The Story of St. Patrick’s Day and How it is Celebrated Today- Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

St Patrick’s Day is an Irish Holiday celebrating the patron saint, Apostle of Ireland and missionary among the Celtic pagans. St. Patrick is said to be responsible for chasing all of the snakes out of Ireland.  According to studies, there were probably no snakes on the island in the first place because it was separated from the continent at the end of the last ice age. The idea that St. Patrick drove the serpents out of Ireland is symbolic in reference to putting an end to Pagan practices by introducing Christianity.

He wasn’t the first to bring Christianity to Ireland but he is credited for abolishing Pagan rites when he encountered the Druids and converted the warrior chiefs and Princes. He also baptized thousands of followers in Holy wells.

The date March 17th marks St. Patrick's death in 460 A.D.

You may be wondering how the shamrock became such an iconic part of St. Patrick’s day. Well, as the story goes, Saint Patrick used it as a way to explain the holy trinity to the Pagans.

Today, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated with shamrocks as the iconic symbol. The colors green and gold are associated with this holiday and symbolize good luck. In Irish faerie folklore, the Leprechaun is also a popular figure associated with St. Patrick’s Day.  They are described as devious and smart little creatures and if you catch one you are considered the luckiest person alive. It is said that every Leprechaun has a pot of gold buried deep within the Irish countryside and if you catch one the gold is your prize. But they can bring you more trouble than it is worth.

Irish Immigrants are responsible for bringing St. Patrick’s Day to the US where it was first publicly celebrated in Boston, Massachusetts in 1737. In 1756, it was first celebrated in New York City at the Crown and Thistle Tavern. Today it is widely celebrated in the United States by both Irish and Non-Irish people and is associated with wearing green, parties, parades, pub crawls and drinking alcohol… lots of it. In Second Life it is observed with decorations, hunts and parties.

If you Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, drink responsible, be safe, have fun and good luck with that hangover!

AVIE POLL: WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST ISSUES FOR AVIES IN SL?- Sunny Love Holiday Reporting…

The virtual world of Second life is loved and revered by many. It provides an escape from the everyday hustle and bustle of real life. Allowing people to be free to be themselves, explore fantasies, or to become their alter ego. With something that brings so much joy, there are always issues one much endures to enjoy such wonderful things. I decided to poll avies from all walks of life to see what people thought were the most troubling issues that plagues avies across the grid, and what they think would be the best possible solution to the problem.

Spirit Wingtips, owner of Espiritu Photography

SLE: What do you think are the Biggest Issues for Avies in SL?

Spirit Wingtips:  LAG the age old problem of lag and the HUGELY disproportionate LACK of men’s clothing and items as compared to women’s. Us men like to shop and like to have choices too. Designers need to stop being lazy and bias. Support us men !

SLE: What do you think would be a proper solution to these problems?

Spirit Wingtips:  Linden Labs and the entire SL community getting up and proactively doing something to help combat the issue of lag.  Also, Incorporate Education programs so people know the REAL cause of LAG and what to do about it. That would be a start.
As for designers in SL, they need to realize that us men want and need options as well. we are more than jeans and a tee shirt, we want QUALITY items and well designed items as well and not  half hearted effort prefabs "just to say we carry men’s items". This is not to say all designers do this but if you teleport around to most events and shops they have 90% women’s clothing.
Oriana Robertson, Interior Blogger extraordinaire

SLE: What do you think are the Biggest Issues for Avies in SL?

Oriana Robertson: The biggest issues that I believe are facing Second Life are the lack of positive interactive activities. Granted, the major draw to second life (or as it was promoted in the beginning) is that everything that exist in-world is created by its residents. Still, there are not enough events and things to do on the grid that will encourage the residents to get creative, help one another, and generate positive social interactions. As a result, second life is full of people who are bored, lonely, and in need of attention so they turn to negative ways to fill that void.

SLE: What do you think would be a proper solution to these problems?

Oriana Robertson: A possible solution would be for the Lindens to create better incentives for people who are hosting events that will bring residents together; especially activities that will help those who are having trouble finding their way or "niche" within the community. They can do this perhaps by offering free or low cost classes for those who would like to learn a special skill. If not low cost courses then as an alternative they can offer affordable rent for people who host events like these.

Chocolate Voom-Wingtips, Creator, Wife, and Mother

SLE: What do you think are the Biggest Issues for Avies in SL?

