKA Jason Vare, an independent singer-songwriter from Bedlington, a small town north of Newcastle in Northumberland UK. He was particularly influenced by artists such as Bob Dylan; The Beatles; Neil Young and many more. In more recent times Shaggy has been drawn to the sound of Joe Purdy, Ray Lamontagne, James Morrison, Paulo Nutini, and upcoming artists like Paul Liddell.

As a songwriter, Shaggy draws inspiration from the trials of life, and from the lives of those around him. These inspirations translate into music that is smooth and sincere. He has a creativity that detours from the ordinary!! Lyrically this music takes you to wherever you want to be and is full of emotion.

Following Shaggy at 1pm SLT, Terry's is proud to welcome spiritLed back for a special LIVE performance on our outdoor stage! spiritLed is not new to SL but relatively new to performing live music around the grid. Coming to you from the East Coast, spiritLed has been playing the guitar since his 20's and is now learning and enjoying playing the keyboard.

You will immediately fall in love with spiritLed's covers of songs from artists like Coldplay, Harry Styles, Train, The Beatles, and more. Join us and hear why he is beloved by fellow musicians around the grid.

Next up at 2pm SLT, get ready for another magnificent performance from Skye Galaxy!  Taking a variety of different songs and artists, Skye translates each tune and places them gently beside a soothing, sensual line of vocal and simplistic piano arrangements. Nineteen years ago, he was brought into this world by his mother, whom resided in Smolensk (Смоленск), Russia and a father who moved to the States from Berlin. From the first moments of which he could mutter a sound, singing had become nothing short of a passion.

His influences include the vocals and production talents of Imogen Heap, the emotion often found in the likes of Coldplay, Keane, and Death Cab for Cutie, and in the other artists that continue to fill his favorites list; Above & Beyond, Frou Frou, Rufus Wainwright, Kate Havnevik, Yann Tiersen, and many more.

Skye is a musician, performer, and vocalist professionally in his first life, but likes to keep his two lives well apart. He joined Second Life in order to pursue the feeling of growth in his abilities, once more, and those numerous chains of events leading to one better opportunity to the next until you are stumbling for the top.

Last but certainly not At least, at 3pm SLT Terry's is proud to welcome back THE FUNKALICIOUS ONE, Dexter Moore, as he performs LIVE on our outdoor stage!! He is a Troubadour kind of guy who plays nylon string acoustic guitar like no-one else.

Dexter weaves romantic lyrics and melodies around his guitar grooves with a cool mix of soul, funk, Latin and jazz.

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

Unlucky St. Patrick’s Day- Interview with Larry the Leprechaun- Lanai Jarrico Reporting..

BACK STORY:

Mascot series. We met up with Larry, after an Avatar Anonymous meeting. He was kicked out for trying to attack several of the members. He’s dating a fairy stripper he met at a club named Mercedes.  Her crib gets robbed of all of Larry’s gold and now Larry is trying to find out who did it - only a handful of mascots knew about it. The Easter Bunny and Uncle Sam are suspects. Cupid couldn't have done it, he’s too busy trying to hook up with the CEO of SLE. Santa be on his own shit and Baby New year ain’t got time for that.

EPISODE 1- Unlucky St. Patrick’s Day- Interview with Larry the Leprechaun

Here’s something that will blow your mind…Did you know St. Patrick was actually kidnapped as a teen from Roman Britain and taken to Ireland as a slave. He wasn’t actually Irish but throughout his life until his death on March 17th, 461, he established churches, schools, and monasteries. Through the centuries there have been many legends surrounding St. Patrick. One of the most common is the legends he drove all the snakes out of Ireland and used a shamrock to explain the trinity.

St. Patrick’s day originated as a day of religious services and feasts. This holiday was brought to the United States by immigrants where it is a celebration of all things Irish, including annual parades. Today, St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday that is celebrated by many around the world, not just by the Irish culture. It has turned into an annual tradition for observers to eat, drink, wear green, and party with friends and family.

In Second Life it is a different story…

We aren’t sure how Leprechauns and the idea of a pot of gold, getting lucky and even Lucky Charms; a children's cereal became a thing on St. Patrick’s Day, but in Second Life at an AA Meeting I came across Larry the Leprechaun and before I can even Introduce myself and start sharing my SL grievances with my peers, he got slapped hard by the Easter Bunny in front of everyone.

