AKANGA ISLAND LIBERI ISLES - FOR THE FINEST IN ROLEPLAYING SIMS: JOSH (THOMAS1 BELLIS) REPORTING

I was checking Pixel delivery orders the other day to see who had recently ordered truckloads of pixels.  This can be evidence of heavy construction going on, and I hit Paydirt...or rather.. “PayPixels”  As it turned out, there was some MAJOR construction going on at Akanga Island, the grid’s newest Role Play build.  There I met Renita (Jacquotte Anne de Graaf) and Clawtooth (M/Roach Aker), taking a short break from the day’s labors.  Fascinated by what I saw, I KNEW that this would be something for RPers everywhere.

Josh (Thomas1 Belic) JB:    So tell me, Renita.  Just what is Akanga Island Liberi Isles all about?

(Renita) Akanga Island:Liberi Isles is the RP brain child of my friend Clawtooth Aker and myself that is set in the 18th Century and based off of both fiction and nonfiction histories of Madagascar during that era. Akanga Island:Liberi Isles is fictionally located off the coast and lost in time which is where the multi-verse RP comes in. The Lore has a fantasy flair to it which incorporates both fact and fiction all in one so that the player can either develop within the created storyline or create their own.

We started this RP back in 2010 and decided to rekindle it with a vaster storyline that inter-fuses everything from Libertalia pirate history to the cannibalistic tribesman in the dense jungles and then everything in between.

We wanted an exciting and diverse place to play and have fun that is built for players by players.

JB:    What a phenomenal build.  Did you do this all yourself, of did you have help, and what did they do?

(Renita) I am glad you enjoyed it. Feels like it took forever! I did the build myself yes. I started this particular build back in early 2021 after Claw and I decided to make a go at reopening this RP after 10 years. I wanted the build to be very realistic but allow for players to add their own flare to it. It was challenging to say the least. There were a lot of cuss words. Let's just leave it at that.

JB:    Where did you get the inspiration for this build?

(Renita) The history of the Libertalia is what started it 10 years ago and so this time around I painstakingly researched Madagascar regarding their landscapes, wildlife, fauna, insects, even their people and villages that were around at that time. It was important to me to make sure that it was done correctly. There is nothing I hate more than to walk onto a sim, see primmy builds with textures sloppily slapped on and objects, wildlife or even trees that were never even in that timeline or location. Unless it is all fantasy, it just doesn't make sense. Make it make sense and that's what I did.

(Clawtooth) While Ren took the visuals angle for our game design, I focused mostly on the mechanics of RP and interactions. I come from a very game-centric background, Role Playing to some degree is a large part of my experience. I wanted to make sure there was a baseline created so that everyone was playing on a fair, interactive game field, regardless of the style of play that was chosen.

JB:    What can we hope to discover in Pirates Cove?

(Renita) So many secrets to be told!! Can't give away too much but there is quite a lot of fun to be had in the Liberi Cove. I wanted it to look like a hybrid of Pirates Cove and the Pirates of the Caribbean shipwreck island. We have everything from the quack doctor to a historian and even a greedy trader's office. We have a ton of housing available with some really cool ones, some even on cliffs,  and of course, the ability for people to live on their ship if they like. Wow, there is so much,... the marketplace, the taverns, the faction headquarters, the blacksmith, the carpenter and so much more to do just in that cove for sure.

(Clawtooth) The Cove is more or less the heart of the Liberi, it serves as the main bridge between the land and sea folk. In a way, because the sim low key touches on the idea of the Multi-verse, it's also a cultural stew pot, exposing characters from various settings to one another to create something new.

JB:    How about the Desert Build?  What is THAT all about?

(Renita) Ahh, the desert, isn't that magnificent? So if you take a look at Madagascar it has a number of landscapes and climates all on that one island. You have jaggy rocks, desert landscapes, dense tropical jungles, and mini islands off it called isles that can be habitable. With that in mind, we created a desert landscape on Akanga Island. On the one side of the desert, you have the dwellers and these are common folk who are on the mainland and have found community in that area. They have a marketplace, a tavern, housing and so much more. Now on the other side of that desert are the Bari people and they are the desert tribesman who raises cattle and live peacefully as long as they are not provoked. They trade spices, chickens, and pottery and live in a very highly patriarchal tribe where polygamy is practiced among them. The Bari have their own secrets. Everyone does...we love secrets.