Chocolate Voom: The biggest issues that me and many avas that I know have are: inventory loss and copybotting. I have had my share of inventory loss over my 8 years in SL.  The loss that really irked me was during December 2014.  I lost two rare gacha items that are next to impossible to replace without spending a small fortune.  This loss occurred during unscheduled maintenance.  I did not rez them; the items simply vanished from my inventory.  There is no way to get the items back from either the creator or LL.  Inventory loss is not always discovered immediately; usually I am searching for the objects when I discover they have vanished.  SLers should be compensated even if a small percentage of their loss is returned, by Linden Labs.
Another big issue that avies are facing is the increasing risk of purchasing copybotted items on MarketPlace and inworld.  Thieves are more brazen than ever and rip off hardworking legitimate creators all of the time.  I see so many illegal items on MarketPlace.  It's terrible for the creators and the SL community as a whole.

Possible Solution:
If more measures were taken against the botters, content theft could slowly but surely change.  Ban viewers that have security flaws that allow copybotting.  Ban scripts that allow copybotting.  Ban the thieves swiftly and consistently.

Esther Bailey Prata, Creator and Owner of LAGO DE PRATA

Problem:
Esther : The amount of scripts most avies unknowingly carry with them and create lag.

Possible solution: Better education on script usage.

Autumn Yap, Owner of Hiϛh V

Problem:
Autumn: I think it depends on how long they’ve been here. For newbies or people who are revisiting sl I think catching up to get their look updated. Maybe that is a big issue for everyone though, staying up to date with what’s going on and improving in world.

Possible solution:
Autumn: I think stores do a good job with their groups and subscribomatics keeping buyers aware of what’s new but so many groups and notifications are overwhelming. Not sure of how to fix such a thing but I think outlets like Second life Inventory and Seraphinsl.com are great resources.

Forever Tracei Moore, Owner of Foil

Problem:
Forever Tracei Moore : Trusting others with my most personal feelings, I’m normally guarded and only allow selective people in. However, I find that the people that hurt you the most are normally the ones you let in and know which choices of actions will cause you the most damage.

Possible Solution:
Forever Tracei Moore: There is no solution to this, it's a risk you take to love others and allow them to love you back, even if it’s just for a moment.

Addressing the Problems & Solutions

Lanai Jarrico: I’ve been in Second Life a very long time. I wouldn’t have survived it without knowing how to handle situations thrown in my path so I am offering you all some advice. From Lag, copybotting and the lack of men’s clothes to overwhelming subscribotic notices and emotional attacks, there are issues in Second life that could use some much needed attention. Overcoming these obstacles can be a challenge but there are solutions that can at least lessen the impact on how they will personally effect you. Lag is something that has been around since the beginning of virtual world. We can look at it as poor weather that we cannot control or we can do things to help reduce it such as lighten the load of scripts and prims on your land and or avatar and encourage your friends to do the same. Working together on this issue can make a difference.

Copybotting is just like having burglars in your rl neighborhoods or cities. We all know they are there but never know who they are or when they will strike. The best way to discourage thieves is to report them to authorities whenever you see suspicious activity.  But for the most part LL needs to step up to the plate and really do something about it.
The issue with men’s clothes seems to be parallel to the real world. Woman have always had it better when it comes to the assortment of fashion and accessories available. If more male designers fill the demand then the women would be the ones complaining. lol

Emotional Attacks have got to be one of the worst problems between people in Second Life. The best way to avoid personal attacks is to be selective with the information you share with others. Especially, things that might make you vulnerable to attacks the minute things go south. This doesn’t mean you are lying to someone you care about. You don’t have to share every detail of your life. Caring about someone is more about what you would do to protect them and show them they mean something to you. All the extra information is just sprinkles on the cake. The cake should be good on its own. The sprinkles don’t make it what it really is.
Last but not least, the overwhelming subscribomatics notices. This seems to be one of the biggest issues when it comes to mass spamming and bombardment of advertisement. I’m currently dealing with this issue myself.  It is definitely a violation of SL etiquette and needs to be stopped. Anyone who owns a subscribomatic should ask before adding people to the system. It is rude and inconsiderate. The best solution to this problem is contact them and ask them to please exclude you from the friend list spamming. If that doesn’t work make yourself appear offline to the violators or simply delete that person off your friend list. If they don’t talk to you any other time but to spam you, they aren’t really a friend anyway.

