Spotlight on Maverick’s MC @ Ruffneck Falls- Respect, Diversity, Inclusion, Friendship, Fellowship, and Fun.- SLE Reporting...

Motorcycle Clubs in the real world are usually organized by the riding type, style, brand of bike or events and have evolved since the early 1900s when it is said MCs first originated right after world war II with the New York Motorcycle Club, which merged with the Alpha MC of Brooklyn to become the federation of American Motorcyclists. Eventually, it grew into the American Motorcyclist Association.

Today there are many motorcycle clubs around the world involved in charity rides and other activities for the greater good slowly shedding the stigma of criminal activities by the biker gangs considered “outlaws” of society.

In Second Life, you can be part of a Motorcycle club and virtually ride across scenic terrains with your group of friends and be involved in charity events and other fun and entertaining activities without spending a single lick of gas or running up miles on your hog or crotch rocket.

The great thing about MCs in Second Life is the bond it creates between members from around the world, sharing a virtual highway.  The SL Enquirer caught up with Maverick’s MCs owner  Λ G (angelor.galanter) and his business partner  Karlee (karlee.heartsong) to learn more about this motorcycle club and what it stands for.

Interview with Λ G (angelor.galanter) and Karlee (karlee.heartsong)

SLE: Before we get into Maverick’s MC @ Ruffneck Falls, we’d love to know where you are from and how you discovered Second Life?

Λ G: I am in California and have lived here for many years. I became the sole parent, both mother, and father, if you will, of my youngest daughter who was 6 at the time. I wanted a way for us to play together and learn together. So, supervised, I joined SL to let her play barbie on a safe sim.

Karlee:  I live in Colorado. My RL husband introduced me to SL about 10 years ago. I hated it but tried it again a few years later and I am still here.

SLE: AG that’s an awesome way to bond with your child and Karlee glad you gave SL another shot.  Would you consider Second Life an extension of your real life or just a game to pass some time?

Λ G:  From day 1 I have acted and believed that SL is an extension and an enhancement of my real life (think video-conference with friends and loved ones!).

Karlee: I consider SL to be an extension of real-life as my feelings are involved here. I have found a great community, love to build, and even talk to many people I met here, outside of SL proper.

SLE: What inspired you to create  Maverick’s MC @ Ruffneck Falls? Can you tell our readers more about your MC motto and what you expect from members?

Λ G: Very simply we are an upscale hybrid MC within the mainstream of SL'ers who love SL and being part of a community for connection, adventure, and fun. We seek anyone who loves motorcycles, MC way of life, and brings skills, talents, and passion.

Our Motto is Respect, Diversity, Inclusion, Friendship, Fellowship, and Fun.

We expect our members to be themselves, and share their journey in SL/life with us as we do with them.

Karlee: Angelor and I both have set this as our mission.

SLE: That is a great motto. Are you all invite-only or can anyone go to the MC events or is it exclusively for members only?

Λ G: In general, our MC is open to the public, including events and concerts. Anyone can come and simply hang out if they enjoy the community Karlee and I (and many others) have created.

Karlee: I think other than those events specifically for patched members, anyone can join in. We love having people here and visiting with them.

SLE: That is great you are open to the public, please tell our readers more of the  types of events do you host?

Λ G: Our MC, which Karlee and I both envisioned together, and have hosted DJs and Live singers. We look forward to other events during rallies, bike build-offs, and, perhaps, even re-imagining products and services that are a benefit to the MC community as a whole.

SLE: How can visitors interested in becoming a patched member of Maverick’s MC @ Ruffneck Falls join the MC and be part of your community?

Λ G: My first suggestion for anyone is to come to meet us, ride our tracks, and get a feel for who, what, why, and how we operate. We, essentially, have no restrictions as to race, creed, sex, sexual orientation, physical or mental conditions, religious/political affiliations, or citizenship. If members can't ride directly, they can either ride as a passenger for our ride-outs or be a non-riding but equally essential contributing patched member.

