SL Newser - What Happened to the Valentine's Day "Kiss a Linden" Event?

Every year on Valentine's Day, the Linden Lab team have held their "Kiss a Linden" event in Second Life. For this one day a year, the Isle of View and Isle of ViewTwo sims would be brought online just for this occasion. These were heart-shaped islands with huge candy hearts, heart lollipops, and kissing booths with Lindens and sometimes resident volunteers. The Teen Grid had it's own event, though it was "Hug a Linden."

The event was held every year, at least until now. Read More

Spotlight Feature: “A Star is Born” – Experience for Beginner Models -NemzKat Resident Reporting...

The "A Star is Born" group made for models out of school. It is in fact, the only group that helps prepares models for their journey in the fashion world.

The group is not an agency but a way for models to have experience before their first job. They will be able to walk in shows and put that on their resume as experience. Please note: this is NOT an agency or school, but just a way to get job experience.  This group is also not to teach models the ABCs of runaway walking. However, models will be taught on-the-job training skills they will need to succeed.

Spotlight on Seagull Island Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Seagull Islands estate logo/info

Second Life© is an amazing place. It allows for connections that may not have been made otherwise. One of the reasons Second Life draws me back after so many years is the many people I encounter and the creative minds that contribute to this pixel world.

Hidden amongst the chain of islands that speckle the grid is a place called Seagull Island. Inspired by the beauty of nature and the serenity of a peaceful retreat, Angel Baxter and Balthasar Trebuchet together create an escape and a green landscape with hidden treasures for all to explore.

Interview with Ryan Fury & Derrick Zane of Tense Wrestling- NemzKat Resident Reporting…

Teleport to Intense Wrestling Arena
                                                http://slurl.com/secondlife/Newfie%20Land/23/15/25
                                                                           Mondays @ 3pm

Intense Wrestling is one of the realest wrestling sport in Second Life in my opinion. It’s not like the fake stuff on TV but the old, true wrestling styles. The fights look real and are interesting to watch. It’s not only a fight club but a real business with real people. Soon after the wrestling matches I interviewed the founders and co-owners of Intense Wrestling Ryan Fury and Derrick Zane.

Interview
NemzKat Resident: What is Intense Wrestling?

RyanFury Irelund: "The future of wrestling, it proves that real world business can be translated into Second Life. It is the 'brain child' of two real life wrestling Veterans with 20 years of experience."

Singer/Actress Whitney Houston Dies at 48

Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012)

Today, the music world lost a powerful voice. Whitney Houston was best known for her award winning vocal range and songs like " I want to dance with Somebody", "Didn't we almost have it all" and "I will always love you".  Ms. Houston was found in her Beverly Hills Hilton hotel room by her bodygaurd.  Attempts to resusitate the star were unsucessful.

Whitney's life in recent years has been in and out of news headlines due to her struggles with addiction, and her volatile 14 year marriage. From reports it seemed this superstar was making a coming back and was expected to attend the Grammy's pre show Gala.
She is survived by daughter, 19 year old  Bobbi Kristina Brown, her only child with former New Edition member Bobby Brown. It was also reported Ray J was dating the singer at the time of her passing.  At this time, cause of death has not yet been reported.

+++++++++
Virtual Montmartre is the sister sim of Virtual Harlem. The University of Paris IV-Sorbonne funded the development of these sims in 2004. The relationship of Montmartre to Harlem is clear to scholars of the Jazz Age/Harlem Renaissance, for it was in that Jazz was introduced and popularized in Europe by African American troops who fought under the French flag in World War I. These prestigious sims have been cosponsored by the National Black Programming Consortium and the Government of Norway for the development of Virtual Harlem and Virtual Montmartre in Second Life. They continue to be educational sims frequently being utilized internationally by RL students, SL artists, filmakers, writers, and faculty.

The Poetry of Karima Hoisan at Ce Soir Arts - Allen Eppenberger Reporting…

Ce Soir is a place of quiet solitude. I was to be here for the poetry of Karima Hoisan. The hosts for this evening are Aeon and Mireille Jenvieve-Woodford, the owners of Ce Soir Music and Arts. I strolled about the grounds of this sim during the mid afternoon settings. The low shadows give the location a Gothic feel. Rather than a trimmed and manicured garden, you will find grounds that haven't been mowed, and trees in need of pruning. This is a wonderful setting for the buildings, which are open and spacious.

I had the opportunity to sit down with Ms. Hoisan on the Tuesday before her performance at "Kari's Kantina del Mar" to conduct a quick interview. Ms. Hoisan has been in-world for four years. Currently living in Costa Rica, she prefers to keep her persona in Second Life and physical reality separate. Karima isn't classically trained as a writer, yet she has been writing since the age of 9. She's published in the default world, writing under a pen-name. Karima has two poetry books published, and two children’s books of poetry. She is featured in an anthology of 13 poets chosen internationally and published this year in the USA. She also plans on publishing her book “Digital Rabbit Hole” in RL, in a soft-cover format.
At one point, she had not written in over a year, so she brought a friend into SL. There, they read to each other to get their creative juices flowing. She sometimes writes her own music to complement her poetry.

Spotlight on BattleBeast Breedables Pandora Drezelan Reporting...

I recently met with Wynter Sommer and Andi Canare at BattleBeast Breedables and was given a tour by Battle himself. I love Second Life animals, both regular and fantasy, so this was an incredible experience for me. Battle tells us a bit about his beginning in Second Life and life before BattleBeast:
'Most of the team have been in Second Life since 2006 or 2007.  When I had looked at Second Life before, it seemed slow and clunky (and I probably didn't understand it). When I came back in 2008, it was ready for me, and vice versa.'
'I used to sleep more ;) Seriously, I think I used to watch TV more. Who needs TV when you can make friends from all over the world, in our own "alternate" reality show... and fly dragons?!  Woohoo!'