Spotlight on Seduction Estates: An Adult Themed SIM for the Grown and Sexy- Rere Sandalwood Reporting…

Many of us know the SIMS we can go to when we get horny, but do we know where to go when we crave the kind of sexual contact that conveys intimacy and warmth?  If you are still befuddled by this question, then you may need to pay a visit to MrJazz Melody and Mrs.StormLove’s Seduction Estates.

The last time the SL Enquirer paid a visit to the Estates, the SIM was in the process of being renovated to house the Seduction Club, as well as a mall, an Adult Beach with a live stage, and a romantic restaurant.  When asked what prompted the Seduction Estate renovations, Mrs.StormLove says, “[MrJazz Melody and I] wanted more of a Beach appeal and feel to the SIM.  [We desired to create]…a clean yet naughty place for those who enjoy class and style.”  In addition, Storm contends that she and MrJazz also wanted an Adult Beach where people could freely express their sexual desires in an environment that conveys openness and warmth.

This desire to show the connection between sexuality, desire, and warmth is a very rare thing to find on an adult-themed SIM.  This is because often, the commodity sold is solely sex, which excludes the inclusion of all the characteristics intrinsic in creating intimacy.  While many may think this to be appealing, the true romantic who yearns for something more than physical contact may be pleasantly surprised by the warmth and family feel they encounter at Seduction Estates.  Yet all surprises aside, The Seduction Estates reminds a person that they should EXPECT this kind of treatment at an Adult-themed SIM…

When asked about what made the Seduction Estates Adult-themed beach so different from other SL beaches, Mrs.StormLove contends, “[We have created a] beach designed with EVERYONE in mind…[our aim is] to appeal to all cultures…whether you want to stand around and chat in the nude [or] have open sex with your partner by the waterfall and moonlight, [the] Pure Ecstasy Beach is the place for YOU!”

Mrs.StormLove continues: “Escorts are [also] welcome to come and enjoy the beach and bring their fun here!  We have rooms [that can be used for whatever reason desired and] they are not expensive…[we also have] the Best beds and Hot Tubs in SL.”

To elaborate further, Mrs.StormLove points to a pool located on the Seduction Estate grounds.  “This pool…” she explains, “…has over 6000 sex animations….[you can click] the buttons down at the bottom and see the menu for yourself!”

Like there is freedom in discovering over 6000 sex animations at the Seduction Estate pool, Mrs.StormLove contends that there is also freedom in being naked and letting it all hang out.  She explains, “An Avi body is a representation of our inner being coming out of [our own] minds and giving [ourselves] a chance to enjoy [our] most erotic fantasies in SL.”  These erotic fantasies can include BSDM and other kinds of rough and fantasy-based sex. Mrs.StormLove also describes Seduction Estates as a kind of erotic offering to customers. “Seduction Estates…” Mrs.StormLove contends, “…offers our customers the freedom to enjoy whatever fantasy they choose…in a great atmosphere [that is full of] sex appeal.” Thus, for those who are totally looking to get laid BSDM style, or even via a one night stand, the Seduction Estates has a venue that is perfect for you, too.

From the Freaky-Teaky to Shopping Extraordinaire!

In addition to having a fabulous Adult themed Beach, Seduction Estates also has a Mall that houses a Barbershop, a Bridal Store, and an array of other fashionable attire.  Mrs.StormLove continues, “Yes we have a wide variety of Men’s and Women’s shoes….boots, clothes, [you name it]. We [are also] resellers [who sell products by] Wild orchid, Sexy Peach, Class A, and Kinkyo…[as well as] clothes with appliers.” Mrs.StormLove exclaims, “We [also] have a Store that is not ours…it is on the top floor [of the Mall and is called] Sickening Sweet!” Storm explains that Sickening Sweet is a clothing store that specializes in sexy attire, with an emphasis on fetish.