JB:    Are these areas built for free-play, or is there an existing storyline for each area?

(Renita) We encourage both! We love when the players develop their own storylines and incorporate it into either the existing lore or start their own. We are an immersive RP sim and most of our players do para or semi para RP. Claw masterminded the HUD system and it is optional, but it's great to complete your character.. You can build, earn in-game funds to trade, and so much more.

(Clawtooth) Bottom Line, we wanted to create a choice for everything... immerse yourself in what exists, or forge ahead into the future and make something new. Rome wasn't built in a day, nor did it last for nearly a thousand years by focusing on what was. We want the players to take what we made, and make it their own.

JB:    I imagine the Jungle Build can give way to all kinds of RP scenarios.  How do you see that playing out?

(Renita) I had fun on this build and really wanted people to get lost in there and I think I accomplished that because I get lost all the time (laughs). The Dayuks were a challenge though, they really are a pivotal part of the Lore and I wanted to make sure their area really represented the danger, mystery, and magical powers behind this important tribe.

(Clawtooth) It's dense, crawling with critters, like Ren said it is easy to get lost in. Any number of scenarios can play out here, it really depends on the player, anything from the simple harvesting of resources, to raids, or even a simple walk through the jungle. Make a farm, explore Lore. If the Cove is the center of culture and knowledge, the Jungle is definitely the seat of the unknown.

JB:    Do you plan any special events here, and if so, how might people learn about them?

(Clawtooth) We have a few event types planned, which can all be found in the Active Stories section of our Website. Active Stories represent a sort of timeline for events that stand out over the course of story progression, as time goes on and more events take place, a more formalized format will be adopted. Some events may never end and typically rely, to some degree, on the HUD/Meter system to operate while others may simply take you to a point of interest to find an object or present you with a clue.

JB:    Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

(Clawtooth) Akanga/Liberi Isles is in OpenAlpha stage Development. We fully expect players to take what we've created and run with it, that is, we want them to break the status quo, and make it their own. We have created a place rich in history and lore... and a flexible, interactive HUD system so players can represent their characters. This includes a crafting system that allows players the freedom to customize their own RP experiences. While we have plans that expand into the distant future, we have come to a point in development where growing and making everything even better only comes with community-driven play and support. Want to get in on the RP? We got you. Don't have $Ls? You don't need them to progress and RP. Got ideas for the game systems? We have ears and the skills to make it happen. Want to be a part of something big? What you see on sim is only a fraction of the plans we have for Akanga Island: Liberi Isles.

So.  There you have it folks.  For the finest in RP sims, drop on by Akanga Islands.  Stay an hour…or stay a lifetime…or anything in-between.  You’ll be glad you did.

Spotlight on The Rasere Awakening Series and launch of book 3- The Bounding Main by Author R.Lacques aka GoSpeed Rasere- Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

Author R. Jacques (aka- GoSpeed Rasere) launched Rasere’s War. The first book in the Rasere's Awakening Series. Based 500 years into the future,  mankind finds lasting peace but using emotions excessively is shunned. Many human Users visit the virtual world of Simvie Loko to fully express themselves, but the world ruling Artificial Intelligence, Gaiana, is seeking to shut it down. Will GoSpeed and her fellow NPCs survive this virtual conflict or be erased forever? Will they face extinction or prevail with such norms? If you’ve read Rasere’s War, you will want to read the 2nd novel in the Series; We built this City.

Gospeed goes on a quest to Bay City where opportunities await, but a new evil raises its ugly head and threatens her new home. She decides to fight back, but at what cost? but on her way she meets Simvie a criminal who threatens peace.

On March 30th,  GoSpeed launched the 3rd book in the Rasere Awakening  series; The Bounding Main.
This novel is based in the futuristic virtual world,  Simvie Loko. It is a free world for NPCs (non-player characters), once a virtual playground for human users. In this 3rd installation, GoSpeed Racer is starting anew and trying to live down her past sins. She sets off on another adventure on the high seas of Simvie Loko where she ultimately finds redemption. putting her past behind her for redemption.

Much like Second Life it sounds like an adventure! Without spoiling the plots and twists in the series, The SL Enquirer had the pleasure of meeting up with GoSpeed Racer to talk more about The Rasere Awakening Series and maybe get some more details about her character’s  journey of a lifetime.

SLE: Gospeed Racer, it is great to have this opportunity to talk about series and give our readers some behind the scenes insight and your inspiration  behind your novels. Can you tell our readers what inspired you to write the series?