Karlee: The way I see it, people should attempt to get to know the current members of Mavericks MC by joining our support group, attending our events, hanging out with us, and deciding if what we offer would be what they would want in their lives. After that, fill out an application to join and go from there.

SLE:  There are multiple Motorcycle clubs in Second Life. What separates Maverick’s MC from the rest?

Λ G:  I think a more important part is how we "fit" the fabric of all the MCs. MCs are all different but work together for the community as a whole. Every MC is a unique part of the larger community on a spectrum of all possible human potentials. Basically, we can't separate ourselves from other MCs anymore than people can separate themselves from humanity.

Karlee: In addition to that, Mavericks are different in that we are not fighting or griefing MC. We are here to enjoy our lives, have a great time with a community that all of us have built together.

SLE:  Many MCs do a lot for the community. Orion is a rider and has done many Toys for Tots and Poker Runs and many other charity rides. What kind of charities are you involved in or special events within Second Life?

Λ G:  As a vet myself, as well as Karlee, I am going to defer to her answer on that, she summarizes it so well. I will add that we assist other MCs with creating and building their sims, tracks, or any other projects they ask us to help with. We've shared the essence of our bylaws with others, as well. In addition, Karlee and I are working on tech products that will be useful not only in MCs but SL in general that will be free to all who wish to use them.

Karlee: We had a Wounded Warrior Project event on Memorial Day and we are currently planning where we go from there. Basically, as veterans, we not only hold events but help out other MCs with their events whenever possible.

SLE: Are you looking for more patched members or people for support? Can you tell us if you are currently recruiting or hiring for any positions within the motorcycle club?

Λ G:  We just started our recruitment drive about two weeks ago. This drive includes classified ads, notifications, posters, and more. Realistically, it's about us as an MC getting out there meeting/greeting people and making alliances primarily outside of MC's. There are many SL'ers who don't even know that up to 200 full track sims exist for their enjoyment. We can't and do not accept other current MC members or those who recently left an MC. (See our Recruitment Poster)

SLE: You have a Dedicated Highway here on the sim, can you tell our readers more about that?

Λ G: Yes, well, if you have anything you'd like to dedicate a track to you can. Passed or living. rip or birthday, especially vets, disabled, retired, and more.  it puts heart in what we do. We also have a Wounded Warrior Sign up and HFOT kiosk to donate for homes for our troops

Karlee: I did one level for a real-life navy friend of mine who passed away recently. The honorarium stays up for one month.

SLE: Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Karlee: We welcome everyone to come to visit Mavericks MC @ Ruffneck Falls to enjoy the natural and beautiful tracks that we have here. We have 15 total tracks. 13 of these are nice wide tracks with beautiful surrounds, a speed track to test your skills on, and our newest track, Blade Runner.

Λ G:  I will add our primary mission: Mavericks MC's mission is to create, join, and participate in SL events, including ride-outs and/with other MCs, public, and related activities. Ride Outs typically highlight our connections with each other in a fun and unique way (usually in-voice).

Mavericks MC, Angelor Galanter, is one of many MC Estate owners and SL Estate owners spearheading a movement to eradicate griefing as a tool to strike fear in Owners of sims and businesses, and causing a huge loss in traffic and revenue. TRANSGENDERS IN TRANSITION: WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE - JOSH (THOMAS1 BELLIC) REPORTING

What can I say?  I like people.  I like talking to people...and I like hearing their stories.  It is interesting how much you can learn just by listening.  It is said that God gave us two ears and one mouth in order that we might listen twice as much as we speak. Would that more people would do so.
It was a Friday night a few weeks back.  I was in one of my favorite SL haunts, and I struck up a conversation with another patron at the bar. Over the next hour, Mercedes shared with me her story.  A story of introspection, identifying how she sees herself, embracing that identity, and then sharing that identity with the important people in her life. Mercedes is Transgender, or a “Trans”, as she calls it.  Assigned male at birth in RL, Mercedes identifies as female, in RL and in SL.
Transgender is a term used to describe people whose gender or sense of personal identity does not match the sex they were born with. In other words, a transgender person may have been born as a male but identifies as a female or vice versa.  Research suggests that 1.4 million adults identify as transgender in the United States. About 0.7% of adults 18-24 identify as transgender, and 0.5% of adults 65 and older identify as transgender.