Fine Dining, Entertainment and Living at Seduction Estate
Speaking about an emphasis on fetish, patrons can get the pleasure of experiencing the finest food, wine and entertainment at the Seduction Estate Restaurant.  When the SL Enquirer asked, “Why have a restaurant when there is little need to actually eat in SL?” Mrs.StormLove throws the question back at us with a “Why Not?”  Unabashed, Mrs.StormLove continues, “...the Restaurant has its own flavor…the role play experience there can be as close to RL as we can get it…we have live entertainment weekly, and we are still hiring comedians and live entertainment by the way, too…and we do all of this because we want to bring in the customers who like to date…[customers who want to] plan a special evening for their date, take them to a great meal [then take them out] dancing, [and] get the best customer service treatment [available]…and continue [to come] back and tell others [about their experience, too]….”

When asked to elaborate on whether or not Seduction is hiring, Storm says, “Yes we are hiring employees for the following positions:  DJ'S , WAITERS, WAITRESS, HOSTESS, ESCORTS, BARTENDERS, POLE DANCERS, STRIPPERS, LIVE SINGERS, and POETS.  [But be mindful that] …we are not just looking to hire for jobs…we are looking to build a company, with [an opportunity to cultivate a] career that [can prove to be perfect for] employees.  [Thus,] we are looking for those who are serious about role play and who want [to have] a purpose [in] their SL world…[we are looking for individuals] who want to bring their experiences [to life, as well as] build a great network with lasting friendships.”
However, if you venture to the Seduction Estate Restaurant, all patrons should be warned to bring their own boy toys and side pieces, because the live performances will not only leave you speechless, they will also leave you feeling sexually aroused.  In fact, during one of Subtlety Danglish’s recent performances (performances that happen every Wednesday from 5pm-6pm SLT), America2000 could be heard exclaiming, “Where the hell is Daddy when I need him!!!!” Other females could be heard echoing a similar sentiment, because they were mumbling things like, “I am horny as f---!“ and “Where are the men at when you need them!?”

While Danglish’s performance is one of many Seduction Estate venues that will leave you feeling some kind of way, the entertainment offered at the Seduction Estate restaurant is very telling, because it alludes to the kind of environment Mrs.StormLove and MrJazzyMelody aim to create for all of their patrons.  “We are doing all we can to make it better here,” explains Mrs.StormLove. “In fact…” she continues, “…we have skyboxes available to all of our patrons to rent…and all our homes are rent and show by demand, and we don’t experience lag.” Like the 6000 animation pool available, the parcels available has an extensive array of sex animations available not only in their bathrooms, but on their beds and rugs as well.

And for those that are interested in renting the Seduction Estates location out for a wedding, Rezz Day or other event, the estate offers freedom and flexibility in that area as well.  Mrs.StormLove contends, “We offer patrons an opportunity to hold naked weddings, as well as a wide range of seductive sex play toys on the SIM…”

The Pure VIP Pass Benefits and Awards Program
Besides the stellar live performances, amazing beach and realistic restaurant, Seduction Estate offers a Pure VIP pass for patrons interested in getting even more bang for their lindens.  Mrs.StormLove summarizes the Pure VIP pass as follows:  ”The VIP MEMBERSHIP is an entitlement afforded to all of our patrons who purchase the Pure VIP membership….[in fact] our Entire Second floor sky lounge is designed for the those who want the special treatment…it has a [regal and virtually] royal feel to it…[and is solely allowed to be used by Pure VIP patrons, all for the inexpensive price of $200L.”
Be mindful that with the purchase of the Pure VIP pass, patrons get access to the ~Pure Seduction~ VIP SKYLOUNGE, as well as full access to the Seduction Estate’s GREEDY Game table.  Pure VIP members also are allowed to freely use the Estate’s LAPDANCE CHAIRS, and also have free access to the Estate’s OPEN BAR.  Storm continues, “Of course, all Pure VIP members also have unlimited access to our DINING TABLES, CUDDLE CHAIRS….not to mention AN ENTIRE DANCE FLOOR and a HOT TUB.”
As if the Seduction Estates offerings are not enough, Mrs.StormLove lets the SL Enquirer know that Seduction Estates is also in the midst of planning other events to encourage patronage of their SIM.  “WE HAVE MANY EVENTS SCHEDULED….” she explains, “…there will be a BIKE RALLY, [complete] with bike racing and Trophies to be WON, and we are looking for leaders of Fashion to sponsor events for our upcoming Fashion Show that will feature the Spring fashions of SL.  Thus, we need participants who are willing to get their products out there via a Party or Event.  Seduction Estate is also looking to recruit various Talk shows who want to broadcast from the Seduction Estate Location.”
Catching her breath before starting anew, Mrs.StormLove continues, “Seduction Estates is also planning a SPRING BREAK EVENT, SO I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO KEEP WATCHING AND WAITING BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO COME!”
We at the SL Enquirer have a feeling that there is so much more to the Seduction Estates than watching and waiting, and we are enamored at what is on the horizon for this SIM.