Gospeed: Thank you Lanai. It's a pleasure to speak with you! My inspiration came from a few sources. About ten years ago I blogged about what I would feel if Second Life were to shut down. It wasn't a pleasant at all, that's for sure. Even by my second rez day I felt an affinity for my avatar. A couple of years later I started writing short story about GoSpeed magically appearing in the real world and visiting my at my house. I never finished the story. Fast forward to 2015 and my favorite podcast novelist (Scott Sigler) did a couple of episodes on how to write a novel. Soon after that I began writing my series.

SLE: In the series, your avatar GoSpeed Racer is the main character. With the adventures and experiences you have in the novels, do they related in anyway with your SL avie’s adventures and experiences?

Gospeed: In my early days in SL, circa 2006 to 2008, I was very active in the SL Sailing community and sailed all over the grid. I've also done some minor roleplaying and the emoting and dialog exchanges were very helpful for my creative writing. Of course the Bay City community here in Second Life was a great source of material and inspiration. I've been affiliated with Bay City since 2010 and I was crowned Miss Bay City 2018!

SLE: Wow you have been an active SL community member for a long time. Congrats on being crowned Miss Bay City. How would you describe your character’s personality compared to your own?

GoSpeed: They are like the difference between my real self and my avatar. Some elements of my real personality  come through, and some do not. Second Life acts as a filter of sorts. In this futuristic virtual world many of the NPCs (virtual citizens), to include GoSpeed, are sourced from old social media archives. The creator uses images, videos, and blog posts and then run them through an algorithm to generate a personality. As the old saying goes, "A picture says a thousand words." In fact, there have been articles recently stating the possibility of recreating a virtual identity of a recently deceased family member by using their online digital postings. I doubt anything useful could be created with today's technology, but in 500 years? Possibly.

SLE:  That’s an interesting concept. Through the Series, your character faces many obstacles, can you give our readers an examples of the difficulties she faced on her journey?

GoSpeed: In the first novel she is forced to take up arms to protect her world, then she falls in love for the first time ever. In the second novel, she takes the law into her own hands  and must face the severe consequences of her actions.

SLE: Are you a published author of other novel besides The Rasere Awakening Series?

GoSpeed: This is my first series. I plan to write more in this "universe" in the future. My next book will be an anthology containing short stories and vignettes from Simvie Loko.

SLE: Without giving too much away, what else would you like to share with readers about The Bounding Main?

GoSpeed: TBM is the conclusion of the series and as such wraps up a lot of the longer story arcs. In this story GoSpeed must live and work in a community that sees her as either a criminal or a saint. With these same people, she goes on an extended journey to investigate a mystery facing both communities. Together they learn more about their shared world and the possible threats they may face.

Top Places and Tips for Role Playing - Camury Reporting

In Second Life we can find a large number of global groups for virtual role-playing , including vampire, Goth , steampunk, fantasy, furry, historical , pirate and nautical clubs.

Each RP Community has its own history and so it is highly recommended to read any information provided by RP SIMS. This will make your gaming experience the most complete and enjoyable as possible.

When the player accepts the rules of the RP, he/she takes the role of a character previously established, just as in a theatrical performance and interacts with the other players.   It is highly recommended to wear an outfit that matches the character. Most RP SIMS make it mandatory.

Each RP SIM guides the user to get appropriate clothing for more realism to the game. When he/she incorporates the character, he should use his imagination to give some realism to the scenes. For example, what would really happen if he was there. In general, the character speaks using the first person , typing "/ me " at the beginning of each sentence .

In so-called live action role playing game ( LARP ) , the characters move according to the scenes. But in general, RPG, everything is based on the imagination of the plan. The scenes and fights are described by the characters, not physically experienced .
For example , if the character is dancing , you will imagine and describe body movements and sensations that his dance is expressing. You don’t need to run to a dance ball to represent the scene. The important thing is that to describe the scene in the local chat so the other characters are able to follow and interact. This can be weird for a beginner but with practice, the ability to describe the scenes keeps getting better as the storyline progresses.

Fortunately, in most SIMs there is a friendly area for beginners where you can practice your game safely.

Bloodlines is a vampire-themed RP game example set within Second Life. It is also one of the oldest and most popular. The game achieved a huge popularity rating. Membership is still phenomenal, especially among newbies.