After conferring with my editor, we decided that Mercedes’ story could serve to inform and enlighten SL Enquirer readers about life as a transgender, and possibly shed some light and support understanding this often-misunderstood population.
Josh Bellic (JB):  Mercedes, I believe you have an interesting story to tell, and I appreciate your willingness to share it with our SL Readers.  To start off, can you tell us, when did you first decide to go Trans?
Mercedes (M):  Not sure exactly Josh, but I am pretty sure it was about 15 years ago.
JB:  I imagine it must have been a fairly lengthy process to arrive at such a momentous decision, no? So, what was it that caused you to make that decision?
M:  Well Josh, I have always been female in my mind.  I just finally just reached a point in my life where I had the opportunity to complete the process.  Modern hormones and medicine are amazing these days. They really are.
JB:  And what of your family and friends?  How did they react when they heard the news?  Did your family support you in this?
M:  Well, most of them were shocked, but a few were not..  You’re gonna have to accept that you will lose friends in the process, but to me they were not that good of friends, to begin with.  My family is mostly accepting....distant family members remain... well.. ...distant  lol
JB:  And what about “crossdressers”?   Are they the same as “Trans”?
M:  No. That is not correct.  I know some straight males that just enjoy dressing up.  They see themselves as males, whereas I and other true transgenders, identify as female.
JB:  How do you feel about all the guys playing females here in SL?  Anecdotal wisdom suggests that up to half the women avies here are men in RL
M: I don’t mind.  That’s what SL is all about – a "Second Life".  Where else can you see what life would be like as the opposite gender?  Just don't trick anyone that you’re "close" to.  That’s not fair to them.
JB:  And what about the “T-Girls” in SL?  - attractive female avis with male genitalia.  What is THAT all about? Are these folks legit Trans also?
M:  I find most are male.  TG people work so hard in RL to hide our history (bulge) so, in my option, a real TG is not going to show off their parts whether all out or a bulge, the point is to be seen and accepted as female.  I have no bulge clothes, and in any nude-only places, I am seen as female.  I don't advertise in my profile but all my friends know about me and for sure if we are dating, I don't hide or trick, I just don't advertise as I feel it’s no one’s business but my own. Sorry, I got sidetracked....but to answer your question...I don’t judge anyone here, if someone wants to flaunt their privates, more power to them.  If you don't like it, don't look.  :)
JB:  Do you feel subtle or not-so-subtle discrimination here, or in RL?
M:  SL is very accepting, more so here than RL actually.  It provides a platform where I get a lot of questions asked that one may feel uncomfortable asking in RL.
JB:  How far along in the transformation process are you?
M:  This is a complicated question...as far as Male to female,  I’m happy where I’m at.  But regardless of your gender, you are always making improvements on your Physique and look.  So when I look in the mirror I’m happy but always saying "I gotta fix that", and off to the gym I go (5X a week btw ..lol)
JB:  I remember reading an interview with a RL trans.   She was saying how lonely she was.  Men won't date her, because they see her as really a man;  lesbian women won't date her because she is not “really” a woman.  It must be terribly lonely. She can’t seem to make it all work.

M:  Yeah.  It takes a special breed of a person to get past all that.  Once they get to know me though, things change.  Appearance is only skin deep.

JB:  So, Mercedes.  You have been here almost 14 years?  What is the attraction to SecondLife, and what is it that keeps you coming back night after night?

M:  My attraction was simple boredom.  I wish I could say something more exotic, but I can’t.   I keep coming back because it is fun.  There is always lots to do and you meet people and create relationships with people from all around the world.

JB:  Is there anything else about your experience you would like to share with our readers?

M: Just be yourself, enjoy your SL as you wish.  Just know that everyone enjoys their SL the way they wish and there is no reason to be judgmental of others.