Windows on The World with Wallace Locke- Debby Sharma Reporting...

Windows on the World was the most lavish restaurant at the 106th and 107th floor of the North Tower of World Trade Centre which was destroyed by the 9/11 attack in 2001. It was built in the year 1976. At the time of the attack, it is documented that 76 employees were working under the head chef, Michael Lomonaco. Windows on the World, built by Wallace Locke in Second Life is a tribute to the victims in the attack and a pointer to the rest of the world about the lives and memories lost in such a pointless tragedy.

Debby Sharma: “Windows on The World” is pretty close to real life. Why did you choose to make it?

Wallace Locke: We researched it pretty thoroughly. We wanted to open a club, a ballroom venue and something unique. Also we were copying real life venues. We wanted to make a tribute to those that died at 9/11. I was appalled and very sad that the world had come to that state. Hence, this is the replica of the restaurant on the top of the World Trade Center. All of the events are performances of live singers.

Debby Sharma: Which were the other real life venues, that you had shortlisted for this project? Have you ever thought of making a venue out of your own imagination?

Wallace Locke: We actually have 5 clubs on this sim. All were based on real life venues. There is the “White Horse Tavern” that is a tribute to a restaurant that my grandfather owned here in San Antonio. We also have a “Filmore” and a “Marquee club”. These are not active at present. Then, there is the “Landing” which is based on a jazz club that used to be located in San Antonio on the river. We have had events at all of the venues. The two that are active currently are Windows on the World and The White Horse Tavern. None other were short listed.  We have made several venues before just from our own imagination. There was “Pump it Up”, a rock venue in a fire station. There was “Sunset Lounge”, a romantic venue on the beach. There was “Margaritaville”, a Mexican cantina on the beach. That’s all i can think of at the moment.

Debby Sharma: Please tell us something about your journey in Second Life and about your journey as a DJ?

Wallace Locke: I saw an episode of CSI that included a version of SL. I joined and started exploring. I met some people and had fun. Then my wife joined me and we enjoyed things together. We bought some land and outgrew that in short order. We kept expanding until we had a full sim. Now we own 5 sims. We also were a 1/3 partner on a sim with one club and several shops. We learned a lot about doing things there. It ran quite well for a couple of years. Only 3 of our sims are full. The other two are homesteads. When Whispers magic closed, we decided we wanted to continue with the clubs. So, we started building them and kept going until we had 5. As I am a retired electrical engineer so the technical parts come easy to me. This is the short version of my journey.  I do five shows a week at Black Horse Country and One show every other week at the RMS Titanic. I like to play country, romantic dance music, classic rock, blues and jazz. I like country and really don't have a favorite song. I play what the folks want to hear.

Debby Sharma: Would you like to tell us something about your team and about your wife?

Wallace Locke: There is just the two of us, me and my real life wife. We have recently hired a manager for the two active clubs as we were getting a little overloaded.
My wife loves to decorate and has done all the decorating of the clubs and our sims for that matter. She does weddings either here at our wedding venue and at the Titanic. She is a genius when it comes to decorating.

Debby Sharma: Among all the venues that you both have built till date, which one is the most favorite? Are there any future projects that you are planning on?

Wallace Locke: Hers is this one right here, Windows on the World. I really like the White Horse Tavern.
Not at the moment. But who knows what the future may bring. We do have a couple of things we are working on but they are secret; another club perhaps, redo of an old one.

Debby Sharma: What would you like to say to your visitors through this podium?
Wallace Locke: Welcome to Windows on the World. We have great talent singing here. You will certainly have a great time when you come.