(At an Avatar Anonymous meeting where a commotion erupts between Larry and the Easter Bunny)

Earl The Easter Bunny: *SLAP* Like Sweet Brown said… “Ain’t nobody got time for that!”

The Spirit of Joan Rivers: Well shit! Get a hotel room for that.

Lanai: Woahhh What’s going on here?

Earl The Easter Bunny: This clown right here had it coming.  I’m only in this stupid meeting due to a court order but I’m no criminal!

Lanai: Well keep your paws to yourself, that was rude. So Larry,  Can I talk to you? *helps him off the ground after witnessing an attack from a fellow mascot.*

Larry the Leprechaun: *straightening out his jacket and dusts himself off as he stands back up to his feet and looks over* Who are you and how did you know my name?

Lanai: Hi my name is Lanai and I'm a reporter for SLE and “Larry”  is on your name tag?.... Me and everyone else couldn’t help but notice that slap you just received from the Easter Bunny. So why are you arguing with your peers at an AA Meeting?  Aren't you participating in these meetings to improve your self esteem and character as an upstanding Second Life avatar? Aside from that, it’s St. Patrick’s Day! Shouldn’t you be out protecting your pot of gold or something?

Larry the Lep: *looks down at his name tag and cusses ripping it off and tossing it on the ground* A reporter? That is all I need right now, no, I need the police! Someone stole my pot of gold from my girlfriend Mercedes’s house and I need to find it! I know it had to be one of these muppets in there. I will find out who did it! Damn it.

Lanai: Calm down... So when was the last time you saw Mercedes and your pot of gold?

Larry the Lep:* looks like a two-year-old throwing a tantrum as he jumps up and down*

Calm down?!? Calm Down? That is me gold we are talking about lassy, me GOLD! The gold was at her place in her bedroom closet on Monday, I remember seeing the most beautiful glow coming from underneath the door, it was magnificent. I’m not sure why she isn’t at the meeting…

Bernie: It ain’t my business.

The spirit of Joan Rivers: Who gives a sh*t? F you and you , and him too.

Lanai: Joan… Be nice to your peers this meeting is supposed to empower.

Santa: Ho! Ho! Ho! Where’s the peppermint creamer?

Spirit of Joan Rivers: Oh Shut up Nick!

Lanai: There is a lot of pent up energy in this meeting today. We may have to switch to lavender tea… Look Larry, something sounds amiss. Do you know if Mercedes had anyone over in the past couple of days or did you tell anyone else about your stashed loot?

Bernie: Don’t mind me. I’m just chillin…

Spirit of Joan Rivers: F*ck off.

Larry the Lep: Bernie why are you even here?  Anyways…. What! My Mercedes?!?! She wouldn’t have anyone else over, she loves me, oh my lovely lassy, she is one for the pages of my heart I say.. NO she wouldn’t have anyone else over or tell anyone about me gold!

Bernie: Rude.

Lanai: Leave Bernie alone! This meeting is open to anyone going through viral meming and virtual world issues!  Mercedes. Her name sounds familiar….Wait.. Isn’t she that tooth fairy who got busted with glitter dust a year ago? The one that works at “The Burnt Mushroom” Strip Club on the east side? If that’s the one… it sounds like Mercedes was a gold digger and had a serious addiction. Anyways. I remember a conversation with Cupid a few months back. He mentioned she can’t be trusted. I think he was hittin’ that but who am I to gossip…

Larry the Lep: HEY! She was holding that for a friend, she doesn’t do glitter dust….anymore.. But anyway it doesn’t matter where she works, she is just putting herself through college for her Cupcake Decorating degree, she is going to make something of herself! As for Cupid, he only WISHES he could tap that! Mercedes has standards you know.

Lanai: I see.  That's what the unicorn said…. She is still workin the pole.  Fine, maybe we are talking about different fairies… So anyways, Larry… Can I call you that? It’s St. Patrick’s day and I wanted to educate our readers on how you came about being the holiday mascot.

The Unicorn: Don’t hate the player. Hate the game.

Larry the Lep: St Patty this St Patty that! F him and F all that. Can’t you see we are in a crisis here lassy! I’m missing me pot of gold! You promise to help me find me pot of gold, I will give your readers the education of our holiday you want.