So, there you have it, folks.  Yet another fascinating resident, contributing to the variety of lifestyles that make up the fabric of Life on the Grid

Aloha!

JB

GeekSpeak – Humanoid robots, will they ever catch on? Sept 4th at 12pm SLT

Elon Musk has said that he will have a humanoid robot within a year.  Let’s ask why we would want one.

We already have machines that work for us, such as our washing machines and our cars, and we don’t expect them to look like humans.  Looking human would be very difficult to achieve.  Stability and balance are hard for humans. Walking, running and jumping, even manipulative work might be much easier if robots did not have to look like humans. And we must also think about the uncanny valley.  Would we feel comfortable with robots that look almost human?

On the other hand, there are so many stories about robots that look completely human and so many companies want to achieve that.  Is it what we all want?  Robot butlers, robot maids, robot cooks?  How do you feel about it?

Bring your feelings and your prejudices and talk to us in GeekSpeak.

IM Vulcan Viper, who teaches a meditation class every Wednesday at 1pm SLT in the GeekSpeak auditorium, if you have ideas for new subjects.

Romantic Date Ideas for Second Life: Xerei Savantes takes herself on a date

Guess who's back! Back Again! It’s time again for more romance with you tentacled reporter! This time I had to get creative and decided to take myself out on a date! A date by myself!? A date with yourself is self-care and it’s just as important! This time around we are exploring some romantic date ideas that you and your partner can go out to and do what couples do! So let's get down to brass tacks and show you guys the places I found for you on my self date.

For my first date, I took myself to Luna te Amo. For me, this place screamed nothing but romance. From the second you teleport in you are awashed with romance as you take in the beautifully done atmosphere. The welcoming ambiance envelopes you as you start to walk down the path and come to your choice at a T-intersection. Going left will take you out of the mists and on to a beach which is just as welcoming. You can continue along the boardwalk and loop back into the plaza of mists as I shall call it, or you can stop and enjoy the sights of the beach and relax by your lonesome as I did or snuggle up to your partner. If you choose to go right you will be welcomed by a nice path through a beautifully done water hall. Stop and enjoy a rest on a bench or continue on and take a seat at the end on the bridge to nowhere.

Luna te Amo:http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Feels%20Like%20Heaven/194/134/22

For my second date, I decided I wanted to go someplace whimsical, and with a name like Runaway Moon, I couldn’t resist. Let's just say that I didn’t disappoint myself at all. When you first get to Runaway Moon you are welcomed by a vibrant and welcoming landscape. As you start your ascension up the path please make sure to wander off so you can enjoy everything there is to see, I highly recommend the crystals. When you’re ready and continue your ascension up the path, close your eyes and hold your breath as you are transported through the mists to the cosmic staircase to continue your journey. When you reach the top you are greeted by a beautiful starry sky and the scenery makes it feel as if you just stepped into a dream. Enjoy the serenity and relax in a sea of clouds. Make sure to visit the edge and follow the small path to the end where you can enjoy a seat with a cosmic view but be careful not to fall or you’ll have to walk back up but then again, I don’t think that is a bad thing at all.

It’s time for our third date and this time I decided to be my own sugar momma and went tropical. For the destination of my date I went to ~Suaka~ and let's just say I’m going to make sure sugar momma takes me back again. I instantly fell in love with everything about the place. From the post-colonial feel to the feeling of remoteness to the Asian architecture, all of it ties very nicely into a place for a perfect remote tropical date. Make sure to explore everywhere as you walk around taking in the sights of the beaches and the island, make sure you also enjoy the herd of elephants! At the end make sure you juice up your partner at the bar and then go find a spot on the beach to enjoy the nice tropical sky.