Many families and clans, well organized, disclose the vampire culture, influencing the behavior in SL. To gain position, you must have voluntary souls. We still see many Bloodlines players in clubs, beaches and shops, looking for new victims to bite. Some humans prefer to keep their humanity, but serve the vampire culture as a renewable source of blood.
Visit in Second life:

Urban RP
Immerse yourself in the pages of Toxic City, a dark and gloomy urban live action role playing game (LARP), where participants physically make the moves of his characters. Players pursue goals within a fictional scenario (a city after a major toxic disaster), while interacting with each other in character. You can become a vampire, a werewolf, a mystic, demon, drug addict or a sci-fi character with cybernetic implants. You can also be a mutant, or maybe you were sent to put an end to the chaos, like an angel.
The characters consist of a large variety of configurations with different strengths and skills defined by your race or level.

Visit in Second life:

Kingdom of Sand
The Ireem desert kingdom is full of magic. Take a ride on a camel mounted below the Silk Road and enter this desert kingdom, full of mysteries. Explore the opulent palaces of the kingdom and walk the decadent bars. This role playing fighting game is lush and full of odalisques, sheiks, gladiators, and magical djinn ..Visit in Second life:

If you are a fan of the Game of Thrones series, you'll love King's Landing: Realms of Ice and Fire. This role playing game is based on the works GRR Martin located Within Second Life. The rules are very well defined and to participate you need to create a character, with beautifully detailed features, which must be approved in advance by the administrators of the game.
Visit in Second life:

Travel back in time, the daily life of Berlin in 1920, during the Weimar Republic.
The Berlin Project 1920 is an online interactive model of historical SIM, created within the virtual world of Second Life The objective of the project is to give visitors the opportunity to delve into the past. I loved this one! The experience is fun, but also educational. In the RP SIM, you will see some exact replicas of real buildings like the exclusive Hotel Adlon in Berlin Alexanderplatz station, the inn Zum Nußbaum and Brandenburg Gate. There are also reconstructions of buildings made, used to show people another side of life in the 1920s The neighborhood includes tiny apartments, you can visit and shops selling clothes of that era. There is also a theater where people can see real films from the 20's, school, hotel and nightclub, called Der Keller, where people can listen to original music and dance in 1920.The RP SIM has rules for all visitors. People should dress in according to the 20's trends. There are boxes of free clothes at the entrance plaza, which allow avatars to do that. The idea is to make all visitors and residents feel as if they belong to the period of time.

Currently, there are 169 Role-playing Communities, according to the guide of the Second Life destinations. You can PR anything, be a magical fairy, a magician, a dragon, a fearsome warrior, the curator of a band of marauding pagan or survivor of the apocalypse. Your imagination is the limit!

Role Playing in Second Life- Piers Diesel Reporting...

According to Wikipedia, (2014) Role playing is refers to as “taking a role of an existing character or person and acting it out with a partner taking someone else's role, often involving different genres of practice”

We have all sometime in our lives, role played, beginning in childhood when our imagination was running wild. For example, boys pretending to be superheroes by jumping off of household furniture and being yelled at by mothers saying, “this is not a playground!” Little girls may have role played being a princess or even acted out scenarios using Barbies with friends. Role play has evolved significantly from those times with the rapid expansion of technology and more adults are participating in creative ways.

Role play in Second Life has a large community. From vampires, fairies, lycans and furries characters to ancient, medieval and combat sims where RP residents can actually play whatever role they would like with their friends from real world history, popular video game, movie or computer game story lines.

If you have always wanted to RP but do not know where to go, here is a list of locations in Second Life to explore. Keep in mind that there are many different genres of role play out there that can be found using the Second Life search engine.

Spotlight on BattleBeast Breedables Pandora Drezelan Reporting...

I recently met with Wynter Sommer and Andi Canare at BattleBeast Breedables and was given a tour by Battle himself. I love Second Life animals, both regular and fantasy, so this was an incredible experience for me. Battle tells us a bit about his beginning in Second Life and life before BattleBeast:
'Most of the team have been in Second Life since 2006 or 2007.  When I had looked at Second Life before, it seemed slow and clunky (and I probably didn't understand it). When I came back in 2008, it was ready for me, and vice versa.'
'I used to sleep more ;) Seriously, I think I used to watch TV more. Who needs TV when you can make friends from all over the world, in our own "alternate" reality show... and fly dragons?!  Woohoo!'