Lanai: OK fine stop being hostile geez. I will help you find your pot of gold.  I’m not even sure where to start but Cupid and the Easter Bunny seem suspish. If the rumors are true, Cupid would know what Mercedes’s bedroom looks like...but the way I saw you get dropped by the Easter Bunny, maybe he has your gold. Rumor around the grid is, he is 1,000,000L behind on his child support. You know how rabbits have kids...

Spirit of Joan Rivers: MMhmmm

Earl the Easter Bunny: Umm I’m sitting right here.

Bernie: Rude.

Uncle Sam: *whispers to Santa* This is getting good.

Larry the Lep: Don’t be a gowl, the damn bunny got a lucky shot when I was trying to buckle my boots. As for Cupid, knowing Mercedes' room, he wishes, maybe only the pics that I shared umm I mean the description of how nice the room is, that is the only way he would know. But both of them are sex-crazed they wouldn’t be after me pot, Well yes, maybe the bunny cause he hits them and leaves them with many kids but I am thinking it is the Tooth Fairy, to be honest, he was always a little jealous of Mercedes and me since she dumped him for a real Leppy.

Earl the Easter Bunny: Don’t catch another slap Larry.

Lanai: *stares at the Easter Bunny*  You have a good point there Larry. The tooth fairy does seem like a shady individual. What grown-ass man named Tammy wears a pink tutu and wings? Sounds like a creep to me.  He couldn't be here today because I heard he’s locked up for unpaid parking tickets.

Larry the Lep: Creepy you are right, I mean this man goes into children’s rooms in the middle of the night to steal TEETH! I mean come on, and how does he pay for those teeth? Maybe with fencing stolen GOLD huh??!?!

Lanai: Let me investigate. *pulls out her black book* We might have a story here.

After multiple attempts to contact Cupid, he could not be reached.

Earl the Easter Bunny:  “Larry is a raging alcoholic who is very forgetful. I bet he spent all his gold at the Blarney Stone Pub. We all know how they like to protect their own no matter who they step on. I was defending myself at the meeting because he was accusing me and everyone else. Maybe you should ask Uncle Sam.”

Uncle Sam: Oh noooo see that sign over there? It says No Drama Zone!  Don’t even include me in this mess I have a whole economy and a pandemic of my own to worry about. I don’t know him, Mercedes, or anyone else this little fool hangs out with so remove me from your suspect list. I come to Avatar Anonymous meetings to help with my public speaking skills. Maybe you should ask Santa, he seems to know who's been naughty or nice.

Santa: Uncle Sam is always trying to throw someone under the sleigh… According to my records, Sam was inciting a riot at The Linden Labs Headquarters on that day and all of the accused have alibis that check out except for one. Cupid was at a chest wax appointment during the hours in question. The Easter Bunny was in court with all his baby mommas and Mercedes was actually giving a lap dance to Orion Baral from your newspaper on that day and they went back to her place.

Lanai: Oh really now? So are you saying maybe SLE is somehow involved? This just got really interesting… Soooo Orion what do you know about the missing gold?

Orion Baral: First off, it wasn’t filmed pictured, or sketch drawn, I didn’t do it. You know me better than this, I wouldn't go to a low strip club. I am very loyal and wouldn’t hurt SLE’s reputation being seen there. As for this Mercedes girl, I met her once at a Business Seminar only, I didn’t go anywhere with her, I said hi and politely complimented she had nice wings, that was all.

Lanai: Hmmm. I do recall you going on a recent shopping spree a couple of days ago… OK Meeting is over!

Well, folks there you have it, we are just reporters, we are not detectives. We ask you the good people of SL to help us find who stole Larry’s pot of gold.  Please leave your comments below and help us find the culprit! We rely on you, the people.

Max Kleene - A Triple Threat on the SL Music Scene - Orion Baral Reporting

Streaming from Niagara Falls, Maximillion Kleene brings a vast repertoire of popular music to Second Life.
Max started his music career with formal study of piano at the Royal Conservatory but quickly realized that it was the guitar guys who got the chicks. By 19, he was seriously immersed to the very center of his musical soul in AC/DC and from there branched out to experiment with sounds that range from Pearl Jam to Foo Fighters, The Beatles to Jason Mraz.

Max brings high energy and a vast repertoire of quirky, classic, and current covers to Second Life. Oozing charisma and charm, he provides his fans with an hour of musical magic.

