A PERSONALITY LARGER THAN LIFE WHO SHAPED OUR FASHION WORLD-Rest in Peace Frolic Mills - Hyaecinte Reporting...

A shadow was cast on Second Life on February 1st as we learned the great Frolic Mills, an icon and a legend in our fashion community, was no longer with us.

Frolic, Frolito for his friends, leaves a big void behind him. Therefore to celebrate his memory, Hyaecinte has collected the memories and thoughts of five people who were lucky enough to be part of the circle of friends of this larger-than-life character.

''FROLIC WAS A KING MIDAS
WHO TURNED EVERYTHING IN GOLD''
Ponchituti Boucher

''I am about to write the post that I would never have wanted to write, not in SL and even less in RL.
It is with great regret, disbelief, pain and endless tears that I announce the death of our beloved Frolic Mills (Juan Cristobal).
For most of you, he was the creator of the modeling industry in Second Life, he was the promoter of designers, builders, the creator of Top Models. No one has or will have his keen eye to see raw talent. He was also the creator of the contests in SL as we know it today. Founder of what was at the time the largest corporation in the world of fashion BOSL. HE WAS the industry. He was a living legend. Frolic was a King Midas who turned everything he touched into gold.

But for me, Juan Cristobal was my brother, we loved each other and we fought like only brothers do. But not only was he my soul brother, Frolic was my teacher, my mentor. Everything I know about the fashion world and modeling in Second Life was taught to me by him.
Diana Balhaus, Lali Arbizu and I are devastated because we were his "Frolic's Witches" which is the name he gave to the WhatsApp group created for the four of us and where we laughed our hearts out at his witticisms. Some timer, We were the three musketeers and of course he was D'artagnan, some times, We were Charlie's Angels. Always together in life's adventures
We will always remember him for his jovial, sincere and entrepreneurial way of being. He shared his love of art, music, and fashion, and was never afraid to do new and different things.''

''FROLIC, MY PARTNER IN CRIME''
Lali Arbizu

''I was lucky to be friends with Frolic in both lives... In SL he was my mentor, my first critic, our companion for long conversations sitting on his yacht or on the terrace of any of his houses, partner in crime when it came to organize surprise parties, our boss at his wedding venue and many other shared adventures...

We lived in the same city... I loved eating and cooking... we shared long lunches in trendy places in Caracas....

Frolic loved little birds... He had some canaries that sang so much and so loudly that they often interrupted our Skype conversations... Frolic was an art lover, a lover of beautiful things, he was fascinated by fashion, by music... and by Thimotee Chalemet :)))

I'm going to miss you so much Frolito... They are celebrating in heaven... many friends there to receive the best of SL!''

''HE HAD A WAY TO MAKE ME FEEL SEEN AND APPRECIATED''
Avalon Chrome

"Frolic was a very special person and I will never forget how he supported me as a model, designer, and as the LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR. I’d always admired him from afar as an icon in the SL fashion industry, never believing I’d ever actually get to meet him. So when I had the honour of walking with him on the runway (and then clumsily lag-walking right into him - which we later laughed about) or custom-designing clothes for him to wear, it was a dream come true.

He had a way of making me feel seen and appreciated and I loved him for that. Thank you Frolic, for your unsurpassed contribution to the SL fashion world and for being a loyal friend to LUXE Paris.

Rest in peace, my dear friend. Un beso de despedida con amor. "

''A KIND SOUL AND A CONTINUED SOURCE OF INSPIRATION''
Parisian Skytower

Frolic Mills was always a larger-than-life personality to me. Until we met in 2009, his presence intimidated me, but as we collaborated, I got to know him better. In 2011, he was putting together a BOSL fashion show for the real-life brand Shan Beachwear, which Mika Palmyra and I represented in Second Life.

Frolic was never afraid to try new things and did not care what others thought because he was true to himself. So, for BOSL Fashion Week, he thought it would be cool to have the models walk the runway wearing Shan Beachwear in the actual ocean! I had not realized it until he told the story at the 2019 LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR judge's brunch. I remembered something like a wave or water effect passing through the fashion show and... crashing my PC! When I logged back in, everything was fine, so I attributed the problem to my (old) computer and continued watching the show. I had never given it much thought until he told the story 10 years later. He tried the wave effect and it did not work. It was then that I came to realize what an innovator he was!

He is a true pioneer who always pushed the envelope and pursues his vision. This world would be stagnant and boring if you did not try new things for fear of what others might say or think. Nobody in this world knows everything or is perfect, and those successes and failures are exactly what propel the world forward.

Frolic Mills was always very kind to Mika, Avalon, and myself.  He was a team player and had a wonderful sense of humor. We are heartbroken that he is no longer with us, but he will always be in our thoughts.

We will never forget you, FRO!
Remember your DVC code because it will be difficult to hear your cues from up there. LOL

Frolic and Lanai ,2012

"FROLIC WAS A PIONEER IN FASHION AND MEDIA IN SECOND LIFE  BEGINNING WITH BOSL AND PAVED THE WAY FOR MANY, A KIND SOUL AND A TRUE INSPIRATION. WE'VE WORKED TOGETHER FOR ALMOST TWO DECADES ON VARIOUS PROJECTS AND COMPETITIONS AND SHARED MANY LAUGHS. HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED NOT ONLY BY ME BUT BY MANY WHO GOT THE CHANCE TO MEET HIM" - Lanai Jarrico

FROLIC'S NEW FASHION WEEK The CREAM of the CROP

LUXE Paris shone on the catwalk of SL Fashion Week, the new super event from the legendary Frolic Mills. No, the famous virtual trendsetter has not lost its Midas touch!