My Reflection of a Second Life and How we are all Part of the Ripple Effect – Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

The beauty of Second Life may not be understood by people who are not immersed in the culture and get to know others in this virtual community. It is a combination of personalities, cultures and experiences that only the people who spend time in Second Life understand. To some it is just a game. To many others it is a journey of self discovery. Second Life helps people have a voice, go beyond physical limitations and disabilities, share their skills, talents and even make profound connections with people they would have never met in their city, state or even country.  Having the ability to communicate with people from all over the world has fascinated me from the very beginning and I am still amazed by the people I meet today.
I don’t consider myself an expert in Second Life. I am an elder and with that institutes wisdom. I still bump into walls and struggle hanging pictures on the wall but I do understand the community and how it works. My observation of people and their actions has inspired the majority of my writing. I wonder if my experiences would make a best seller one day.

We each have a story to tell as we branch off into our own interests and journeys.  For me Second Life has been a part of my life for nearly a decade. It grew from an idea I had sharing my experiences as a newbie with my circle of friends in The SIMS Online. I never thought that documenting what was happening around me would go viral and turn into one of the top news sources in Second Life.

The SL Enquirer is a true testament to just how special this virtual world is that I would dedicate years of my life to provide a platform for not only my writers but a bridge of communication between the residents who share the many things that happen here. The positive growth in my personal life has been doing what I love and earning a Bachelor’s degree in Communication & Technology in the process. I have Second Life to thank for inspiring and helping me achieving that goal.

My journey has not been easy but my achievements have been worth working hard for. I understand the power of media and the role it plays in the lives of others.  At times the pressure of it can be stressful and overwhelming being pulled in different directions and being spread thin. Pleasing people while upsetting others is a hurdle I must get passed often. Sometimes I feel like I am holding a scale and struggling to keep it balanced.

I had to accept I cannot please everyone and at times I would be faced with difficult people and situations.  In order to survive the demands of my position I had to trust and surround myself with my closest friends for protection and guidance.

All media sources in Second Life (Not just SLE) play a very important role in the community. Being a leader takes strength and courage. I respect other sources in SL that do what I do. I am sure they can relate to the struggles I face.  We are the record keepers documenting SL history and should be respected for how significant our job really is. I’ve been told I was insignificant before, even a useless individual. Those things can be hurtful to anyone but I know what I do is not useless or insignificant.

Virtual world media in all genres (blogs, in- world magazines, Machinima and radio) provide a window for the real world where anyone with access to the internet can read about us, listen to or watch pieces of our culture.  Fans of our work get to know more about the people that make up Second Life. That is why it is important to remember there is a human being behind ever avatar and our actions will define who we are as individuals.

None of us are perfect but if we are capable of managing in a virtual world despite the drama and issues we are presented with, we are competent to make choices that do not disrupt other people’s virtual experience.

I speak for us all when I say WE are all connected like pieces to a puzzle.  No matter what we contribute to the community our individual actions create a ripple on the grid that can affect others in a positive or negative way. Those emotions may include excitement, happiness, love, lust sadness, angry, confusion and betrayal. Each of these emotions can linger with us even after we log out and into our real world. Sometimes lines get blurred leaving us to deal with new type of emotions not yet fully understood by the psych experts.  In Second Life we all live inside our own heads and meet others from the inside out; most of the time through text communication.

Sometimes things get misinterpreted or lost in translation when facial expressions, hand gestures and voice tones are absent. Yet, we have adapted, erased the global lines and barriers that keep us all apart and we have grown as a virtual culture.

Together we will continue to exist as long as we all strive for one common goal; survival as a community and not as insolents who cannot handle our own freedom of expression.

As we approach Spring, the season of renewal, let's bring with us a brighter perspective on the world, strive for personal improvements and celebrate life.

About Relay For Life of Second Life:
Relay For Life is the signature event of the American Cancer Society and has been active, and continually growing in Second Life for 10 years. In 2005, the first Relay For Life of Second Life (RFL of SL) was attended by a few hundred avatars and raised almost $5,000 US dollars for the American Cancer Society. As of July 2014 RFL of SL ranks number 17th out of 5000 teams worldwide in donations received. We have brought in over 2 million US dollars to help with the fight against cancer. This year our Relay weekend will be held on July 17th and 18th.

About the American Cancer Society:
The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of nearly three million volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society's efforts have contributed to a 22 percent decline in cancer death rates in the US during the past two decades, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates. Thanks in part to our progress nearly 14.5 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year.  We're determined to finish the fight against cancer. As the nation’s  largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, we’re finding cures and ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air, and more. For more information, to get help, or to join the fight, visit cancer.org or call us anytime, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345.