Orion Baral (OB): Thanks for taking the time to give me this interview Max. I will start out with a few simple questions to get the ball rolling. Where are you from and how did you find Second Life?

Max Kleene:  I'm an in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.  I found Second Life when I read an article in the August 2006 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine.  The story was about Second Life and about how it was a fun virtual world.  There was mention of live music, but I decided to log on and explore.  A few weeks in, I found a live music event and was hooked.

OB: Well we are glad you read that mag and you found SL. You have been in Second Life for a long time, I remember meeting you and going to your shows back in 2008-2010. So tell the readers how has it been performing for so long in Second Life?

Max Kleene:  It's been awesome.  I enjoy my time performing, developing, and learning about music, songs, all of it.  The friends I've made, the jams I've been lucky to be a part of.

OB: So tell the readers what got you into music? A musical family? Friends? Or just the love and desire to be on stage ogled by women while you swoon them while on stage?

Max Kleene:  I learned music from a young age and had formal lessons on piano.  A family of singers, not so music musicians.  I started to get serious with music and performing when I was learning and progressing quickly on guitar through my late teens and early 20's.  I just kept going until I was in bands and playing the bar circuit.

OB: You have a very distinct voice, is there any artist that you believe you sound like, or maybe you believe they sound like you? :)

Max Kleene:  I've been told that I sound similar to Paul Simon and I agree.  I can't think of any other artists that I think I "sound" like.

OB: Ok so next concert I go to I am requesting Call me Al damn it :) Now,  I have a two-part question now. Might not be the most comfortable questions because it will speak on your own limitations and likes and not likes, but who said this would be easy right? So, with your vocal range, what genre do you like and feel comfortable in. And the second part of the question is what genre do you like to stay away from either it be lack of appreciation for it or just something that you vocally can’t get into?

Max Kleene:  I think I'm comfortable in the pop/rock genre.  I'm not an aggressive singer, so I tend to avoid harder rock although I love hard rock.  I think I'm a tenor voice, but I do like taking on the challenge of really developing different singing styles out of my comfort zone.

OB: As we stated earlier you have performed for years and years and I do remember you doing a lot of Dual Streaming with other performers. Which performers do you like to dual-stream with and why?

Max Kleene:   All of them ;)  Making music with other people.  A pleasure that needs no explaining.

OB: All of them? Looks like you will be performing dual-streams a lot then. :) So Max you have done a lot of performances with artists in Second Life. But in meet-ups in real life,  is that something you enjoy doing?  A lot of people like the anonymity that the computer gives. Is that something you thought of before starting to go to the meet-ups to perform?

Max Kleene: Yes, the meetups are fun.  It's great to hang out for a weekend and jam and talk and have a fun time.  Everybody comes with open hearts and just an overall positive vibe that energizes me.

OB: Well once this pandemic is over and travel restrictions are removed it will be a great time to throw one hell of a jam session. There are a lot of performers in Second Life. What advice would you give those who would like to build a following like yours as well as to those just starting out on the Second Life Music scene? And what was the best advice you were given when you first started performing in SL?

Max Kleene:  My best advice is simple and that is to make it fun.  Go and listen to lots of different performers so you see and hear and discover the whole scene.  Sing songs you love, take on challenging songs to develop your performing.  The best advice I was given when I first started performing in SL was to do a shot before the show ;)

OB: Thanks again, Max. Now for the easiest question of the interview, Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Max Kleene:   I love you SL LIVE MUSIC!! :)

Alright folks, there you have Max Kleene, one of the friendliest (no not just cause he is Canadian) people I have known for years and a great performer. You need to check him out, you will love his shows.

Caio,
Orion

March 17th - Shamrock Defibrillator & Erika Ordinary DEBUT LIVE at Terry's St Patrick's Day Party

Feeling a bit down on your luck lately? Celebrate St Patrick's Day this Wednesday, March 17 starting at 6PM SLT with a special live music double feature, as Terry's is proud to welcome Shamrock Defibrillator and Erika Ordinary for what's sure to be a spectacular debut performance!

Kicking things off at 6pm SLT will be Shamrock Defibrillator, an exciting recent addition to the Second Life entertainment scene, playing original music in a virtual world.  Imagine Bill Withers heading over to Abbey Road in a Cadillac to pick up Ben Harper so they can catch the tail end of THE Reverend Al Green's sermon...this fantastic performer is definitely not your ordinary Shamrock!