~Suaka~: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/ValiumSL/136/142/32

I think it’s time for us to rest our weary feet and for our fourth date, we are going to do exactly that. After some time wandering the woods in the rain I found The Rainy Cafe and decided it was time for some more self TLC.  Coming to the cafe entails getting a little wet so if you don’t like sitting in wet clothes you might want to bring an umbrella or just make a quick dash to the front door. Once inside you are greeted with warmth and a feeling of home as you take a seat and enjoy a nice cup of tea and a snack with your partner. Enjoy the comfort of the atmosphere while listening to the rain outside in the trees. Use the time to talk about your dreams and desires in comfort in this cozy but romantic cafe.

For my final date, I took myself to Hypnotic Romance. After a long day, it’s time to grab your partner and go on what is the best date of all sometimes, doing nothing with company. Sometimes doing nothing is the most romantic date. Grab your partner and go visit Hypnotic Romance. Stroll through the tall grass and take them to one of the many spaces to just sit and relax. Wrap your arms around your partner as you enjoy a gorgeous sunset out over the water and start counting the emerging stars. I think I got to fifteen before I succumbed to the comfiness of my seat and dozed off. If you want relaxation upon arriving then I highly recommend Hypnotic Romance.

Exploring the cultivated gardens of Second Life.- Xerie Savantes Reporting

Flowers are such pretty things. They can range from the tiniest to some of the most towering things that we see when we go out into nature. We have taken these little lovies of nature and have added them into our lives in various ways as we have evolved. For us, flowers have just as many meanings as there are flowers. A flower can symbolize love, life, death. Some can symbolize many things at once. For some symbology doesn’t matter, for some it does. The thing that we can all agree on though in the end is that we all love looking at flowers in one way or another. There is just something about flowers that we always enjoy and so I’m going to take you on a journey with me as I explore some of the gardens that we have in our wonderful second world.

The first stop we have isn’t your traditional garden but more of a cultivated forest, Garden of Dreams. It is a wonderful little forest that is filled with wildlife that skitters around while you explore. Albeit not large it has a variety of places that you can hang out by your lonesome or with a friend if you wish. The wooden benches and tables give it all a very lovely rustic feel that very easily induces relaxation. As you explore this cultivated forest makes sure that you find the little spots so you can enjoy some nice views as well.

Garden of Dreams: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Garden%20of%20Dreams/161/94/36

Our second destination is Angel Manor and Garden. When I came to this garden I was surprised by the sight that I saw. The manor is gigantic but gives you a nice sense of the type of garden you are in. As you look around you’ll see that you are indeed in a manor estate. It made me feel as if I had been planted into an estate that you see in the movies, even down to the gardens. They are very well planned and everything is in its proper place. As I walked around enjoying the sights of the estate gardens it was evident that the creator had a very specific plan for what they wanted and did it very well. It’s truly like walking through an actual estate garden, even complete with a ginormous swimming pool.

Next stop on the train!! For this stop, we will be visiting another estate but my journey ended at the Greenhouse. It is a small garden but beautiful on its own but it is inside the Greenhouse where the real beauty is. Once you enter the building you are transported to what feels like an old era greenhouse. The flowers inside are simple but stunning. The arrangement of the interior makes it a very nice place to come and relax and to hide away and to smell some flowers or even hide and work while surrounding yourself with a gorgeous setting.

For this next stop, we are driving right into the center of Bay City and making a stop at the Arboretum. It’s a small building but inside it hides some awesome plants. No journey of exploring gardens is complete until you visit a garden that can kill you. Inside the Bay City Arboretum, you will find plants such as those. They host a nice variety of exotic plants that range from ones that will just straight out eat you to plants that fae even turns into weapons and we all know how...fickle the fae can be, so watch out!

Now for our last stop, you might need some scuba gear. As for me I just threw on my tentacles and grabbed my cephalopod companion and just dived right on into the Lost Garden of Thera. This garden I fell in love with the second I saw it. This underwater garden earned its palace on my trip for its sheer beauty alone. As you walk or swim through this garden that was lost to time you will find yourself walking along paths of beautiful coral and other numerous underwater fauna. If you don’t have your own companion like I did, don't worry because there are plenty of fish in this sea to keep you company as you explore and fall in love with its vibrant colors. Just keep an eye out for stray tentacles or don’t. We don’t judge here.