With a team of ultra select designers, all presenting exclusive creations, seven mega
shows in a grandiose setting and about 400 visitors per day, the first edition of the SL
Fashion Week is a resounding success.

Cancer survivor, Frolic relaunched his virtual career last fall, after a long absence fighting for his real life. With his passion intact, he launched SL 20 magazine, a monthly publication listing the top 20 designers in a particular sector of the fashion industry. It is this group of exceptional designers who are making the first SL Fashion Week.

TRIBUTE to HERMÈS

Ranked 4th among the top 20 formal wear brands, LUXE Paris is there and took advantage of the occasion to launch its new collection Tribute to Hermès, a tribute to the prestigious French fashion house, more than a century old.

Originally a manufacturer of harnesses and luxury saddles, Hermès made a name in the world of fashion with the creation of its famous silk scarves in 1938, 100 years after its foundation. Today, a Hermès square is sold every 30 minutes, somewhere in the world.

VALSNIA WAS THERE

Valsnia, LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR, was walking the show. Her reign is almost finished and she is now promoting the 8th edition of the LOOK of the YEAR contest, that will elect the next LUXE Paris ambassador (LUXEParisLOOkoftheYEAR.com).

Also starring on the runway, the new LUXE Paris Geometric collection, inspired by the work of American designer Marc Jacobs, as well as the famous LUXE Paris BREWIN collection, cut from the works of Canadian painter Dave Brewin.

SL Fashion Week continues through Saturday April 23 with a collective super show at 10 am slt Saturday. A must for fashion lovers!

Second Time Around by Lacy Muircastle...

It’s finally done…  This manuscript took a long time to come to fruition but I’ve enjoyed the journey immensely, and I have Lanai Jarrico, she of the SL Enquirer, to thank for its existence.

Out of curiosity, I joined Second Life, which was back in 2008.  What a mind bend it was.  The learning curve was incredible and coming to terms with the technical aspects of just moving around never mind making the avatar look halfway presentable was daunting.  But I persevered and with time things began to fall into place.

But now what?  I decided that if I were to remain in Second Life that I needed to do something constructive.  In Second Life you can do what you want, be what you want and as a creative platform, the options are many and varied. In 2000 I’d dabbled with the idea of writing, but I filed it away and didn’t think about it again till early 2009.  I’d come across several virtual publications in SL and decided that’s what I wanted to do.  Write.

I applied to two virtual newspapers, one of which I never heard back from and which subsequently closed and the other was the SL Enquirer.  Lanai Jarrico, the CEO, and publisher of SLE gave me a chance and now here I am.  She became a good friend and I will forever be in her debt.  Persia Bravin, another colleague at the SL Enquirer, showed me the ropes and with her encouragement, I was on my way.

Lanai Jarrico
Back in real life, I came to the conclusion that I’d like to write a book.  Apparently, we all have one in us…  I took an online writing course offered by Get Smarter and facilitated by UCT lecturer Dr Ron Irwin.  Second Time Around was born.  My first draft was, well let’s just say not awfully good and I obviously needed to learn a whole lot more about the craft of writing.  Who knew just how difficult it was to write.

I rewrote my manuscript, several times... and along the way, I connected with All About Writing, run by Richard Beynon and Dr Jo-Anne Richards.  They coached and mentored me, and the final version of the book is the result of that collaboration.

To my friends, Persia, Maxes, Mal, Peny, Dallin, Nigal, Lowell, Craig, Giancarlo and IrishGent amongst others, thank you for being part of my journey.   And to all those avatars I’ve had the honour of interviewing over the years, I have enough material to write several Second Life related books…

Huckleberry Hax
A big thank you goes to Huckleberry Hax for allowing his character, Definitely Thursday, to have a cameo role in this book.  Definitely Thursday is one of the main protagonists from the Second Life based AFK series written by Huckleberry Hax.

Last but not least, thank you to Linden Lab for providing the platform for creativity in a virtual environment and to Philip Rosedale for coming up with the concept in the first place.

Second Time Around by Lacy Muircastle

A 21st Century romance in which virtual life intertwines with real life

Sheridan King had it all and then she didn’t.  Her trust in men irrevocably shattered, or so she thought.

Luke Ashton, accomplished Ad man and artist, surfer and ladies’ man.  His pain and distrust of women run deep.

Having a Second Life© complicates matters even further.  What is real and what is imagined?

Josh Magic and Callista Hancroft

Spotight on The Partyculars; an Entertainment Company brought to you by Frolic Mills- Mikile Vinciolo Reporting...

The most interesting experience was not the just the interview, but the man that is the subject of the interview…Frolic Mills.

When looking at the resume of this magnificent man, you begin to see his tremendous life unfurl: he is the CEO/Founder of the preeminent Miss Virtual World Inc. pageant, the retired founder of BOSL, a leading magazine publication, and now the CEO and founder of The Partyculars-a blossoming event/entertainment company that specializes in experiences, not parties.