Next up at 7pm SLT, you won't want to miss the lovely and talented Erika Ordinary, as she performs her debut on the Terry's stage! Erika is an Austin, Texas based singer-songwriter who performs originals and a wide range of covers by artists such as: Nina Simone, Peggy Lee, Leadbelly, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Patty Griffin (another Austinite!) Brandi Carlisle, Jolie Holland, Jefferson Airplane, David Bowie, The Flaming Lips, Porno for Pyros, Pixies, Radiohead, Regina Spektor, Feist, Florence and the Machine, Lisa Loeb, Ingrid Michaelson, and more!

Erika has a wonderfully expressive voice that can be powerful but also is pleasantly delicate and understated. She brings life to the songs she selects and a window to her soul in songs of her own. She plays several instruments, but primarily sticks with guitar and ukulele. She especially loves the juxtaposition of darker themed songs played on such a bright, happy instrument as the ukulele. Ask her to play In The Pines by Leadbelly or Henry Lee by Nick Cave, and you'll get the idea.

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

Disney Themed Mini Golf - Stacey Cardalines Reporting

Golf is a fun game. It's also a rich man's game, which means that a lot of regular people can't play it. That's why the gods made Mini-Golf.

There's no need for clubs and country club memberships with Mini-Golf. You can show up dressed like you were about to go to Wal-Mart. You really only need one club, a putter, and they give that to you. The whole course takes up about the same amount of physical space as a CVS. There are no membership fees, you pay as you go.

To make up for the lack of rolling greens, they use props. Tiger Woods may be able to drive the ball 300 yards and you can't... but can Tiger gets it through the windmill blades any better than you? Is Tiger good at golfing on carpet? Can Tiger come to terms with golfing through a lighthouse? I mean healthy Tiger, not car-crash Tiger or wife-and-mistress Tiger.

Mini-Golf exists on SL. It may actually be preferable to regular golf, as all of mini golf is a short game, putting-type activity. SL, while wonderful, still has some graphical limitations that rear their ugly heads when movement-based activity occurs. You eliminate a lot of that with golf at short range, and that favors mini golf.

What could make mini-golf better? Disney characters!

I stumbled on to Cinderella's Castle while hunting around. It is a Disney-themed park. I haven't been down to Florida in a spell, but it looked similar to what I remember. The castle dominates the place, but we can focus on the Disney stuff later. We're here to golf. Cinderella has her own 12 hole mini-golf course.

Each hole on the golf course has a Disney theme, so you are golfing around Donald Duck, the Incredibles, Tinkerbelle, and Mickey Mouse. Although they are kid-friendly protagonists in the movies, Mickey and the gang are nefarious Obstacles to a golfer. I don't ever recall having a desire to curse at Pluto before, but I called him things that would make Dolemite blush today when he got in the way of my otherwise perfect putt.

Why does Goofy, who is a dog, wear pants and walk on two legs... while Pluto, who is also a dog, goes nude and walks on all fours? Thank God, I don't have to answer that one, we'd have to thaw out Uncle Walt himself.

There are 12 holes. I shot 3 rounds. I got a 64 my first time, which wouldn't be bad on 18 holes, but is terrible on a 12 hole course where the hole is 10 feet from the tee and you only have to hit it through Snow White's feet. My first round was highlighted by a 16 on the par-4 Minnie Mouse hole, which had water hazards that I failed to negotiate well.

I banged out a 50 on my second round, and a Kim Jong-un style 34 on my final pass. I hit five aces.

The golf is easy enough to learn. You click on a hole to set up. It gives you a club. You aim it with the arrow keys and control the strength/release of your swing with the mouse. Play one round for fun before returning to Hole 1, getting a scorecard and golfing it for real.

This sim is aimed somewhat at children, and most of it is a mall, albeit a Disney-themed one. If you're into Disney, you'll love it. If you go as a couple and your BF tires of looking at Princess dresses, send him off to golf while you do what has to be done in the various stores.

Men are dead weight when shopping... which also why God made golf.

DID YOU SET YOUR CLOCK BACK FOR DAYLIGHT SAVINGS? See the Chart for your time and date.

This is a reminder that it is time to turn your clocks back 1 hour. Yay...

To many, daylight savings time is confusing and a hassle unless it is summer and we get an extra hour of sunlight.  During Winter months, daylight savings seems a bit depressing as the days seem to feel shorter. Many wonder what the real purpose is. Do we really save time and energy or is it more of an inconvenience sending our children off to school while it is still a bit dark outside? Is it even necessary to throw us all off by an hour?  This practice has been used for over 100 years, originating in Germany on April 30, 1916. But even way before that in Ancient times, civilizations would adjust their daily schedules according to the sun's schedule. In an effort to support the World War 1 efforts, President Woodrow Wilson signed DLS into law in the United States in 1918. It was repealed and than re-implemented year round in 1942. Today daylight savings is used in over 70 countries and confuses over a billion people ever year.

LIVE at Terry's Sunday Showcase Seli Blackmore & Amberle Janniah on March 14th 2020

Join us on Sunday, March 14th beginning at 2pm SLT for Terry's Sunday Showcase, sponsored by the SL Enquirer! This week's featured artist is the lovely Seli Blackmore!!  Performing her debut at Terry's, Seli is a singer/songwriter that continues to impress with her silky smooth voice, pure sweet tone, and vivacious personality that will have you humming to yourself with a big smile on your face.  She not only performs original songs but covers greats like Fleetwood Mac, Billie Holiday, The Dixie Chicks and even some Aerosmith!

Not only is Seli an accomplished singer/songwriter, her voiceover work for radio and television is heard on a regular basis throughout the Nordic region.

Seli was born in the USA but calls Sweden home.  She's currently involved in a number of projects in addition to her own debut solo album. After over a decade in SL, she combines the two things she loves: gaming and music. Her distinctive voice makes her a "must-hear performer" and you won't regret spending your time listening to her mesmerizing music.

Also debuting this week at 3pm SLT is Amberle Janniah! A singer/songwriter/musician from the Philippines, Amberle grew up with several influences that are rooted deep within: her family's deep ties to structured church music combined with her mom's pop/power ballad techniques and her dad's more playful rock/jazz approach to performances.

Amberle knew from early on that music was one of the things that would always make sense, so each and every melody sung from her formative years to the present, would impact her song choices that span from the 80's to the present (and a few handpicked original songs thrown in the mix). Intent on initially focusing on acoustic performances, she has added tracks to her arsenal, choosing to lean into a wider array of sounds and styles to convey a wider range of emotions and topics.

With her ever-growing enthusiasm for guitar, vocals and deft arrangements, Amberle will give you a deeper sense of a raw, stripped down musical experience.

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

Brunel Hall- The oldest continually running hotel and the last of the grand dining restaurants

The oldest continually running hotel, and the last of the grand dining restaurants on the grid has just finished a major overhaul of the restaurant and a complete rework of the bar in the basement.  The food menus have been overhauled as well with more than 190 food items in the direct rezzer on the tables with new food items being added roughly every month.  This is a NON roleplay set restaurant, which means couples will have peace and quiet to just sit in, chat and take in the surroundings of an era of sheer decadence.  Once you have finished looking around the hall, you can then spend a few days (or more) simply exploring the 12 regions that make up The City State of New Babbage.

About Brunel Hall:  Brunel Hall Hotel has been part of the landscape of the 12 region steampunk City State of New Babbage for more than a decade.  Opened during the peak of the old Grand Dining days, Brunel Hall done something different, it didn’t charge an arm and a leg for couples to sit and look at prim (and now mesh) food sitting on a table.  Brunel Hall, and the City State of New Babbage are both non RP enforced, so modern clothing is fine to wear when exploring.

Holly Giles an angels voice from down under - Orion Baral Reporting

She states "Do not LABEL me as a country singer just because I love country best. Only about 1/4 of my songlist is country." A singer from Australia that has a uniquely vocal range and sings a lot of other things besides country. Sl Enquirer was able to sit down with Holly and have some fun talking to this great person.

Orion Baral (OB): Hi there Holly, thanks for sitting down with me. I will start this interview off with an easy question. So tell the readers how did you discover Second Life and get involved in the music scene?

Holly Giles: I was part of another online community called IMVU, and I had heard about SL from there. I tried a few times over the years with a few different accounts and could never figure out how to use SL until a few years ago when suddenly it all fell into place. I started a Music venue in Feb 2018 with a friend, hiring DJs. My friend then introduced me to Live Music by taking me to a Downunder show. I was hooked from then on. I canceled all DJs at my venue and filled my line up with Live Performers, only finally working up the courage to perform there myself 7 months later. I haven't looked back and would be LOST without the Live Music Community here in SL.

OB: Well, I and the readers are glad you did come to check out Second Life. So tell me your voice can be spread out over many genres which you do all very well I might add. But tell me what is your favorite genre and more importantly, what is your “in the shower belting out like no one is around”, song?

Holly Giles: I love all genres and don't really HAVE a favourite, but I was born and raised on country music, listening to everyone from Dolly Parton through to Merle Haggard, Charley Pride, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, etc. Also, my mum was a lead singer in a country band when I was very young and my grandfather also performed at festivals till the day he died. Country is in my blood you could say lol. I gotta say that the one song I always seem to find myself belting out in the shower is 'Help Me Make It Through The Night'.

OB: Well a little Kris Kristoferson never hurt anyone I guess :) So, do you write your own music, or just do covers?

Holly Giles: I only do covers. I think that if I knew HOW to write songs and if I gave myself a chance to, I could probably write some good ones, but I think I'll just leave it to the professionals hehe

OB: Well there you go a goal to learn to write songs :) Do you play any musical instruments?  If not, is there one that you would love to learn?

Holly Giles: I have dabbled in a few instruments through the years; Piano, Flute, Guitar, (not to mention the Recorder in my early years lol). I never really stuck with any of them, although Piano seemed to be the one that I picked up the easiest. I do own 3 guitars (my mum keeps buying them for me for birthdays O.o) and I keep picking them up and trying to teach myself, but my fingers always hurt too much within the first half hour and I just put it down, because I'm a sook and I hate pain lol. I have been thinking recently of trying the piano again though.

OB: Oh I think we all learned the recorder when we were young. Tell the readers if you can e what does music mean to you personally?

Holly Giles: Music is everything to me. It's an expression of your greatest joys, your deepest losses, your happiest energies. I can't think of a single time in my life when music has failed to bring me comfort and truth.

OB: That is very true, a lot of people I have interviewed relate to music on such a personal emotional level I think it is great to hear that. Which artist most inspires you from SL and RL and why?

Holly Giles: In SL I have to say my partner Winter (and no, it's not biased talking lol). He brings such joy and energy to his shows, such love and caring for his fans and he inspires me to want to do better in my own shows. In RL, I think there are just way too many greats out there to be able to pick just one, so I won't.

OB: Oh sure no biased there :) But seriously I can see what you mean, we have always loved his shows and always have a great time. So tell us what advice did someone in the music field give you that still resonates with you to this day? What advice would you give others?

Holly Giles: "Just Be Yourself". I have always been incredible socially awkward and found it stressful to speak during my shows. Singing was easy, but trying to think of something to say between songs was terrifying. I would stammer, stutter, and then apologize for saying things that were not 'professional', and apologize for talking jibberish and letting out way too much nervous rambling. The more I rambled the more nervous I got. Then one day someone told me, I honestly can't remember who, to just be myself. To talk jibberish, and be clumsy and just stop stressing so much about being liked; because I am LOVED, and that people find my rambling endearing and personable. Since then, I ramble so much that my manager (BAD Management) has a 'Shut Up and Sing' gesture on standby during my shows, and he uses it a lot, hahaha. I would give the same advice.

OB: I wonder how many other people would love that gesture to get some people to stop talking Heh. I know it takes a lot of courage to perform in front of an audience. What's your process for dealing with performance anxiety, if you get it before a show?

Holly Giles: Honestly, for 80% of my shows, I don't get nervous anymore. The only times I do are when I'm tired and just KNOW I'm going to be boring and ramble on drolly instead of with high energy lol. I just KNOW it will be a bad show so I get nervous about it. I also get nervous before a debut show at a new venue, or when I'm dual streaming. I find the only way to 'deal' with it is to just 'Shut Up and Sing' because after a few songs the nerves just go away.

OB: Holly it has been a pleasure thank you very much for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down with me. Before we leave is there anything else you would like our readers to know, your shows, how they can book you?

Holly Giles: For Bookings, I am currently only available to sing between 4pm SLT to 7am SLT. (I'm Aussie, so my timezone sucks)
